Timeless performance! To your point, 1973 no ear piece, no autotune, Elvis is controlling his own fades both in and out with his superb mic control, displaying his unbelievable pitch. All while performing live with a full band, 2 backup groups and a orchestra. Great reaction! 🔥
The thing that keeps hitting me is just how much he feels the music. That "death glare" was a direct response to the bass horns hitting their bottom pitches. AND ....... at the end, I am in awe of just how much power must have been coming from him to be clearly heard above the (as you say) full band, 2 backup groups and orchestra with the mic that far away from his mouth, and he STILL comes through so powerfully. The man is a true legend and can NEVER be imitated. RIP Elvis!

Lived my whole life in Louisiana and grew up as a kid in the 70’s under parents crazy about Elvis. James Burton who played guitar for Elvis for many years is from and still lives in the town right next to where I live. I was only 8 when Elvis died so never saw him live but I’ve seen his old guitarist James play Elvis stuff many times here in clubs around town and he’s amazing. This was always my most fav Elvis song but being raised southern myself, it resonates. Everyone in the south knows what he’s saying with these lyrics. He always had a perfect voice for songs that sounded like or were gospel hymns. I’m 53 and started learning guitar two years ago. Suspicious Minds was the second song I learned. As others have said, this was the rehearsal show .... they watched the taping of this show, which was really just to get the camera angles, lighting and sound double checked, and Elvis decided to get his haircut. The show went out live to 36 Countries in the far east, but not to the USA as it was the day of Super Bowl VII. It was finally shown weeks later on NBC, on 4/4/1973, and was NBC's highest rated show of the year. The double-album of the show topped the Billboard 100, went Gold in 3 weeks and has since been certified 5X Platinum ....
Should be 10× Platinum as it is a double album, sold as a double album. But the RIAA says because of pricing and/ or running time it only counts as a single album. They did this to at least 2 other Elvis double albums. Just another way to try and keep his total sales low.

He was called the King for a reason. No one compares. He opened the door for more black performers & was a generous man. If you have not heard him do 'In the Ghetto', watch it. Powerful song with a totally different vibe. In those days, you could sing or you couldn't. No fancy technology helping anything. His voice was amazing & the world lost an amazing talent, far too soon. ~ I love how he always put the Karate moves in his performances. He started it when he was in the Army & continued throughout his entire life. He was a blackbelt & took it very seriously. My brother was in the air force & was stationed in Hawaii during the Vietnam war & got to see Elvis live for his Hawaii concert. 1973 maybe? I was sooooooo jealous.
Beautiful song creation, an ode to the American Civil War, and the struggle and sacrifice associated with that horrible conflict. This masterpiece balances it's dedication to both the Northern Union and to the Southern Confederacy. It incorporates extracts from three important pieces of music : The Battle Hymn of the Union, The Battle Hymn of the Confederacy (Dixie), and the beautiful Joan Baez classic "All My Trials." In doing so, the song pays poignant and heartfelt tribute to the vast numbers of Americans - fathers, husbands, brothers, sons - who marched off to war, never to return, bravely and willingly giving their lives for the freedoms and the way of life they held so dear, in this most costly of all American conflicts on record ( interesting fact : more Americans died in the Civil War than in WWI, WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War - all combined !! ) This was Elvis at his best, tipping his artistic hat to an important and lasting part of American history
Yes, and in fact, it was originally from the Bahamas. That's why it is called American Trilogy and it looks at all three facets of Civil War era and it is just so masterful!
Yours is the first I noticed that addressed what this was about and then some others added some additional details/clarifications. To be honest, when I first was introduced to this I thought what the heck is going on with this. But with further listening and internet reading I learned what it all was about and I gained a real respect and appreciation for it. I just can’t imagine anyone but Elvis having the gravitas and vocal capability to sing it. I think it is an amazing piece and belongs in what is referred to as The American Songbook.
A surely love your reactions to the King,!! Definitely see the movie Elvis. Saw it 3 times. Reaction to some of his gospel which helped the most. How Great Thou Art
You guys had a number of great observations: 1. the quality of his voice and the music was amazing; hard to believe it was roughly 50 years ago. 2. Being that Elvis was so different, it was brilliant by those who saw his ability, although he was rejected early on on several occasions to include the Grand Ole Opry.

The flute gets me every time!
Beautiful song creation, an ode to the American Civil War, and the struggle and sacrifice associated with that horrible conflict.
This masterpiece balances it's dedication to both the Northern Union and to the Southern
Confederacy. It incorporates extracts from three important pieces of music : The Battle Hymn of the Union, The Battle Hymn of the Confederacy (Dixie), and the beautiful Joan Baez classic "All My Trials." In doing so, the song pays poignant and heartfelt tribute to the vast numbers of Americans - fathers, husbands, brothers, sons - who marched off to war, never to return, bravely and willingly giving their lives for the freedoms and the way of life they held so dear, in this most costly of all American conflicts on record
( interesting fact : more Americans died in the Civil War than in WWI, WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War - all combined !! )
This was Elvis at his best, tipping his artistic hat to an important and lasting part of American history
All My Trials (Hush little Baby) was an old Negro spiritual/ lullabye....used to represent the Negroes in this Civil War montage...
Yes, and in fact, it was originally from the Bahamas. That's why it is called American Trilogy and it looks at all three facets of Civil War era and it is just so masterful!
@@cindyk.6462 correct! Thanks for adding that!
Epic song and performance!
Epic, timeless performance, I still get goosebumps and emotional watching him perform. The best.
there's a reason the King is the King !
Kentucky Rain & Bridge Over Troubled Water( live in Vegas)☮️💜
You guys had a number of great observations: 1. the quality of his voice and the music was amazing; hard to believe it was roughly 50 years ago. 2. Being that Elvis was so different, it was brilliant by those who saw his ability, although he was rejected early on on several occasions to include the Grand Ole Opry.
This is the alternate Aloha concert (rehearsal on Jan 12th, 1973) prior to the actual one on Jan 14th. You NEED to watch/react the that one. It’s a step up from this one, both musically and vocally.
This song is just epic
Perfect comment. His voice was breathtaking. Vicki
Great reactions guys. Love love love it. 💕💕💕💕
His microphone technique is so on point.
Wow Elvis gave me goosebumps.
