So glad I found you. I have been going to the same gynecologist for the past 20yrs. With all the issues I went to her for, not once did she ever discuss or mention menopause. So sad. I will be finding a new doctor. Thank you.

I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 34, so I have had to track my menopause via blood work. I was post menopausal a year ago, but didn't do HRT until just 2 months ago. My NP wasn't a fan, but I told her I had done my research and felt confident in my decision. She would not give me progesterone because I don't have a uterus, but how do I not become estrogen dominant? I am a retired ob/gyn RN.
Thank you for what you do. Although my family thinks I'm obsessed, I keep hearing your words in my head and I keep plugging along.

Can you look for a new provider? Sounds like if this one isn't into it, they probably won't be doing research to help you. I'm always ok with someone who is willing to learn with me. I see the standard OB/Gyn - even 'menopause specialist' don't always understand the benefits of progesterone. They seem to think it is only needed to protect the uterus, but it has SO many benefits aside from that - improved sleep being one. I know some neurologists who are using it for that and the mood symptoms. I would not want to take estrogen without it. I think Dr. Haver really cares and she seems like one who is able to think outside of the box, and what the mainstream pushes; b/c there are often problems with that. Studies are often flawed in fact, a Harvard Study showed about 80%! So, thank goodness she talks about listening to the patient and their symptoms. That will tell you more than any randomized double blind study - which is not the only way to learn. Get your progesterone!

From Boston. 51. I’m starting to seek education and HRT. My female OBGYN told me exactly what you just said in this. “You’re just getting older. Compounding pharmacies doesn’t work and it’s a big waste of money…etc. “ I was SO disappointed in her! I left that annual feeling completely unsupported. I am spending more than half the year now in Florida and am currently starting HRT. Thank you for everything you are doing!

My doctor gave me a T prescription when I told her I no longer wanted to do the pellet process. It has been impossible to find a pharmacy that will fill that Medicine and they won’t even give me the pricing for it since it’s a controlled substance. So if I want the help with my muscle mass, which I do, it’s back to the pellet. Pellet by the way was a low dose T and it was very helpful for me for wanting to workout and feel like being more active. There is a place for pellets, especially the testosterone, and I now appreciate more that my local obgyn office offers it!

I am so glad I found you. I talked my new OBGYN on giving me a script for Combipatch , you mentioned a generic but I cant find it. The cost for Combipatch was a bit high. I have been suffering for 12 years premenopausal with many strange effect. I read info on your site and now I have more answers. I no longer drive because I would have dizzy spells which would scare the crap out of me. I felt like I was going crazy. Anxiety is crazy with heart palpations my Bp would get locked on high ect. I have tried many things over the years. My new gyno took blood work she is focused on testosterone. I am not sure about this. I have only been on the patch for 2 days. I am finally hopeful that I can regain my everyday life. I am 53 yo still having periods. I would be grateful for the generic patch information. I wish I lived in Tx. Maybe some day I will make it out to visit. Thank you for all you do for women.

There is a difference between the Climara and the progesterone micronized. The Climara is a progestin and not bio identical. And because of that, the studies show that it does not negate the risk of breast cancer from the estradiol as well as Prometrium.

I'll tell you why. Most doctors use the diagnostic algorythms they were taught in med school. They only look at lab tests and outside prescribing meds, are CLUELESS what to do for a woman with dry thinning skin and hair, unexplained weight gain, fatigue, sleep disturbances etc. They'll tell you it's normal aging and send you out the door with an antidepressant.

  • @GwenMotoGirl

I hope your new book includes a section on transitioning off the compounds or pellets and getting on to FDA-approved formulations. I’m doing great on compounds, but it’s very expensive, and my provider holds my prescriptions hostage in exchange for DUTCH and other too-frequent labs and follow-up visits. I’m doing great, but it’s either retire and do without my HRT or keep working indefinitely to afford my HRT. thank you for all that you do.

I’ve read that one can continue treatment after menopause but stopping it after a certain age but I’ve also heard that one can take it until they pass away because it is a hormone that we are missing and it’s just like any other hormonal deficiency. If one has an under active thyroid, they don’t stop taking their medication, as well as insulin. Those conditions impact your hormones. I’m on peri menopause now.

Interesting. What else are you doing. - i.e are you under a lot of artificial LED light, AND are you on a phone/computer? It is now known that the blue light emitted from those things will increase blood glucose - hence the move to decrease exposure to those things. So, it might not be your coffee.
I'd love it if you could do an experiment and report back! Depending on where you live, are you able to get up and avoid any artificial light and no contact with phone or computer (or at least very little). I sit out on the front porch and have my coffee, and I admit I often will briefly check the phone - but using it in the sunlight counters the blue light, I also to other things to decrease the blue light from the phone - too much to go into here; but I think it is an area that everything should research - I hope Dr. Haver does also - b/c no lifestyle program (as I consider hers) is complete without considering the light environment in today's world!
And, I'm serious - I'd love to see if this made a difference (might have to give it some time). One the other hand, it may be Dr. H's point - are you drinking flavored coffee? If not, then try the experiment and report back!

Just answering b/c Dr. H didn't. I have heard her and other docs say that as a general rule, 10 years after official menopause (last period). I believe I heard Dr. H mention age 60 - I'm not sure if that is only if the 10 years are already up .. i.e. if menopause was at 52, does one have until 62? But, that is the general guideline; so you are well within the range!

What can I do to convince her it’s ok to put me on a external form of HRT

i'm just someone on YT, but in my experience, if a doc is against something, you aren't going to convince them and if you try, they will just get pissed at you, and you don't want someone caring for you who has a bad attitude toward you. Look for a new doc - try a menopause specialist. I never was on HRT, and I now have missed the 10 year window.. but I'm close, so also want to find out if someone will be willing to make an exception as I am otherwise very healthy. I don't know exactly when I was in full menopause as I was still menstruating regularly when I had a hysterectomy (ovaries left) at 52, so I may still be within 10 years. Anyway, I was doing OK until about 2 years ago, I am on the thin side, and had normal flat abdomen - I only weighed 96 lbs at 5'5" . I gained 8 pounds, but some thought ok b/c I was considered underweight, so that wasn't too bad. But - it didn't stop! My abdomen has kept growing as if I was pregnant! I assume it must be the visceral fat because it is firm and uncomfortable, as if it is full. I am worried b/c there was no change in diet or exercise - in fact, I started eating better and exercising more and normally I would drop weight easily but in 2 months of being serious - nothing. I'm worried it is going to continue; so think I am going to look for a menopause specialist and see what they say. Good luck and keep us posted.

I’m curious if my symptoms are low with diet, is hormone replacement necessary for brain and physical health? My doc said wouldn’t prescribe when had symptoms, but diet has helped tremendously.

Your comments about testosterone got my attention. I’ve been strength training 3-4 days/week- throwing heavy weight around trying to get strong. BUT*** I’m not seeing muscle growth like I would expect. I’m on HRT- Bijuva 100mg
Sooo should I ask for my testosterone levels to be checked and request a prescription?? Or could it be some other reason I’m not getting the muscle definition 🥴🤔🤔
    Love your videos ❤❤

So confused trying to figure out all the info. I'm not thin but not overweight. BMI is good. Does taking taking estrogen cause weight gain or does menopause (no estrogen, no HRT) cause weight gain? I'm about 10 weeks in with lo dose BCP (that's what doc Rxd) and putting on a few pounds, all belly. Not happy. About to transition to Climara Pro patch, but nervous. (The BCPs helped a lot with new anxiety waves and increasing headaches.)
