Closing comments, location of ventilated seat switch & V2L switch, and old style wiring harnesses in vehicles which share commonalities with ICE vehicles which still have not progressed to bus-bars. So vanity or otherwise features like a "shark-fin" antenna on the roof gets a long wire and a hole in the roof, likewise the rear windscreen washer gets a long water hose and wire making multiple holes - but some other features vanity or otherwise meet the bean counters who say "fewer holes and shorter wires please".
Which is why electricians like doorbells near the door itself and not somewhere near the back of the house.
But then again, you got to remember, the Currv EV was intended for people who take their dog or dogs along.
What were they thinking when they designed that back seat?

Adding few more points where Kartik says "This is normal" for my Tata Altroz.
    1) My infotainment system would just hang once in a while and android auto/carplay would not detect a device when connected. Got it checked at the Service center and they said "This is normal" and they updated software version and the issue was fixed.
    2) Once in a while, although rare but my car just would just not detect the accelerator pedal when starting it fresh for the day, I would then turn ignition off and restart, post which car would act normal. Got it checked at the service center and they again said "This is normal" and we need to update the sequencing code for the DCA gearbox which should fix the issue.
This is my 10 month old car and if they are able to fix it with great ease which would indicate that they have known these issue for sometime now. Question is why would they not fix it when manufacturing when they have already collated these repetitive issues
Don't get me wrong I just did 1100 kms of long drive couple of days back and I was like this car is simply amazing at so many things, if and this is a big 'IF', they can sort this issues out they can really push 7/10 experience to 9/10.
One final thing where you hit nail on its head, more then your experience with the car in itself your experience with the brand TATA is nose diving with these sort of quality and service center issues.

Regarding Maruti. I am currently driving a WagonR. 3 years and 90K Kms done. Zero complains. Just fill the tank and drive with occasional tyre pressure check. Servicing is also hassle free. I am very busy and can't take my vehicle to service centre twice a year for routine servicing ( not accounting for unforeseen incidents in Tata). The car is a car to go to places and Maruti does a tremendously good job. But in the back of my mind I am just hoping that maruti would also make safe cars...
One more funny incident, a friend of mine who is a first time car buyer and has a Nexon petrol manual for 3 years now called me yesterday and shared one of his experiences. He drove a swift dezire manual for the first time (Maruti manual 1st time) and he was blown away with how smooth the car was (not brand new, one of our friend's car). As per him the gear shift was so smooth compared to Nexon that he thought it might be broken... 😂😂😂

Really nice stories about Tata. That reminds me of the story my friend says. He used to be an employee in Tata Motors in the analytics team. Like Karthik said, they know that the air con vents break, they know that their systems are glitchy, they know that their lock systems are not good (there are Harriers in which the outside door handles break). It is all in their data. He was in the analytics team and he did not even have to analyze it. It was just there. Their response was that it somebody else who is to be blamed.
I have been an employee of Tata (not motors but the IT company) and I feel the culture is similar there as well. They are never willing to change and change comes only after a lot of fight and deliberation. Lot of times the change comes too late.
This is the story of all Tata organization. I think they need to stop being scared of their mistakes. They need to own it and see how they can correct it.

The "Normal for Tata" section hit really close to heart! I just can't recommend a Tata car to anyone in my friend circle. Personally, I faced a total failure of manual gearbox in Altroz Diesel at just 32000 kms. And the service advisor feedback- Sir machine hai, ho jaata hai! I hope someone in Tata Motors realizes that the gullibility of their customers will only last them a certain sales crest, after which, these experiences and word of mouth will certainly affect them adversely.

