I agree, and as a Catholic myself it breaks my heart to see these things happen all over the world. I would say in defense though, that events of abuse seem to be viewed much differently when it is caused by a Catholic priest than it is for something like a public school teacher for example. Even though children are many times more likely to be sexually or physically abused by school teachers than by Catholic priests, you don't see nearly the same outcry against public schooling as you see against Catholicism. People look at an instance of abuse by a teacher and blame it on the teacher, but see an instance of abuse by a priest and blame it on Catholicism. I'm not trying to defend priests who commit these types of heinous acts, I just feel saddened by the whole situation
"From our point of view, of course we have to defend the priest." Everything that is wrong with so many professions distilled into one sentence. I don't get how none of them stop to realize they just make themselves look equally guilty instead of making the accused/their profession innocent.
I think any institution would collapse if it did not protect its own members, especially from allegations from 30 years ago that have no evidence. if our collective society deemed that kind of testimony legal and authoritative, it would be too simple to destroy anything and anyone.

The fact that the abuse was written off as consensual because she was already an adult when it happened is sickening-- there really needs to be like, an entire new branch of law enforcement for sexual abuse crimes perpetrated by religious organizations.
It was consensual because 1, she was an adult that could've said NO, she didn't. 2, She did not report it or even consider it an assault until decades after. @Tyrese Campbell You clearly didn’t watch the video. @@sasquatchdonut2674 being acquitted and being innocent are two different things. Of people that come forward with abuse only a slim number actually find justice due to the nature of the crime (power dynamics, time elapsed to come forward). Can you name a single case where the church found its clergy guilty prior to a public investigation by authorities, held them accountable, and compensated the victim? No, because their interests are to protect the institution, not their parishioners-aka damage control. This is common sense. You can’t expect the guilty to earnestly evaluate themselves and hold themselves accountable.
Aside from the atrocities that have gone almost all but noticed in the Catholic Church community. it is inspiring hearing from an abuse victim from across the world, while the acts perpetrated were awful the loss of self and severe pain mentally really brought me to tears as it doesn’t matter what country you live in or what religion you practice. I highly encourage for everyone visiting Rwanda to see the memorial. Forgiving is not the same as forgetting. As far as the old lady is concerned the Catholic church should pay her more than the $77,000 she is asking for that sick priest ruining her life.
How dare they not offer an apology, care they not?! All I can say to Mrs Harumi Suzuki if she ever reads this, is that that man will receive the punishment due, even if you can't settle with the church for an apology, he is already being punished, for in this life he harmed you, and so I am convinced that God is allowing harm upon him in return. You can do one of three things, 1.ask God to give him his due punishment, or 2. believe in faith that through his dementia he is already being punished as I do and last but not least, 3. you can start a revolt against this church on the basis of not giving you at the very least, an apology. It is important, Madam Suzuki, that you forgive this man, the same way Jesus has forgiven you of your sins, he will get his due. Think of this, would you like for that man to have the chance to enter heaven if he is apologetic? If not, why should Jesus/God allow you into heaven, after all the wrong you may have committed. If he is not resentful, God will know, and I would wager with my limited knowledge, that he would not be welcomed if he did not have a resentful heart. I highly doubt, any priest who does these things will get off lightly. They will be tormented day in and day out, at least at some point in life, especially if they think they have any chance of making it to heaven. Continue in Faith dear Suzuki, I urge you, reinstate your case with the will of Jesus at the forefront of your mind ask it of him first to the Father, and if Jesus the Son and the Father God almighty allow it, move with your case, and see where the Holy spirit leads you, maybe your purpose is to scourge this sect of Catholicism from Japan. Maybe they ARE bad for your country, and if So, ask of it in the name of the Son, the Father and the Holy spirit, to lead you and guide and protect you * Amen, may your story have an ending which is the will of the above. それはあなたのような人々に対する私の崇高な義務です

It is widespread in all religious and even non-religious institution. The main problem is the institution/organization want to keep their "pure" image in front of the people so most of them try to defend their "purity" by blaming it on the victim.
It's widespread in religions with patriarchal dominance. The Catholic Church is often singled out due to the sheer power they had over the world for centuries.

