As an Irishman myself, I'm so glad to see bill recognise our very own Tommy! He's one of the best irish comedians we have. To see my fav American comedian talk to my favourite Irish is just great!
Very rarely I've seen Bill this outgoing and easy going in a pod. Look at the Theo Von ep for bad chemistry, but these guys got on like a house on fire.
I feel like Tommy's too much of a romanticist for Bill to be putting up with on a regular basis 🤣🤣🤣 There's only so much listening to the supernatural/spiritual qualities of nature that someone as matter of fact as Bill is could be dealing with on a monthly schedule. LMAO
This hour is a rare gem, one of the most insightful, profound and still hilarious episode from Bill Burr and Tommy Tiernan. They have amazing chemistry.
Have to give it to bill burr he seems to mix in with everyone he had great convo with josh homme(qotsa) and some really good laughs in entertaining podcast
I found this awkward, clunky. They don't really get each other. They don't dovetail well. Bill is a bit nervous in parts and starts stumbling trying to find the right words. Tommy wasn't anxious but I felt Bill was.
Tommy Tiernan really is a national treasure for us Irish, not only is his stand-up fantastic but he is an absolute gifted, marvellous orator and storyteller. I was lucky enough to see him live at a festival in Waterford over the summer, it was in the middle of the afternoon, the sun was shining and everyone was sitting on the grass around the stage while he spoke. Not only did we laugh but when he was telling a story you could hear a pin drop, and you found yourself leaning forward as he drew you in. How lucky we are as a country to have a talent like him.
The irish are the best storytellers and talkers. Even if you're not mad on Tommy as a comedian, he does a show where he has guests, and he doesn't know who they are until they come out on stage. His ability to have a great conversation is amazing. Love Bill, great podcast. 🇮🇪 🇮🇪 🇮🇪
As an Englishman who grew up on the great Billy Connolly and then other stand ups and groups like The Goon Show, Tommy Cooper, Around The Horne, Steptoe and Son, and eventually Eddie Izzard and Bill Bailey, amongst so many others, Tommy Tiernan has always been my fave living comedian after Billy Connolly. He used to present the Stand Up show on late night BBC, and I would wait desperately for it. His specials are something else and I love whatever else I can find of him. To see him with my favourite American comic (in fact the only one who is genuinely great at this time, though Louis CK and Theo Von have a shout), I cannot express how delighted I am to see them both together. Tommy is one of Ireland's many great gifts to the world, and a constant reminder to me of the beauty of a culture that i am so ashamed our country did their best to erase. @ansionnachbeagrioga5260wouldn’t say he didn’t have the energy most of his performances you’d swear he was on cocaine he was that jumpy and lively but Tommy is what I term a localized comedian, most of his greatest sets are full of jokes most in the U.S wouldn’t get but the Irish and English would. Perfect example of this was one of his most famous sets in Ireland was then used in the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival where things were changed in some of the jokes and some left out entirely as it just wouldn’t land over there. It was still funny and he was well received but it was only half as funny as Tommy’s original unleashed set which is what made him a legend over here. In essence a lot of his jokes worked in the U.S but a lot of his best ones didn’t which made him a very good comedian over there but not the legend that he was here, maybe he wasn’t daring enough in the U.S who knows but lack of energy definitely wasn’t it in his prime at least 😅

Bit late to watching this but listened to it on Spotify the day it was uploaded - was just leaving the house for a week away at work and couldn't believe my luck ! My two favourite comedians coming together, just over an hour of pure gold (granted the limerick needed a bit/gallon of polish on it) with a beautiful dynamic of Bill, clearly beyond thrilled to be sitting with his friend and fellow comedian, Tommy seizing that opportunity to, almost undetected, reverse the role and take the reigns of the interview in the way he does so seemingly effortlessly - not a barrage of questions but a delicately directed, relaxed chat. I've been lucky enough to see Tommy live in my home town, I hope I can see Bill on stage at least once in my life. Thanks for the podcast/video, a fantastic hour of the finest chat and laughter that, as well as many others I'm sure, I'm very grateful for ! Edit - Also, even though the spelling should be pretty straightforward, it's awesome to know that Tommy and I have exactly the same intonation and rhythm when telling people how to spell Tiernan ! 😅
as an irishman, i dont understand how tommy can retell the Flight of the Earls so inaccurately haha. it had nothing to do with poets; it was the last gaelic lords of ireland, attempting to sail to spain in order to recruit an army and take back ireland from the english, with the help of the spanish. they just never ended up coming back, and the old gaelic order was finished. tommy saying the irish arent good architects when an irish architect designed the White House is also crazy
The best stories always have a bit of 'flair'... embellishments. That's what takes a good story from a person just telling it to someone being a seanchaí, a poet, an artist...an irish drunk even! Another Irish saying: ["Experience is the comb that life gives a bald man."]
