The low dosage on the package may be for smaller goldfish?
Does the medicine hurt the fishes' eyes? I'm just wondering because I was thinking their eyes are sensitive like ours.🤔
Also, you being able to pronounce all of these medications is very impressive!

    • @lukesgoldies

Hmm I am not sure if it hurts their eyes, I think I’ve heard it can be a little harsh on their slime coat

Is there a way of finding out if they have parasites for sure without assuming because they're sick? Curious

    • @lukesgoldies

I know for sure they have full flukes because I looked at Viola’s gills under the microscope and found Gill flukes.

The dosage most web site is 0.5g of 10% in 20G (75L), so the active ingredient is 0.5x100mg/75L=0.66mg/L, But Cloverleaf 5% Flu only recommended 1g in 450L which is 1 x 50mg/450L =0.11mg/L which is really low dosage. I have use this product to treat my discus for hexamita, have follow the dosage which is 0.11mg/L and does not work. Hence, I will follow you to increase dosage but only to 0.3mg/L which is already 3 times recommended dosage.

I wondered if any treatments put in the tank could cause blindness. My Frankie long finned goldfish acted blind before he passed away. I used Melafix in his water in a hospital tank. That was what was recommended by the pet store I use. He had the white stringy poop and swollen belly. He was super tame and I would hand feed him. Towards the end of his prescious life he acted as if he was blind. I was devastated to find him dead after this one time treatment 3 days after the treatment. I now see that in my main tank more stringy poop so I'm using General Cure. It's only a 10 gal tank. I can't afford bigger tanks or I definitely would! I think that for each pet I should have the money to care for them properly. There's no overcrowding. All tiny fish. But I have purchased another 10 gal just for goldfish. They require a lot more cleaning. I am disabled and can only have smaller tanks. You can imagine that my fish are spoiled rotten! I even rearrange their fake trees and stuff because the goldfish like remodeling. My questions are could the Malifix killed my Frankie? And could it have made him blind before death? Or is that just something that occurs during the process of dieing? He was approximately 6 inches with his beautiful tail. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Keeping a goldfish in a 10 gallon tank is unfortunately what likely killed him... Fancy goldfish need a minimum 20 gallons per fish and any single tailed or commet goldfish need like 40 per fish. Otherwise the water quality will be toxic within a day and their growth will be stunted causing internal problems. One thing that people can do is buy a large Rubbermaid type container that has a lot more gallons. Also using a filter rated for at least double the gallons in the tub and testing the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate regularly to keep the water safe

The slime I order comes with borax (white powdery substance) in little baggies just like those, but my mom never questions it because she knows I’m too socially awkward to get drugs 😂
