I had both versions,still have the box...and because yamaha underpriced these things to some they are toys...but i can safely say the original djx 1 keyboard and the djx combo together is the best thing ever sonically....both battery operated really good presets and styles for the era...and its childs play to make shivers down yer spine.......why they let this die is beyond me!!!!
That original blue & gray DJX keyboard was a blast! Sampling, splits, filters, dope beats, sick effects, song memory, even a pitch bend ribbon! Plus the bizarre voice samples, the woman moaning ("COME ON!" "come onn" "ohh yeah") and hazy trip hop grooves to blunt ya 4 realz... Sadly, mine fell apart after years in storage, I lost the knobs, so I ditched it.Might go for the hideous gray & black DJX2 keyboard if I find one under US $100. I did score a mint DJX IIb Groovebox & original manual this year which I'm still exploring, even though my new OS iMac can't read the old Yamaha CD-ROM content or user files shown here. Gonna play it some more & try out the MIDI with external keyboard... any helpful tips are welcome.
damn, they put some time into this, @2:49 with the matrix style multi camera panning effect, whatever that's called. Yamaha should do a reissue of the DJX. Except replace the cdrom with a bluray containing a 4k remastered version of this video.
@@AudioPilz Oh, I'd get Yamz the glory they deserve. Next up, the SU700 would get a MK2 edition. This would update the floppy drive to smart media card reader. Since the encoders always seemed to fail on the SU700, the MK2 would get rid of those knobs and put em in menus that require a mouse to operate
This is a corny vid yes...but notice one thing: 100% of the DJX users will tell you the same thing It's one of--if not THE--most fun synths to get busy with. And we are not all nebies either. I started in 76 with a 74 Model D and have lost count how many syn ths/workstations/grooveboxes I've had. The DJX-II is a must have for anyone in ot synths. :-)
oh wow.. noticed the atari ST speech synth XBOX recordings in the background... oddly enough people get those recordings mixed up for the space mission recordings..

"KICKIN....CMON...AINT...........THE HOU-THE HOU-CMON!" but others were fine..
I wondered about this cdrom? I saw the DJX-IIB console have it but what if said cdrom disc is NOT with the DJX unit? Then what? Will the DJX be a paper weight? These are the questions that have me in cold sweats and sleepless at night.. No not really. But seriously what would happen? And is there anywhere to find a copy or the original cdrom discs?
The CD ROM has no function. You can use any other CD, as well. Couldn't get the software on it to work on a contemporary computer. The video is nice, tho
@@AudioPilz dude!!! Holy smokes I can’t believe you responded. I was the dude who commented that I was making a DJ setup with these - I had bought 2 more but both of them had shown up broken. Hopefully the third times’ the charm - the reason why I want to modify these so bad is because these have the same synthesis chip as the CS1X (Allegedly) and the editable parameters truly unlock this thing. Some guy on TH-cam has recreated Robert Miles’ “Children” and a few reggae patterns completely out of custom presets. The Software is just plain illusive and the midi is tough to work with which is why I think this never quite took off as it should’ve
Scored a mint DJX IIb for cheap from Goodwill, plus the manual. Sadly, my 2017 iMac & new BigSur OS can't read the original Yamaha DJX IIb CD-ROM files, patches, or the hilarious movie shown here, even with an external CD drive. But I may try to access it with an older PC here in my apt bldg lobby. QUESTION: If this older PC can read the Yamaha files & menu, can I then copy the files to a USB thumb drive for possible use on my iMac? Drag & drop? Any useful tips?

I LOVE my DJX-II. I've had it since it came out, and it's my favorite cheesy keyboard. I just wish you could edit the patches.
You can! There is an editor on the CD-ROM but you need an ancient computer for that