@@museycal so true I own a tigor the car itself is excellent but it's led down my the after sales, in the first year of owning the car. They never bothered to clean the ac filter and due to this it developed a small opening and this somehow resulted in the refrigerant leaking, the explanation was , the evaporator coil developed a crack due to the puncture in the AC filter. They changed it under warranty but then another issue came up due to this. The mileage dropped drastically, I used to get 16 to 17 in the city with how I drive but was getting between 10 to 12 and when I told tata service they said it's the way u drive saaaar and they looked at the clutch pedal and said saaar your clutch might be gone, I told them it's the problem with the AC the compressor never cuts off and car is always noisy they said sir AC doesn't affect the mileage your clutch is gone. Then fast forward to 1.5 years and constant struggles with the service centre about this issue, I decided to involve someone from tata motors. To solve this first they said sir Thermistor is faulty , they replaced it and it was working fine for 1 day then again same issues and after they changed my explanation valve. After 3 months because they were busy no wonder why.
The issue with AC was that pressure between the low and high side where not equalising because of faulty expansion valve.
I informed them about this , I told them for fact that this is the problem but no one bothered for a 1.5 years
After involving tata motor , though my issue is resolved. But this could have been solved if they just listened to me or took the time to investigate.
Apart from this I had issue with my battery. They never checked the water levels but my clutch is still fine😛
You give them the car to service hoping they will check and analyse if the cars are their own but I guess They just stop caring after the car is delivered. It's been like this for ages India.
Anybody who asks me , "should I buy a tata car". I would say never.🫂

As far as the quality levels are concerned, I agree with Karthik. A friend of mine had recently bought a Harrier, the facelifted version with fancy variant names. It had all the bells and whistles except for ADAS. He took us on a short ride and all of us were really impressed with the car. The size, the length , the quality of materials used etc etc. But the electronic niggles… oh man! While he was making a turn, the camera feed came up in the direction of the turn and the feed was literally frozen after a few seconds. A car went by and it didn’t register on the screen. Now since my friend was watching the road during the turn instead of the screen, so he didn’t notice it but I did. I just didn’t have the heart to tell him this because it was a brand new car and he was really beaming with happiness but it really burst my bubble of how awesome cars manufactured by Tata are. If I am spending that level of money especially for these features, I want those features to work reliably well especially something like a camera feed. Else I might as well pay Hyundai for their Creta. It maybe cheaper but they are offering an experience that just works.

Responsible journalists and tata fanbase has always supported tatas products but i don't think tata has done justice to all these efforts tata products are not comparable with global brands there are a lot of issues and the biggest reason for tatas ignorence is tata group's size itself in 90s mahindra knew that if they don't invest in engine technologies and if they don't improve their quality then they won't servive and then mahindra engines and there platforms improved a lot i am not saying that mahindra has no issues but what I am trying to say is even if tata motors starts to struggle tata group is always there to save them they never feel that they need to improve there engine quality and reliability and they never feel that there products quality and service should be world class I think tata's last few launches are example of what I am trying to say at one end you have mahindra I mean they have literally changed and improved the same platform with every single new launch the design and packaging is also different and improved and on the other hand you have curvv with nexon interiors harrier safari family look exteriors and less space then citroen basalt I mean come on yaar people have waited for this car for almost two years.

I would also like to share our experiences with Tata. It was all good for couple of services. I even reported it as great service in one of my earlier comments. But then that excitement and luck just disconnected.
    1. Our Altroz Diesel had an unfortunate incident where it hit an overloaded idiot driven Tata Ace and as a result had it's Radiator broken and leaking coolant. Towed it to the service. Insurance claimed. Survey done. All approved. But repair work wasn't started for 7 whole days. Reason? The service advisor was on an official trip to Tata head quarters. The car was untouched until we escalated to higher authorities.
    2. Only 15kKms and 1.5 years. The Steering / tie rod making weird noises. And when shown in the service, though they didn't deny it saying it is Normal, they just asked my brother to keep driving until it gets worse. I mean, why? It was already making enough in terms of noise levels.
Luckily, so far, we did not get a "This is Normal" response for anything that we reported.

As an Ex-Tata owner, I can totally relate to the stories by the people you met. I got an Altroz Diesel in 2020 and it broke down (clutch issue) after 12k kms. Got it towed to the service centre, had to wait for almost 8 days to even get a call from them. I remember going to the service centre and standing there to ensure they do the work and handover the car that entire day. After that, I did a road trip and came back (5k kms), went for a basic wheel alignment check as I felt the car was pulling to the left. They checked and showed me oil leakage from the gearbox. Had to drop at the service centre again to get that fixed. Overall experience and attitude was like Sumo/Indica days. That same issue came back again and was the final nail in the coffin. Got it fixed, spoke to service centre to understand that the previous service centre missed changing the oil which caused this issue. I complained to Tata SM team, spoke to them but no use as I had to pay half the money even though the car was under warranty till the end of the year. I sold the car a couple of months ago (38k driven, 3.6 years) and I’ve never been more happier driving a 2016 Grand I10 automatic (which we bought as a second car for my wife). I would never buy another Indian brand anytime soon (only exception is Maruti Suzuki)
P.S. - I enjoyed the car when it stayed out of the service centre. I even did an extremely long road trip. Hyderabad - New Delhi - Udaipur - Hyderabad. Car performance is very good, but the DPF issues were a pain. On top of that, what I realised is the service centre experience in most places is bad.

