Having grown up watching these beautiful birds grace the skies of Melbourne it's a pleasure to get to see footage like this. Thank you so much for uploading.
I was fortunate enough to fly QF SYD - HNL - SYD on the 747 one last time just before they were retired. Beautiful experience and I think the shakes and rattles etc just added to the romantic Queen of the Skies experience.
The 747 used a lot of runway . That was the worlds longest flight for some time in the 90’s & early 2000’s. Now Qantas use mainly B787’s & even old Airbus A330-200’s. Watching a 787 it just does not need a lot of runway anymore.
Not as much runway as the Emirates Airbus 340 did when the crew failed to include the fuel in the weight for the take off performance calculations on the same runway. They left tracks in the grass at the far end as well as hitting a few lights.
I had flown Mel-Sydney per Ansett in it’s final days. Ansett was the domestic provider so was surprised that the return flight was by 747 which I never travelled in before. The guy at the desk said Ansett had 4 747s. So my flight was the final leg of an international flight or it was a balancing move to transfer a 747 to Melbourne for some reason. It was roughly half full.
Interesting video! I think I hear the TOGA button selected at 4:41 but is seems to be a second or two before the throttles move forward. I would have expected that TOGA would result in an immediate throttle up? Thanks!
I may be wrong, but... I think the comments about the poor video quality are not so much about the head-mounted Go Pro. I believe they're referring to the ultra-reflective sun light making it impossible to see anything due to the brightness. It may also be when the outside view is blocked by the windscreen reinforcement beam during runway line-up. It blocks any outside view. But I still enjoyed it.
@@TWCobraThats actually really cool, being able to see almost exactly what you saw. The view from your GoPro seems a bit high, you can barely see the top of the EICAS, surely the height difference between your eyes and the camera isn’t that significant?
All pilots on the flight deck need to confirm that the takeoff clearance has been issued and acknowledged to ATC. Same happens for the Landing clearance at the end of the flight.
@@user-wl6bw3jl4n I should mention that it was a four pilot crew and only the three pilots who did not make the radio acknowledgment need to confirm the clearance.

Glad you enjoyed it Zac
That’s exactly what you would like to see in the cockpit. A clean well maintained cockpit and a fit experienced, alert and enthusiastic crew.
Quality! Love this sort of raw content from the Queen of the Skies - would be great to see some more :)
As a matter of fact I do! Will upload some when I can.

Anymore content would be great so I can live vicariously through them haha. Pretty awesome to watch.
Amazing! There is a nice ice cream van located at a landing spot North of Melb airport. Great view watching them land
Amazing pov
Beautiful .... do you have any more ?
RIP Qantas 747

Yes, they were lucky and so was Melbourne airport. The Capt and Fo were sacked on return to Dubai.
That I don’t agree with.
Nothing better than the Spirit of Australia
A good 10 seconds from V1 to Vr. That must be a little nerve wracking.
Not really. The 747 was a dream to fly. Thank you for the comment .
Beautiful
Amazing.

This is awesome
What a machine
That is because I was wearing a Go Pro on my head.
Not ideal
@@a95569 It wasn’t a problem.
This is/was the ER yes?
Skip have you seen the meta sunglasses. They can film POV

Yes, this is normal. Same in a go around.
Vr 180 kts :D wow

I’m gonna be a pilot for Qantas when I grow up ❤
Nice watching 10 min jhold
Absolutely love this being an aviation nerd and from Melbourne. Is this your footage?
Yes it is. Retired now though.
@@TWCobra Must’ve really been something flying the 747, enjoy your retirement!
@@symol30872 it was a great way to finish my career. I had flown the -400 as a FO. This was the icing on the cake though.
Jeez 2018 life was good petrol was cheap
Why do we have to switch off electronics and cameras while pilots are allowed to do the same?
Half the video was of the boys holding short.
Welcome to the world of airline flying…
Wasn't much runway remaining. Presume after V1 there's no stopping.
Miss flying on the 747 new ones aren’t as tough as they were
I've never had a problem with the dash 8 vs the 400's. Not sure what tough is supposed to mean.
@@TB-um1xz That doors and such don’t fall off after take off. You know, tough as in heavy duty.
They could have easily made the runway an extra 1000 metres in a country the size of Australia
I wonder where old mate Capt Dave Collier is these days ?
Pas une bonne idée la camera sur la tête.
packs are off.. must be heavy.. let’s watch the take off roll
Packs are always on. Only time I've done a pack off was in Delhi and it was hot and we were very heavy.
VH-OEE she got scrapped in Mojave
Glad you have skills flying a plane because your camera skills are in the toilet.
He's wearing the camera on his head you mook.
As is your intelligence...Flush!
At last! an F/O who knows how to properly move the gear handle.
REALLY, what the hell was I watching?
Lot of jerks. The camera was never steady
It's a Go Pro camera
That’s because it is a point-of-view video. The Go-Pro was being worn on my head. You are seeing what I saw.
Christ take it up with the Union

04:33 “confirmed confirmed confirmed” - what is the significance of that call?
All pilots on the flight deck need to confirm that the takeoff clearance has been issued and acknowledged to ATC. Same happens for the Landing clearance at the end of the flight.

@@TWCobra Thank you Mike. Out of curiosity, is this call also made with a two pilot crew compliment or only with supernumerary crew onboard?
@@user-wl6bw3jl4n it’s a cross check to confirm an important clearance so all pilots on the flight deck will confirm it.
These POV videos are too hard to watch. Way too much "looking around" make them dizzying.
Most viewers had no issues. Actually appreciated this rare insight. Perhaps go stare at clouds, maybe a little more your pace!
No, it's not too hard to watch.
This is what we want, idk what you're talking about.
I’m guessing the part that says “ POV “ gone way over your head huh 🤔
