- I drove the new F66 Mini Cooper S on a 1000 mile round trip to the N24 to cheer on the Mini team racing the new Mini F66 JCW in the Nurburgring 24 Hour. We even managed a VMax to see just how fast the F66 Cooper S is.

First impressions for me was “that’s not a Mini”. Totally different design to what I’m used to. Paint colours make a difference to the look as well. However after watching this video I want one!

Loved the Mini's on the Eurotunnel and VMax run 👍 I've driven to Switzerland a few times and if I do it again will have a detour to try the AutoBahn😃 Also Ghent looked lovely. Nice trip. You could use GPS speed for a bit more accuracy, speedos deliberately over read 2-4% typically, and it gets a bit worse as tyres wear. It will also get quicker as the engine loosens up, to around 10,000 miles depending on how it's driven. That said, your trip probably went some way to loosening up the engine quickly.
I''ve got an F56 Cooper, it's not a great car but it's not bad either. It picks up about as well as my old BMW 330i at normal speeds, as it's much lighter and has some torque due to the turbo, but quite a bit better on fuel.
Brilliant video, really enjoyed the mini content again as I'm a big mini fan. Get something similar on you're new incoming mini countryman. 👍👍

I think the R56 and F56 shape will always be the pinnacle of a raw Mini before the design went down hill.
F56 was widely criticised when launched. The Mini traditionalists said it was too big, had awkward front overhangs and overly large rear lights .It’s funny how time changes perceptions.
Yes, I agree and I think of the newer generation, the R56 was the best and most rawest but the F56 was also a nice grown up version. The styling however on the models since have been over-thought and over-designed.

I was incredibly worried that the F66 would only be offered as an EV. I am estatic that they are offering an ICE version. I bought an F54 JCW like Charlie just anticipating the death of the ICE mini. But it is incredible to have a smaller sized cooper that is potentially lighter than my old F56. Great stuff!

Only compromised by the seats for me. Very impressed by the car though during the test drive but then my daily is a XC90.
I did the race in 2000 when there were 230 starters.
I understand the grid is about half that now days?
The grid walk reminder me of when I ran there was a guy walking the grid, with bagpipes, and played the New Zealand national anthem for us.
A bit of a bugger the race got stopped due to fog.
A long way for an overseas driver to go for not many laps.

It seems to be a great Mini, although I’m still warming to the new taillights. I have a question about the performance: the new car has +26 hp but has the same top speed and 0-62 mph as the F56?

@PetrolPed I remember doing 178 in a 2007 bmw m5 v10 with the headup it was easy to check speed. If you didn't have a headup I'd completely understand.
I'm confused, I watched a video yesterday (midweek 180) and you had a new car delivered to replace this car (a countryman JCW) I commented that your new car was older than this one yet here you are posting content saying it was only dropped off a few days ago, what's going on? or am I losing the plot?

Great video Pete. We did the castle and as you said its an incredible view. The roads around the ring are just as good as the ring itself. Great food, Great beer, Great roads and cars. What more would you want 😂. That little mini looked epic.
