My husband has an enlarged prostate and difficulty emptying his bladder and leakage throughout the day. I read about pumpkin seeds being helpful so he began taking them. He eats 1/3 cup of raw pumpkin seeds each morning and it’s remarkable at how much it helps him. If he skips a few days he notices a huge difference.
I had very weak pee flow and sometimes even hard to start to pee. Went to doctor and he told that I have normal prostate. I didn’t find any answer. I heard about eating tomatoes and one day I cooked one whole tomato in olive oil. Results were amazing. No more weak pee flow or other pee related problem. I am relaxed and never saw my doctor again. I cook one tomato with eggs and eat it almost every day.
[00:00] Enlarged prostate is a common condition in men. A healthy prostate is about the size of a walnut. [00:26] explanation Prostate enlargement is caused by an increase in activity of an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, a more powerful hormone. [01:17] DHT is supposed to decrease as men age, but an enzyme makes more DHT which enlarges the prostate. [01:44] Medication can reduce prostate enlargement by 23% but has side effects like decreased libido and increased risk of prostate cancer. [02:11] Lycopene is a natural enzyme inhibitor found in tomatoes that can decrease the risk of prostate enlargement and cancer. [02:52] The best source of lycopene is tomatoes. You can eat them fresh, canned, or in tomato sauce/paste. Heat increases bioavailability of lycopene. [03:18] To absorb more lycopene, cook tomatoes with olive oil. [03:48] Milk is bad for the prostate because it contains growth hormones that can enlarge it.

Similar to others, I have an enlarged prostate but my PSA score is super low, I told the doctor I would do anything and everything if it was food and health based and the doctor had absolutely no suggestions. Only wanted to put me on Flomax or some other subscription and kick me out the door and get onto his next appointment. He also tried to put me on statins. My LDL is high but I am not overweight and my blood pressure is excellent, my triglycerides are low my HDL is excellent, my insulin score (HOMA IR) is excellent, I eat really good and exercise five times a week, etc. etc. I am simply done with regular doctors.
Understandable. Over my 70 years, I've found natural solutions to a number of issues where the doctor wanted to do some invasive test or a full on procedure. I 'd like them to be more compassionate about their recommendations and to learn and share natural or holistic solutions. For example, at age 52 , standing a lot for work, my I had a fair amount of pain in my foot.Orthopedist said sure, I can fix that with surgery. Called my dad and he said what size shoe do you wear. He bought and shipped me a pair those fuddy duddy orthopedic shoes. Pain solved in a couple of days and after a short time stopped wearing them. That was the last of it! Another time, with known kidney stone issues, I was having a bit blood in urine.Doc wanted to do a rather uncomfortable, invasive procedure and said 'what do you think'. I said no thank you! What else you got? He suggested flomax... I took it for a short spell and expelled the stone. No fuss no muss. Oh and a friend told me about drinking a glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon, daily, to keep stones at bay. That was some time ago and it seems to have helped dramatically. Told my doc about it after about a year and know what he said? yes, that's a good thing to do.
If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that exercise can cause it to enlarge and even increase PSA. I have an elevated PSA with zero symptoms. I also read somewhere that the PSA test is not a very good tool.
I would like to put forth my deepest thanks to dr Berg, you are my hero. Half a year ago, I was a a tired blob of overweight and a screaming absence of energy, I sat through my days and dreamed of doing stuff. Then, luck would have it that I stumbled on one of your videos on intermittent fasting. I watched it and was in awe about the scientific facts behind it. From there I have watched your videos daily and it has turned my life around. The way you present the mechanics behind the scenes and explains how things (foods and different part of the body) work really inspires me to shape my days in a whole other way than I did before. Now I eat real foods, with nutritional value, in a span of hours that let my body switch to survival mode every day. Nowadays, I sleep around 6 hours, go up, cleans the house, do dishes, repair cars, house, walk my dog and alot more. My life has turned around completely and its mainly because of your videos. 14 years ago I was diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer and was lucky enough to find the Prostate Awareness Foundation who teach diet, exercise and lifestyle change as a solution. I can still remember the chief nutritionist at UCSF Med Center telling us that numerous studies have shown a link between dairy and prostate cancer. Remember, milk is the perfect food… if you’re a calf.
but lioness' milk is quite useful. It makes man supercourageous for whole his life ! In one of his lectures Dr. Berg said that the latest studies have shown that sucklings fed by lion milk have 2,7 times more testosterones than those fed by human milk and about 4,3 times more than by cow milk. Also he pointed out that the milk from wild lionesses eating antelopes and zebras and regularly fighting with males from other prides is far more useful for courage than from lionesses grown in lion farms and fed by meat from soy and corn. A cup of lion milk is a must for healthy breakfast in kindergartens, but to be avoided in nuthouses...
It depends. I’m from East Africa, specifically what they call Nilotics. You can us across the Nile River. We are the tallest ethnic group in the world. Especially the South Sudanese people called Dinkas, the massai people of Kenya and the Rwanda and Burundian people called Tutsi. In our culture we drink a lot and I mean a lot of milk. I probably drink 2 liters every day, so do my parents, my grandparents and my great grand father has been surviving most on milk for the last 15 years. He around 108 years or more. Even he doesn’t remember. But his oldest daughter my grandma is 92. I think the environment and body’s morphology plays a huge role in these things. Also something important I forgot to mention is our cows are not raised in enclosure. They get to walk long distances and get to eat different plants that allow them to produce quality milk. Look up the “Watusi cows”.