I feel so bad for them, Japan is an incredibly patriarchal society--mix that with the Catholic Church and you have religious and legislative/judicial systems that refuse to listen to victims. They'll always come up with a 1000 excuses. It's always something like "oh she just want money" "oh if it was so bad then why didn't she say something then?" Where is your empathy? Try to listen to the survivors ffs.
I know! We need to do away with evidence. It's so white supremacists. Non white women are the most honorable beings on the planet throughout history and should never be asked to back up their claims. Just do what they say bigots!
Japan is patriarchal? lol Survey shows Japanese women have the highest percentage of control over their husbands' income in the world. I live in Japan, and most Japanese men live their lives being careful with women. So nowadays, there are more and more herbivore men in Japan who are afraid of women and live alone. An TH-camr, That Japanese man Yuta conducted a survey on his video in Japan and many Japanese women feel they are treated more privileged than men. And as is the case in custody disputes, no matter how much fault there is on the woman's side, in Japan, the woman's side has a 90% or greater chance of getting custody. And next year, a system will begin to give priority to female students at Japanese universities.
As a faithful Catholic, it is infuriating to see these men grieve the heart of God and do such grave damage to one of his precious children. Is is so antithetical to the heart and teaching of Christ, and the handling of the case is horrifying. I pray that this women, whose dignity is her God given right, obtains the justice and healing she needs.
It's disheartening when someone in a position of moral authority, like a priest, appears indifferent or unwilling to acknowledge past wrongs. Empathy and accountability are essential traits, especially for those guiding others spiritually and morally. When individuals fail to recognize the importance of acknowledging and apologizing for past harm, it undermines trust and hampers the healing process. Encouraging leaders to reflect on their actions and hold themselves accountable can help promote empathy and understanding within communities.
It happens in all organizations secular or religious, cover ups, settlements, NDAs. The Catholic Church is singled out because it operates as a single denomination under a central authority. There’s are millions upon millions of other churches and abuses have happened there just as well but they are treated as independent cases. It’s not a Catholic thing, religious, thing, secular or non secular it’s just deviant human behavior and they walk among us everywhere and all walks of life.
Nuh-uh. How many other organizations mandate that their personnel go against natural human instinct and live celibate lives? How many organizations instill a sense of shame and disgust in people whose natural sexual orientation is homosexual, arguably forcing them to think they can repress their sexuality by becoming priests and yet allow them to be in charge of young boys? How many other organizations deny women from taking up positions of power so there is at least some check and balance against old boys' clubs comprising priests defending fellow priests?

There is nothing in the Bible that says anyone, man or woman has to be celibate. The Catholic church is wrong, let them marry, let them have children. That poor lady.
Celibacy is not a doctrine, try again. The RCC doesn't say that it's requirement of celibacy will never and can never change. Celibacy is a gift from God, even St. Paul recommends celibacy for ministerial life
@@Mark-bd5ci it's not a recommendation per say, more like a case by case. Even Paul wrote in 1 Cor 7:9 "But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." Celibacy is for when someone truly believes in strong relationship with God whether in ministry or not. If that man can't control his lustful desires, he's better off getting married and still can maintain relationship with God. Like I said, it's a case by case.
Then in the footsteps of these ˹prophets˺, We sent Our messengers, and ˹after them˺ We sent Jesus, son of Mary, and granted him the Gospel, and instilled compassion and mercy into the hearts of his followers.

