      I’m doing my undergraduate in Psychology and at this moment I’m literally numb because I missed my 2 exams already because of work and have an assignment due , that I haven’t started 😭 I’ve been paralysed from my anxiety and it hits me that what Sihle is saying , no matter how bad I’m feeling in won’t change the truth and it’s up to me to get up and take charge , which feels so hard at the moment.💔 so sad

    Mental health is very touchy subject. I hear what you saying sis but remember like any other condition MENTAL HEALTH shapes and forms who we are. If you can be well physically, financially and spiritually why can’t you be well mentally…by saying this i mean if you recovered from a very bad fever you wouldn’t do anything that can trigger the fever to come back right? Why can’t we treat mental health similar? We cannot disregard people’s feelings and emotions just because “it’s feelings, and feelings aren’t consistent, they keep on changing” it’s the same feeling that will make you grow stronger when you acknowledge it. Feel the emotions, go through the emotions. Acknowledge them
    If I went through a painful divorce and say oh well me feeling pain and feeling broken won’t bring back my marriage so let me just keep it moving…that will make me break down at some point because we are human. I’m not saying stay trapped in that dark place of sadness, pain and depression but all I’m saying is realizing what caused you pain or what made you behave a certain way helps in becoming a stronger, better and greater you.
    This I don’t care about feelings kills relational wellness because I can’t show up as a good friend, partner or parent to anyone because I’m looking at facts. Let us not have a AI approach when dealing with mental health issues. It’s very important that we are well holistically prioritizing mental health like any other condition is important.

      I feel you. There needs to be balance between acknowledging where you are mentally and still working towards where you want to be in life. Sihle is right that some people overindulge their mental issues and use them to deflect responsibility but completely ignoring one's mental issues and rawdogging life isn't healthy either. Like you said we aren't AI

      I fully agree that there needs to be a balance between acknowledging where you are mentally and working towards where you want to be in life. But Its who whole different thing we are currently in that dark space. It's like drowning, all one sees is darkness. Its suffocating, things are not clear and it takes a whole lot more than that. if it was then suicide would not be a thing.

    • @lucelletadiwanashemakubika7636
      @lucelletadiwanashemakubika7636 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Lol so how is someone supposed to stop the adhd zoning out😂, it happens for like 10 seconds, then we come back to reality. Even you whos not adhd you zone out sometimes, but for us its frequently. Thats why there is medication for it.
      But ya the anxiety excuse is used too often. I understand people using that statement for like extreme things like sky diving. I also struggle with anxiety, but I just had to soldier on. Struggled with writing exams or being on the road, cause my anxiety causes diarrhea🫣.Had to write exams with a sick note.
      I don't know about "depression dosent allow me to do that", but it can lower your energy, give you fatigue. So we might not do things that will affect us negatively, like cleaning the room or for some keeping up with hygiene 😂, not going out or talking to people as much as we used to. But we will do our school work or go work and other necessary things.
      If it's major depression, then that one is serious and not an excuse.
      But thank God for medication I'm now better.

    • @asaneledlamini-j4y
      @asaneledlamini-j4y 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @lucelletadiwanashemakubika7636 question is,did you go to a medical doctor who confirmed that you have adhd??🤭or you're just assuming and joining the trend yokuth you have adhd if a particular minnnnor thing happens to you like the "zoning" out you're talking about.
      The anxiety part...almost everyone has anxiety now and it's quite normal.I had severe anxiety too but you just learn to cope with it and perform😌....but at the end of the day blaming mental illness on everything you do isn't the solution bandla😭🙏I understand it's severe for others mara ngeke bafethu

    Mental illness is the same as physical illness, You can’t say someone with diabetes is just looking for attention or making excuses. I’ve dealt with anxiety and it’s unbelievable how debilitating it is, Not everyone knows how to deal their mental health problems just like not everyone knows how to manage their diabetes. If you’ve never been there you will never understand.

      The problem with mental health is that people diagnose themselves and this is wrong because they should be diagnosed by professionals. If you feel like your mental health is compromised people should consider seeing professionals because they end up diagnosing themselves with wrong things to avoid responsibilities. Mental illness is a disease and it also needs medication, you saying I have anxiety/ depression without taking medication that's means you don't have those things you're perfectly fine but faking it.

    Another reason people are "dealing with mental health issues" is because we have become to attached to everything in this world
    You attached to money so when you dont have it or loose it you fall depressed
    You attached to your partner so when they inevitably leave you,you feel depressed
    People are even attached to emotions, when you feel angry you say "I am angry" instead of i am experiencing feelings of anger...by saying that you have already detached yourself why because you aren't your anger you are just experiencing anger for the moment but it is not you so why be attached
    And much more, if society could just detach themselves to the impermanence of this world they would be dealing with far less and far less would makes us happy or sad

      @@LifeIsGood49 I speaking in terms of emotional intelligence through detachment...instead of identifying with your emotions detach yourself from them analyze why you feel that emotion and then react....we feel depressed and all because we are attached to the emotion
      People are too attached to the emotion of happiness so when they not happy or don't have the things that make them happy they claim they are depressed...people are so attached to feeling sad all the time that they make up terms for them wallowing in that sadness never doing anything about it
      Detachment is great but it depends on how you view it, your first thought was that psychopaths have detached emotions but you overlooked the positives of detached emotions if doneright, we tend to only view the world in one perspective and that's another reason all these mental health issues are now something people use as a handicap

    you are very right sihle, it's either people are using mental health as a way of getting attention from people or they don't know how to deal with their issues.2012 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, that ish almost ruined my life if not kill me. I even left law because I was struggling with public speaking due to my anxiety. I then studied IOPsychology, that course changed my life for the better, it helped me understand myself and helped me deal with my episodes in a positive manner. halfway my degree I bought a book called "Pulling The Trigger " and it changed my life for better. Now I hardly get triggered.

I don't want them near my kids because I know they don't want to see me succeed. We don't have to invite unnecessary battle's that you know ukuthi by having these people in my life I'll constantly have to be fighting to go forward. Life on its own is a constant battle.

  • @michellerisimati

    Remember, mental health wasn’t a topic of conversation for centuries.
    Because mental health has rarely been discussed, we now have people casually saying things like, “Oh, I have anxiety” or “I am depressed.” In many cases, they might just be experiencing stress or temporary challenges.
    But Sihle, mental illness is a real issue, and many people are genuinely affected by it. They are taking medication, attending therapy, and seeking help. I believe mental health illness is more complex than conditions like diabetes or other chronic illnesses.
    I believe that people who claim to be “depressed” without a proper diagnosis should face consequences.
    Additionally, when following social media pages that discuss mental health, we can’t be sure if the individuals providing information are qualified or knowledgeable.
    Some people may exploit mental health issues to evade accountability for their actions.

    I agree with you on a lot of your takes and absolutely on being accountable but this. Depression is a clinical diagnosis because your mood needs to be observable “over time” and thus not “constantly” changing.
    If you don’t want to “coddle” anyone, don’t but please don’t trivialise trauma to spoilt brat tendencies- there’s a humongous difference between the two. Also how are we speaking about love as per Corinthians 13 when people are “triggered” or cut people off but this can’t be applied by you when they communicate their state of being?
    by being patient and kind.
