Very nice interview. I request Mr. N. Chandrashekharn to invest more in quality control and fit and finish. Also tata motor passenger cars need to overhaul its dealer service network. Then it will soon beat Maruti Suzuki in 4-5 years.
One of the best interviews! He is chairman for a reason and can clearly see in his vision.EV as a destination is correct and TAMO pushing towards it is more relevant. Hopefully we will have a Jaguar who can set benchmarks globally
His vision is clear. Its not about what others do..Its all about Understanding your limits and capabilities and do what you can to survive..The safety push over mileage thing is another example what Tata did fantastically great to change the perspective of the middle class while considering a car..Overall a nice interview..
Tata Motors has Transformed itself immensely and great to see Home grown Indian Brand rocking , congratulations to Mr Chandrasekaran for achieving such Feat And Product like Nexon EV shall competitor with other cars and shall help immensely grow in Emerging Markets and Africa and challenge BYD
This is a 2nd (turn-around) act for #TataMotors, first one being in the early to mid-2000s, where Dr. V Sumantran played a pivotal role in its initial PV (passenger vehicle) transformation. Now, Chandra has ably spearheaded the second transformation of #TataMotors into the #EV era. 👏
Tata motors has been doing really well. Their vision is fantastic. As a fan of tata cars and owner of two Tata cars, I request Tata to invest more on quality of service centres and more dealers. If possible separate EV from ICE at dealership and Service centre levels.
Truly a remarkable success story.Ratan Tata decided to make the Company run by professionals and not a Tata family leader. This catupulted Mr Chndrashekar to the top. He is a truly savvy intellectual who understands complexities in managing an Indian Company operating as a foreign firm. JLR was acquired as a loss maker but Tata has synerized with its Indian operations for global competiveness. Hats off Tata and Mr Chnadrashekhar
Yes n chandrashekaran, and sailesh chandra, kulkarni etc for EV too good. Never thought as an EV enthusiast tata EV will make such good cars ! Waiting for harrier ev AWD. Good vid.
Wonderful interview initiative with a visionary leader, who transformed Indian car industry with high safety standards. Kudos to both chairman's for their technology hunger and supply chain resilience.
Good to see that Mr. Chandrashkharan taking a bet on EV. Excellent Interview by Hormazd. All futuristic transportation belongs to EV. But we don't know when it will take off in 3 years or 5 or 10+ years. Some technical/engineering advancements are needed and it will decide the speed of adaptation by the customer. Some of the critical are 1) Energy/power density of Battery - so that it will have a high range and load capacity of at least 60 to 70 % of IC engines 2) Battery life and Battery cost 3) Battery charging maximum in 15 minutes All of the above are technical/engineering advancements - It will definitely happen in the future but at what speed? Some of the other important things are (not least) 1. Quantum of electricity generation (at least in India). 2. There is a small efficiency benefit in using carbon-based electricity generation. So it's become necessary to shift to non-carbon based electricity to get a good benefit of EV. So it's challenging to shift to that base in the next 4-5 years. 3. Charging infrastructure - Although it will need huge efforts. But as compared to the above things it can done by a good amount of govt. and private players. 4. Environmental effect of battery disposal. All these things will happen and the speed of those things will decide the readiness of the majority of customers to adopt EVs in their daily lives. If govt. and private players try to forcefully dump EV on customers, it is not going to happen.
Verry informative for all us privte corporate job work force in every industry you need visionary leader ,transperant, risk taker ,real out of box thinkers and never loose grip on ground they stand and grip on their customers need and aspiration in cost effective manner and give returns to stakeholders too on investment.🙏Salute to N chandreshakaran ji and his visionary leadership. Thanks a lot Hormazd Sorabjee for such informative interview.👍❤️🙏👍
N. Chandra Sir is the best strategy person to look for most top leaders in and out of Tatas. He moves things fast, agile and provable. Absolutely crisp and clear 👌
Such an illuminating discussion, with pertinent questions and honest answers. Excited for the future of Tata Motors and the Indian auto scene! Kudos to Hormazd and the Autocar India team! 👏
The transformation towards feature-rich and safer cars is impressive. Now, the key focus should be on significantly advancing Sales and Service. Hopefully, this will lead to overall improvement.
Tata Motors have invested in R&D,Design and changed the image of Tata cars since last decade but now its hight time to invest in people who run this the aftersales and Service tata motors should Train their customer Executives and Service executives with proper knowledge about the car and service and to solve the issues related to it
