8:55 of course it does have portable D cell battery capabilities, but because of the amount of technologies programmed in any amount of power, it requires this drains those batteries easily so I recommend only using AC to DC power
@abytc2023 Ah gotcha, scratch pad setting 72 does this I believe. I think I will stick to using the BPM button. Many many thanks for your info very helpful, I gotta print off a copy of the instruction manual from the pdf on the net. Once again thanks a lot❤

Is it true it won’t accept midi in CC via DIN to control it with external gear? Can you use it as a controller? What about Digitakt or Octatrack, do you know if these can send the proper midi CC values to externally program a sequence, can you map using the midi specs in the manual? Thanks, I ordered one. Have you tried the external audio syncing function? How well does it work?✌️🎶🎹
Copy/paste vintage synth explorer... "Basic MIDI-clock sync and data dumping is implemented in both models, but the absence of MIDI note send/receive "
BendApparatus I saw this too, I can confirm the unit can receive midi notes, you just need to set the channel to the corresponding part. Received my unit a few weeks ago and able to control with Octatrack and NDLR no prob. Not sure what the “absence” is they are referring too.
I didn't know about that software ...I guess it doesn't matter now anyway... I did hear that there were additional midi patterns that you could upload to the DJX1. It's a shame it's not more expandable because there are some good concepts in this unit I think. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Ahem. Dibbed one on its way😬 Hopefully can mash some sense out of it. Quite a few loops sound quite useable. Out of interest, when you play via external midi does it conform to GM standards like Drums on ch10 and bass on ch3 etc? Thanks again, you’re bad for my bank balance🤣🤣🤣
haha , think of it as an excellent investment! As for the MIDI, yep it complies with all the usual standards and there's a good MIDI map in the back of the manual that you can download for free :) Gearfacts
I just picked up this lil bad boy box for 50 bones... I am new to producing, learning basic music theory and how to navigate and create on Abelton 10. Anyone have any ideas or advice on how I can incorporate this? OR... more bluntly, is this box only for live sound or can I run it into a daw to record!?!? Either way I'll have fun with it... but I can't help the feeling that it's kind of like riding a scooter - mad fun, but I wouldn't let my friends catch me doing it 😉
Hey Nermak. This unit is fun all the way. It's design is a little bit fiddly for live work I find, and it doesn't integrate well with DAW or other midi systems ...but it's just fun to mess with. I think if you want to create complete recordings with it, the best way would be to sample the parts you like, set up a tempo-mapped song on your computer software, and arrange the samples as you like. Trying to play a song 'right' on this thing from start to end would be very tricky! But you'll have heaps of fun on the way :) Gearfacts
I don't know if this is still of interest, as the majority of people seem to knock this instrument, which I must admit is relatively easy to do on looks alone, unless your from an eastern block country were this look is now just in fashion. But at least it comes from a highly respected company , and not the chow me frtbox inc. As Mr.Gearfacts has clearly pointed out, it's the skill of mastering this that will shine through .Perhaps more importantly it's fun and a good place to start. Early success encourages and leads to more learning. Ok it probably won't produce a no#1 hit in its life, but could viablly be used as a part of an ensemble. Very rarely are tracks made with one instrument any way. And yes its limited compared to new tech, but I personally own some old analog synth's costing $20k and up( circa 60-80's) and they are more restrictive than this, yet you can often hear those and many like them in the mix of a current of a top ten track. Concert pianos can cost a fortune, like the Fazioli Brunei at $400,000 or the ALMA-Tadema Steinway at $1.2 MILLION, but they each only have 88 keys which make 88 notes of the same singular one dimensional sound. But when a master plays one, it's magical, well for this old man it is. So as with most things its only limited to the imagination and creativity of the user that counts. But if anyone is still interested in other possibilities from this "toy", have a look at Brian Maxwell Swisher Session 148, who uses one in collaboration with A Korg Kaoss Pad 3+ and a Mini Kaoss Pad 2 here [ th-cam.com/video/COa2xy0HXXI/w-d-xo.html ] and ask yourself is it a toy? Yes, I must confess, I own one too..
I agree. I'd expound on one point you made as well, about the limitations of instruments. Limitations are good, because they force us to think creatively and resourcefully so that we can get the most out of the instrument. Machines that do everything for you tend to deaden the creative impulse, I think. That's why old gear like this is still relevant in its own small way :) Gearfacts
Just wondering if anybody had any input, I’ve had this unit from the beginning got it out of storage.the live effector is not working properly & Sometimes a roaring sun will come out the speakers temporarily. It sys all data can be initialized and restored to factory reset condition by turning the power on while holding the loop button the clr will appear briefly on display that didn’t happen just stayed in regular on mode.
I've never seen this happen before, but I've heard that roaring sounds like that come from bad capacitors that are not quite dead but take a moment to tune in to the rest of the system. Sounds like a job for a tech, I don't think factory reset will rectify it unfortunately
Years ago I spent many hours dabbling with one without figuring out where it was supposed to shine... had some fun but it always felt very gimmicky and limited. Perhaps it was intended to frustrate buyers into returning it and dropping more money on something more capable ;)
so basically its a preset box that people can pretend they are a producer when really there playing with an over glorified toy? im confused.. can u run external gear thru it or what?
Seth Ogden You could put it that way, but it might come across as patronising to kids who want to enter the industry and amateurs who just want to have a bit of low-budget fun. I'm sure you'd never intend that. Anyway no, you can't run external gear through it but you can use it as a midi sound module to exploit its great selection of onboard sounds and effects. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
cool thanks.. yea i didnt mean to come off rude.. i see how it may have seemed that way.. just curious cuz i won an auction on ebay for one thinking it was an fx processor
+Seth Ogden haha yeah that's cool, man :) and you are right, it is caught somewhere between a toy and a serious DJ/midi arranger. I guess you're stuck with it now, but give it a good try-out with an open mind ...at the very least it'll give you a fun afternoon of musical experimentation. Thanks for watching Gearfacts !
It's for young musicians and kids. The DJX stuff was my first gear before graduating and getting into the pro music gear. The DJX keyboard does the job well of teaching you how to use a sampler and working with effects and learning how to play a synthesizer.

I would just put one of those little headphone adapters into the headphone socket.

Gearfacts I’ve recorded songs straight out of it before
What does the sense knob in the pattern section do? Can’t find anything about it in the manual or online. Does anyone know??
the blend or combination of sounds
Chris Allen it’s to sense the bpm of ace player hooked up to it
It senses the BPM of other music u r playing on some other device.