I watched another one of your videos where you recommended one whole lemon in almond milk with some blueberries and stevia but found it to be very tart, so I just cut the white part out of the lemon and blinded it up in ACV with some stevia and it really tastes good and it works in shrinking the prostate.
All thru my 30’s and 40’s, now 57, I had prostate issues. My urologist told me, out of all the prostate biopsies that he’s performed. None came back cancerous where the man took zinc every day. I’ve been taking zinc every day for the past 10 yrs, and no issues. No more flomax. Just zinc, vitamin D and fish oil.
@ruger6049 he also said diet too, when my flare ups would occur. It would happen after caffeinated beverages, especially coffee. Or if I had a couple of pizzas a week for dinner or Mexican food. The chemicals/spices in processed foods were causing a lot of flare ups. Along with certain medications, such as, decongestants and cough medication. And of course alcohol is a prostate killer. Those medications/alcohol cause the muscle around the prostate to become inflamed. Squeezing in on the already swollen prostate due to age. Now, I drink a lot of water, and decaffeinated mostly everything else. occasionally a coke or coffee or beer, But in moderation. How can an enlarged prostate be reduced in volume? Correct me if i'm wrong but the enlargement comes from extra tissue growth, not from water, lymph or air. Prevent or slow down the growth sounds feasible though.
Mine shrunk from 64 to 47cc a year after I added lycopene supplements to my regimen. Also doubled up on the Saw Palmetto and added selenium and lots of Omega3. I drink lots of milk, yogourt, kefir etc but here in Canada we don't allow growth hormones or antibiotics in dairy cattle. There are other supplements that also help reduce prostate size and related issues as well. Searching online and avoiding sites like WebMD helped me get back to near normal. 1kg of tomatoes chopped, gently boiled for an hour with 2 American tablespoons (one UK Tablespoon) of Extra Virgin Olive oil. Let cool and eat 100g per day. For me, after two weeks, nearly all symptoms have vanished. As it takes three weeks to get a Dr appointment, I’m on the plus side atm!
An Imperial, (UK), and American Tbsp are both 15ml or 3 tsps each. It's gallons, quarts and pints that are different with the UK or old Canadian ones being 20% larger. 1USG = 3.78L, 1UKG = 4.54L. The seeds and skin of tomatoes are bad for you.

