The daughter character in this was one of the many problems of this movie. This plot was done already in die hard 4 and it was just as poorly done in that as it is here. Family drama bull shit doesnt belong in these movies. These movies arent soap operas. Plus her character was such a whiny poor me poor me my daddy wasnt around type. She was behaving like a spoilt child. Her character wasnt likeable in the least, she had no charisma, and she wasnt at all interesting enough to be a main character in a BHC movie who teams up with Axel Foley.
She was my main gripe with the movie. Boring family drama has no place in BHC. Just dragged the movie down and killed the laughs. Axel should have just told her to get lost.

This kind of stuff doesn't fit the BHC movies. I get that Eddie probably wanted to inject some depth into it as he's alot older and wouldn't be the same man he was 30 years ago but show his maturity in other ways. The estranged daughter who hates her father but comes to love him by the end has been done so many times before and it's so predictable at this point, but it just doesn't fit the tone of these movies. If they had to go the estranged daughter route then it would have made more sense for the daughter to have been kidnapped instead of rosewood, so that Axel can reteam with rosewood to find her. She's off camera for most of the movie while rosewood is back where he should be.
The daughter and Rosewood could have pretty easily been swapped. The daughter going missing and Axel spending time with Rosewood instead would have boosted this movie ten-fold. Thought it was funny when characters were insisting she is just like her father, when Axel is a bundle of fun and she’s basically a humourless, moody buzzkill.
Youre right that Serge was funnier in the first movie when he wasn't over the top. But he was over the top in the 3rd movie, and hes over the top again in the 4th. He went from a low key funny character to a caricature.
3 wasn't appreciated because it tried to make a seriously deep point about society while at the same time being just a bad comedic movie. Everyone missed the deep point about "behind the curtains", the befuddled old Disney fried chicken colonel as a mere anchorman or playing a role just like a guy in a Mickey Mouse costume, treated like a serious businessman but who didn't understand what was going on, etc. It was about American society.
I agree with you it's true. Axel F was awful. I've watched it twice now just to make sure I'm not tripping but no it's awful. Poor dialogue, poor editing, poor action scenes, poor derivative music score, boring characters, weak story, over the top characters, not funny when it's trying to be, no sense of danger or violence, it lacks edge, it's all very dumbed down, the list is endless regarding how bad this movie is and I think the ppl who are praising it have a low bar in terms of quality. I re watched all 3 BHC movies before this and they all wipe the floor with this new one. 3 isn't great granted but it's marginally better than 4. Neither holds a candle to 1 or 2.

150 million and you couldn't see where a dime was spent. They reused the location from the Christmas movie for the impound. Dude from 3rd Rock from the sun is mis cast as is the daughter. She's flat as a board. Guzman was left to do his own thing. And it didn't work. Bro, you broke it down. 'Like the modern version of straight-to-video Betamax' ...is probably the coldest takedown of this movie anyone could do. 😅. -- I agree with you on all of this (although I have to rewatch III, because I remember that being really bad). In Axel F, we have the old music played again on top of lame-by-comparison scenes, bland daughter-who-doesn't-act-like-a-Foley, reasonably good-looking returning stars (especially Eddie) who are underutilized, no stakes, an obvious and unthreatening villain whose motivation is incomprehensible, low laughter, and many segments of the movie that felt like the scenes needed 5 more takes to get the timing right. It's not as bad a latequel as Indiana Jones. Axel is still Axel, for the most part, and not some somber washed-up bitter old man, but it's all a bit "meh".
The alphabet crimes in 2 were just appallingly dumb. Especially the light bulb moment when they "solved" that incredibly hard code lol. BUT the movie was STYLISH. It makes all the difference - guy behind the camera, guy in the production room, etc. Vanishing art.

The main problem 3 had was the Taggart replacement didn't gel well and the Big Wheel scene, no. 1 and 2 are still my favourites and 4 has that feel of both combined, leaning towards 2. It's been 30 years since the last one so there are obviously going to be changes with characters, etc. The main thing I wasn't impressed on in 4 was Kevin Bacon. I was expecting more but not great. Hard to beat the villain in the second one. I'd still recommend 4.

I get it, it's your opinion. Disagree 100%. You say 'lack of chemistry'...there was more chemistry than this than in part 3. What chemistry was in part 3? Sense of danger? Axel ran around an amusement park meeting folks like George Lucas. C'mon now. Again, i get that it's your opinion. But people are REACHING with this one. Beverly Hills Cop 4 was a fun romp and an entertaining sequel.

I'm a big Beverly Hills Cop fan. You make some good points and the movie was far from perfect, but saying this movie is worse than Part 3 is where you lose me. There was literally only one scene in Cop 3 where Eddie made even a half assed attempt to be Axel Foley and that was at the Award ceremony. There was also nothing in Cop 4 that approaches the awfulness of the carnival ride scene with the trapped kids. Anytime there is a sequel to a movie that's 30 or 40 years old, there is going to be a lot of nostalgia involved. I also watched the Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot awhile back and we also disagree on Brandon T Jackson. You could clearly understand why it was not picked up because other than the name, it was a very generic cop show.

