    Know what Joey?
It’s so good to see you with a partner, with a partner that is beautiful, intelligent, and makes you smile, she makes you care, and she obviously makes you happy.
And that’s mainly because you do the very same for her.
Sometimes it takes a long time in life to find that one person that makes it work.
I’m glad you and Tamera found each other, and are sharing your “likes” equally .
The big pay off is when I see you both smile. Those smiles are real.

I believe louse is singular. And lice is plural. I like this vid. There doesn't seem to be much useful content on issues like this on TH-cam. We are on the tail end of an ich outbreak on our tetras. And still battling against fungus on a group of angels. Always, always, always quarantine.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this video! I had a fish lice outbreak in my little goldfish pond last year and it took me a month to get rid of them. I had pulled the fish out, treated them in tanks inside and dismantled the pond because I’m terrified to reuse any of my equipment. I think I’ll try treating my system with the salt like you did for Tamara’s fish and watch to see if any of those little buggers come back before I add the fish back in there.

Hi Joey, it’s best to treat with dimilin or sites, both aren’t antibiotics so u may be able to get them
If not, a natural of keeping them alongside common angels that can tolerate higher pH or using pond grade Melafix should also do the trick…
Salt baths can work but aren’t the most effective
    Methylene blue is completely useless

    • @NicoleGomez94

And stingrays do potentially carry disease I have one right now that was fine when I got it just a little red then a week later the bacterial disease showed itself in a quarantine tank with a drip system so had nothing to do with water quality. Just some food for thought don’t trust any fish keeper because it is very rare you find people in the hobby that truly care as much as yourself about your animals especially dealing with Kevin from stingray Biology

    • @thekingofdiy
      @thekingofdiy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

With that ray, being with kevin for 3 months. And given it came from him... plus the fact that rays dont carry external. I had nothing to worry about. I mentioned this in the video. With that said, bacteria would be a symptom and secondary. Never assume water is perfect. I'd also not assume its bacterial. Could be irritated. i'd need to see pics.

I would like to quarantaine my fish, but I have 2 tanks in total (and not allowed to have more). So it's hard to find a sollution, and I think most of the small enjoyers of aquariums have this issue. Only having 1 or 2 tanks, adding fish once or twice in a year.

The worst fish lice I ever had were on koi. Fish were missing every day so raccoon traps we re set. One day I put mt arm in the pond and it was covered with fish lice! The raccoons were picking off the affected koi when they were badly infested so it slipped by untill then. One treatment with good old Dylox SP took care of them! Really don't see that chemical around much for fish. Jungle labs used to sell it mixed with salt in a product called FLOUSE. There are other chemicals sold for pond fish such as dimilin these pesticides are what as known as Insect growth regulators. These products are slow acting but effective, most people who don't think they work aren't giving them time. Most integer with chitin production so they kill during a molt or they interfere with egg production etc. so adults are not killed out right.
The Chinese are very good at manually removing visible ectoparasites, so you really need to run fancy goldfish through a quarantine . The other problem is Chilodonella this parasite normally feeds on dead skin cells but fish under stress it is lethal . The fish tend to suddenly die one by one with no real obvious symptoms untill it is to late.. It can be treated with formalin or malachite green/ formalin complex(ie Quick Cure).
Not to totally diss salt but if any of you choose to "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure!" make sure you get the dilution right ! Helpful hint one teaspoon is around 5ml a tablespoon is 15ml and a fluid ounce is around 30ml (IIRC it is really 29.6ml). You can use a 1 or 1/2 cc syringe to measure out small dosages. Most pond medications are how much to add per 50 gallons of water..