@tomtai8165 Yes BPH can occur(but it is not frequent) without an elevation of the PSA. The later is an indicator of the well being of the prostate. Yes there are cancers of the prostate which do not cause an increase of the PSA, most do though. In general the more enlarged(or inflammed that organ is the higher the PSA level. Getting a checkup followed by a negative result checkup is far better than being told of the presence of a stage 4 later in life.

Drs in North America are forbidden to promote anything not FDA etc approved so it's not just the docs fault. Big Pharma runs most of the medical schools so they are not taught anything about nutrition or supplements. It's not medical care but disease management. Recommend men over 40 eat the following daily for prostate health : 3 tblspns cooked tomato sauce (no sugar), 1 tblspn pomegranate arils (raw), 2 tblspns pumpkin seeds(roast or microwave lightly to soften), 1 brazil nut , 1 cup green tea , cup steamed broccoli, 1 tblspn omega 3 oil or 4,000 mg . Also recommend cutting out dairy if you have an existing prostate issue .
I love my dairy but here in Canada growth hormones and antibiotics are forbidden in dairy cattle so I don't have to give it up. I buy the 2X protein one as I don't eat lots so get a little extra protein that way. My raw pumpkin seeds go into smoothies along with the cashews, almonds, many fruits, hemp seeds and hemp protein powder with kefir and the mentioned milk for the liquid part.
I had a severe problem and was about to have a reduction surgery done. A friend got me on to selenium (with enough iodine in the blood). That was about ten years ago and I now eat too much icecream (only one particular brand) and organic milk. I also experienced my hair going silky and stopped falling out. I had lots of skin cancers which were turning my skin to jelly and I was freaking about them too. The skin cancers dried up (they still appear) and I dig them out with my fingernails. I was in a bad state and started on 32-360 micrograms a day initially for a few months and then went down to about 200. I have made sure that I have high levels of zinc for decades. I am 68yo tomorrow 😊
Good to hear about tomatoes and lycopene, however, I reckon you'd need to eat around 10lb of cooked organic tomatoes per day to even hit a threshold of benefit. For example how much lycopene would we need in milligrams per day to have an effect?

Twenty three years ago I was diagnosed by my doctor with an enlarged prostate. Thankfully, his bedside manner was non existent and after he removed his finger, he told me that the only treatment he had was the knife. That cheered me up no end. He took a piece of paper and wrote down 'saw palmetto' and 'zinc'. He then told me to go to my health food store and get them as he could not prescribe them. I did this, the saw palmetto came in tablet form and after six weeks my prostate was perfect again. I continued with the zinc for a year and then forgot about it. Sure enough, my prostate enlarged again. Back to the health food store! All fixed again. I am now 79 and take zinc every day. No more problems. I tell every one I know that all men over the age of 40 should be on zinc. None of my close male friends have prostate problems, including my idiot son. One side effect of zinc is that it puts lead in your pencil! Don't believe me? try it!
Lead in your pencil? Not trying to be funny but I really don't know the expression or what it refers to. Also--same question--how much zinc in mg and what type.

