These 2 guys have an enviable skill in their process: They listen. They allow the subject matter to do most of the talking. Great questions. There are snippets of their own experiences that they throw into the mix but its never expressed in a way that takes the focus away from the interviewee. Kudo.
Just brilliant. Man this took me back to a time when kiwis were more real and connected. So many terrific memories from the 90s here. Thanks for putting this together boys.
I was in the Otago team when Marc made his debut, his attitude to rugby was brilliant, a great team man and a real scarfie, Loved his few beers and his mates, and played rugby with such talent and the freedom just to enjoy the game. The likes of Marc, JT (John Timu) and JL (John Leslie) were a band of brothers on and off the field. Great fun, always followed his career, and his shows. Loved this reminder. Great to see you Marc
Mr Pope. you were pretty awesome to mate, the Otago Teams in those days were a joy to follow, Carisbrooke was our 2nd home watching you guys..Great episode and forgot how funny Marc and all the stories about the scarfie days,,,we were locals at time but all our friends at Otago Uni always invited us to the best parties and throw in the Garden Tavern & The Cook & Oriental and that place rocked..Really Enjoy Marc Ellis reminiscing...so enjoyable..
Sir you were incredible in your own right. My father's an Otago man and growing up I constantly heard about ur 87/88 season and also the 91 title win. If you're still in Ireland I hope you're really loving it over there! Cheers
Marc reminiscing about Otago is exactly like myself and mates…attempting to contain the laughter when regaling people with tales of old is almost impossible. Some of the best years of my life
He was always going to be successful. Anyone who lived in Dunedin in the 90s knows he was a lot more than just a rugby player. Unquestionably the king of scarfies!
Well done boyz, great show and good to see Ellis looking so young and still a mischief bugger! Been living all over the world for the last 30 years and awesome to see NZ has still got that heart and soul I've been missing for so long. I've never been homesick but dam you guys as well as Marc have made me make plans to finally go home. That last quote at the end got me man!
What a fantastic interview. A true legend in so many different ways and what an example of a good Kiwi bloke with wonderful values. Loved that podcast chaps.
Bloody hell he so correct in what he says of/to Bob Jones at the very end! NZ needs more people like you Marc.....Power of love over a love of power you are!
Wow lads bloody top show brought back some great memories...l would love to go back to those days good times. Well done team and congrats to you maca!!!!
What a fantastic episode. Love the way you guys structured the conversation and did your research to bring up different stories. Awesome to hear Marc share stories, one of the best story tellers out there. Things I’ve taken away and looking to implement are getting into the story and really sharing it like you were there, discipline and having a structured early wake up time, dreaming big as, and doing more fun things that don’t harm anyone. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds for between two beers, you guys are going from strength to strength.
Great podcast. Looooove the attitude to life, sport, people, the Kiwi way and fun! (The Bob Jones story reminds me of the CEO who goes on holiday to a little fishing village. Out on a boat he says to the skipper ‘you could have 10 of these and build an empire’. The skipper contemplates and says ‘to what end’? Well, says the CEO, you could then retire and spend your days fishing….)
Big fan of the podcast, and it’s cool to see these videos too. I wonder if it’s possible to order the ‘screens’ so that when the guests are looking at each of you, it’s reflected on screen? Currently if Marc is looking at Seamus, on screen it looks like he’s looking at Steven (and visa versa).
When I think of Marc Ellis I think if a hardcase dude who was mean at Sport & loved to have a good laugh. So much depth to who he is & someone I imagine a lot of people misunderstand. What an awesome listen & I think more would tune in to Macca & Ridgey in their 60s still trying to beat each other. 😂
that last bit talking about bob, i've seen the love and family side of things in the maori community in the early days and you can't beat it, it was lost for a generation but I hope it comes back because it will save nz from the rest of the world, community is the most important thing for us today
Farkin brilliant show guys. I always wondered what Marc's secret was. He was always the 'big succesful' thing. He knew what he was doing all along. A wonderful kiwi man, who thought things through and achieved. Big ups that man
Marc Ellis was my fourth-form prefect at Wellington College. Everyone knew he was going to be a star! Our form teacher that year was the 1st XV coach. He introduced him to the class as "Future All Black Mark Ellis." He was funny and witty and one in a generation of pure, natural, and gifted athletes! I remember him crunching some poor fella in a 1st XV game against a club team. We played club teams (WRFC Under 19 grade) back in those days.
That was fun to watch, brought back good memories. Loved “Sports Cafe” back in the day. I’ve been away from NZ for nearly 20 years but remember Ellis being a huge personality and a top sportsman back then and he represented a fun side of sports and friendships. Was always kind of curious where Marc ended up? Actually thought he probably crashed and burned into obscurity. Lol! It’s very pleasing to see he’s enjoying success and fulfilment in his life. Couldn’t have happened to a better bloke.🍺
Another awesome interview with another ... "KIWI-LEGEND" ... Marc Ellis. Kapai Marc you're a bloody good buggar ... real beaut mate. Faarkin good kunt. All the ..."BEST" to you and the ..."WHANAU" ... Cuzzie bro. Adored Marc's comment to that quote at the end of this interview. Naaah ..."That's JUST" the ..."KIWI" ... "WAY"!!! Didn't like Bob Jones BS Worldly riches acquired life ... which made him arrogant and ignorant and pathetically stupid. Many a ordinary ..."KIWI"... shared that that same line of thought about this ..."BLOWEN/UP" ..."EGOSTISTIC" ... "FOOL"!!! Top tier businessman ... but a jerk!!! Absolutely loved both Marc Ellis and Matthew Ridge as ..."Top of the Tier"... "Sportsmen" ... "NZ - Representatives" ... and also 2 ..."Genius"... "Showman" ... on thee ole (TV) box. Made many a "Belly" (Poku) wobble hysterically with laughter. I believe many a ..."KIWI" ... would love the return of both these men back as 60 year ole dudes ripping it up as hilarious ole farts lol. Much Respect & Arohanui too both and their whanau (families) futures, happiness and well being.
Marc is wrong about money not buying happiness. If you dont have money, you have worries, you have stress. With money, those particular stresses go away. Unless you make shitty choices, that is. But if you have money and are good at using it to make your life happy, it will be. Its a luxury that a lot of people simply dont have access to.
Marc Ellis is what you call a true blue kiwi. Great sense of humour, hard worker, great family man, good values, just a great human being.
And the drug ring thing???? Lol
@@Insert.anger50 you aren’t a true kiwi if you haven’t dabbled in the old drug or 2 😂
@@AstroWrLd44 right
@Niuway44 There's Dabberling....Then there's dealing....🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@62cripple you ain’t a true kiwi unless one of your buddies is a dealer 😂
Gosh, every now and again Mark's voice reminds me of Winston Peter's.
I can sit and listen to them all night.
Marc what a bloody legend, best 90mins I have listened to in a long time.