Agree with everything you said 200%. Such a poor movie. I had low expectations after Coming 2 America (had to turn that one off after 30 minutes). At certain points the actors were just talking and I had no idea what they were saying as I didn't care about the plot whatsoever. They should've made the daughter the hostage, and Rosewood working with Axel to rescue her instead of Rosewood being the hostage. The final scene in the car with Taggart and Rosewood shows you how it could've been. Serge was totally wasted, like a lightweight Franck from "Father of the Bride". And couldn't Eddie bring back the Axel Foley laugh? I know he doesn't like it anymore but it is integral to the Axel character. In BHC2 they put Bogomil's daughter in the plot but in the background, that's where Axel's daughter belonged in this one. I had the same feeling the last Indiana Jones movie, just total boredom and disappointment. That one made me appreciate Crystal Skull, and this BHC movie makes me appreciate BHC3! I am the biggest fan of parts 1 and 2, and I guess I'll just continue to re-watch those.
Some things are just gone - forever. Roots rock reggae of the 1970s and early 1980s - you can get the best musicians in the world, the best production engineers, etc. plus the original (old) 1970s singers. But what you make just won't be as good even if every single element from the old days was brought back. The same applies to the entire vibe of the 1980s. It's just gone. I think Eddie wanted to make this movie but watched with high expectations from 1 and 2, it would always disappoint. I had low expectations and it wasn't too bad.

I enjoyed axel f. Some great parts where eddie feels just like foley again. The apartment scene was classic foley, just fooling those thugs lol. A lot of 3 feels too childish, but the ending shootout brings back some classic beverly hills cop humor! I’d say they both are the same rank for me, both have some fun humor, but bogged down by unneeded fluff. I would advise you to check out the beverly hills cop pilot tv episode. I only saw it yesterday, but was surprised how much i enjoyed it. Eddie murphy is firing on all cylinders with that pilot, reminded me of the classic beverly hills cop. He has a son in that, instead of a daughter, and he’s a cop too, and their chemistry together, especially when they pretend to be other people to blag someone, is spot on lol. Makes me wish we actually got a full show of that!
I will agree to disagree with you. Beverly Hills Cop 3 was garbage. There is a reason why part of the public including myself hates that movie. Beverly Hills Cop 4 was fun and hilarious. That said, you are entitled to your opinion.

Agreed. Did enjoy it for at least trying to be nostalgic with the original music without forcing the throwbacks down the audience’s throat, but it didn’t really gel with a 2024 movie. It wasn’t that funny, had the usual pointless CGI and I couldn’t stand the daughter. Reminded me a lot of the Indy 5 girl constantly berated our hero and putting him down. Every time she’s in it, the film just went to sleep. And the film was way too long.

The theme park ride rescue was my favourite part of 3. And even though it was downplayed I still him more as Axel in 3 than 4.

I will agree to disagree with you. Beverly Hills Cop 3 was garbage. There is a reason why part of the public including myself hates that movie. Beverly Hills Cop 4 was fun and hilarious. That said, you are entitled to your opinion.
I tried watching it and I just gave up so I feel a lot better watching the first one.
I loved it Big Time!! Funny!! Real Funny!! .. Best Eddie Murphy movie since Coming To America 2 .. The last 2 Eddie Murphy movies sucked big time .. The Christmas movie was real bad ... had to turn it off!! I like Beverly Hill Cop III (Watch it many times)n..

Agreed. Did enjoy it for at least trying to be nostalgic with the original music without forcing the throwbacks down the audience’s throat, but it didn’t really gel with a 2024 movie. It wasn’t that funny, had the usual pointless CGI and I couldn’t stand the daughter. Reminded me a lot of the Indy 5 girl constantly berated our hero and putting him down. Every time she’s in it, the film just went to sleep. And the film was way too long.

I ENJOYED BEVERLY HILLS COP AXEL F IT HAD ALLOT OF ACTION AND IT WAS NOSTALGIC BUT THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE WAS IT HAD NO FIST FIGHT'S AND AXEL DIDN'T RUN BECAUSE HE WAS TO OLD BUT THEY COULD OF HAD HIM RUN AND HAVE A RUNNING DOUBLE. TOM CRUISE IS A YEAR YOUNGER AND HE STILL MOVE'S REAL WELL. OTHER THAN THAT THE MOVIE WAS STILL GOOD AND THEY BROUGHT BACK AXEL'S OLD CHEVY.
It is NOT worse than 3. However, it’s not as good as 2. Of course, 1 is the best.

Couldn't agree more. It's one of the worst movies I ever watched. I don't get the mild criticism by the general public. Is it nostaligia or people got so dull by the trash moves we are bombarded with....
