Thanks for sharing. One of my female mosaic tail is exactly what you described, being skinny all of a sudden and she stays at the base or near the water surface where there is no water current. She gets kind of bend when she is swimming near the water surface but her appetite is normal and I have seen the stringy white poop. Now time to buy the medicines.

Irene, Thank you! This is the clearest explanation I have found for the difference between the 2 kinds of dewormers and which to use for which parasite. And the Levamisole dosing explanation is also the clearest I've found. Thanks to you, I'll be purchasing it from Select Aquatics and trying to save the rest of my guppies and endlers. As always, keep putting out the excellent content! You are helping us fish keepers SO much!
I really needed this video. For so long two of my danio have been bloated and I do believe there's a little red thread hanging out the backend of the largest one. Recently one of my other Danios died and they always acted rather sluggish, didn't look too good and appeared to just slowly waste away
Hey, I know it's unrelated to the topic of the video but I noticed you have red algae and green spot algae! I fought the same algae for a couple of years in my tank. That red stuff especially would grow on everything and it looked exactly like what's in the video. I just recently managed to mostly get rid of that red algae after I started injecting CO2 to the tank about 2 months ago. I never realized this until just before I setup CO2 on the tank but after a few hours of running the lights on my tank on my old setup with Seachem Excel and no CO2 injection, the pH would rise to over 8.0. This meant my CO2 was near 0ppm, even with the heavy surface agitation I had. Overnight the pH would drop to around 7.4-7.6, indicating CO2 was around 5ppm. If you're able to measure your tanks pH and kH, or you know your local water supply's kH, you could do the same tests on your tank to see what the CO2 levels are like (should come up if you search "pH kH CO2 chart" on Google). For me, within about 2 weeks of adding CO2, the red algae actually stopped reproducing! With CO2 now around 25ppm, my pH is 6.7 and I think the lower pH stops the red algae from reproducing. I Increased CO2 slowly to 25 ppm over about 4 weeks though, to minimize stress on the fish and they never really seemed bothered by it. I have a theory that the red algae is some type of red cyanobacteria since it's sometimes a bit slimy and it peels off in sheets.Though other times it's a bit dry and fuzzy so it could also be a type of BBA...or some nasty combination of the two. I read online that cyano can only reproduce within a certain range of pH values so this perhaps explains why lowering the pH stopped it from reproducing. However it could also be a type of BBA, in which case fixing CO2 levels also usually stops BBA from reproducing. I had to manually remove the red algae but after that, it was almost entirely gone! There's a few dying spots near my filter outtake that I couldn't clean properly because it's latched on there really strong but other that that, it hasn't grown anywhere else in the tank! Similar situation with the green spot algae, it stopped growing as well, I just had to manually remove as much as I could. I run medium-high lighting about 7 hrs a day. Also, I started dosing NilocG Thrive all-in-one with a 50% water change weekly (used to do 30% weekly) and I'm also using Seachem Advance for this week and next week to help my plants develop roots and bounce back after being suffocated by algae. I also increased the amount of biomedia in my filter because I heard that could help with cyano. The tank is definitely starting bouncing bank now, it's mostly algae free and the new plant growth is looking lush and healthy. The plants were in really bad shape before I fixed the algae problem.
@girltalksfish Thank you so much for all of your informative videos ! You have taught me so much 😊 im dealing with an unknown sickness in my tank and want to use salt. Will the salt be ok for my Kuhli loaches ?
Good question! I personally am going to stick with the quarantine medication trio. However, if any fish dies even after treatment with the med trio, then my next step is to add some more minerals and definitely consider dosing levamisole next. Because I know you said you didn't want to use salt because you had plants and I've used salt in the past and it saw all of my plants off near enough

great video, helpful! sorry that you lost a few endlers, but this helped me out, I could never keep mollies they would always waste away on my even after med trio and quarantine periods. Next time will know better
Endlers are active, quiet aggressive to each other (play with theirs friend), and yes they jumping due curiosity what is outside the box. Some fishes laying them selves on some rock, leaf, to have a rest and sleep. Mine never dead, maybe because outside ponds?