It's tomatoes, cranberries, blueberries and pomegranates. To a certain extent even citrus fruits like lemons, limes, kiwifruit etc. They all help to alkanize the body system. Zinc of course - found in eggs, red meat, poultry, seafood etc. However too much tomato consumption could lead to oxalates. Moderation is the key. Of course add coffee, tea (whether black or green) in moderation.
I'm 62 and don't have a problem with an enlarged prostate, per se, but I've noticed sensitives when I drink coffee (caffeine) or eat certain foods. However, last month I started drinking a cup of unflavored Kefir (L. Reuteri) every day, along with a couple tablespoons of sauerkraut, and my gut health and bowel movements are even better. Dr. Berg, I know Kefir is a milk product, but please tell me it's not as bad as milk since it's fermented? I'm not a milk drinker, and I'm not wanting to give up my cup of Kefir or the real cheese I eat occasionally. Thanks.
Depends on the milk it's made from. US dairy cows are fed growth hormones to increase milk production but that's not allowed here in Canada. I drink a glass of 2X protein milk every day with a meal. I use kefir in smoothies and take a good probiotic every day. When I eat a low fibre meal I take some Meta Mucil after as I have a constricted bowel. Bonus is my cholesterol ratio is perfect so says my doc. Oat bran in the smoothies and sprinkled on cereal helps with that too. I'm 70 now.
My two cents at age 75 with enlarged prostate. 50 mg ZN. Tomatoes most every day. Keto diet. ED. I will start resverotol supplements now. Annual trip with endocrinologist. And psa 0.5. I also inject 200 units T twice a month. So far, no cancer from digit check. Is there a blood test for cancer?

You say that Lycopene may decrease the chance of enlargement by 21%. That's not the same as shrinking the prostate by 21%. Are there similar stats for Stinging Nettle Root and Saw Palmetto?
Dr. Berg, good video however, as with your other videos, I have several questions that keep this video from being the most helpful and what people need to know to ACTUALLY reduce the enlarged prostate: 1. please include the exact type of vitamin or mineral (chelated?), and 2. What is the dosage recommendations for example for the Zinc, the resveratrol and the lycopene (not everyone can stomach the acid in tomatoes--so what dosage of the lycopene should one take daily?). Should they be taken throughout the day? etc. 3. How much actual cooked tomato sauce w. olive oil should one get daily for the most effective result. Should this be done at one sitting? Thanks.
50mg zinc citrate, 321mg minimum of Saw Palmetto and I take a 10mg lycopene that has 100mg tomato concentrate too. Get some 2 or 3mg copper when taking zinc or they can be bought in combination. I don't take resveratrol so can't help you there.

as a keto freak i enjoy cheese which if of course dairy. Is it possible to offset cheese's unwanted compounds with tomato paste? Like when you eat whole apple where pulp contains basically fructose + water but the peel consists of( but don't quote me on that, i can mix things up) fiber where eaten pulp+peel comes to the gut, fiber "insulates" microbiom from excessive amounts of sugar.
It's the growth hormones the US dairy industry feeds their cows for more milk that is the problem. The fiber in the pulp of the apple slows sugar absorption and is a great prebiotic for the gut bacteria to feed on. Unless they are organic apples the skin needs good washing to remove spray residue or should be discarded. None of that crap in our Canadian milk.
You forgot to mention stinging nettle. Proven to be as effective as that medication in preventing the formation of DHT as that medication, without the side effects. With Zinc great for prostate health.
@thetawave2473 I don't make videos. I just comment on videos I can add too. Not just Dr Berg. Normally Dr Berg is diligent in mentioning Stinging Nettle when he talks about prostate health, Like when he mentioned carrots as a source of lycopene as well. I mention it because Stinging Nettle is often overlooked when seeking quick and lasting help to an enlarged prostate.
@user-yo8tw3fs8u most studies indicate the DHT forms crystals that block blood flow in small capillaries in and around the prostate and also hair follicles. The phytonutrients in Stinging Nettle do block the formation of DHT and also seem to dissolve the crystalline formations of DHT. That seems to be the reason Stinging Nettle brings relief so quickly, with no side effects. It is also recommended to add Zinc for good prostate health. There are some early studies indicating exposure to high amounts of artificial estrogen seem to also cause prostate enlargement. Since water supplies drawn downstream from Metropolitan areas where there is a large population putting artificial estrogen in waste water, and water treatment plants don't, or can't remove artificial estrogen from the water, if you are extra sensitive to estrogen, you might favor well water, or water not obtained from rivers.
@user-yo8tw3fs8u not familiar with it. Go ahead and use mine. Or Google for more info. Also, highly recommend the book This Is Your Brain On Birth Control by Sarag Hall to get more info on the environmental effects of artificial estrogen.
I’ve been avoiding tomatoes due to the sugar content to help improve my insulin resistance - is it a case of just moderate amounts then to get the benefit for my prostate vs reducing sugar?
My PSA score was too high, just a hair under the 'send him for a biopsy' line. My doctor was somewhat concerned. I reluctantly cut out ALL diary as an experiment, and my PSA score fell. Not by a lot, only 20%, but that was enough to convince my doctor that my prostate was fine. My need to pee at night disappeared too! Just as a precaution, I'll be getting my PSA checked again in a year's time. Today's dairy delivers FAR more estradiol and progesterone than it did twenty years ago. Dairy cows can now be milked during a pregnancy, and pregnancy drives hormones sky high in all female mammals (people too).

