People usually act funny like if they give you a jump their car will be destroyed so they come up with all kinds of excuses not to help you. Helped lots of people who have needed a jump through the years. Would love to win a powerpack so I don't have to worry about damage to my car. Thanks for doing what you do. :)
I still have the original jump start device I bought back in 1996 and it still works fine. It's only 250 Amps but I've used it to jump start small compact car batteries and run small air compressors for tire maintenance and to blow up our Zodiac RIB for 11 years. It has sat for over a year before and still recovered after charging. The directions on the back say to recharge it after use and/or every 3 months. So apparently, even the cheap ones can provide decent service.
What's cool about the bigger LA jumpers is that a lot of them are coming with air compressors built into them now, which is pretty neat. But Pro-Tip, maybe get your own tire press gauge to verify the built-in one is calibrated correctly.
Thanks for all of the advice you've given to us all and it's been a life and money saving event, I appreciate your work as a mechanic that's outright honest, keep up the great work Scotty Kilmer, would love to talk with you one day in person!!!
Tried to jump start my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban with the old school jump pack but it would not crank even though the pack was fully charged. Wish I had seen this video sooner and learned it is safe to connect to the negative post when the unit is switched off. Thanks for yet another informative video!
I'd probably go with something like the Autowit Supercap 2. It is a supercapacitor charger. You don't have to worry about it losing charge. It used the "dead" battery's power to jump start itself. A really cool guy named Scotty did a video on it a while back and strongly recommended it. :)
HOW TO FIND SCOTTY ON THIS JUMP STARTER ... WE WOULD LIKE TO LOCATE THE INGO.. ( YES SCOTTY IS THE BEST FOR AUTO USE & ADVICE ) LOVE THAT GUYS INFO. A WORTHWILE VISIT ANY TIME FROM HIM IS USEFULL. RANOFBOSTON1AUG2023
The problem with those lithium units is that they have flimsy small-gauge power cables and you can only crank for a very short time before they overheat and turn off. If you have a car that needs extended cranking they won't work for you. You also have to wait for a while between crank attempts, and usually have to mess around holding down special buttons, etc. just to get it to provide max power. The lead-acid ones are bulky and heavy but they're better suited to the task of cranking an engine and MUCH better in terms of ease-of-use. They are starting to make ones that combine the best of both worlds. Basically all the benefits of the larger units but powered by a lithium battery.
Personally, I use the NOCO Genius Boost GB70.... It has saved me twice and even got to help out someone on the job... Once fully charged, it can hold a charge for over a year or more... Talking from my own experience...
Yup . . . NOCO is the best IMO. I have had my GB70 for a year. I keep it in a double flame proof bag and try to avoid storing it in severe temps for long periods. Dont rapid charge it either. Great jump battery. Look it up on TH-cam.
Scotty I bought this because of your recommendation. The link you have posted did not work for me. It went to an older version that was not available. However, later after I ordered it and it arrived same day I thought I would make a post to thank you and I checked to link and now it works. Weird.... This jumper works just like you said. My black and decker charger did not have the power to start my wife’s 2016 RX 350 but topvision started it first try. Thank you for your wise advice.
If you have a phone and at least 1 friend with car, you don't even need to invest in this. Better save money for the next thing that certainly needs replacing (knock on wood) :)
I have the exact same one, the Stanley. It worked once, when I first got it and with a full charge. It never jumped a car again. I basically use it as a mobile battery with the cigarette lighter port. The lights a little handy but not by much.
I appreciate knowing which one of those jump-starting devices REALLY works. So many brag about working but are flops. Because of your video I've got one coming. Thanks for the down and dirty facts, keep up the great videos. Bradcrafter
Clean non-offensive comment. A buddy has a lithium-ion starter pack. He mostly uses it to charge his phone, and 10 other people’s phones. They work pretty well!
Thank you. I could not get the jump-starter to work until I connected the- POS & the NEG -then turned on the on switch. (Attching it to the frame, per the instructions, wasn't working.) Now that I did what you said, my 2014 Chevy Tahoe started right up.
Arent those ones expensive? Regardless, I'll stick with li ion. They are very reliable and will start a completely flat battery, which the capacitor ones won't do, you need some juice plus you have to wait for it to juice up!
I also bought Scotty's recommended super capacitor unit. It works but I personally will stick to using my giant and really heavy lead acid battery jump starter. The reason for this is it's just a real car battery housed in a plastic shell. If my car's battery every fully crapped out I would just run the car on the jumper pack.
You caught my attention I’m a female with grand girls and that would help me with my Chevrolet truck you were very informative I will continue to listen to to your channel I do need one of these Thk u
@@rockoyouthman Thanks for the information. Nothing beats an actual user review. The lithium battery units still go weak over time without periodic recharging, if you believe the reviews, so the ultra-capacitor type sounded like a winner.

