    Good to see you back. Nice Job. I get parts and systems like that also, same process sometimes I use soap and water and let everything dry for a few days. if you take your time and are careful everything uasually come out OK. Thanks for the Video

      Do you use distilled water or anything special like that? I've never tied it because of the things I have read online about it leaving behind mineral deposits that can be bad for the PCBs, no idea if that is true though. I should try it on some scrap hardware sometime, it would be cheaper than using all the IPA!

      Hmmm, going to have to try it next time I have some dirty parts to clean. Thanks!

    The way you cleaned the motherboard is how I clean original Xbox motherboards. Some of them are so caked in dust and dead bugs, there's no other way you can thoroughly clean them. However, I start by brushing all the loose dust and debris with a paintbrush, then submerge in IPA.

      I like using a brush for dry debris, unfortunately this was all sticky so a brush didn't make much difference.

    Great video, sometimes old hardware needs a deep cleaning

    • @RetroSuperhighway

      Yep, while the parts are not rare or special, it is always nice to keep the old hardware going.

      @@Fahrenheit38 I meant special in terms of rarity or uniqueness of the parts, but you are right, rare or not, I'm sure all those parts were special to someone.

    I like to use the lemon scented wipes for the really dirty, smelly parts.

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good idea! Do the scented wipes leave any residue behind that would be sticky to dirt in the future?

    • @maladamedialabs4214
      @maladamedialabs4214 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSuperhighway No. The lemony smell goes away pretty quickly and it really helps to get rid of cigarette or vaping stink.

      @@RetroSuperhighway Depends on the tissues about the residue. Some do and some don't. The easiest way to know if they are safe to use is to wipe your hands with one,if it feels soapy and sticky on your hands then they're not suitable but if it feels squeaky clean just like you would wash your hands with normal water then they're good to use

    Great video. Nice that the parts(except the CD ROM) got a good clean and were working and saved for a later use. What was the case you were trying to get. Like to see a review of it and the a build with that case.

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was pretty dirty, I mean I've had dirtier hardware, but still. My sense of smell isn't the greatest either, so if I could smell it bad, it must have been really bad!

    I’ve never seen someone take off a socket A cooler like that before. That is NOT how you do that 😩

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it wasn't how I'd normally do it, but that thing was baked on there, as shown later in the video when the pressure washer wouldn't shift the thermal compund. Indeally I'd have run the system first to soften it up, but that wasn't possible this time.

    Налицо серьёзная недоработка. У жёсткого диска нужно открутить печатную плату, и спиртом отмыть почерневшую контактную группу. И будет счастье

    vapes dont leave a residue or a smell... actual tabacco products do... especially with tar in it.

    • @RetroSuperhighway
      @RetroSuperhighway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't know that, thanks for the tip. Non smoking household here so I'm well out of my depth on knowledge of that.

    • @therealericjackdaniels
      @therealericjackdaniels 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bull shit they don't. I used to share a yard truck with a guy that sat in it and vaped all day long.
      It took all night to air it out to tolerance and there absolutely was a film on everything.
      Nothing like tobacco but my personal experience has to call BS on your statement about vaping though.