The fact that the abuse was written off as consensual because she was already an adult when it happened is sickening-- there really needs to be like, an entire new branch of law enforcement for sexual abuse crimes perpetrated by religious organizations.
It was consensual because
1, she was an adult that could've said NO, she didn't.
2, She did not report it or even consider it an assault until decades after.
She's just a failure now looking for someone to blame for her inadequacies in life.
@@mljh11 Child abuse happens at similar levels in other religious organisations. Hell, all organizations can experience this. I don't know why people don't want to accept this.
@@mljh11 it's not celibacy that is issue, you're barking up the wrong tree. Celibacy doesn't mean more sexual abuse. Predators can use the RCC or any religious organisation for cover.
@@Mark-bd5ci In the case of the Catholic Church SA, I think it’s a bit of both. A bit off topic here, but they were also one of the last churches to issue an apology to residential school survivors, and that was only after some serious political pressure was applied after finding the first 215 unmarked graves at a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. They have either destroyed or taken a lot of school records when the Truth and Reconciliation report was being released in public from Canada back to the Vatican libraries to cover their tracks-absolutely twisted minds.

"Japan’s education ministry revealed on Tuesday that a total of 200 teachers at public schools (fiscal year 2020) were subjected to disciplinary action for sexual abuse.
Although the annual figure fell from 273 in fiscal 2019, the second largest on record, the number has stayed above 200 for the eighth straight year."
The fact there were 16 cases in 60 years is not surprising. Use some critical thinking.
It’s Vice, what do you expect…
It's shameful. An individual's crimes implicated on the whole church. 90% of the Church are not priests. And again, at least 0.25% committed sexual / corruption crimes. It's not the "CHURCH" that commit the crimes but CLERICS. CLERICS!!
This is really sad. The Catholic Church needs to give up its billions of dollars, reform to a modest institution all the way to Vatican City, and continue to legally right past wrongs. This is just ridiculous. Men within religious institutions need to be highly monitored, regulated, and scrutinized. The only way to do that, is to even out female representation within religion. This is just absolutely ridiculous.
She said she thought she was a bad person. Just like to say we are all bad people that's the fundamental of the gospel. It's only threw Jesus paying our debt that we are saved. I hope the Catholic church sort this problem out no one is called to not be married or into celibacy there just creating monsters 😢.
We're better off without religions. Living by a book written 2000 years ago..
These books are also the roadmap for ancient civilization. Our lodestone to the natural order, as religion is often a simple explanation and assumption of how things came to be, how they were, and how their society developed. Almost, philosophical in nature. It can’t be denied that there are good messages to do with religion. Loving your neighbor as yourself. Do unto others what you’d want done to you. These are all very healthy messages for society. What is the deterrence?

I've read stories about this happening in schools. In schools.
Catholic church and sexual abuse are two t hings that are synonymous. I'd say at this point but we were making jokes on it back in the early 2010s when I was in primary school.

I like how japan never let Christianity cult takeover their country, and they have Preseved their dharmik shintoist and Buddhist culture very well !
Maybe they were right back in the day haha
What they did in medieval Japan to Portuguese missionaries and even their own Japanese fellow country men/women who refused to denounce their faith was barbaric and not commendable. You can’t really say you preserved anything when you murdered people to prevent change..Spanish inquisition and such things were truly horrific

2:00 I feel really bad for that woman and it's very painful how Catholicism or any brandy of Christianity is used to abuse others or to get away with the abuse. I'm not Catholic, I grew up in and still go to a United Church of Christ church, but I have messy feelings about the abuse scandal too, and the Catholics and I are all Christian. The abuse needs to be handled and ended. Victims are the ones who should be protected.
Commendable courage of the Nun who calls out the Priest's wrongful and insensitive dismissive statements, while the nun does not smear the office of the Priesthood and the Priest himself.
Let us pray for one another to have the same courage and humility, bringing out Justice to the Victims does not disprove that the Catholic Church is the One True Church instituted by Christ Himself. It brings healing and transformation to both the victim and perpetrator and around them.
Special prayers also for the Bishop not to be timid; intentionally or unconsciously.
What another scandal involving the Catholic Church?😂😂😂 isfthe baby Jesus wasn’t involved this cult would have been wiped off this earth years ago
they heard the phrase, "While in Rome" and took it seriously.

