Creality has this annoying habit of releasing stuff without proper testing. Having said that, I still would rather get the K1 over the Bambulabs because I really don't like proprietary stuff. The K1 already has rooting and interesting mods from the community
I got a new K1 a day ago. It's been absolutely brilliant so far. No under extrusion issue yet.
That's good to hear. What have you been printing
Creality has fixed the extruders problem already it replaced the plastic gears with metal ones @randymay if you check the new one they sent you it should have the new gears 😊
Got my K1 yesterday and it worked perfectly right out of the box without any of the extruder issues.
That's good and it seems that they have fixed that problem completely now. 😁👍
After getting myself the same comgrow buildplate, I made use of a marker and a dremel to transfer the grooves, which was actually pretty easy to do. I Kind of like those alignment screws in the back ;)
Not a bad idea
This is what I would do to make that comgrow plate work. The alignment notches are very handy.
I've got my K1 Max about a week ago. It is awesome! I even use it to dry my filament.
Oh that's great to hear. 😁👍
The sample roll of PLA is a small amount so you can get started test printing, I don’t think it’s leftover filament. Cheers
Now that the k1 is fixed it sounds awesome, and I plan on getting one now
Oh cool and I hope it stays fixed. Let me know if you end up getting one and what you think of it.
@@randymay yea definitely, before I heard about the fix I thought p1p but now k1
Great video, I've been thinking of getting a filament printer for some electronics projects
Thanks and yeah filament printers are nice to have just to quickly make things.
Very good video and i had the same under extruding issue as well and am speaking to creality to get this fixed. What profile did you use to print the asa? Ive been using the premade abs one but get artifacts throughout the print.
I just used the ABS settings for ASA
I have tried setting up my K1, but it restarts every time it gets to the testing the heating need plate in the setup
I'm waiting for support to get back to me.
The K1 has come down in price since, it’s now $599 USD, I paid $650 AUD at Jaycar, in Malaga, Perth Western Australia, they had it priced at $819 AUD.
I find, I don’t need any glue stick on the print bed, as the model is hard to get off.
under extrusion is usually due to clogs in the hotend caused by too much retraction with all metal hotends but not the case with standard hotends like on the ender 3 where the bowden tube touches the nozzle. So if you are getting under extrusion lower the retraction settings to about 3mm max and it should fix the issue.
Normally yeah that could be the problem but at the time it was a known problem with the K1 and the extruder being defective. They have fixed this problem now and sent out replacement extruders to anyone that bought the printer.
Can this print bottles well?
I've had my K1 for a week. I thought the under extrusion might be a slicing issue, so I downloaded CR's slicer. Didn't help.
"Davin build robots". I couldn't help myself but to laugh on that
How about printing Carbon Fiber Nylon with the K1 and 5 S1?
What nozzles does it take?
It uses a volcano style hot end so you would need a hardened one of those or sapphire tipped.
Excellent Video!!!!!
Made my mind up to NOT GET a Creality K1 - until the redesign a filament feeder motor with a fully supported on both sides bearings...ie using longer bearing shaft....Amazing they copied someone else extruder motor and they did a shoddy job ????? super interesting that MICRO CENTER received 25 units - as of two weeks of having them in inventory they only sold 7 units.,....while they are completely sold out of Bambu Labs P1P's and K1's
Well thank you very much and yeah that's totally understandable. They definitely need to make sure they have that entire intruder system working properly and working reliably. They did tell me that they have something in the works that they'll be sending out but I don't know when I'll be getting it.
On the same note I might have just got a package in from bambu Lab today that will be a upcoming video 😁👍
lol I would get the x1 carbon with the AMS, great printer and changing filament on the fly is awesome.
Second place I would get the P!P
Yeah a good choice and here's a full video about the X1 carbon and a little bit about the P1P and P1S th-cam.com/video/8mqrm_2_yzc/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I have also similar problem with extruder on K1, it's looks like extruder cannot hold and push filament properly!
Yeah sadly that is the common problem that is happening. You will have to contact Creality for a replacement or modify the printer so you can use a better extruder 😥
@@randymay how they can fix this issue? They will send me same non succesfully builded extruder again :)
I'd better try to find some other way to rebuild their extruder and make it more smothly drive!
