    case looks like V-Tech V770 from 2002. there are different options (D, K, L, S) that determine the side panel type, dual rear fan option or single large fan option, bezel lighting, et c.

      @RetroSuperhighway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info, so the side, front panel, etc were selected from a list of options depending on what the retailer wanted. That makes sense from all the very similar pictures I have seen where it is all correct except for just one part, the front panel for example.

    I have exactly the same case as your old one in the photos and weirdly, I've even put red led lights inside it!!
    I have updated the old hardware a bit from what I had originally circa 2005 (athlon xp 3200+ radeon 9800 pro etc) to a slightly later high end xp build out of used parts (e8500, hd 4890 etc).
    I kind of regret selling off the old parts a few years ago as they are turning into collectors items now but I still love the look of that case and the lights on the front etc.
    Back in the day when I first got it, it had some kind of plasma light tube thing inside that looked really cool but it didn't last that long.
    I've recently got myself a silver compaq crt monitor from 2004 which matches the case nicely makes me feel even more nostalgic!

      Thats awesome! I wonder how many of that original case they ever sold? Yours is only the 3rd I know of.

      @@RetroSuperhighwayI couldn't believe my eyes when you showed the photos of your old system! I clicked on your video because the thumbnail looked a bit like my pc!
      My case came from a small computer store which built custom pcs etc somehere in Essex in 2004/5. I think it was possibly Romford, not sure exactly. I was 17 at the time and it was a christmas present from my parents as I had lost my old pc which I built in some unfortunate circumstances.
      I've seen one case with the same bubble lights on the front and a lot of the same features but different side panel and power button/ front IO but with the same brushed aluminium and acrilic panels which seemed to be the same metal base chassis essentially but with variations on the plastic bits, like your new one tbh but that's the only other one close to it that I've seen in person.
      It's definitely a v770 as someone else said in the comments as that's what mine says on the front and that's all it says anywhere!
      I really hope that you find one and I feel bad that I have almost exactly your old set up and yeah I'd written the last comment before watching the next video where you showed the processor you chose for the build and it had to be a 3200+ of all things! 🤣 the exact processor I got with mine origionally!
      I might just upload a little video of my setup on my channel then you can have a look at it....

      Very close but the side window doesn't look the right shape. Thank you for the suggestion, I think a lot of these type of cases came out of the same factory for different manufacturers with very small differences between them.

    I *wish* PC cases had have remained black! Anymore they're all tempered glass on all sides. I've started scouring the web looking for older PC cases that have no glass at all and still have 5.25" bays for hot swappable SSDs. There's not much left! I did manage to get a silver and black one today for free, which was very nice and very unexpected. It has a date with a spray paint can, but then I know I can put it to good use! :)

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean, it took my a fair while to find a modern case that I liked with a 5.25 bay so that I could have in internal CD/DVD writer. In the end I ended up chaning back to my Define R2 as I preferred it to the new one!

      @@RetroSuperhighway Oh those are nice cases! I recently jumped at the chance to buy two Define XL R2s off Amazon. Used-- more expensive than they were new-- but I still wanted them. I was honestly a bit ticked off, because it turned out that by "used" they meant "clearly dropped," but it was nothing a little superglue and pop riveting couldn't fix. Their fasteners were weak, but everything else was built like a tank, so they ended up fine in the end.

    I have this exact case,had it from new early 2000s,contains a 2016 era build now, good solid case came with led blue side fan from new and i have a slide in hdd bay for four drives above the case speaker.
    I broke my top window very similar but i repaired it and painted it matt black with the case black satin finish.

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice! This one had an LED fan in the side window when I got it too. But it just seemed to block the view of the other hardware so I decided to get rid of it! Any idea who the original manufacturer or model was?

    • @mwarnes389
      @mwarnes389 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Retro Superhighway i'll have a close look around the panels to see if i can find one, originally came from one of those small local pc shops way back.

    I've been looking for a case to complete my xp build. I want something era appropriate, but I have no idea where to look. Ebay hasn't been that helpful.
    Any suggestions?

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      eBay is all I have used for this so if that is not good for you, maybe a local car boot sale or yard sale? Facebook marketplace perhaps? If you stick with eBay, it took over a year for that case to come up on eBay UK so you'll have to keep on checking.

    There was a case brand called iCute, produced similar designs for cheap.
    (but their name only existed on the outer box)

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just had a quick google of iCute and so many memories came back of the PC case with the massive 'fan' sticking through the front it! You are right that it loooks like they do a couple of models with similar fronts such as the 8310SL, but the sides on them are not quite the same, a bit like the Silver Wizard 2. This also led me to looking at the Raidmax cases, such as the 268WSP, but it is the same story. Thanks for the tip, it's more info for me to look through.