Is this endler or livebearer specific, or would it be worth a try with my rams that show the exact same symptoms? I cannot see any worms and they do well for about 2-3 months, then they suddenly waste away.
Great question! Sorry I should have made it clearer that these worms affect many other kinds of fish like loaches, angelfish, puffers, etc. You can contact Greg Sage through his website selectaquatics.com to make sure they're safe for rams; he's very responsive and helpful. Also, I made the mistake of not keeping my ram at higher temperatures like 84°F and he ended up fading away over time because of that. Best of luck to ya!
I lost an endler today, very much how you described. He died suddenly after resting on the leaves for a while. I thought maybe the tank needed cleaning so I changed the water and took some decor out. When I did, I found a little squiggly red worm. :S Now I'm wondering...I had neon and green neon tetras in the same tank - they were moved to a bigger home yesterday. I'm likely going to get some treatment first thing tomorrow. Do I need to treat the tetras too?
@@thehornwortofhornwort9832 Good to know thanks for the info. Puffers are know for parasites as many are wild caught. I recently lost one that would keep loosing weight despite eating.
I'm so sorry to hear that! From what I understand, fish TB is a form of mycobacteriosis. Aquarium Co-Op just did a video on mycobacterial infections in neon tetras, but it also applies to other kinds of fish. th-cam.com/video/l7uK_YYljTY/w-d-xo.html Here is the article he referenced on the disease: fisheries.tamu.edu/files/2013/09/SRAC-Publication-No.-4706-Mycobacterial-Infections-of-Fish.pdf
Thank you for sharing your experience. You can't just take sick fish to the vet to get answers so having resources like this video are a wonderful tool. Yes more videos like this would be great. I keep a journal with notes I make from watching informative videos so I have a reference if I need it later. lol I'm a nerd
Michael, I would suspect the vendor supplying Petco realizes if customers could breed their own, Petco wouldn’t need to keep buying from them. Just speculating, I have no information to support that view.
Thanks for the information. I lost two wild caught bluefin killifish that had those symptoms. I used a general cure as you did, but it didn’t save them. They were part of a wild caught community tank of fish that are not showing those symptoms. I may contact Greg and follow through with treatments for my remaining fish.
Maybe... I'm not sure if I succeeded in completely eradicating the disease, so I'm a little hesitant to recommended a bulletproof treatment without more testing.
I'm a little concerned about my betta fish it's a Dragon betta fish I think something may be happening He stays on the top of the fish tank does he need air or food I feed him all the time I have the hanging water pump that came with the 10 gallon tank kit I increased water flow for more air the water is kinda cloudy should I change the water I have no ideal how to clean a fish tank I also have neon Tetris that have or looks like food particles on their bodys I don't know what to do can I manually clean the Tetris with a soft sponge? I think I've seen one of the Tetris with ring worms the second week I had them but I don't see it anymore I thought it was a baby tetras or poop 🐟
(I know this is unrelated, but I figured I’d comment it anyways just in case anyone has some advice for me) I set up my planted tank about a week ago! All the plants are doing super well I think, but I’m having a problem with bio film on the top! It looks almost like oil. If I remove it to the best of my abilities, it just grows back within a day or so. Should I be worried? I don’t want everything to die 😫
Yes, I added Greg's suggested amount of 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons. Not sure if that will hold true for all plants, but it was weak enough to not affect mine at all. 👍
Anyone in UK know any meds to use? Ive lost 15 Guppys and 5 Platys in last month or so , no marks on them but ive only lost Livebearers, my Otos and Corys etc are fine and water tests are perfect. Im going mad and so stressed, ive tried all sorts of meds but not this one in the video but cant find it in UK so anyone know what to do????
All of these great meds are not available in Europe sadly. I treat my endlers with methylene blue and feed them regular flakes soaked in water with epsom salt and it works.
Good question! I would email Greg Sage to make sure since he's used the medication for so many years, but I used it to treat my loaches and they didn't have any problems with it.
My fish has this problem... but he has not died. He's been alive for over a year now. I also have a conjoined fish he's also doing fine To,what is my luck.