My K1 20/20 Hindsight Wish List:
Good reliable extruder (can't believe they pooched the most important part)
Klipper/Fluidd instead of the ripped off open source Klipper they crippled to make it proprietary
Move the filament reel from the back to the side
Print surfaces that do not require a stupid glue stick
K1 profiles for all popular slicers with all common filaments
Creality got so much right on the K1 and K1 Max but some of it looks like Bambu Me Too marketing driven design instead of solid engineering with the features that customers want. I don't want a camera or lidar on the K1 Max but Creality is competing with the Bambu X1C so they glommed it on there and are charging me for it whether it works or not, whether I want it or not.
The K series are great looking printers with some great features such as being a fast core XY design with a 60 watt ceramic heater for high flow rates and fully enclosed to print engineering materials. I love that they put a USB port on the front panel but they should make LAN printing and printer monitoring much easier with full featured Klipper, and honor the open source licensing agreement rather than ripping off the open source software without attribution or publishing the source code.
I refuse to use a cloud server or app to print my parts. USB sneaker net or secure LAN only. The spammy ads in the Creality K1 app make Creality look like a bad joke, not that I would have known without TH-cam reviews and comments because I'd never install a 3D printer app.
All very good points and pretty much right on the mark. There was a workaround for a little bit that allowed you to get into the actual klipper firmware using fluid but they patched it within a week of that being released.
@@randymay - I saw what I believe to be a patch for the patch, where the K1 is fooled into downgrading the firmware so it can install the full version of open source Klipper. Hopefully that's still working... and Creality needs to stop fighting with its customers by preventing them from using Klipper if they want. In fact, they should stop crippling Klipper to be their purloined proprietary software and spend their effort developing reliable hardware that works. It looks very bad to ship hundreds of flagship K1 printers with extruders that bend and under extrude after a day or two of printing. The community conclusion is that they didn't fully test the K1 and instead shipped the first thing that seemed to work without testing for long term reliability. Not having a bulletproof extruder on a $600 3D printer is a major fail. They can recover from it, but it's a definite black eye for the K1, and ammunition for the evangelical Bambu Lab 3D printer owners.
I still hope to buy a K1 or K1 Max in a couple of months, but I'll wait for the teething pains to subside, and for the community and aftermarket to supply whatever Creality refuses to fix or provide - a reliable extruder, no glue stick build plates, a PrusaSlicer profile... even open source firmware for reverse engineered K1 hardware.
I recently got the Creality K1 3D AI MAX Printer but having issues, when doing the input shaping, the extruder goes to the bottom left or bottom right corner depending on how you look at it and can't move from that spot, any help?
Have you tried updating it?
@@randymay I am very new to 3d printing I don't know how to update because it. Do I need to do the initial setup first don't I?
Would it be ok to add you on discord for some help?
I'm not on discord 😅 also how long did you let the printer sit when it was doing the input shaping setup? Just because it takes a few minutes normally
@@randymay few minutes but that’s when it was banging and grinding very loud
Ended up buying a K1 for $200 off from microcenter. Seems like a good buy at that price but if they were the same I'd probably buy the Bambu.
Yeah that's a great price and if it has the fixes done it should do a good job. Let me know what you think of it after a few prints.
i've had mine for about a week now,and the extruder problem has been fixed,,the only real complaint i have is the noise,,it is fairly loud, and it would have been nice if creality would have included some extra nozzles,,i use esun filaments in all my machines and so far it prints esun just as good as the creality filaments, which are pretty pricey :(this machine is still a work in progress, but creality seems to be adrressing thier issues quite quickly, 3 firmware updates in the week i've had mine
Did they send you new extruder?
@@nathanpaw mine shipped with the upgraded extruder
Interesting, how different is it?
@@bitzz How can you tell if you got the fixed extruder?
great video,
im having the same under extrusion problems, no response yet from creality tho :(
I'm sorry to hear that. Let me know when they get back to you.
@@randymay they did get back with me. Said they'll be sending me a new extruder kit.
Oh that's good to hear. Do you know how long that's going to take?
The K1 has lots of potential but it was obviously rushed into production - a defective extruder is unacceptable .I'll wait until there are glowing reviews before I will consider purchasing. Next issue Creality must open source the software or this product is DOA.
Well I have good news seeing that they have fixed those problems and made the software open source.
