This is nothing new. It's happened to me a few times over the last few years. I will stand there with the food in my hand until the customer calls doordash and cancels the order, and tell the manager of the restaurant to ring the order up and make the customer pay at the register. I witnessed this happening at Taco Bell a couple of weeks ago. The young man just started dashing and had no idea what to do. I coached him through the process. Taco Bell orders get assigned within a couple of minutes of the order being placed, so the customer (scammer) had to have ordered the food from the parking lot. I could tell that she was pissed at me for telling the young driver what to do, but there were too many witnesses around for her to really say anything. Remember folks, unassigning is not the answer. Either make the customer cancel the order (and DO NOT GIVE THEM THE FOOD-GIVE IT BACK TO THE RESTAURANT AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED) and/or call customer service and let them handle the situation.

If you need extra things you need to put that on the order for the *restaurant* so they have it packed. If the driver investigates the order, they can see the delivery instructions before leaving, but I'm generally not looking at that. This one time I dropped off a McDonald's order around midnight. When I pulled up to the customer's house I saw another car parking nearby. Happens all the time I didn't think anything about. But when I put the customers order on the porch and took a picture and walked away they immediately jumped out of the car, ran up on the porch and grabbed the order and ran around the back of the house while the car sped off.
When you first get and order you can click on the map and see exactly where the order will be dropped off after the order has been picked up. I'm guessing they got the offer and checked where it was being dropped off and then met me there.
When the guy grabbed the order and ran off he said "thank you!" I thought it was strange but again similar things like that has happened before. Then the customer texted me saying where's my food and I immediately got ahold of support lol.
There's just too many dishonest people and it makes things more difficult for the rest of us.

I would need to confirm that I got the order before the dasher app would give me directions for where to drop it off. Also this whole scam the video is about would be ixnay if doordash would require payment from the customer before the restaurant would be given the order in the first place, and they could change their policy that after the dasher clicks the link that they arrived at the restaurant, it would be too late for them to cancel for a refund, except for problems with the restaurant such as being out of certain items or taking way too long.

I think the only other option would be to tell the customer that they need to be the one to cancel the order. That way they're still charged because you've already picked it up, and then you can hand it to the scammer without losing anything on your end. Yesterday I had this happen to me, and the caller ID even showed "DoorDash"
Doordashers (TLDR scroll down): so I was delivering with DD yesterday, and received a call about a customer complaining that I was intoxicated (I don't drink X/don't do drugs). Then they said they'll send a deputy, or answer a few questions. So I answered the questions and they said I was not intoxicated. However, before I mentioned anything, they said I would have to cancel the order to KFC (so they knew the restaurant I was picking up from, and could see all of my previous deliveries). So they say they that someone else is speaking to the customer and they will be blocked from being able to order from DD again. They even cancelled my current order themselves. They also said Uber is merging with DD in 4 months, so they sent me an email verification number from Uber, and "needed to verify my Dasher Direct information" so I can receive a $150 bonus which they send to drivers who are falsely accused.
TLDR: DoorDash hackers are claiming drivers are being accused of intoxication, then trying to send $150 if you're not intoxicated, to get to your account information and debit information. Somehow they know your delivery history and basically everything on your screen.

Yep, happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I got to the restaurant and they said the order had already been picked up. The customer had to have gotten there before me because I did not have my bag with me and the restaurant employee said it was picked up 5 minutes prior! Then when I got to my very next pick up location the employee there said that he never got an order sent in😳. I’m confused. They order thru DoorDash, first? Then have someone pick it up? Don’t they still have to pay for it? Why go thru that? This is so bizarre.
    I hate scammers.
I order thru DoorDash all the time, and I make it a POINT to tip the hell out of my driver! I don’t care what I’m ordering, I make sure my driver gets a bare minimum of $10 (if it’s just a few drinks from Starbucks), but always order with something else, so they can get twice the tip.
I rarely tip less than $15. Even if it means I’m paying more than 20%. That’s because I live 10 miles out of town, and make SURE it’s worth it to them.
I figure, if it takes an hour (it never does), at the very LEAST, they’re getting $15.
Once, my driver had to go WAY out of his way to pick up my food, and I wasn’t aware of it ahead of time. Initially, I paid him a $25 tip. But when I realized the distance, I added $10 for gas.
I truly appreciate my drivers, because on lazy days, I don’t have to cook, or leave the house.

This is good information. I typically don’t mark the order “picked up” until I’m in my car anyway.
    People are crazy.

I don't deal anything with customer directly! Tell them to call Customer Service and make changes. I delivered to where it said on the App! I never carry DD bag into the store!

I always thought to myself a good scam would be to order food for delivery and then just go pick it up yourself. Then there’s all the duckery that happens when an order disappears. Get it for free and you don’t need to do anything. Or make the delivery address super far away with no tip. An order that no one in their right mind would accept. Then just go pick it up yourself. You would think it’s a bad idea because you need to drive 20 miles to go get the food. Nope. All they would need to do is order from a restaurant right up the street and have the delivery address to some random address 20 miles away. Then when it is prepared they have the name and can just go get it.

Always contact support if something weird happens. That way at least there is a paper trail that there was an out of the ordinary situation which will help you look innocent if something gets flagged and you get in trouble.

Ive heard dashers pretending to be the owner of the order, picking it up, then canceling the order on their end so they get to keep and eat the food. I have only done 30 dashes and ran into this twice already

Those delivery services need to be strictly regulated . Tips need to go, VAT needs to be introduced by congress.

Same thing happened to me 😮 but I didn’t confirm pick up I just had DoorDash cancel it
It was at McDonald’s he was in the drive thru walked up saying my name I’m like who u 😂and he said his name and I gave him the order. I DEF thought it was a new trend cuz who does that?? I thought maybe he was waiting and got fed up and went for pick up, but this makes more sense. Seems like it’s always males……smh &Thank U!

Nah they want the food for free. If the order gets cancelled but you hand them the food they’re not paying anything dont hand it over.

We also got to talk about the DoorDash drivers that are scamming people. I live in a very rural area. The drivers have GPS, and there is just no way to not know the apartment complex that I live in. And we had one woman that would lie and say that she can’t find the place. She would put the food down by some random person‘s house take a picture like she delivered it and then take the food home And eat it herself. Then people like me have to go through the whole ordeal of trying to get our money back and we’re at home with no freaking food.

Anytime there is an issue with an order of any kind, I call support. So, guess what? I would have had him stand right there while I got support on the phone. And he can talk to them. I'm tired of these people. I take pictures with an app that is time stamped and it shows the address and them holding the food when I deliver it if it's a hand-it-to-me-order. This way I always have proof.

There is this one driver that does a lot of shitty stuff every time she picks up my order. The first order was a $60 order and she drives down the street and then as she turns onto the highway she canceled the order. While she is supposed to be driving to my house. And she keeps my food and my order is just canceled. The second time she did it was $100 food order and just as she got in her car after picking it up she pushes the delivery button. Saying that it was already delivered within one minute when I live about four minutes away.

Thank you for posting this! I'm relatively new to DD, so now I'm watching videos about DD. Man - people will try to figure out any way they can to steal! Yes prices are high but there are tons of jobs out there! Work like the rest of us! I don't understand how people can do this and not feel bad.
