Especially the part about how to make something hard-surface (the way you played around with the Mean-crease), which even our school didn't add in! Dude I swear that 6 hours ago. I was having a problem with a model I made and I was afraid to subsurface divide it because I didn’t want to lose what I created to smoothness. I watched hundreds of videos went to forms. Then randomly watched this video because I wanted to learn how to make helmets. Then boom at 29:50 you solved my problem from earlier😂. Your doing gods work my friend thank you 🙏🏾
I went from looking at Blender's interface with a dull sense of dread to making part of the Paladin Artifact shield in 35 minutes and 37 seconds. This guide was just incredible. Take my kudos, my thanks and my firstborn.

i hwo a doubt though... maybe some of you guys could help me... In the end, of the video, the model has mass.. it's solid, not a plane.. how do u do that? Since saving a mere plane in stl wont give good results =/
Gon Garcia 26:50 He just extruded the border edges at this point but you have to keep extruding to the inside to model thickness using the same techniques he showed before.

I used Blender when I was studying my diploma almost 6 years ago now. I actually majored in VFX instead of 3D during my bachelor's degree, but watching you 3D model has really made me want to go back into it! Thank you so much for inspiring me! :D
This is a fantastic tutorial, you managed to cover so much in 35 minutes but did it in a way that makes it easy to understand and follow. I found blender to be difficult to understand as the user interface was a lot to get my head around but now I feel I know enough to start modelling. Thanks Benni !!
All nice, but I highly recommend to use some (free) addons to save a lot of time. * F2 Addon for filling the faces * Fast Carve addon (not just because it's from me:-)) for the hard edges and boolean operations. * Before adding the mean crease, go ahead and use the option to select just the sharp edges (Select sharp edges) Anyway, great result, also for the printed parts.

honestly man you should start a series or channel dedicated to the more tech-y side of cosplay. Your Photoshop Tutorial was great, and this video is amazing and super useful. Most people focus on the whole sewing, foam crafts, painting, wigs side of things but this kind of information is super helpful
You forgot about Shift+[z/x/y] in Move/Rotate/Scale tools. If you want to move on a plane, not axis, you shift press it. G -> Shift+z to move on a horizontal plane. And to get rid of a vertices, you can dissolve them. X->Dissolve Vertices. And you can just drag images in.
this is EXACTLY what i needed to start using blender. Short, informative, straight to the point, basic use and most importantly the key shortcuts. TYSM!
I've nearly made a whole set of armour for 3D printing using the example in the video You done a really gold job getting across how to 3D model. It's opened so many doors for me and saved me having to buy my prints too!

I did this same thing in 3D Studio Max in 2000-2001 when I was making car models. Blueprints worked great for this. Great to see that it's still done this way. I'm actually thinking of doing this now for miniatures and cosplay items done on a 3D printer. It's amazing what you can do now. Great video!

Finally! An actual tutorial using simple tools. Blender is so over wehlming. I'm trying to make my first helmet from my 3d head sculpt, it would be cool to see you do a full helmet using the same process.
So, I was looking for good tutorials on using Blender to make figurines for 3D printing like a month ago, and never found anything that didn't seem overwhelming from the start. flash forward to today, and I know a LOT more about the process, from a half hour video! You rock at this!
I got more information from the first 8 minutes of this video than the first 6 tutorial videos on Blenders on youtube channel. Sometimes I don't need the to know where every tool and sub-tool is yet when I am first getting started. I will discover them as needed and I want to get my hands dirty actually sculpting something. Can you just continue making real world examples of how to use Blender? I am just getting started and this has been, by far, the best tutorial I have seen using their program. Seriously. Even if you make your own channel.

I love how the 3d modeling beginner guide starts with a COMPLETELY unreasonable alien barely geometric shape that even finding the point to start with is difficult to figure out. And then proceeds to make it look easy :D
So I went to college for 3D Animation and specialized in 3D modeling for film and just clicked on this vid because I wanted to get a short intro to Blender since I learned Maya... Comes to find out that the programs are really similar!! And I am mind blown that you managed to cram all this info in one tiny video. The only stuff that is missing basically is the explanations on why stuff is the way it is... but that's only important if you wanna really roll in the bizz tho :D Also mit anderen Worten, mega mäßig Hut ab :) Sehr toll gemacht!!
this looked so easy and straight forward! I want to try it right now! thank you very much for this video. I tried to follow tutorials in the older blender version but this 2.8 looks so much friendlier.
With the mirror thing I prefer starting with a cube on the 0 point and splitting it in half and removing the other half for my perfect mirror ^_^ You can do it with sphere etc. just depends what you’re making! But of course we all find our preferred method. I’m so happy they made a blender video! I’ve been itching to get back to it 😁 And the four dot planes are really important!!!!!! (// you can do the cube trick with the plane as well but I personally like working with cubes)
If you use PLA, you have to manually sand the part, depending on the situation (How smooth it came out of the printer) you can apply Spot Putty all over the print and sand it down with an 180 grid sand paper. You can also glue the parts together with krazy glue and baking soda.

fiona kelly you should definitely check Blender Guru youtube channel or his website (even some of his tuts are a bit old) ;-) Other good resources are CGcookie (maybe a bit technical and sometimes boring), and Gleb Alexandrov (freaking cool artist in my opinion). If you want to start sculpting take a look to Yan Sculpts, or CG Boost by Zacharis Reinhardt. Hope it helps and have a nice blending! :-)
You can use the solidify modifier to add thickness. Also, if you want to add the same modifier to multiple pieces (like the mirror modifier for example), instead of doing it manually one by one, you can add it to one piece. Then select all the pieces that you want to have that modifier, and the piece that already has it last. Then hit ctrl+l and choose modifiers.
such a well made introduction to the software, can't stress enough how much of a difference blender 2.8 makes compared to 2.79 especially for beginners, it looks like a minute difference on paper but they honestly should have called it blender 3.0 with how much changed

this looked so easy and straight forward! I want to try it right now! thank you very much for this video. I tried to follow tutorials in the older blender version but this 2.8 looks so much friendlier.

this is the only blender tutorial I've ever understood!
With the mirror thing I prefer starting with a cube on the 0 point and splitting it in half and removing the other half for my perfect mirror ^_^ You can do it with sphere etc. just depends what you’re making! But of course we all find our preferred method.

(// you can do the cube trick with the plane as well but I personally like working with cubes)
If you use PLA, you have to manually sand the part, depending on the situation (How smooth it came out of the printer) you can apply Spot Putty all over the print and sand it down with an 180 grid sand paper. You can also glue the parts together with krazy glue and baking soda.

fiona kelly you should definitely check Blender Guru youtube channel or his website (even some of his tuts are a bit old) ;-)
Other good resources are CGcookie (maybe a bit technical and sometimes boring), and Gleb Alexandrov (freaking cool artist in my opinion). If you want to start sculpting take a look to Yan Sculpts, or CG Boost by Zacharis Reinhardt. Hope it helps and have a nice blending! :-)

You can use the solidify modifier to add thickness.
Also, if you want to add the same modifier to multiple pieces (like the mirror modifier for example), instead of doing it manually one by one, you can add it to one piece. Then select all the pieces that you want to have that modifier, and the piece that already has it last. Then hit ctrl+l and choose modifiers.

such a well made introduction to the software, can't stress enough how much of a difference blender 2.8 makes compared to 2.79 especially for beginners, it looks like a minute difference on paper but they honestly should have called it blender 3.0 with how much changed
