Mine just died today along with my car battery. Pep Boys was happy to take it back, but something told me to hold onto it, and figure this out. So thanks for posting!

5 years late seeing this.. but I have one of these here in the house "somewhere"... so, gonna open it up and see if I can find a replacement battery for it. Thanks.

Consider buying an OBD2 memory saver adapter for that box and the next time you need to change a car battery you won't loose all your presets and ECU settings. They plug into a 12v cigarette port on a jump box like what you just fixed and cost about $10. What a deal you got for yourself!

Oh! What's Chris up to? was my reaction to seeing a video from you, and I was pleased to see you helping to save the planet. Talking about those self-tapping screws going into plastic, I guess you know that a way to prevent cross-threading when replacing a screw, is to turn it backwards until it 'clicks' THEN screw it in. As you like to start screws rather than drive them home immediately, you wouldn't suffer much from having to use a hand screwdriver first to be able to do the backwards turns.

I like how you said "in my opinion, the battery is bad" rather than stating it as a fact. It's a subtle thing that separates what I consider to be an intelligent person from a "not-so-intelligent" person 😆

Hey I got one the same way but it's a nice teal color. I did all the same things and then I had to call the company because the k&k meter didn't work. I haven't replaced it yet but get this they have never heard of a teal colored one. It's their product how could they not know of the colors they used? So I asked him if he wanted it for his museum? I don't know. showroom? I never heard back.

Should you get a reading at the clamps when the booster is not turned on?

    • @TheChrisPineWorkshop
      @TheChrisPineWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Turned on? There is no on off it is always on so to speak. Yes you should get a reading. The button is just to activate teh meter to see what charge the unit has on it.

I assume you mean teh battery like this one for a jumper box? You are saying ti will not recharge any higher than 8.7 volts? If s it probably is teh battery. Auto Zone might be able to put there tester on ti but generally these batteries eventually wear out and won't charge up.

    *These things are trash....*
I have yet to come across one of these *'Portable Jump Boxes'* that you can keep in your vehicle for more than a week before they no longer hold a charge.
I have tried every brand I could find, *Black & Decker* / *NAPA* / *Schumacher* you name it, and they all seem to require you to use them daily, or they become just something taking up space in your trunk that has no purpose whatsoever.
*Don't rely on these portable jump boxes*
They will work *once maybe,* right out of the box, but after that they are just clutter that does nothing.
    *Just get some cables!!*

I have 2 old jump boxes that I bought new many years ago, but they no longer charge.
I've used both of them a gazillion times throughout the years, so they certainly paid for themselves many times over.
I didn't keep mine in the vehicle all the time here because in the winter, the wind chill can reach 30 below. Those temps will destroy any battery. I'd pack mine in and out of the house with me in order to keep them in working order.
I think I may fix them both as a diy project some day soon. Thanks for the video.