Creality k1 sounds like better alternative to bambu lab p1p since it costs half of it
Over time and with them fixing the extruder problems this is a great alternative to the P1P and P1S
Man, these extruder issues are worrying. It’s such a promising machine otherwise. Surprised they haven’t jumped on a fix with all their assets.
Yeah everything on this thing seems to work really well and smoothly but that extruder is a big problem for sure.
Why is Nathan Builds Robots having to explain basic engineering principals to Creality over and over again?!? I mean I am happy they started making their machines more safe less prone to fire, but it's crazy to me that the largest 3D printing company needs some guy on TH-cam (who I highly respect) to constantly explain how their machines need to be improved. It's like using the IRS to help you understand your finances via purposely making errors in your taxes hoping for an audit...
They’re saving the extruder fix for the Pro/V2
Lol
@@JonLaRueI like Nathan, but what proof do you have they're even listening to him?
Perhaps their engineers are handling it. If someone wants to offer their advice, it's free speech. Doesn't mean they're taking it. Unless you have proof of that.
I think Creality made a marketing mistake. They should have released this as Ender 3 S2 and called it a win. I seriously thought Creality plans to replace The Ender line with the Ender K series, but at this point of time I am sad to say the Ender 3 S1 Pro is a more capable machine at least it can print what it comes with from its memory card. Make it slower, say, print at 100mm/s default. still faster than Ender 3 v2. use the same control board as V2 as it will be cheaper. then If we wanted, we could have just ran our own sonicpads at leaset we would get a half decent software.
I got mine yesterday and unfortunately K1 has been the first printer from Creality I own that can not print out of the box. So now I need to figureout what is wrong and this is not the reason I buy Creality for. If I wanted to figure things out I would build a Voron.
- I own an Ender S1 Pro with Sonic Pad as well and what comes with the K1 as software is "from my viewpoint" worse than the stock S1Pro. I can see the K1 is trying to do something blazingly fast but no printing.
- I do not like the print bed at all. the original glass ender 3 bed is better. This one will not hold anything even with glue.
- I really hate the spool location. Completely retarded.
- when you cover the top the cable guides hit the top cover and bind the bowden tube. so you end up removing the cover. well when you do that cops show up at your door for public disturbance (it is LOUD) I really loved the WTF is going on in there looks I had from people to be honest....
- my first layer is not low enough and I can not adjust it.
- I really do not like the cloud app. It is a ladyboy (It looks great but you know what you are going to get when you unzip it)
edit* - I just installed the software for slicing and we are looking at each other. I suspect she is the Cloud Apps Brother.
- I want to use this as an advanced more capable Ender 3 but it seems Creality has different Ideas.
- For its price it is a lot of 3D Printer but it is a lot for this 3D printer at this point as its not fuctional. (sorry Creality I love your products but I hate your execution)
I am awefully confused at what I have at the moment. It just looks amazing. The quality of the product is magnificent. I want to hug the bloody thing but For the time being I am going to put it on the shelf and treat it as a piece of art.
I am sure both Creality and the printing community will come together and fix the issue here. The local distributor and the community is great here in Turkey so I am sure they will be all over this issue get things going.
Dude, Creality is more tinkering than a Voron.
And the Ender series was not planed to be reolaced by the K series.
The K series is planned to see the hightest line on Creality products alongside the CR series
Ender series is the economy line of Creality and it will never stop, the Ender 3 already has succesors in the form of the V3 SE (the most basic), the V3 KE (Intermediate that has a kind of klipper installed on it) and the V3 (yes, the hightest of the line is only called V3, not V3 pro or V3 S1, just V3, is a core XZ Ender 3 with the K1 extruder).
I'd spend a little more and go with the p1p with DIY enclosure and upgraded hardened nozzle and extruder.
That is what I did with my P1P 😁👍
I have a K1` buzzing away next to me right now. I got it riday, and the only problem I have had with it is printing PETG filament. It just doesn't seem to be able to extrude it fast enough, and I don't know if that's due to my crappy filament, or the printer. I suspect the filament, because it prints everything else I've put in it perfectly. I really dislike the ad-ridden cloud app, so I'm going to continue to be a curmudgeonly old man and just put files in the printer with the USB stick.
Yeah try a different PETG if you have some. You can use the Creality Print software on your PC to connect to the printer. I haven't had any ads on it that I can remember
@@randymay I'm going to try a new roll of PETG this weekend.