I have been watching this man for a year now. Much knowledge. Then as soon as I turn on TH-cam. He was my first video. And I am in the market for a jump starter. Till I seen this video, now it made me relook at what I am really looking for a jump starter. Shakraan Lak شكرا لك (!Thank You)
Great tutorial! Years ago, I bought a 50 lead acid jump starter and regretted that. Cheap starter is just that. I.bought a jnc 550a that is a power house. Long term warranty and it also has a tire pump. It stays in my trunk and seems to have a good shelf life
I too had cheap jump starter for a while but it was crap. It couldn't even start my riding mower because it needed to crank for a while to start so it ran out of power haha. Now i have a "DIY starter" set. I bought 500cca battery in my trunk along with 25mm2 start cables. I already jump started a tractor with this set so there's plenty of power and the cables are thick enough so they don't waste the power into heat unlike thin wires in cheap jump starters. And i also bought tire pump that i can use with the battery power.
I just recently discovered your video channel and as a long time amateur mechanic as I am a cheap car nut I really apprieciate your great advice videos and humor too.Very welcome is your info on Li ion starter packs as well as the super capacitor and lead acid packs. I notice a lot of the cheaper lead acid packs at thrift stores and yard sales and because they usually sit too long uncharged and have high internal resistance like a car battery they are usually not worth buying but after taking one apart I believe they can be recycled by changing out the battery and either putting a new one from internet or maybe a computer back up power supply, etc. but only the more expensive ones with tire inflator extra 12v.outlet or light would be worth it now that the Li ion ones have come down in price, but the ones you can recharge from a cig. Lighter outlet while car running and then use to run 12v.coolers or sound systems and such while camping with no 120 v.outlets available are still cool especially for houseless people. I use mine to run a 12v.little guitar amp for playing out in the forest.Anyway I am a cheapskate and got mine practically unused from a friend who bought one too low in CCA to start his F 250 but starts my 2.2 Subaru motor just fine and got me out of trouble when winter weather caused car battery to go down in CCA. Also I believe a lot more of the lead acid starter packs have the recharge by car DC or AC option as well as tire inflator option which should make up somewhat for their bulkiness. Thanks again for the excellent video instruction especially the info on reading scanner data maybe you would like to do a comparison on some of the cell phone OBD 2 dongles. Thanks again
So glad I saw this. Thank you Scotty. I REALLY NEED this jump starter. I am a 70 yr old widow. My car battery went out just last week & I had to wait 2 hours for road side assistance. Car battery is cranking my car ok so far, so I haven't replaced it yet but this should would help me out just in case of another emergency 👍👍

Scotty, based on your recommendation here, I recently purchased a Topvision G26 car starter. I figured it could be a life saver under certain circumstances. Tonight I got my first chance to use it. Fortunately, I was at home in a heated garage, because it did not work. The voltmeter integrated into the cables read my battery at 9.5 volts, so I know I had a solid connection between the cables and the battery terminals. The G26 meter was at 100% charge, so I know the starter was fully charged. The cable assembly was firmly plugged into the slot on the G26. I thought it was odd when I opened the car door and the dome light was still dimly lit. I turned the key, and . . . nothing. I feel like I just paid $90 for an inferior flashlight . . .
@@amp12345amp I returned the G26. Replaced my battery the following day, and the car started right up. No issues with the vehicle since then, so I'm pretty sure the Topvision was defective . . .
There are negatives to some li ion jump packs. Some won’t start if they sense no voltage at the car battery. My son’s cobra charger would not start up due to his mistake in leaving the dome light in overnight! It’s actually in the instructions on that charger, from Costco. And there are some real advantages to the lead acid chargers. They can provide 12 v continuous for long periods. Handy when working on vehicles. Many li ion packs time out after a short while
I have the Stanley, although the 1200 version. Mine is about four years old and I've used it six different times on my and others vehicles. Works flawlessly and...yes...it is lead acid and is still going strong.
Good to know about the difference between the jump starters. As always thank you Scotty for making something foggy look like a summer day ! Always amazed at your simplicity when explaining auto mechanics!
House watching your video says free Monday mechanic I am trying to enter see if I can get a free jump starter kit my battery was drained and I needed a jump
I've had a lead acid one with a couple USB ports and an auto 12v outlet that stays plugged in. Everyone uses it from charging phones to using 12v devices when not in the car. It has even been used in the backseat of the car to provide additional power outlets. It has started all the cars, trucks and my tractor over and over. It also has a tire pump which is used but not often. The LED lights are used during every power outage as an emergency area light.Would you be surprised to hear it is 7+ years old? Yes I know it may fail at any time. It has paid for itself dozens and dozens of times.
uh,,,, He did pay attention. He didn't say 'never' to use, just suggested to go with the newer tech. Head over to Big Clive's channel where he does a tear-down or two of these jump packs that have failed. I think you'll be surprised.
He should have said Never buy... It's old tech that still works. But if you're buying, go lithium. My Black & Decker jump starter , air pump is 6 years old and works great.
Great info. I've been watching your videos for the past six months. As a 69 yr old that purchased his first car in 1969, good to know you are keeping up with new tech.