Bill has a tremendous taste in comedy, he understands there is great talent outside of the US unlike alot of his American peers who think comedy only existed in the US
Bill and Tommy who I have listened to for 20 years. Then here they are together. A mistical gift for us mortals. This podcast was singularly the most interesting intense podcast I have ever listened to. And they were creatively buzzing. Tommy you must have Bill back to your shed emporium for Castro cigars. Seeing Tommy Tiernan at a small bar in Cork, I literally came out saying this was the closest to Billy Connelly there is. Despite being well known in Ireland, Tommy is world class.
What he said about the Flight of the Earls was completely wrong. In 1601, the British finally defeated the Gaelic kings of Ireland (there were many and they each ruled small parts of the country). Hugh O'Neill, who was the Earl of Tyrone (one of the most powerful remaining Gaelic families) left Ireland with his family aiming for Catholic Spain rather than living under British rule. It was significant because it marked the end of Gaelic run in Ireland. It had nothing to do with poets or artists.
@@philipdavid1053aye exactly, noticed that too. Was a very good conversation and Tommy’s obviously a curios person willing to follow many threads but his knowledge of the history was clearly lacking. I dunno to what extent it’s a kind of self(or sub)conscious effort to embody or describe an over-romantic Irish poeticism about our nature as a people
@@damien7784 Ye, my view of it was that he brought up a subject that he really wasn't familiar with at all and instead of admitting it, he tried to bluff his way out of it. He surely knew himself that what he was saying was nonsense.

[I wonder if Bill could handle the tranquility (with another man in the room). Alone or with Nia
I'm sure he'd be fine.] But Tommy's Irishness seems to hit Bill in just the right way.
"May the roof above us never fall in.
And may the friends gathered below it never fall out."
Another Irish saying:
["Experience is the comb that life gives a bald man."]
You just know they are going to break out the cigars immediately after that podcast 😂
❤😂
Bill has a tremendous taste in comedy, he understands there is great talent outside of the US unlike alot of his American peers who think comedy only existed in the US
Lol...no one thinks that.
Doesn't bashing "stupid Americans" ever get old.?
He gave Tommy more respect than any of the American comics he interacts with.
Why am I so pleased, that these two are friends?
Bill and Tommy who I have listened to for 20 years. Then here they are together. A mistical gift for us mortals. This podcast was singularly the most interesting intense podcast I have ever listened to. And they were creatively buzzing.
Tommy you must have Bill back to your shed emporium for Castro cigars. Bill get your ass over to misty Ireland.
Ol Billy fancy britches with your polo shirt 🤣🤣. Look like you're about to go down to country club and look for some new golfing shoes. 😂
Tommy and Bill were a gas combination. I would never have thought. Loved it👏🏻
'Oh man that'd be great, come down to the shed with me. From Raúl's personal stash!' What a line. I kinda forgot those two might have known each other from back in the day. That was a great hour of entertainment that I didn't want to end.
