As a kid i remember buying this from Argos and returning it the same day 😂😂😂 went to Richer Sounds after my next birthday and bought some turntables shortly after. Thanks for this review, I had no idea what it was truly capable of!
oh wow, i never thought id come across this thing again. I had one of these back in high school. i think it came out in 1999? my friends and I used to get really high and just jam out on this little box for hours lol- wow. we were always in the trance section -it was the only ones that didnt sound too corny.and wow, the vocal samples are hilarious.
hahaha yeah I got mine when I was like 12. By the time i was in highschool I had two numark turntables and mixer. think it was the dxm 06. we sat around getting stoned and mixing records and recording crazy shit with the microphone, it had a sweet vocode effect that was a lot of fun haha.
I must have been about 9-10 years old when I got this for Christmas, after spending over an hour in Toys R US playing with it everytime my parents took me there haha. I was certain I was going to end up being a top DJ in my adult career based on my time using it. Good memories. I sold mine, sadly with the effect rocker switch broken. It's quite bulky but in the early 2000's I don't think that was an issue back then with handheld devices not quite picking up hype. I used to take it to parties, and I remember having the huge batteries in it which meant I could play it almost anywhere. With good practice and getting the right flow working around it you can get some really good effects and songs going, with so many patterns and genres to play with.
I still come back to your video whenever I need to relive childhood. After watching this go-round I realized the Reloop buddy controller I use now has the same toggle effects switch which is one of the things that drew me to it, and I bet it’s due to my early days with this.
I can't wait to find one of these and open it up and circuit bend. I'm a mad scientist with a soldering gun and screwdriver. Wish it had a USB drive to load or import music on and samples, but the presets are cool anyway. Patch those filters in and bypass the need to hold down the switch! That'd be the first trick, I would try.
I asked for one of these for chrimbo in 2000 and my parents got me an electric guitar and amp instead and I’m so glad they did. But 21 years later I wish I had one of these
Absolutely love that Distortion effect. Such an absolute blast of fun and this is a great demo! I believe attaching a midi keyboard controller will allow the parts to be turned off and on (using one of the lower octaves of a 61-note keyboard)
I will never forgive my older brother for taking my DJX to band practice and let one of his bandmates borrow it and I never saw it again. I played with this thing for hours when I was a kid, one of the best Christmas gifts I ever got till a couple years later I got the Numark DJ in a box. But yeah.. still mad about it going missing. It was a great introduction in mixing and scratching lol and it kept me from breaking my parents turntable lol. I seem to recall mine glitching out at some point and making some of the effects do really crazy stuff sometimes, it was pretty awesome actually.
Really fun to see someone use it well! I have the original DJX keyboard but I'd love to hear you play with it because you'd get so much more out of it I bet.
@@phatplates I'm looking for a SU700, but can't find one for a good price, by the way I'm learning to use my SP808, very good machine also ! (effects !). Also got a CS2X and a CS6R, ok I'm not so young ...(And of course a DJX)

I have cassette tapes somewhere of music I made with a friend on this thing at 14 years old. Literally had notebook pages of what to do and press to make our “songs” 😂
I still have the keyboard version of this. I haven't plugged it in for ages though. The mark one was much better and I do have the mark one still plugged in at my studio. The beats in the mark two can still be used though and you've done a good job in presenting it in this video
you know what, after producing music for years, constantly acquiring pro level gear and sound, ultimately dismissing toys like these as utter shit, i can safely say in an age of instant gratification apps and the like, i could see myself playing with this for hours on end. i'd love one just for fun and to keep in a collection. i think one day these will be worth a fortune. P.s, 20 quid is a total steal. you won't get fun like this for 20 bob anywhere else!! KEEP IT
Same. After decades of synths, drum machines and keyboard gear, bought the keyboard DJX and incorporated it quickly into my setup. Was super fun. Instant song creation. Always inspiring to play and groove against. Sold that, and now looking around for this smaller version. A secret weapon when connected to analog synth gear.
I had one of these when I was growing up. I can tell you with absolute confidence that I had an absolute blast with it when I was younger. I have no idea where it is now, but I saw the DJX in a random video and was suddenly reminded it was a thing. Brought back a lot of memories eating pizza rolls with my friends and just screwing around to see what kind of grooves we could make.
I used an Oxygen 8 to individually control the volume of all parts. Also reverb. Much better the preset mix control, also freed up the 'scratch' controller.
Where did you dig up that dinosaur lol. I love that series tho. I had the keyboard and my friend had that. Loved Making "beats" with the keyboard. Wish I hadn't sold it. Awesome find! 😄🙌
I made a beautiful jungle pop track around of one of the loops lol. I always mean to get around to recording them all as they come and ditching the box
It's a great fun machine. I have 2. The biggest Pain In the Ass is the lack of seamless variation changes. In isolation, with good timing it's ok. When running 2 in MIDI sync the slightest mis step in changing variations and the rhythm is out.
Yeah, I buy two off that Vintage on Today hope they will arrive soon here! Thank you for the preview and let me see what I can do with that nice toy 👍👍
great work! any tips on how to get the pattern launcher for Mac? also ii cannot use the DJX as a midi source- I can only get a dinky piano sound off it as midi! any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have one of these and it's not that cool you can't program your own because it's all a bunch of Beats that are programmed which would be fine if there wasn't Melodies also on top of them .. it's basically just a bunch of Beats already programmed into it that you can like add effects to certain parts and generic fake scratches save your money on this one the djx keyboard is pretty cool though.
Not so bad. Most of music gear is "useless noise machine" if you don't use it properly and don't use external FX. DJXIIB has a lot hidden features if you explore the unit. It is able to receive, memorize and play a user generated .mid patterns/loops: 5 slots x 10 variations.( copying 5 patterns from PC takes about 10 sec.) Also some of the factory drum sets and preset loops are not so bad (after muting 4 tracks of cheezy basslines and melodys of course)
@@midifun8423 , I agree with you. The DJX2b can be resampled, reversed, pitch shifted and new loops created with it to be used in new music compositions. It just depends on your imagination and talent. 🤘🎶🛸
