    Most likely all just a cost saving measure. I noticed quite a while ago now that the edt990 and edt770 pads are now also slightly different and are all now made in the Republic of China instead of the European Union. It says on the label.

      Ah... Those are pretty rare - I think we probably only made 15 or 20 pairs with the passive filter before we stopped doing it due the the cost/time involved

    @Custom Cans btw, you can use dt1990 / 1770 fixing ring on dt770, I have it on mine for few years now, mainly because of that easier pad exchange, and that ring gives few more mm depth if you need it. But mine are way more modified from stock, v1 of your damping kit, leather headband strap for more comfort (my idea), some felt inside and on driver side to tune the highs a bit, removed inner ring with felt to make them sound more spacious and bigger pads to have more room for ear. I don't know how they sounded stock, but to me they sound bit more relaxed, more spacious, details are still there (I think 🤔), and that leather strap makes them more comfy because of more contact point on the top of the head.
    If you want I can provide details to what I have done to them, so that you can test them to see how they measure with those mods.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that is a really good idea.

    • @matija656
      @matija656 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here are the details.
      In the zip file are pictures of my headphones and stuff i used to modified then - file.lu/d/tjN
      Inside I have v1 kit for damping, and 2 mm thick foam disk. Since I have removed stock plastic ring with felt, driver has more "air" and space which made bass little bit more boomy (I think), so I added that foam disk to reduce amount of free space inside the cup, and also foam helps with sound bouncing back from the cup into the ear, absorbing it in some way. Bass ports on the cups have not been altered in any way.
      On the driver side with stock foam disk, I have added shelf liner and felt disk (I used cloth for cleaning glasses). Shelf liner should act as wave guide and absorb some frequencies, cloth is also there to smooth out the sound a bit.
      For the pads, I use brainwavz xl hybrid pads, which have added felt in the back to make them angled.
      Headband is some knockoff china cover from ebay with removed foam (to make more room for leather strap), and leather strap which is secured to stock plastic adjusters. More details for strap mod can be found here - www.head-fi.org/threads/beyerdynamic-dt-series-comfort-strap-mod-and-dt770-sound-mod.879265/
      That's all I have done to them, my main focus now it's to find some 3d model for snap-on or 2 piece ring, which will allow more secure and better fitment of 110mm size pads, because now my xl pads are on them with some double sided tape (since the cups are made for 100 mm pads). Idea for ring is something like this - www.thingiverse.com/thing:4757208 - but with bigger diameter for 110mm pads and less depth.
      Hope that this will help :)

      @matija656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZoneXV Nice 🙂
      Yeah, rings fit on them perfectly, don't know why they don't include them on latest revision of dt770, because the clips are same size and on same positions, as on the original ring.
      And that extra lip for pad makes them look nicer when the pad is on.

If you would be kind enough to suggest what to get as my next pair of headphones, I would very much appreciate it. I'm thinking the Sundara's or HD600's but I'm not 100% sure yet.

    Would be interesting to see whether or not they improved the strength of the little plastic bits that are on the sliding mechanism of the headband, as that's been the biggest problem with their headphones IMO when it comes to parts breaking.
    I dropped my 1990s once onto carpet and a tiny chunk of that piece snapped right off. It hasn't affected the sliding mechanism at all, but now that's a point of failure to look out for.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @wijtweeun
    @wijtweeun 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I also bought a new one a while back, but there is one thing that really bums me out, and that is the cord is so stiff. I spend a lot of time in bed due to my serious car accident, and the cord won't slide. I think the cord will break quickly on either side because you are constantly pulling on the cord. I can install a new cable, but then I get the same one.

    one question pls. do you know how to disassembly the earcups of the DT880/990 "Edition"?
    They have somehow a cup in the cup with a single 20mm hole in the mid, so the EDITIONs are by far not that open like the PRO Versions and the Soundstage of the Editions is much worse than the Pro Versions.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know :) - the box normally has a label on it but if you don't have the box, the newer drivers have a date printed on them but the drivers could have been made long before the headphones. You can get some clues as they change things like the font and logo, the way the headband cable goes into the earcup , how the cable attaches and things between generations. Here in the office, we sometimes judge send ins by how brown and smelly the pads are :)