So, how is the extruder going after half a year?
Going fine after swapping it out and it seems that this isn't a problem at all any more with the new units
I would really love to get the p1p but unfortunately it costs about 950 usd where I live cos there’s only 1 seller for bambu and they jack up the price for no reason. That’s the complete basic p1p without the cam and fan …
What country are you in if you don't mind me asking?
@@randymaysouth Africa unfortunately
So now they’ve fixed the extruded issue, it’s looking like a decent printer.
Very much so.
The P1P can do multi colour printing with the AMS, the K1 does not have that option. The P1S has also just been released and it is a K1 killer.
Oh yeah the P1S is a K1 killer for sure.
Why is the P1S a K1 killer ?
I'm sorry if it's obvious, I'm just trying to get back into the lobby after leaving 2 years ago, and DAMN things have changed a lot in 2 years !
they are surprised a printer that costs 900 beats a 500 printer lol@@Akimitsuuu
At the time of making this the K1 had some really bad problems with the extruder. For me it failed after 20 hours and for some people it came out of the box not working at all. And the replacement parts took a long time to get as well.
The price difference is not $900 vs $500 I was talking about just getting the P1S without the AMS so it's a $100 difference between the K1 and P1S.
Now with everything fixed on the K1 is a better option now unless you ever want to use that AMS unit for multiple colors or backup filament rolls.
the p1s costs 900 vs 500 for the k1. learn to read context bro@@randymay
The extruder on the one I got uses metal gearing. I just received it. I took it apart and its not black plastic like yours. I paid $450 for mine. I will make a video if it ever fails.
That's because you received the v2 extruder that was crealitys fix to that problem hopefully it no longer fails
And where did you get yours I just ordered one from Matter Hackers and I payed 421.87$ and received a 100$ gift card so i basically payed 321.87$ and I bought some filaments and extra nozzles with the 100$ gift card 😊

@@Eklipz-sg8ex its been a fairly reliable printer
I hope creality fixes the extruder issue or I'll be worried about whether I can fix my k1 when it has a problem!
Yeah that would be a concern for sure. There are community fixes available now to switch out the extruder completely easy to get options
Did creality stop with the annoying notifications with their app?
Nope
The noise level is a no go for me.
I am gutted i got my K1 delivered set and 1st print was mint, then issues with the extruder and now they tell me to take it apart because of a common prob they know about 2 days old now and can't print shit im soooo annoyed with this company for releasing a machine not ready to be released.
I'm really sorry to hear that and yeah it definitely has extruder problems that need to be fixed ASAP or should have been fixed before shipping out to paying customers. Let me know how things go and if they end up replacing that for you.
The head issue bothers me so me personally wouldn't consider it until the head issue was corrected. Have you used any of these and a scanner to make any jewelry patterns?
Yeah I totally understand that because that is really a main component to make the printer work.
I have used a scanner to make jewelry. th-cam.com/video/GkKFRAx1Hyc/w-d-xo.html
Hey Randy, I sent you an instagram message but maybe you didn’t get it. I was curious if you would be willing to let me know who you contacted at Creality to receive a printer for review? I’d like to review one on my channel! Thanks!
Yuo can now flash open firmware and use klipper free wiouth any other creality stop, Creality liberate the firmware , then yuo can setup yuo zoffset as always
Yeah you can now but at the time you couldn't
Mine is being returned. Hot end failed, extruder let go, then found out the frame was bent and causing the x-axis to bind. Garbage machine. They've offered a replacement, but at this point I think I just want the money back. Done nothing but lose money on this printer.
I'm really sorry to hear that and like I said in this video it could be a good printer but there are those problems with the hot end that need to be fixed ASAP.
You might want to check out this printer as a replacement if you're still in the market for a quick and reliable printer bit.ly/Bambu-Lab-P1P-3D-Printer-US
@@randymay If I can get a refund out of creality, I will. Here in Canada, they don't cover the return shipping, so I'm out a rather heafty amount of money to send it back to them. I usually don't spam stuff like this, but I erroneously thought this would be a good printer. I had to go back on my word and wasn't able to finish prints I said I would. It's been a total nightmare and if I can save just one person from what I've gone through, then I'll feel better.