@@motorinc Definitely! I loved the car and any car can breakdown. All that matters is how the service centre approaches the work and how are they working to ensure issues are properly fixed and customers are going back happy. If the experience is like this when the car is under warranty, I can’t imagine what would’ve happened post the warranty ended. I have a clarity now after hearing what Karthik said about the conversations he had with the leadership team. If the attitude is like that at the leadership level, no wonder it’s the same way at the service centres. They need to really address these issues and I’ve been telling my friends and family to proceed with caution if they’re planning for a Tata car.

Things I noticed about the Tata Curvv while I was in the showroom:
    1. The rear end looks awesome and doesn't match with the front end. The profile is okay-ish.
    2. There was no thigh support on the back seats, it made me remember Maruti Omni.
    3. Rear visibility is garbage.
    4. Interior is not good for the Creta category.

It reminds me the service experience with TVS for my 2017 Jupiter. The service experience goes along way in my so far experience with 3 brands I have owned. Top would be the KTM service, followed by a Honda(car) and the worst would be the TVS till now. Sharing my "Normal" experience with the Tata
    1. Bought the Nexon 2017, after test driving the Brezza and WR-V and the Nexon was an easy pick over these. Bought the top variant and used it for 5 years. During my time with the car, once the coolant sensor failed, which I got fixed after visiting the service center twice since the first time they just reset the error and called it "fixed". During the 5th year, the power steering started to have some issues. It got almost jammed if you turned the steering extremely left/right. Upon consulting the service center, they said you have to get the motor replaced because as per them "this is normal after 5 years" even though the car was driven for about 40k Kms. After some temporary fix, we decided to sell the car and guess what we bought next?
    2. Nexon 2022 model, because my dad loved the comfort and space of the Nexon. It's been 2 years now and I'm not at all happy with the overall experience. After the car gets serviced, multiple times the door open warning gets triggered even though the doors are closed. The service center guy was like "this is normal because water gets inside which causes the sensor to give faulty reading" once it dries out (usually a day or two), it will be fine.
The next thing, the steering mounted controls. The volume buttons work as track seek buttons randomly, and sometimes the cruise control button has to be multiple times in order for the cruise control to engage.
After all these incidents, I'm sure that I'm not going to buy a Tata car again. My friend asked me if he should buy the new Nexon and I told him not to because of how my experience has turned out to be.

@@motorinc Hola! Yes, I am looking for a secondary car for a family of 3 for mostly city usages and occasional highway usages. My monthly fuel expense is around 10000INR~1200KM. I would prefer an EV considering a better drive experience of Torqi motor and AT gearbox inn CITY usage along with free office charging. Punch EV is looking good to me but my wife dont want a very common car on road. I have driven jeep compass and currently having EcoSport at home and I enjoy driving them so much that I want my next car to have a decent steering/suspension for fun to drive quotient. I have virtus 1.5 dsg as an option for petrol but the only worry is dsg reliability for Bangalore stop and go traffic because I expect my wife to use auto hold feature which people wont recomend using on signals. For EV, i was having high hopes for curve born ev but it turn out to be nexon with bigger boot. I will give it a test drive anyway. but the dilemma is listen to mind and choose ev and save cost on fuel/maintenance(assiming my next primary car going to be a little premium segment german so maintenance will be significantly high) or just listen to heart and get the virtus/slavia 1.5? Sorry for the long comment

This was the worst service i had faced with any other car company. Never gonna recommend Tata cars to friends having these kind of service. I know you a well, and you wont be able to handle the issues that will crop up". And based on my advise he took a Baleno.
In my list of issues with the car, the newest addition: My 3 year old Altroz started having foggy windshield when ever I turn on AC due to faulty windshield defogger. The defogger flap does not close anymore and with AC turned on inside (Kerala high heat and high humidity) the outside of windshield bottom area will start to fog up and I have to turn on wipers periodically to clear it. I dont want to waste another 3 weeks with TATA service from my previous unresolved issues, So for now, I just roll down windows and endure then heat when driving alone.