As a religious Catholic women, I’m not defending the priest, sorry, but I know my LORD and he would definitely not allow this abuse pass by. I’m truly sorry for this woman to have had such a terrible experience with a priest, she should get justice or even a compensation from it. Not priests trying to defend themselves when they themselves don’t know the truth. God is the God of justice love, and all things good imagine how God would feel or think to see his daughter had the worst experience with a priest who raped her. Mind you in the Bible God was never for rape, he despised it had said in exodus to compensate for it.
Jesus also said to love each other/ or love your neighbour as yourself how is raping a women loving your neighbour? Or even love your enemy, do good by them. Whether she speaks the truth or not that’s up to God to know.
Anyway, God knows everything sooner or later he’ll serve justice in his way.
Catholic Church do better! We represent Christ and we must obey God’s commandments, love your neighbour! Do not be bribed especially when proverbs says that even the righteous man can turn wicked from a bribe.
Is "the scandal" a sex abuse scandal? Do I even need to ask?
I'm a Catholic and I just finished watching a documentary about the scandal around Hillsong Church. Then, I saw this case. Catholic Church had a long history of Child abuse but the only thing I can say is, do not blindly follow your religious leader. Your religious leader is just human too. They are sinner, same as us. The only thing that you have to believe in is your own God and faith. Whatever religion you choose, it is just a representation of how you want to worship your God.
It's something that I struggled with in Catholicism. I didn't just struggle to know that the Churvh had abusive priests, I was so disgusted to know that the entire church hieracrhy have repeatedly helped these people escape from the law, which often lead to them abusing more people in different areas. I think although other denominations have had abuse scandals, the Catholic church really deserve the repuation they have becauee of all they did to help the abusers. I think Episcopalianism or Anglicanism really is a better choice than Catholicism. It is similar religiously, but not tainted by the same efforts to defend abuse. it isn't always easy to change churches though, i know
@@icuigloo I don’t think I need to change Church just to find the better one or the one with less sin. It’s just about preference. I like how structured Catholic is and how everyone sing the hymns and how we pray. So, I don’t see the necessity to change church. The one that I worship is God not the Priest or the Church.
@@TheFlor88girl that's fair. i felt the need to change but it's understandable that lots of people are committed to their church

11:04 ‘We must never excuse ourselves by saying “that happened a long time ago”
Yes, no matter how long ago it happened, it happened. The priest, Shiro Komatsu’s comment, ‘it happened a long time ago so it is what it is’ is as irresponsible and disgusting as the right wing Japanese government’s statement on sex slaves exploited by the Japanese army during Japanese Imperialism era across East Asia. I heard Japan is dominantly right wing and still very patriarchal but it is just so appalling to see a religious priest defend the perpetrator’s right over the victim’s. What, because he has dementia..? There’s no boundary when it comes to victims of sexual abuse. I sincerely hope Harumi and all the remaining victims of sex slaves get their well-deserved apologies from these monsters.
Catholic?damn....I'm not even suprised
Of course it’s a catholic priest
Remember Roman Catholicism in 1549 on Japanese soil which was originally brought to Japan by the Jesuit FRANCIS XAVIER was completely unacceptable. Catholicism on 16th century Japan by the European Jesuits did cause sexual abuses and scandals on Japanese Catholics on the island of Kyushu before the Japanese unifier Toyotomi Hideyoshi had outlawed Catholicism in 1587 and for the next 50 years Roman Catholicism (Christianity) was going to be completely eliminated by the Tokugawa Shogunate which saved Japan’s future for over 200 years without European Colonial Powers and without the Corruption of Roman Catholicism! And today Roman Catholicism with sexual abuses and Scandals is unacceptable in everybody’s life, luckily I’m not a Catholic!

As for monasticism, they made it up-We never ordained it for them-only seeking to please Allah, yet they did not ˹even˺ observe it strictly. So We rewarded those of them who were faithful.