Thank for stressing the value of quarantineing fish. I know your desire to place the fish where you bought them but be patience and quartine for the safety of the new fish but also for the safety of existing fish. All it takes is just one time being being impatience can wipe existing fish as well as the new one. Also having a smaller tank, tub or tote ir does tank as much to raise the heat add salts or actual use of meds in the last resort. Also you protecting the fish being quarantined from the attacks other fish may cause while the new fish or sick fish is in a weaker condition. Also less water in the water change you will preform during the process. It is a time where you can study your fish closer without any interference from other fish especially understanding their feeding habits and preferences and giving the a variety of food to build them up and introduce them to the foods you feed the other fish. And finally it helps to bond with the fish so that the fish recognize you are there to care for and fed them, not to harm them. You will know it as you approach them the will come and greet you anticipating you feeding them with the waving and twisting of their bodies. Much like a dogs wags it's tail and nudge you to play and interact with them as well as feeding them once they see you as their source for care, interactions and food; and they to like a dog will show you they happy to see you as the follow you when you are bear their tank and that bond begins through the quarantine process without to much interference from others. I tell people this and they don't believe it and dont want to add to the expenses and time but evenually you will discover a crash in the health of existing fish and can be 100% destruction that you will incure costing one far more than the time taken to set up a quarantine system and to buy all the materials nesscary to set up a quarantine tank. I have used a five gallon bucket but I recommend a 15 to 20 gallon or 57 liter to 75 liter for best results especially if it is mutiple new fish. And if someting happen like a leak in an existing system you have a temporary place until you can fix the leak or buy a new tank. Quick note after every quarantine i recommed emptying the tank sterilize it and clean the filter through sterilizin it in boiling water and drying the part in uv or the sun. Then reset the tank back up and preparing it for more fish in the future; as you will already be ready for the fish you find that you have got to have and havent thought abour ready for and you are already starting it through the quarantine process. I know when people hear it from a fish store that they should quartine fish brfore introducing it wit other fish , they are trying to sell them more product. But in the reality is the insurance that if you have a problem you will save the lives on many other fish that can be exposed. Yes they could ignore it knowing that if a sick fish get onto your aquarium they can sell more fish. But it also can cause people to become discouraged and drop out of the hobby all together. However when you do the right thing from the being for the fish you ressults are healthy happy fish. And if you have a problem the fish provider will be more helpful to help you and to replace the fish if it dies. You can take pictures that document the issue and hiw you fealt with it. I never encountered a problem that a local mom and pop fish store will do to resolve you problem to keep you business and if they dont they probably aren’t that good in maintain quality of fish they sale. Mail order is somewhat different but once you build the trust on both sides they are more willing to see they sold you a sick fish unknowingly and it better to maintain a good relationship for further sales and now days online reviews for the provider. When i worked in a local fish storecif people did setu a quarantine system and documented the process to insure the quality of health fo a fish and best start if it died i was instructed to refund redit or give the another fish to replace the one that was lost. I recommend using a quarantine system before introducing fish to a new aquarium before a much larger tank had established so no virus infection or parasite could get into that tank. Also while quarantineing allows the nitrogen cycle to be established in the new tank. I believe thr quarantine sytem is vital to the quality of life to start any aquatic life off. By having a quarantine stsyem shows you are more concerned go the fishes and other aquatic life's wll being, be it salt or fresh water.
And if you dont agree it ok but at some point you will pay the price and the health of these animals. When you get a car or a dog it goes through a process of vaccine shots and special care required to enrich and to start their lives in you care. Why not giving your aquatic animals the same attention for better health starting with a quarantine sytem. You are making and investment and over time you will spend alot of time and money, so you dont want to skip steps to protect you investments and especially the lives of the animals you bring into the water environment. If you woul do it for a dog or cat why not your aquatic animaks as well to ensure much health and a longer life. Also quality foods and variety adding in live brine or worms or frozen varieties, not only for better health but also to bring out the color and helps to make them grow and to stimulate natural tendency to hunt and seek out food not only for nourishment but at so stimulate their mind and exercise. I cant image people earing the samething everyday and also low quality and expect good health and long life, therefore why should we not treat our aquatic friends with the same regard. By varing the diet helps strenghten their immune sytem to get the best results over for a much longer time. Next is water quality test the aquarium water in a quarantine system daily when you have met the water quality and adjusted where it needs you will have a greater success. Add some cheap cover an places to hide like a breeding mop or cut off of existing plants that can float on the surface or in the water a simple sponge filter, a quality air pump and a cheap light to set your, it don't have to be a aquarium light so you can observe and see you aquatic animals in quarantine sytem. I allow quarantine of live plants to be sure they are not infested with other disease or animal that could infect my fish.
I know this is long but the nessecity is so understand in the hobby especially the newbies of the aquatic world and to help the more experienced to remember to set up a quarantine system and resist the urge to add in an existing environment or the urge to by something that we see in a spontaneous purchase we have some place for that fish that is established until we can setup a new tank and while it is going through it cycle, establishing a permanent environment we are not rushed because we are quarantineing the fish as well so it gets off on a good start. So thanks Joey for mentioning this as you probably can tell I am very passionate about quarantine to help ensure quality health for all the aquatic life including that of plants and aquascaping materials. Tannins from leeching out from botinanic, such a leaves and variuos woods carry in their cell struture that becomes antibiotics that too can aid to help your aquatic life get stronger but it also helps with their stress due to it darkening the water some and slime coat to become stronger. As you can tell I seek after whatever it takes holistically over medication therapy. Adding tannic water is a part of the process I like wood to set in a tank and leech out then use that water fit water changes. I like things that after a quarantine I can sterilize or throw away. It is important to do this step to maintain the best health for new fish plants. You can get aquarium Botanicals like leaves pods seed or small branches you can boil to get tannic enriched water and it cleans and sterilizes the botanical items in the boiling process, that you can added to the quarantine system. And that is another topic that many fail to understand as they want the crystal clear water so they can see their fish. But adding a few Botanicals can also be medicinal as well adding some depth and color to the aquarium. By a water change you can control the amount of Tannins that effect the clarity and visibility to the animals in the water yet gives some help to the water quality and the medicinal heath of your aquatic animals.
Sorry for the long text but I feel it is one of the most overlooked topics or ignored that is so important to have this hobby being with a greater success and longer lives to the all the lives in this little aquatic environment, which we are trying to replicate.
