    I think my TH-cam algorithm must be in tune with San Antonio swing dance society. This is exactly the fun spin Megan put on the beginner lindy hop class today. Super fun stuff!

    Ahhhh! Laura thank you so much! I've been a bit of a funk trying to find ways to be more creative in my social dance and this is the perfect video.
    Playing around and being silly is only of my favorite aspects of swing and dance in general, and this is a great reminder as well as a fantastic creative springboard.
    Thank you for continuing to make these and spreading the joy of swing.

    Great stuff! I have been practicing the basic step & he goes for hours for several days and I really wanted to add some variation to my practice to slowly gain confidence to change patterns and direction, and this is perfect! Thank you!

    Laura, I always get something out of your videos, and in this case I think there's some happy synchronicity because I've been working on improvisation like in your video, but I find 8 count a lot easier, but I'll slowly start working on 6 count.

    Since I know you usually use music by the Brooks Prumo Orchestra (and note in your comments that the music in the video is by them, is the first song a yet-unreleased version of "Corner Pocket?" that they did, or is it someone else's version.
    Great video! The place I dance at most frequently is very 6-count ECS heavy, and I've been trying to add some more variations to keep it interesting in the absence of being as free to mix 6 and 8-count moves and patterns, so this will be really helpful for me.

      Ah, keen ear! That was my bad being sloppy. This is an album Brooks is on, but it's not Brooks's band. It's the Floyd Domino All-Stars. I don't think it's on an album, but this is from a live show they did in Austin. The whole band is so good. Check them out!

      @LauraGlaess I'm a musician who is learning how to dance, so I guess I pay a lot of attention to music. Plus Corner Pocket might be my favorite song to dance to. I'll definitely check to band out!

    Why have 6 count variations, when 95% of all the music in 8 count phrases?

    • @geekonomist
      @geekonomist 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is not 95% of the music in 8 count phrases, it is 99.999%. So what is the point of 6 count variations?

    • @zumazuma568
      @zumazuma568 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@geekonomist 100%, unless you're trying to dance to "Take Five" or something. But that's not the point.
      You know how not every melody starts on 1 and ends on 8? It's the same with dancing: if you always start on 1 and end on 8 it would be very boring and stilted. Sometimes you want to emphasize an accent in the music in a certain way, but that requires that you start the movement earlier than 1. Sometimes you want to do an aerial, but it takes 10 counts. Sometimes you need to quickly switch positions or hands or places. Sometimes music calls for prolonging a certain step or speeding up a certain movement. Sometimes your partner does something cool in the middle of your figure, so you drop the figure and follow them instead, and then god knows how many counts you did. Normally you end with 4-counts, 6-counts, 8-counts, 10-counts mixed in the same dance. If you look at any original swing dancing videos from 1930s-1950s, you'll see plenty of 6-count figures.