I heard about eating tomatoes and one day I cooked one whole tomato in olive oil. Results were amazing. No more weak pee flow or other pee related problem. I am relaxed and never saw my doctor again.

Probably every doctor is in the pocket of the pharmaceutical giants and get's a bonus for pill pushing.
There is an embolism procedure they can do to shrink it.

Prevention thru diet is a great practice, having your prostate and PSA level monitored starting at 45-50 is a must.
PSA has nothing to do with BPH.
@tomtai8165 That's a simplistic and simplifying statement that would be false most of the time and potentially dangerous.

Zinc of course - found in eggs, red meat, poultry, seafood etc.

Saw Palmetto and zinc.

That was my favorite part 😂

Is there anyway I can know the name if the medication that helps such case . My father is having a prostate inflammation and is affecting his life
Dr. Berg thank you so much for your helpful videos. You make it easy for your watchers to be educated.
Would you consider doing a video on “bioengineered ingredients”? Our jars of mayonnaise now state that on the label. I tried to find out what that means and they don’t make it easy. Obvious I’m not eating it until I know what’s in it.

@@Drberg @Drberg Hi Dr. Berg Can you recommend any supliment tablet for overall bladder and prostate health for men
Thank you for all the advice.I will try it all👍🏻
I switched to a carnivore diet and I have no problem with my prostate. I’m in my mid 50s and take zero meds. It was the best decision I’ve ever made regarding my health.
Whatever your diet is you should have your prostate checked on a regular basis at your age. No symptoms and all functions check good is not a guarantee that all is in order.
@@Cervin_Suisse Sure it is. And prostate exams are bullshit.
@@Cervin_Suisse Have you tried carnivore? If not, you have no authority to say that.
@TruthSeeker-rn1tm I don't need authority to make a comment. I did Keto by the book, dropped 40 pounds and reversed my Diabetes Type 2. I still eat low carb but in a less rigorous way. I feel great and don't see the need to try anything else. Anyway carnivore wouldn't be a choice I would make. I have nothing against those who chose this option, however there is not enough evidence it is harmless long term. No cave men and more recent ancestors never ate a 100% diet.
@TruthSeeker-rn1tm It is evidently you Sir who accaparate the authority to advance that a carnivore diet is protecting the prostate against cancer. I truly hope that easily influenced folks will not take your opinion for granted. It is a very dangerous advice you give here. :-((
We love you Dr. Question? What’s the best way to try to relax you lower intestine to the small, when having a crones flare without Morphine. Thanks. USMC/USAF Ret.
tomatos is all well and dandy dr berg you forgot to mention its a nightshade vegetable and it has to be peeled and de seeded
I take Zinc daily, but still need further assistance in the matter(!) And I get a high grade of EVOO. Is there a tomato sauce that is free of sugar AND lectins? That would be ideal. Not sure if I can find some; I'll look into Whole Foods, I guess.
ANSWER: Tomato's, preferably heated.
Dude…
Been on the tomato products daily for 2nd month. So far nothing. What's a realistic length of time to expect results?
Whoever reads this., I pray for you to cure all your diseases and to remove all your pains from your daily life.. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you very much for all your information. However, I have one question. Is Consumption of Cranberries good for the prostrate? Because I utilize Cranberries in my health Protein shakes, along with blueberries almost every day. Thank you for all your research! I have just discovered your videos due to my research for Carbonated water.
