This is such a clear and important video (and part I). I wish I'd had it available when I started dancing and can't figure out why teachers don't talk about these ideas more.

Thanks Laura for this amazing content! Do you have any recommendations to make your body express what your ‘ears’ suggest? Many times I feel like I am part of the music with my head but not with my body (also, I have never danced in my life before starting Lindy and jazz roots). Any tips? Thank you - you’re wonderful!🌸

Oh, man - that's so difficult. I remember when I was first dancing I didn't know how to do anything, and the music was so powerful that I would just go crazy. I would try doing things, and then I would just stand there at a loss of how to express what I was feeling.
It's frustrating to feel like you don't have access to what you want to say, but honestly, I think that's just part of it. I think that's just practice. It takes a while to amass vocabulary, the ability to string it together, the ability to alter it, and the ability to make up something new. I think it's important to dance as much as you can. I did a ton on the social dance floor and in my room by myself. When in doubt, just bounce your butt. For swing era jazz, bouncing your butt is the basic, and everything else is icing.

It would be really great to get some further ideas/inspiration how to express the musicality with keeping the frame of the figure (so different to break away) from both lead and follow role. Basicaly continuation of the last part in the video :-)
