  • I had to check this video out, being one of my mums favourite songs.. made sense to watch the video. She brought me up on Elvis!! So this was a given.
    'Elvis Presley "An American Trilogy" from Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973
    Elvis Presley made television and entertainment history with his Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii concert, performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena on January 14, 1973. It was beamed live via Globecam Satellite to various countries, on a delayed basis to approximately thirty European countries and it first aired in America that April 4th on NBC in edited form. The American broadcast version included four "insert" songs that were shot just after the concert. In all, the concert was seen in over forty countries by close to 1.5 billion people, a global ratings smash. Never before had one performer held the world's attention in such a way. Aloha from Hawaii presents Elvis Presley at the pinnacle of his superstardom, giving one of the most outstanding concert performances of his career.'

My sister and I would play him on the stereo singing along with him and Dad would join in too on occasion, 'course none of us could sing tho but we enjoyed doing it. lol I'm a bit older than you, but I still love him and will always love him. Thank you for your reaction to Elvis (Jan. 8, 1935-Aug. 16, 1977).
    Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory.
    Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off.
    As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (th-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/w-d-xo.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

    You want to know who on your channel is an Elvis fan? Well you got one here who actually got to see him 4 times live in concert from 1969-1977. My family and I also flew to Memphis, TN to see Elvis lying in his coffin the day after he passed. I have ALL of his albums and singles, movies, TV specials and some of his TV appearances from the 1950s and 1960s. I also used to imitate Elvis in my aunts' dancing school revues from 1974-1979 as my dancing solos in which my mom who used to make Mardi Gras costumes made exact replicas of his jumpsuits in which I would wear on stage. If you want to know anything about "the King", just g drop me a note. I'll try to answer as soon as I can, and as accurately as I can.

I've been an Elvis fan since my Dad took me to an Elvis movie in another town 62 years ago. I fell asleep as 4 y/o do and my Dad paid for us to watch it again. When he died in Aug 1977 it was like a death in our family. We all sat in silence, tears and disbelief and watched all 3 TV channels (that's all there was back then) as it was about Elvis life. It was very sad. To say he was adored is an understatement. 🇺🇸

    • @PAN-jo2go
      @PAN-jo2go 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@warrendelay On a tour of Graceland, the jumpsuits are displayed in a section of the music room and the tour guides tell visitors they are made of polyester with a stretchable wool/mixed-blend gabardine fabric. This was viewed on a program called the Daily Tour of Graceland which was filmed back in the 1990s which I don’t believe is available any longer on public or private media sources. The jumpsuits which were easy to don so polyester and a stretchable wool/mixed-blend gabardine fabric which is a strong, durable, and easy-to-care-for fiber combined with the polyester is often used in clothing and home textiles was the choice of that decade and time period. In the 1970s, this fabric was made into clothing that is a cheaper more durable substance that I mentioned earlier. It has a longer life than materials totally made of cotton that are able to breathe more than polyester/wool mix. I grew up in the 70s and wore polyester shirts as a kid. I hated them but they were more affordable than expensive cotton and other blend material. Polyester is easy to care for and only needs to be dry cleaned which extends the life of the material where cotton breaks down over time and cleanings. The downfall of the polyester/wool product is that it locks in body heat and the person’s perspiration is locked inside causing massive sweating as you see Elvis do in these public appearances during his concerts. It doesn’t help that the stage and house lights create more heat directed at him as well. In the 1970s, Elvis was constantly on tour and needed an outfit that was one, patriotic and two, was durable that would last and was easy to clean. After every concert Elvis was physically spent because of dehydration and took him days to recover until he had a closeted deal with the Gatorade company that he got at a reduced price and that generated concert benefits to employees of Gatorade. Like ice skaters' costumes, the suits generally were made of this polyester stretchable wool/mixed-blend gabardine fabric as well, and most feature the "Napoleonic" raised collars and pointed cuffs that were a Belew/Elvis trademark. Since the suits were mostly made of wool and polyester which locked the body heat inside causing his seating, again mentioned earlier. This combined material was a heavy suit often weighing 40 pounds which wore him down physically as he aged. I hope this explains where the idea for the suits came from and why they were used.

    Elvis made a lot of good movies. A lot of people don't like or won't watch his movies because there is no sex, nudity, swearing in his movies. Everybody now days lives for the sex, nudity, swearing in movies which experts have said there is no reason for any of that stuff in any movie that has been or is being made. Also, experts in analyzing music say, Elvis is one rare person that his voice can't be auto-tuned, it would not sound as good.

    • @Code9
      @Code9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The vast majority of his movies were crap and Elvis hated doing them. He wanted to be a serious non-singing actor with dramatic roles, realistic plots and decent scripts. But his despicable manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker (not a real "colonel", not even his real name and an illegal alien to boot) locked Elvis into 16 different film contracts and Elvis had to do them until the contracts were fulfilled. Elvis had one favorite out of all the movies he made. That one was "King Creole". Most of the other films he couldn't stand and the one he disdained the most was an insipid throw-away called "Clambake". ••• And about his voice "can't be auto-tuned" because "it would not sound as good", that's nonsense... sort of. For one thing, there was no such thing as "auto-tune" when Elvis was recording or performing live. You are right, though, that auto-tuning Elvis would be a disaster, at least to those of us who are true fans of his spectacular voice; not only his post-Army voice but also his pre-Army voice. The two eras of his vocal capabilities are quite distinct from one another but each is remarkable in it's own way and for different reasons. Auto-tuning makes every singer's voice sound like something produced by a machine. It lacks the human element and has no soul. Elvis' voice, on the other hand, was the real deal as were all the other singers back in the day. I mean seriously, can you imagine auto-tuning any of the great "real" artists from the pre-auto-tune era? Chuck Berry? Buddy Holly? Roy Orbison? Tina Turner? James Brown? Ray Charles? Ella Fitzgerald? Dolly Parton? LOL! They'd all sound like cartoons which is what most of today's auto-tuned singers sound like, in my humble opinion.

    New subscriber.. A little background regarding the ramp from the stage: Producer/director Marty Pasetta told Parker (E's manager) he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no; Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to (Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis); Parker said no; fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Paseta told Elvis he wanted him to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Imagine how different that concert would have been if Elvis didn't have the option to get in close contact w-his audience. HE would have been just as spectacular, but without the ramp the concert would have had a very different feel. Trilogy: a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie are the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s. To get a feel for Elvis the person see a rehearsal youtu.be/watch?v=TJhN8oidF9k&t=1s . Thank you.

    I love Elvis. There is so much material on the platform. If you react to "Suspicious Minds", I recommend the 1970 Vegas performance. The version from this show is good but the 70 version - given that it's still new to Elvis, is at a whole different level. All his music is terrific, but I'd say my favorite Elvis period is from 1968 to 1973: from the Comeback Special, the start of his Vegas residency, Elvis On Tour, and this show in Honolulu.

    Hello dear
    I too grew with Elvis|My mother saw him with my aunt in concert in 1956 at 13. Well this was 1 yr before I came to be. He became my cross to bear...due to fact he kissed her on cheek which sealed my fate! She tried to turn me into Elvis! No I'm not a copycat because no one can be Elvis, because he was on loan from God! Over my years yes I love the King.

    This song is actually a tribute to the American Civil War! The 1st song is The Confederacy's Battle Hymn or Dixie, the 2nd song is the Northern Battle Hymn or the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and then the last section is Baby Don't You Cry or the death of the soldier! And, there you have it...THE AMERICAN TRILOGY!!! ❤ 😢 ❤ 😢 ❤ 😢 ❤ 😢 ❤ I loved your reaction! Thank You!!!