Cranberries are excellent for urinary tract health. Bladder health and prostate health go hand in hand.
You say that Lycopene may decrease the chance of enlargement by 21%. That's not the same as shrinking the prostate by 21%.
Are there similar stats for Stinging Nettle Root and Saw Palmetto?
What are you giving him an order? Go look yourself.
Dr. Berg, good video however, as with your other videos, I have several questions that keep this video from being the most helpful and what people need to know to ACTUALLY reduce the enlarged prostate:
1. please include the exact type of vitamin or mineral (chelated?), and
Tomato Paste👍🥁💃
That's great advice but i am following the Keto diet and also OMAD and as such have to eat lots of dairy for the high fat content. I do eat lots of tomatoes thought with lots of salad and vegetables vegetables. So Dr berge what do you recommend.
How about tomato Juice?
Hi! This article may be helpful:
www.drberg.com/blog/the-one-food-that-shrinks-an-enlarged-prostate
Yeah ! Just go ahead. Even famous Dr. Max Gerson recommended that !
Thanks for getting to the point.
No way am I giving up my raw milk, butter and cheese that I make. But I also can about 100 jars of salsa each year from my garden so I'm getting lots of tomatoes throughout the year.
I don't believe you have to give them up,only if you have a prostate problem.
@@JomoBlanchfield-fk7et I doubt his dairy has growth hormones in it which is the real problem but not here in Canada where it's not allowed nor are antibiotics in dairy cows. I consume lots of dairy with no problem to my enlarged prostate.
can you use butter to cook the tomato or only.oil makes the lycopene bio available?
I liked seeing the doc hold up a jar of home canned tomato sauce. Pure goodness in that jar!!
as a keto freak i enjoy cheese which if of course dairy.
Thanks‼This guy is so helpful!
You are very welcome.

So why as we age the enzyme is more active to conversion to DHT? Should we be targetting that reason for solution?
Eat healthy, exercise, take vitamin tabs, drink green tea and sleep well.. That's what I've done and just celebrated my 70th birthday lately. 😊
Happy Birthday ! 🎂
@plainjane-rb8ky: Given the picture, you´re a woman. That is probably 100% of the explanation, why you have no prostate problems.
So what? What’s that got to do with the subject?
@@rickbouthillier4394 People like Jane and consider her birthday worth celebrating, for you Rick not so much. 😵💫
@@rickbouthillier4394 😂💀
Does salsa and pico count? I would think so.
You forgot to mention stinging nettle. Proven to be as effective as that medication in preventing the formation of DHT as that medication, without the side effects. With Zinc great for prostate health.
He didn’t forget it. This video is about Lycopene. YOU forgot to make your video you want.
What about Dr. Gundry's work on nightshades and lectins being highly inflammatory?
Legendary doctor ❤
I appreciate your kind words.
Hello Dr, how many tomatoes per day is required to be consumed? Is it safe for Kidney if we make it part of normal daily diet? Kindly confirm....
Good to know! As always, thank you Dr. Berg for the information.
Glad I could assist.
I’ve been avoiding tomatoes due to the sugar content to help improve my insulin resistance - is it a case of just moderate amounts then to get the benefit for my prostate vs reducing sugar?
Try Lycopene in a supplement form rather than from tomatoes.
What about pumpkin seeds? It's known they are good for the prostate...
Thank you Dr Berg for sharing another great video. May God blessed you and your family!
Glad to know that you liked this post!
The fact that we get free videos on TH-cam by Doctor Berg is truly a gift; keeping the education and knowledge alive. 👏👏👏
