- I share with you some foundational knowledge of lacquer, enamel, and acrylic paints and thinners; how to judge what details are appropriate for enamel hand painting; and hands-on techniques for smooth and clean finishes. Using Testors and Tamiya Enamel paints, I demonstrate on my Mechanicore Ziegler's work in progress. Whether your gunpla kit is painted or not, hand painting with enamel can help bring out the details in your kit, without an airbrush!

I enjoy it too! Well, I think we just feel that way with whatever is not available, cuz Testors is much harder to get in Korea than Tamiya, and Koreans like to use the metallic colors XD I think Testors metallics is better than Tamiya though!
hand painting with acrylic and trying to clean it up was newr impossible

@@frostedsnow when I done some figures I primed them with mr surfacer 1000 white and then used humbrol enamel paint on it and it didn't stick.
I've been hand painting for decades, this is the most informative and demonstrative explanation of painting properties I've seen in the Gunpla world yet. Your part on the strengths and weaknesses of placing the paint was inspired, it's things you develop a knack for but never think to illustrate. Perfect. Your content continues to be totally amaze-balls.

I can't believe it, in the first 3 minutes you made clear something I was so confused about regarding paints; the deal with enamels and acrylics and paints and why painting over one was ok and painting over another was not, or why using x type of top coat was bad on x type of paint. No one ever explained exactly why! It makes so much sense now!! Thank you!!!

Hands down one of the best instructional videos on paint that I have EVER seen. I'm passing this along to my WarHammer friends as well because I think you bring up some great points and tips on how to approach design and paint selection. The illustration's really pushed, some fuzzy knowledge through, about how to layer different paint systems and base's.
It gave me the basic knowledge i wanted to learn.
I lean towards lacquer and enamel based systems which most channels do not cover.

That piece of advice that you gave around airbrushing in lacquer, then doing any hand painting in enamel was incredibly valuable. I've watched about a dozen videos on painting gunpla, and none of them have broken it down as clearly. Thank you!

@@frostedsnow I am doing Warhammer 40k as I also play those before. But now I am looking as warhammer aos and bushido, their figures look interesting. :)
I'm looking for ways ( techniques) to detail Action figures and I thought to come to the paining pros. I know action figures are a type of rubber but I figure the techniques are still solid. This was very informative. I also see that I should be avoiding enamel fumes 😁. I have been just using this paint as is. Its short sessions, but as you point out, safety first. thanks.

This was incredibly helpful. I'm pretty fresh to the whole painting bit of model building and only have equipment for hand painting. I've had some issues where my second strokes wash out my first layer. Now i have a much better understanding of what paints to use where and what to shop for when planning my builds. Thank you!

Nice!!! Clarifying any info that I need for Enamel hand painting. Never thought of using thinner to thinned them out when the paint got too thick. I was taught to just use them straight out of the cap.
Right! It's not immediately obvious that paints already contain thinner, hence we can mix the two. Well, I do use it just straight out of the cap too :) Thanks for your comment!