My observations for Mr. N. Chandrasekaran: overall, a very good interview. As one rooting for an Indian automotive brand to make it into the top global league, I have a few observations: 1. TM should use Ford's erstwhile motto (don't know if they still say this): "Quality is Job #1" and live up to it. 2. I don't own a TM car, but one of my occasional pastimes is to compare "tolerance" between body panels of Indian brands with some of the iconic global ones. A lot of difference still, I am afraid. This has to be fixed. 3. When I speak to friends who own one or other TM brand, they tell me the dealership / service really sucks. When you go overseas, this can kill a brand. Better to address this in the home country. 4. Great brands are built at home - and I mean, home. That means building great product designs, build quality, customer experience, service, features, fit and finish, etc that is hugely accepted and lauded first in the home market. It's worth keeping in mind that the Indian auto market is still immature, so a lot of things that get accepted in domestic products - as shown by the sales curve going up - is not fully indicative of what consumers value that may be divergent with what those in mature markets value. This maturation curve will go up and Indians will, in time, compare with others abroad but in the meantime, the acceptance rate should not lull manufacturers into a chalta hai attitude and pass of products when it could be vastly improved. 5. Indian product design still in its infancy and can be greatly improved. I am not particularly a fan of current auto designs on offer from Indian automotive manufacturers, finding them big, ugly, macho, and sorely lacking in aesthetics. When the brand goes abroad, these will matter - especially for non-SUVs. They have to up their game on this. 6. Indian brands could afford to be - at this early part of the game when it's mostly domestic sales - to try a few things that make them stand out from the crowd - quirky, funky, retro being some ideas. For a start, TM could consider purchasing all the rights to some really good retro models from OEMs abroad - such as the PT Cruiser from Stellantis that sold very well in the US markets or the VW Beetle from Volkswagen if they are ready to junk it. There are many other great retros that could be fully redesigned for an EV experience, such as the Citroen DS, BMW 7 Series from the 1970s, and so on. Among contemporary models, Toyota has many in the 2000s - Sienta, Porte, C-HR, and the Prius or the Twingo from Renault.
All the best to the Tata group and to mr.chandra .Keep the fire going on and stand for the values of Mr.Ratan Tata.Om shanthi to the great soul of Mr.Ratan Tata.
Excellent Turnaround for Tatamotors by Mr N Chandrashekaran. Next razor sharp focus is on after sales and service. It has to see the turn around to establish the faith in support
good interview, would love to listen more of Mr. Chandrashekharan, now only if you had touched upon HV Critical Error in the EVs, we owners would have enjoyed it much more
Great interview, great personality.... only request, only humble request, please don't design similar looking front cars, SUV.... instead of too futuristic looking please have some retro style,
I request Tata Motors to simplify the passenger car model variant options.. it's too complicated.. keep it simple Economy/Standard, Mainstream and Premium..
As a happy Tata punch ev owner Tata should start focusing on improving the fit and finish.. there is still a lot scope. The world needs a alternate to china and a solid product in US market with affordable pricing can be a huge win
great passion for the products by the chairman .Please look at the panel gaps and after sales service .That s a dealbreaker for many .EV charging grid is growing but not at the pace you could envision.
Glad Hormazd pressed on about engine options. It does seem that there is something they are working on that they don’t want to disclose. There are multiple linkages. Even with a common diesel engine being used, the workshop experience and cer reliability is average. If one were to introduce an all new engine option, the experience would further deteriorate. Hence I don’t see them moving to anything else until there is a reliability and service experience fix.
I would request Autocar and Tata motors to focus on cars GST and Cess charged to customers on wired rules of length ground clearance and engine specifications. With better highway infrastructure coming better cars are required for safety.
Kudos to Mr.Chandrashekran for having the vision but during the interview I see the arrogance on claiming that EV is the future..... but as a consumer I may defer as we speak now, I would say I like what toyota said EV can we a option but not the only way forward...post EU removing all the subsidiaries it seem more and more inviable..... RR/JLR/TATA cars also need improvement by leaps and bounds...hopefully we see quality improvement
I am looking forward to getting a battery charger generator to charge battery while running 100kms for 10 litre petrol in the boot. It will boost EV sales by removing range anxiety.
Why AMT or any automatic car's available in base varient? We need the automatic engine with minimal features but companies push us extra features and extra money for automatic car's. We are ready to pay difference amount between base manual vs base AMT. But now we available was base manual vs mid AMT.
Vehicle's are good, but waiting for more than 2 weeks for bumper is too much. Tata has to go long way to match Ford's or Hyundai-Kia or Toyota-Suzuki service and Customer Retention Quality

