    I have been running Tri- drives for several years with no problem. Pretty handy in a muddy delivery too.

    • @taylor11089
      @taylor11089 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m a Big Fan of Tri-Drives. The More Brakes The Better! The More Tires in The Mud, The Better!
      What do Most States Give You Weight Wise on that Quint Trailer Setup? I know that A Lot of Oilfield Trailers run a Quint Style Setup on the Main Trailer. Some Times it’s just a 5 Axle Main Trailer Setup, or a 5+2 Booster Setup, or a 3+5+2 Jeep, Trailer & Booster Setup.
      Just, thought I’d say also, I was a Big Fan of Your Channel as well Joe!

    • @MrDirtywindow
      @MrDirtywindow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@taylor11089 well I have a 2021. Western Star 4900 Tri drive for sale. It’s a 600 DD-16 heavy 18 speed. 330” wheelbase. In answer to your question I do heavy haul under special permits. Most state will allow 20,000#s per axle.

    • @taylor11089
      @taylor11089 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrDirtywindow Joe is it Listed For-Sale on Truckpaper at all? I’m curious what it looks like and the Specs on it, such as Set Forward or Set Back Axle, Rear End Gear Ratio, ETC. In my Opinion, The Best Built Trucks are Kenworth & Western Stars. I’ve got some “Special/Unique Specs” that I have been “playing around with in my mind”, since that is all I think about is “doing things different, or doing them better for my advantage/situation”. That’s why I was always a Fan of your 4 & 5 Axle Flatbed Concept, especially in the “Trucking Markets” that you were using them in.
      I wasn’t sure what Most States would Permit you on a Quint, don’t have Any Experience (yet) with a “5 in a Row” Quint Axle Setup. I wasn’t sure if Most Every State would give you #100,000, Permitted of Course. The reason that I ask is because I know that Some States such as Pennsylvania & Texas will only give you #72,000 on a Quad Axle Setup. I live in IL, just across the River from St. Louis MO. IL will give #25,000 a Axle (#100,000 on a Quad), No Problem. MO will give #22,000 depending on the Setup. But you know all of this.

    Wow, that Pete is fully equpied with all the bells and whistles. All shined up and clean. Ready for a truck show it seem. Heavy duty pete, great set up and the Rear 3 axles looks spaced out even the weight it look like. I like the tool box behind the sleeper. Look very different from the other headache rack tool box that many have. Well, I'm not an high expert on the truck but its a indeed a work horse and it will get any job done. And can't for get the 5 axle flatbed trailer.

    • @awd4g63ix

      A lot you said in the video of the Pete, their is a lot of thought on what to put in to the truck. It can take like few months before you can get the idea ball rolling before it can be built. Once its built it like your master piece coming to life.

    Has got to be strange leaving someone else drive your baby, even Nick who is a pro. I'll say one thing, is a beautiful truck set up to haul just about everything. I know up in Canada and some parts of Michigan they can run 9 axle trailers legally, I see logging trucks and chip vans are all 9 axle trailers. As it is, Ken has a crap load of tires to keep working on that thing, not to mention feeding a 500 hp motor
    Thanks for the video Nick, and thanks to Ken for sharing his truck with us!

    I liked he got a three view camera system. What maker and model(s) of camera system is it and does it ? As it was pretty brief view and could not tell if it was Falcon Electronics and no mention it records for in case of accident/incident. As I told you under my other sn/un, you should invest in a multi-camera system, especially one with a recording system even if you have to make a phone call to retrieve said footage, unless you makeshift your own recording system.
    Lenny is smart to spec out his truck the way he did with camera system even if aftermarket. Mount that rear camera high for best view so as not to be obstructed by the equipment/tool box.

    here just about all trucks sold are custom ordered. a part from a few demo trucks sold. dealers dont have new trucks ready to be sold. few years back it could take a year from order to delivery. 3-6 months are normal now.
    hope they atert to offer 20.000 air ride front axles over there soon. steel ride for over the road use is really outdatet hehe.
    but thats a really beatiful truck :) must be some parts of Canada then?. sergei runs a lift axle on his Mack and think he can max it out.

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk about 20k air ride axles, but my last truck had an air ride front axle...it was pretty nice.
      Sergi runs in eastern canada. That province is basically the United States with weird signs. The western provinces, where a majority of the mining industry is, is where you run into problems with the lift axles.

    If lift axles are not legal in Canada, HOW COME Sergi Dratchev "Heavy haul TV" has been using a Mack with 2nd axle being a lift axle, 3 & 4 powered, has no problems hauling a Fontaine low boy (Float) hauling construction equipment between US and Canada.. ? The Mack was bought in Canada, but delivery was at Mack factory in USA..