Lamfao ....love this
*picard facepalm*
This show has saved me so many headaches, thanks Scotty!
Tried to jump start my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban with the old school jump pack but it would not crank even though the pack was fully charged. Wish I had seen this video sooner and learned it is safe to connect to the negative post when the unit is switched off. Thanks for yet another informative video!
I bought the Topvision jump starter and now I can't wait to have a dead battery.
Just leave your lights on overnight. ;)
LOL.
PongoXBongo lol
HAHAHA😂
Careful what you wish for?:)
Scotty had no idea there was such a powerful compact jumpstart, thanks again for the great info!
I'd probably go with something like the Autowit Supercap 2. It is a supercapacitor charger. You don't have to worry about it losing charge. It used the "dead" battery's power to jump start itself. A really cool guy named Scotty did a video on it a while back and strongly recommended it. :)
surprised he didn't mention all 3 types!
Thank you! You answered my question on why I see people connect positive to positive and negative to negative using these things!
Same, no others compare to noco.
Yup . . . NOCO is the best IMO. I have had my GB70 for a year. I keep it in a double flame proof bag and try to avoid storing it in severe temps for long periods. Dont rapid charge it either. Great jump battery. Look it up on TH-cam.
@@MoneyShot702 Check out the JNC325...coming soon! :)
Yup, I'll take one of those jump starters too Scotty! THANKS!
Lithium ion battery charge box? Scotty just taught me something! Thanks.
I didn't know about these either!
Rev up your lithium Ion jump starter pack, that would make a swell post fathers day gift (or mothers day gift too)
What if you're one of the Jenner kids?
Barry Bamb Then it would EXPLODE !

I need to stop watching.your videos, yet another product I now have to buy. Thanks for the good info.
If you have a phone and at least 1 friend with car, you don't even need to invest in this. Better save money for the next thing that certainly needs replacing (knock on wood) :)
Friends have their own problems, do your friends a favor and buy one.
New twist for Scotty, something TO buy, and not a "to NOT buy this junk" recommendation! ;)
I have the exact same one, the Stanley. It worked once, when I first got it and with a full charge. It never jumped a car again. I basically use it as a mobile battery with the cigarette lighter port. The lights a little handy but not by much.
Best channel on TH-cam about everything car related!
I got your email..
Thanks for rigging the giveaway and letting me win the battery Uncle Scotty.
XD
Im his 94 celica, ill sell it to you for even cheaper

Scotty is number one on my list out of those I trust when it comes to the ins and outs of vehicles. Real recognize real!
I appreciate knowing which one of those jump-starting devices REALLY works. So many brag about working but are flops. Because of your video I've got one coming. Thanks for the down and dirty facts, keep up the great videos.

Thank you, Scotty!