TATA Motors transformation from Indica to Curvv is incredible!
Happy to see Chandra. He came from my hometown.
It was nice to hear the Tata Motors PCB turnaround story straight from the General's mouth. Mr. Chandrasekaran comes across as a man on a mission.

Amazing to hear "The Man" speaking himself around what's been a remarkable turnaround for Tata Motors in the last 5 years.
He is a superman
Amazing clarity from the man at the top - Mr N Chandra and thanks Hormazd for a great set of questions.

Very Beautiful Interview ❤ Enjoyed It
Excellent Turnaround for Tatamotors by Mr N Chandrashekaran. Next razor sharp focus is on after sales and service. It has to see the turn around to establish the faith in support
Request is to re launch nano ev and ice....and give a car in competition to bolero neo, creta, ...
We are proud to see that TATA Motor , the Indian Giant have taken over British Motor.
It's fascinating to listen how a TATA group chairman thinks.
Tata motors have always made great design like sierra, estate, safari, sumo, indica, nano but missed out badly on refinement, fineness.
Just one word... Enlightening..👍
Sir, improve interior ergonomic issues, exterior fit and finish, and software issues.
good interview, would love to listen more of Mr. Chandrashekharan, now only if you had touched upon HV Critical Error in the EVs, we owners would have enjoyed it much more
Amazing Leader...
Thank you for tata ev, you are the competition for upcoming byd cars
Thanks for bringing the interview
Great interview, great personality.... only request, only humble request, please don't design similar looking front cars, SUV.... instead of too futuristic looking please have some retro style,
Fantastic 👏
Chandrashekaran is a good manager. Smart guy and need more quality in car product. They are still lagging in finish and quality in product.
Need Mr N Chandra's interview on Air India.
Brilliant Content as usual 👌🏼🤘🏻💯🚗
Informative One . Better IC Engine to Beat Hyundai Better Profit & Market Share
Autocar is producing some of the amazing podcasts 😊
Had a Great conversation ❤

Making india shine in automobiles tata, Mahindra 🎉🎉
I request Tata Motors to simplify the passenger car model variant options.. it's too complicated.. keep it simple Economy/Standard, Mainstream and Premium..
As a happy Tata punch ev owner Tata should start focusing on improving the fit and finish.. there is still a lot scope. The world needs a alternate to china and a solid product in US market with affordable pricing can be a huge win
Good interview
Very inspiring one …
Chandrasekarn is the top quality person he is game changer of tata motors present time top mgt in tata motors !
great passion for the products by the chairman .Please look at the panel gaps and after sales service .That s a dealbreaker for many .EV charging grid is growing but not at the pace you could envision.

We want to see Tata passengers cars are selling and dominating in Europe, South America, Africa and other Asian countries.
Great interview hormaz.
Great to end it on a fun note. 😂
I would request Autocar and Tata motors to focus on cars GST and Cess charged to customers on wired rules of length ground clearance and engine specifications. With better highway infrastructure coming better cars are required for safety.
42:00 service cost and affordability after battery warranty.must be affordable

Still use our Nano will retain it in remembrance of Sir Ratan Tata ❤❤❤
I am looking forward to getting a battery charger generator to charge battery while running 100kms for 10 litre petrol in the boot. It will boost EV sales by removing range anxiety.
Sir ,When are you going to come on to Twitter, Instagram to connect with public 🙏😊
Welcome 🎉🎉🎉
I have never bought tata cars in my life. But I will try

We are ready to pay difference amount between base manual vs base AMT. But now we available was base manual vs mid AMT.
Vehicles fuelled with Hydrogen will be next game changer.
EV are a pitstop till the technology comes up just a matter of time.
All the best
Range Rover ev will produce in solihull uk, right?
Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, India.
also if the car battery can also double as inverter in the house will be simply great
Nice Interview But Where is The Creata Rival and Bigger Failure than Nano
@Hormazd Sorabjee, Nano will have any come back on EV fleet?
he thnks he has achieved something. once Chinese ev comes, game over for tata.
Vehicle's are good, but waiting for more than 2 weeks for bumper is too much. Tata has to go long way to match Ford's or Hyundai-Kia or Toyota-Suzuki service and Customer Retention Quality
I think tata motor in correct hand
Both Mahindra and Tata missed the hybrid technology bus by focusing on EVs only. Now it is becoming difficult for them to beat the Maruti and Toyota
Kindly focus on after sales and support. Also fit and finish need improvement.
Fit?&finish of Tata vehicles are comparable to any other brands Comments are usually made by people who have never driven a Tata car
Who's investing in TATA after this interview?
1200 share at 1064 price
Waiting for Tata service centre for its comeback
Tata motors came out with good products. Now must get into Hybrids
Please Tata Motor if You Want to be Successful in C Segment You Have to Have a Creata Rival
Its not him but ceo Marc started to built car on alfa platform which now rated 5 GNCAP not him.
Tata motors has no cost advantage over the batteries which are the costliest components in the electric car over the long run.
Not bullish on TML
Woowww
1st to comment. Let's go Tata.