  • @cmusic52
    @cmusic52 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    its gotta be funny on some of those deliveries, cause you really notice the disconnect between the person that wrote the check and the person that has to get it off the trailer... they load it soo quick n easy they already have the big equipment at the port or the factory of the item, but the delivery? they just tryin to use what they got and hope it'll lift it, and if it don't? welp, u might have to hang tight while we call around

    • @jonrochefort8427
      @jonrochefort8427 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What other motor would he get ? Cummins is the only 15 liter motor you can get in a peterbilt since cat quit in 2011. He said 600 hp so that would be 2050 torq. Detroit is frightliner and western Star only . The only other motor you can get in peterbilt is the paccar oem mx13 , which is a 13 liter motor 505 hp and 1850 torque is the max out of that.

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon pretty much nailed that response. When you're not building a glider, you only have a couple options. Also, that Cummins is a beast. Don't let the forums fool you, it's a hell of a working motor.

    Nick, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts in more depth on the camera system. I have a theory that we'll eventually find getting views not possible with mirrors to be superior. The camera has a much better field of view. Is his right side camera set up to be useful for blindside backing? Since you own your trailers, it would be interesting to know the usefulness of putting a wireless camera at the back, at least for backing in tight quarters.

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest with you, I never looked at that camera system. It was interesting to have up there, but I'm so used to working with mirrors, that I forgot the cameras were even there. I can see some instances where it may be beneficial to have wireless cameras on the trailer, but at the end of the day, nothing goes further than teaching someone how to drive well, without technology.

    Nick, how does he lock the axles, air or electric? And, can each be locked individually or did all three lock and unlock simultaneously?
    THANK you

      They're air locked, and they can all 3 be locked independently of each other.

      Dr. Mark in Texas Thanks for the reply. I can't imagine with chains on locked 3 axles 😀 WOW.

    What's your criteria on when to shell out the cash for a new truck? In my family, it's usually when monthly repair costs = payment, the old one goes away.

    do you know what the spacings are on the Tri drive, they kinda looked bigger than normal? Which if they are i assume that way he can get the extra weight while in CAN.

    • @wbball15
      @wbball15 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grant Eberly, Looked like 60" spacing versus 49".

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I think they're like 55" spacings, so yeah, larger than normal, but not quite the 60's.

    how many years of flatbed experience does landstar require to lease on to them?

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lanstar, I think, requires 1 year of verifiable OTR experience. Your best bet would be to contact a recruiter though. Their requirements may have changed. It was different when I signed on.

    Nick, I am a retired Navy man, just getting into trucking. Got my CDL 6 weeks ago and going to work for 1st company next week. Do you mainly do Flat bed, oversized and overweight loads? Is that alot better money, and something you recommend getting into eventually? I use to own my own Mobile Home transport & tie down company. So am familiar with over sized, weight and length permit pulling and I have my Pilot Escort Lisc. Just about to go drive for my first company though, so trying to figure out what Lane I want to go. Thanks. Wild Bill

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would absolutely recommend it, if you can. You obviously will have to do some time under normal freight, but it never hurts to have future goals. Of course with the higher operating costs of doing this stuff, we demand higher rates. I won't get into how much higher, but trust me, it's worth it if you're smart ;)

      michael newcomb you mean weight wise? Hell yes. You'd be overweight on your drives.

      He modified 3 trailer toolboxes and had it mounted at a shop near him. You're looking at a traditional inbetween the spread flatbed box, turned sideways.

    Nick did you order your truck or was it a stock truck? I was watching one of your old videos & couldn't believe you've got a 12k or 13,200 front end. Are you considering spec'ing one in the future? 20k front with a 20k lift & 46k rears with lockers and 3.91's would really be ideal for a good all around heavy haul truck

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a stock truck. Really, even the 13,200lbs axle is over kill. We simply can't transfer weight that far forward with our long wheelbase. 20k would just be a waste of money for us. We don't have any plans to build / buy a new truck anytime soon. This one has plenty of life left in it, and works like a champ!

      I actually love it. Might consider something like that on The Battleship, but ours would take some work. We'd have to get smaller fuel tanks to make a setup like that work.

    So do you, the company, own the specialized trailers or is it a collective coop where everyone thats involved threw in some money to buy the trailers? I almost asked if Landstar owned the trailers but then I realized that would be silly of them to buy all that heavy haul equipment

    • @awd4g63ix
      @awd4g63ix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Donovan (has a youtube channel) is the one who owns all the trailers you'll see us pull...for now. He knows he'll never get the 4 axle Ravens back from us without a fight ;)