"As an old man said to me, 'There was spunk flying all over the place'" hahaha
Tommy Tiernan is an inspired choice as a guest. Thank you very much, Mr Burr 🙏
This should be a monthly thing Bill. It was a wonderful conversation ❤
A genuine joy to see these two men in one room.
Irish people are the best. As a Middle Eastern, the Irish are my favorite kind of white people
Why? I never been there but I hear it’s magical
@@LeMerchit's hard to explain here on this but it is magical here
Leprechauns and rainbows after every shower 😅😅🍀
Thanks! You're our least favourite kind of mammal
We weren't actually considered 'white' in the past..
We understand minorities, because we were minorities.
In spite of some of them passing as white and then treating other minorities lIke they'd been treated.
But hey- people are the same everywhere, so you gotta accept that there's the same percentage of assholes in every population...
Tommy Tiernan is far and away the best Irish comedian ever. This feels like a fever dream ! ❤
Dylan Moran
Holy cow, Getting Tommy Tiernan on your show is a big deal. 💪✊
Two of my favourite comedians seen Tommy last Year in Vicar Street Dublin Amazing nite nothing is held back the way it should be so funny start to finish 😂brilliant 👏 forget the critics we love it . I've watched Bill last couple of years on Social media absolutely hilarious even have the missus hooked everytime we have argument i take the knee 🤣 Best advice ever staying in the pocket bobbing and weaving 😉 Definitely be getting tickets to see Bill next time he's over 🇮🇪 💚
Bill and Tommy together this is gonna be Awsome ❤️
Diego Tiernan. You just know this is gonna be good 💚💚🇮🇪😂 Tommy's such a brilliantly descriptive comedian 🎉🎉
This was a treat. Love Tommy. Yes I'm Irish lol
Go see him in "Derry girls"
If you haven't already.
Id listen to the two lads every week. Brilliant the way Tommy has flipped this on Bill and is basically interviewing him.
When Tommy Tiernan interviewed Bill Burr on his own podcast. 😂😂😂😂
Billy Connelly is one of the greatest comedians, ever.
THE Greatest.
100 percent
It was nice hearing they were both fans of the Big Yin.😎
Seeing Tommy Tiernan at a small bar in Cork, I literally came out saying this was the closest to Billy Connelly there is. Despite being well known in Ireland, Tommy is world class.
Billy is the king for me.
Tommy takes over the interviewer role 😂
Amazing. Best conversation I've seen on a podcast in a long time. Two very talented comedians sharing great insights packed with humour.
Never thought I'd see tommy being interviewed by Bill and I'm here for it
Earls Of Poetry. Now that's a great name for an Irish hip hop outfit.
Earls of Rhyme
Earls of rhythm 😏
Finally ❤🍀these two guys are twisted geniuses my favourites 🎉
The chemistry bill had with tommy was brilliant. Why did he stop at 1 hour 😩. I could have listened to them all day. Love Bill as a comedian , and Tommy naturally funny guys .
Im a proud, irish man, 🇮🇪 thanks, Bill, for the podcast
I love the fact Bill tried his best to be the interviewer for so long , and eventually just succumbed to Tommy asking the questions and it was fantastic to see two friends just talking about comedy, Life, and every little thing in between.
Saw Tommy in Philly last night, Tremendous show 😁💚🍀
Tommy did a wonderful interview of Bill! 😂
My 2 favourite comedians ever, unexpected joy seeing this.
The Flight of the Earls was when the Ulster Irish chieftains O'Neill and O'Donnell fled went into exile prior to the plantation of Ireland
Don’t forget the poets too 😂
And they ended up in Italy, not France (maybe one of them stayed in France).
France too. I live in Galway and part of my family, the Kirwans, moved to France, with the money! Look up Kirwan Wine in France. That's us!
@@Hiram1000 So why arent we drinking it in ireland then?
@Shedi1210 we are. Its in any Supervalue in the country.
Never thought I'd see this pair up