6:54 When we went to check out Nexon and striking it out from our list was because the backseat space didn't felt big enough upgrading from a freestyle... The EV nexon felt even with lesser back seat space compared to the ICE.. And Curvv not having enough backseat space is bummer.. I felt this would really sit between nexon and harrier in size and not just boot

1:00:23 "small issues like people being locked in the car"
I'm imagining the service scenario like - "Oh you were locked inside? Its normal here."
"Oh you had panic attack and a heatstroke? Its normal here."
"Oh you were taken to a hospital? Call our tata helpline for 24/7 Roadside towing assistance."
    .
To put this into context we have a Honda City and these kind of things would be unheard of in the Honda community.. I unfortunately crashed that car for the first time in 8 years (2015 model) of owning it.. Struck a Electricity Concrete post at 50 kmph and Caved in the hood, pretty messed up.. then drove that car another 30 kms home with the radiator tied by a rope and the AC not working, it drove like before the crash.. Now its like it never crashed.. Absurd levels of perfection from the Japanese.. A true motor vehicle Enthusiast will know for sure that Tata isn't in the contest..

Excellent review, completely agree with Tatas new norm. A cousins Tiago was in service center for 3 months for a reason unknown till higher ups were contacted. The car used to stall intermittently. They changed entire wiring, music system and timing belt to solve this issue. Ultimately it was an ECU issue.

"Normal for Tata" section cant get enough of it - the battery draining faster than it should , car refusing to accelerate in summers , earthing issues among many which would not be addressed by service centers. Whenever i complained about it they would simply reply by saying "koi issue nhi h sir ek baar hogya hoga" or "humari testing mai nhi aaya sir kuch"

The review missed emphasising a couple of important points when comparing with Nexon.
    1. This has 70Kw DC charging support, which makes all the difference.
    2. The battery pack is sourced from Octillion this time. What difference it brings to the famous HV critical error is not discussed / yet to be seen.

I'm using ADAS Level 2 for a few months now. Never switched it off, be it in traffic, highway, or an expressway. I agree it breaks a little harder than a normal person would, but then, if you are attentive enough and press the accelerator pedal, it sorts things out.
One of the best uses of ADAS, in my opinion, is its working in conjunction with SCC. Now wherever I go on a trip with my family in a convoy. I just engage the SCC and sit back. Other than keeping your hands on the steering wheel every now & and then, it requires minimum human intervention.
About the lane keep assisting system. I works well on the straight roads and small curves but please do not rely on ghat section or sharp turns. Drivers should realize, these features are there to make your life easier while driving and not to treat it as the fully autonomous.

    • @motorinc

I think one of the ways to look at it could be that, Each Automobile manufactured is in the Transition phase.
    For Every Growth in Quality,
Car's need to sold to make profits.
    And

Tata Nexon 2020 - 3 weeks ago - just 33K km in and the gearbox is shot, bang in the middle of the highway. We were lucky to not be too far from the city and some how reached back. That moment made me question my choice of getting a Tata, unfortunately after so many years they're still not reliable.

Hey! First, let’s keep in mind the Curvv concept and Nexon facelift launch dates:
The Tata Curvv concept was first introduced in 2022, and the Nexon facelift was launched on September 14, 2023.
That means, yes, the Tata Nexon's design is inspired by the Tata Curvv. But we shouldn't say the Curvv looks like the Nexon. Both the front design and even the interior design of the Nexon are inspired by the Curvv.
So, we can say, "Nexon copies or borrows the front design from the Curvv."
What's important to note is that the original design (the Curvv) was launched later, but the Nexon, which borrowed from it, was launched earlier than the original design. This creates a situation where the later design appears to be influenced by the earlier one, which can be seen as a mistake in the timeline of design inspiration.

About the cup holders, When I saw the first impressions of the Curvv on another channel, I pointed it out only to get replies like "cupholders are a western concept anyways. You can always put a bottle of water in the door. Nobody has cups with drinks around here while they are driving. You are only Nitpicking because it's an Indian company." And I am like if that's the reasoning of customers, then what incentive does the company have to improve its products. It can always gloat about the product being Indian to make to make it sell. That's how and why we don't have a truly international company yet. We are too lost in our own jingoism.
