    Switched from AKG's to the 770 and a pair of the 990's 250 ohm versions, absolutely love the sound and are so comfortable I could wear them all day.

    I can (kind of) confirm what you're saying at 5:28, and it really surprised me: I have been using the DT 880 Edition 600 Ohms for many years, and needed to get some easier to drive closed-backs. So I ordered several models, including some models known for a natural or flat response (AKG K-361, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro), the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms, some cheaper knockoffs of them (Superlux HD 660 Pro 150 Ohms, the t.bone HD 815), and two more cans. And the DT 770 Pro sounded much more similar to my DT 880 Edition than to any of the other closed-backs. And that's what I was looking for, so I kept them. Really the same overall balance of bass, mids and treble, with the DT 880 Edition sounding a little clearer and flatter in the mids. And both the high-impedance DT 880 Edition and the 80 Ohms version of the DT 770 Pro have a little less energy in the treble compared to the other impedance variants.
    Also, I can confirm what you say at 8:15: I once ordered non-original earpads for my DT 880. I believe they were advertized as compatible with the 770, 880 and 990. They made the upper bass bloated and the mids really buried. Beyerdynamic tune their sound a lot with the earpads, so you should only get original ones, ore ones that are specifically tuned if you want to change the sound a bit.

    This is just what I was looking for, I have 80ohm DT770's at the moment and I love them. I thought about buying 250ohm DT990's as well since it could be even more suitable for music production :) Thank you a lot for this video!

      Are 770 good for rock, metal music?

    • @DJSparkyPlug
      @DJSparkyPlug 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GundamGunpla I think they are really good for metal and rock. However I got my DT990's and I prefer them slightly more. But go for DT770 if you have to be in noisy environment. If you can listen music in pretty quiet room I think DT990 is the way to go :)

    • @GundamGunpla

      @@DJSparkyPlug Recently I thought a lot and however I need version 770 because it is a closed model. The current situation prompts me towards DT 770 Pro. However, only what worries me that 770 are supposedly strongly bass? Such a bass conquer will not be a health problem? Many people praise models 770, 880 and 990 :)
      There would also be a problem which version to choose Ohm? 32/80/250?
      The only problem to stay. What to give you to Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO

    • @DJSparkyPlug
      @DJSparkyPlug 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GundamGunpla The frequency response is slightly v-shaped so they boost bass and high frequencies a bit but I don't think the bass is too strong. It's pretty balanced in my opinion actually. I'm 100% sure you won't get any health problems from these headphones. Also Ohm version depends on what you use to drive these headphones. I'd say if you have audio interface get 250 ohm or 80 ohm. If you use pc motherboard/laptop output then 80 ohm. I would get 32 ohm only if you gonna use it with only your mobile phone. Hope this helped a bit. There are also many youtube videos about this topic ^^

      Only last question if possible. What DAC can you recommend slightly to buy for Beyerdynamic DT770 pro or Beyerdynamic DT880 pro?

    Totally agree. I use the 770/80 for Audio-Projects, the 990/250 for pleasure or Monitors for Videoshots outside. Afterall I find them so easy and comfortly to wear for hours every day, that I changed my headset for making phonecalls to an MMX300. Owning a pair of 770s, the pretty mich only issue i had with them was the non-removable cable, since my cat killed my cable after 3 or 4 years. And because i had no more warranty, i had to fix it myself and i mist say: Soldering a wire to the driver is a really weird feeling. But because i had tonsolder anyways, i modded mine to fit a mini xlr socket (like AKG headphones did), so now i have a detachable cable, which is a REALLY nice upgrade. I can change my cable length from 1.5 to 3m depending on where i use them

      Yes agreed (audio engineering for 38 years)
      770 for tracking and obviously for talent because of bleed, the vocalists mic will pickup and track the bleed
      990 for mixing and mastering along with monitors
      I go back and forth between my 990s and my Genelec near fields
      Another nice feature with the 990s is for Electronic Drum kits when playing along with a reference track as opposed to trying to mix it all in the can, that can be hard for the talent to differentiate there own module sound from the reference tune
      So they can hear my Genelecs and their kits with the 990s and the spacial difference is great for instruction and learning pre recorded bits from outside sources

  • @LauriHuu

    Apart from the obvious cable "issue", one thing to keep in mind is that the clips above both cups, that the headband slides through, is prone to break over time. Luckily they are replaceable like everything else but it's one thing to keep in mind and not panic about once it happens, cos it will happen sooner or later. I don't think any less about the cans because of that, mind you.
    Currently rocking 770 Pros 80 Ohm, have been for the last 4 years or so and looking into 990s to go with them.

    • @paulwoaert

      @@paulwoaert Based on user experience, as they did for me, maybe due to poor handling, by me or the previous owner. Also have heard the same happen to other users, not everyone.
      Maybe I should have phrased it as "may" happen, rather than will. My bad for that. Still, it is a weak(ish) point in the build and just meant to point it out, kot shit on the Beyers. They are my favorite cans after all and I didn't mind paying a few euros for new parts.