A buddy has a lithium-ion starter pack. He mostly uses it to charge his phone, and 10 other people’s phones. They work pretty well!
Thank you for this useful information! My lead battery starter I think is starting to go bad.
Thank you.
I could not get the jump-starter to work until I connected the- POS & the NEG -then turned on the on switch. (Attching it to the frame, per the instructions, wasn't working.) Now that I did what you said, my 2014 Chevy Tahoe started right up.
I'm glad you showed the one that works best. I'll tell my friends. I only knew of the old one. Thank you Scotty for your great advice. 🔔
I bought one of the super capacitor jump starters you reviewed a few months ago. Ill never go back to a battery based starter again!!!
They all are battery based!🤦♂️
@@edwardthayer9386 nope
Sounds expensive
Arent those ones expensive? Regardless, I'll stick with li ion. They are very reliable and will start a completely flat battery, which the capacitor ones won't do, you need some juice plus you have to wait for it to juice up!
I also bought Scotty's recommended super capacitor unit. It works but I personally will stick to using my giant and really heavy lead acid battery jump starter. The reason for this is it's just a real car battery housed in a plastic shell. If my car's battery every fully crapped out I would just run the car on the jumper pack.
Clean, non-offensive comment. BTW, I watch all of your videos. They are very informative for a non-gearhead like me.
You caught my attention I’m a female with grand girls and that would help me with my Chevrolet truck you were very informative I will continue to listen to to your channel I do need one of these
Thk u
Fun watching all your shows for years. Great info and light humor from a genius. Fix me many times, thanks Scotty.
I really like the idea of the ultra-capacitor jump starter you've touched on in a previous video.
comlbbeau I bought it and it was a total fsilure
@@rockoyouthman Thanks for the information. Nothing beats an actual user review. The lithium battery units still go weak over time without periodic recharging, if you believe the reviews, so the ultra-capacitor type sounded like a winner.
As usual Scotty nails it! The man's videos should be required learning!!
My 30 yr. old Schumacher charger just died, so I was hoping you had info on new charger/starters, and you did. So you've helped a lot buddy ! Thanks...
Can lithuim ones blow up tho like a lithium phone battery is supposed to possibly?
I got one of those old lead acid starters. Scotty, you had me worried there for a moment.
Ima buy this but Ill wait to see if I win one from Scotty 1st!!!! 🤗👍🏻
I have been watching this man for a year now. Much knowledge. Then as soon as I turn on TH-cam. He was my first video. And I am in the market for a jump starter. Till I seen this video, now it made me relook at what I am really looking for a jump starter. Shakraan Lak شكرا لك (!Thank You)
Just in time.
I was ready to replace my old jump pack that no longer works, and I would have made the same mistake again, thank you Scotty
Careful. The lithium jump packs don't have the reserve capacity like lead acid do. Also seem to be higher failure rate.
This is one of those videos that I simply can't resist subscribing to and hitting the like button.
Love your videos, that power pack beats jumper cables anytime.
Love the new intro Scotty!! Keep up the great work sir. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you!!
Sign me up Scotty, I have 1 in my truck but sure could use another for the wife’s. Keep the advice coming, thanks.
Now if you had a trickle charger in the trunk it would be perfect.....always 100%!
Thanks Scotty.
I love your New intro!! Nice video take care!
the video title says "never use" but the video content says "definitely use"
The title says never use the lead acid jump start the vid says use the ion battery jump start.. They are different animals.
Hey Scotty I always get a charge from your informative videos. God Bless and keep them coming. Thanks

Love your channel Scotty!
Most of us carry jumper cables around in our vehicles; sounds like one of these little dudes would be good to have too!! Rare to see Scotty actually like something!! :)
I turned the key, and . . . nothing.
I feel like I just paid $90 for an inferior flashlight . . .
@William Bracale....did you ever find out if it was a problem with the Topvision unit or something else?
@@amp12345amp I returned the G26. Replaced my battery the following day, and the car started right up. No issues with the vehicle since then, so I'm pretty sure the Topvision was defective . . .
You’re a legend, thank you so much for your hard work Scotty!!
Betach achi!
Many li ion packs time out after a short while
Scotty, this show was electrifying. Now I feel charged to go forward with my day👍🍻
I have the Stanley, although the 1200 version.
That lithium battery jumpe starter , would be great 👍 to help rew up my engine. 😉
Glad i didnt buy one of those $180 stanley jump starters earlier this year, i returned it after unboxing it lol
So which jump starter should I 'never' use?
lead acid bro. pay attention.
uh,,,, He did pay attention. He didn't say 'never' to use, just suggested to go with the newer tech. Head over to Big Clive's channel where he does a tear-down or two of these jump packs that have failed. I think you'll be surprised.
@@Tedybear315 thanks for your comment.
He should have said
Never buy...
It's old tech that still works.
But if you're buying, go lithium.
My Black & Decker jump starter , air pump is 6 years old and works great.
The lead-acid jump start boxes work better, have better capacitance and have better reserve capacity.