When i have fish i have like neons and hatchet rasboras and im noticing that one of the neons looks distorted body like a little bent, that fish died and suddenly 3weeks later another neon like that appear and then also died, i did medicate general cure but on the meds many of my fish died during medication after that seems ok but suddenly a month later a rasbora with distorted body i found swimming and noticing that now my rasboras are getting fewer. And also i have pink zebras but those zebras get those distorted bodies like 4months after. i transfer the remaining zebra fish to another tank and medicate them with same med and after that no one died with that symptoms again. I did washed with soap and change substrate from the main tank and change sponges, and after that the remaining fish did do well now
It isnt usual for a fish to die from old age because age simply makes them more susceptible to disease that usually ends them. I see what you mean though! I also had this problem and thought it was old age (which was likely the reason they easily got it then died)

Here is the article he referenced on the disease: fisheries.tamu.edu/files/2013/09/SRAC-Publication-No.-4706-Mycobacterial-Infections-of-Fish.pdf
Your videos are awesome
Do you have shrimp in your tank? If so they could be the reason why you can't find any dead fish.
I do in the main tank, so that totally makes sense!
@@GirlTalksFish can you use levamisole in a tank with shrimp??
Thank you for sharing your experience. You can't just take sick fish to the vet to get answers so having resources like this video are a wonderful tool. Yes more videos like this would be great. I keep a journal with notes I make from watching informative videos so I have a reference if I need it later. lol I'm a nerd
Now i know why all my 30 guppys died😣 i love your videos!!
IRENE!! Great question in the beginning of your video. Why does Pet Smart only carry males?!!! Same at ours.
Michael! My best guess is that the females are boring looking and don't sell as well? Or people are afraid of getting overrun by babies?
@@chrisshelton3504 That is a great observation!
My fish store only gets males too. They said they rarely get females but I didn’t ask why. Next time I go I will ..!?
Could you do a video on columnaris?
I tried to feed pellet soaked on garlic juice on my female guppy with white poop for 1 week then this morning I saw her poop went back to normal.
You added salt to your planted tank??
Yes, I added Greg's suggested amount of 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons. Not sure if that will hold true for all plants, but it was weak enough to not affect mine at all. 👍
Girl Talks Fish oh great!! Thank you!!
Thank you!!!
But..... can it be used in a tank with scaleless fish?
Good question! I would email Greg Sage to make sure since he's used the medication for so many years, but I used it to treat my loaches and they didn't have any problems with it.
My fish has this problem... but he has not died. He's been alive for over a year now. I also have a conjoined fish he's also doing fine
To,what is my luck.
I just found this video after I lost 3 of my Mollies due to this problem :(
Now I know what killed my guppy :(
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that!
Same
When i have fish i have like neons and hatchet rasboras and im noticing that one of the neons looks distorted body like a little bent, that fish died and suddenly 3weeks later another neon like that appear and then also died, i did medicate general cure but on the meds many of my fish died during medication after that seems ok but suddenly a month later a rasbora with distorted body i found swimming and noticing that now my rasboras are getting fewer. And also i have pink zebras but those zebras get those distorted bodies like 4months after. i transfer the remaining zebra fish to another tank and medicate them with same med and after that no one died with that symptoms again. I did washed with soap and change substrate from the main tank and change sponges, and after that the remaining fish did do well now
Luckily you didn’t add the footage of death endler .I’m having dinner.
Yeah, I don't like to see dead fish either. 😥
we cant even access general cure
𝑆𝑜 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝𝑓𝑢𝑙! 𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘𝑠!
And NONE of the medications that actually work are available here in Canada. So frustrating.
That's cuase of poeple over using them resulting in residence to medicines needed for humane use.
Unless you know the history of the fish cos in some cases it might just be old age 🤔
It isnt usual for a fish to die from old age because age simply makes them more susceptible to disease that usually ends them. I see what you mean though! I also had this problem and thought it was old age (which was likely the reason they easily got it then died)
Good to know. But a 4 dollar fish turns into a 30 dollar project of guess work and hope. Lol
Bad choice to watch while eating breakfast
Lol, oh no!