    Very nice review! I am only a simple and humble home music listener and I already have a Shure SHR840 and the Sennheiser HD58X, but i will get a Bayerdynamic headphones as well - just for the thrill! And especially for your point 10/10. Probably the 770s, just because from the sample sounds comparisons onlinei get the feeling that they possess that lushness and thickness of the sound. I like the open headphones otherwise, but it just seems that the closed ones possess that a bit more.

    I feel like most of these reviews don't get to the bottom of things.
    1. The size adjustment is amazing. It feels seemless. No steps with a comfy level which is unreachable cause it is inbetween. Those will sit perfectly.
    2. I can NOT at all recommend the 770. Why? Its accoustic is a catastrophe and I'll tell you why. Its bass is a bit dull but is meant to be stronger. It doesn't sound bad but for anyone who is looking for a crystal clear bass will not be at the right address.
    Now the real problem: The 770 is isolated WAY too much. When there is no audio playing you will hear your heart beating, your blood flowing and bony sounds from your neck. To me that is unbearable. No reviewer ever says that. Why? It is isolated so much that you feel like you have pressure on your ears. Similar to this feeling, everything going on in your head will be much louder. Also including your own voice. Playing a video game and talking to friends for example will be very uncomfortable.
    Buy the 990 or the 880. Most people will NOT like the 770 over these two. If you wanna have extreme isolation which ensures that someone talking next to you will be unheard should pick the 770. Also pick the 770 when you like internal body sounds. Not preferable for ordinary music listeners, gamers or generally pc users. You can e.g. use them when working as a construction worker but wanting to listen to music while doing so.

    I have a question for you guys. For my new digital piano (a Roland HP-704), I am considering to buy Beyerdynamic DT-770 headphones. So far I have understood that, in principle, the 32 Ohms version of this headphone should suffice. But I have also heard that in general the sound on 250 Ohms headphones might be better if you use a headphone amplifier. So what should I do? Just buy the 32 Ohms headphones or buy the 250 Ohms headphones along with a headphone amplifier? (And if so, which headphones amplifier?)

    • @credencefaith

You have to get used to them, though, especially for the sudden lack of a "hifi" sound :)

    Yeah, i wasn't too sure if the ear pads for my new dt770 was different from my 1 year old dt990, the dt990 feels bigger around the ear but that's probably because the ear pads are rundown. Is burning in headphones a necessary thing to do? i just got the dt770 today.

      @@ON760 I'm using an ifi hip dac! Now to attach it to a phone case, all you need is something like double sided silicone pads! And attach them to the back of the amp and then put it nice and tight on the case. Now in the package you get a cable included, obviously:) but I recommend getting the special ifi OTG cable, because it's a better quality cable, (it's yellow ish!)
      Btw: You won't be disappointed with the sound of the dt770's 80 ohm, I am really happy with mine:) Note that you have to burn them in, and that can take some time, it took me around 1 week.

      As the only one reference I won't recommend them to you, but if you can't buy anything else (or better), remember that they have an artificial bass boost; the sound is fun because they have coloured the frequencies. By the way, If you open them you will discover that they are not open, they are semi open. Finally two pieces of advise, the plastic joint breaks a lot, but you can print them downloading the model, your cable will break too, try to mod them, there are some videos in youtube like this: th-cam.com/video/woSGEGkn_XI/w-d-xo.html

      @@brodiebrazil Great video! Can you help a bit? im confused between 80 and 250 ohm versions. I have a Motu M4 interface which claims to have above average gain to push the headphones but still less than your amp for sure. Is the Motu gain going to be enough to deliver also the quality of the 250 ohms or will deliver only enough volume? I even see people using the 250s with focusrite 2i2 which has less gain and they are happy but I havent got if there is any other element required to the headphone amp to deliver volume plus quality sound...
      Last, if i end up with the 80 ohms version whats gonna be the difference in sound? More narrow or missing the sound stage for example?
      Thanks again!

    • @JeradBenge
      @JeradBenge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@relax261085 The Motu M4 should power them just fine. The difference between the impedances is how tightly the voice coil is wound, which unsurprisingly leads to tighter sound coming out of them. You get more range of attenuation, meaning finer adjustments can be made on your end, and a wider dynamic range in experience. The downside is that you'll never be able to power them off of an iPhone to dance down the aisles of a grocery store because they need a lot of current to drive them.

    Ive had several other studio guys listen to my tracks on their monitors and cans to verify.
    The Sennheisers do a better job, i will say that the DT-770's have a more open mid frequency range than the 280's but thats it, the bass boost is a deal breaker for me, had i used them on my last few tracks the bass would be way too low in the mix and for that reason I will be selling them. or just using them for tracking, but certainly not mixing.

    Hmm...'sweating a little bit, or your skin's oily a little bit". This is just why you don't want velour pads. Comfy and classy when new, but in long term regular use, they become very unhygienic - or if you prevent this by regularly cleaning them, the quality goes down hill fast, and you'll want to replace them. I had this issue with AKG K712's. Finally swapped the pads for sim leather, and not only are they even more comfortable, cleaning them is a non-issue. Just my opinion from experience. Sup-2-u.
