Gotta admit I skipped over this at first not realizing it was YOU and I’m mostly on TH-cam for knitting content. Once I realized this was a video from you I had to watch and I’m so glad I did. I love movies too but I usually don’t make time for them. This video makes me want to start my own movie journal. Absolutely more like this please.

It's like a personal letterboxd! I'd recommend Mulholland Drive, Brief Encounter, Samsara, Hot Fuzz, Mary & Max, Anatomy of a Fall and The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. And for foreign films Hero (2002), RRR, We Are Little Zombies, REC, Doorlock, Fantastic Planet, Air Doll

@@ThePixiixiq I'd count that! The United States is an echo chamber of our own media (in my opinion) where we dont really hear about popular media in other regions unless we specifically seek it out. Sometimes it's hard to know where to start.

You've Got Mail is a favorite movie; it always reminds me of fall even though the movie goes through almost an entire year from early fall to late spring/early summer. Looking forward to more journaling content. For journaling ideas, treat it as your "everything, whatever" scratch paper. Grocery list? Write it down. Write out basic points for a conversation you want to have with someone. Write a letter to a friend or your husband or your cat (even if it is a rough draft). Copy down a line of poetry that really grabs hold of you, or a line from whatever book you're reading or from the movies that you are watching. Write down your knitting plans, or gift knit ideas. Add sermon notes if that and church is your thing. If you are planning a vacation, write down your packing list. Doodle a picture of your cats. Get one of those Instax or whatever is similar to polaroid and take photos to paste/tape in the journal.

I think I’m due for stepping up (stepping down?) my journal game. I love the idea of making it more casual. I’ve started using some pages as a day planner and I think it’ll be kinda cool one day to look back at what a grocery list in my 20s looked like or what I did in a day.

I think it makes so much sense for you to not just make knitting videos as someone who doesn't aim to create pieces as fast as possible, and I think it might be a good reminder to other creators that you don't need to knit a finished garment (or several!) for each upload.

I can recommend The Lives of Others, a german movie set in the GDR about a member of the secret police spying on an author but growing more and more fascinated by his life. It's very character-driven and won a bunch of awards. Another one that's really good is Rashomon, a japanese movie from the 50s. It revolves around a crime that was seen by multiple people who all remember it differently. I watched it in University for a course and was surprised by how modern it feels.

Sunset Boulevard -1950 ( the height of movie glamour , camp, and drama)
Gaslight - 1944 (also Angela Lansbury's first movie role. She is a young chick in this one)
The Letter- 1940 (based on a true story and the subject of numerous novels) BETTE DAVIS!!! The best!!! watch any of her movies. So over the top and so great!
The Third Man-1949 (the theme music is a classic)
Life is Beautiful 1997 (so sad, so funny, so heart wrenching)

I have two underrated gems that I adore! First is the Love Witch, it's, as the title suggests, about a witch obsessed with love. It came out within the last ten years but is incredibly inspired by the 60s/70s and old hollywood and the costuming is outstanding. The other is a queer classic called The Watermelon Woman. Its about a woman who decides to make a documentary on a lesser known black actress from old hollywood which takes her on a journey of queerness and race in hollywood.

For foreign films, I highly recommend In The Mood For Love by Wong Kar-wai. It's absolutely gorgeous (and was visually referenced in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which you should also watch if you haven't seen it yet).
And for a film with an idiosyncratic energy thst just can't be found anywhere else, I recommend The Fifth Element. It's wild and I love it!

I would absolutely 100% recommend "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" aka Amélie. Especially seeing as a lot of films you've enjoyed are ones I also love - and Amélie is one of my favourite films of all time! Also 2006's "The Fall" with Lee Pace has insanely amazing cinematography! I love that you've gotten back into journalling and are visiting your local library. Looove this idea! I'm a total film nerd and I've been in a journaling slump too, so I might try this out 😊 as for recommendations: maybe these are already on your list, but if you want some more classic/old Hollywood films, I'd recommend The Red Shoes (beautiful film about ballet/what it takes to be an artist) and Metropolis by Fritz Lang, a totally crazy sci-fi from the 20s! I think both are available here on TH-cam 🤩

I only discovered your channel today, but I would love to see more journaling videos, apart from the knitting/crochet content! 😊 I create reading challenges for myself in a similar way, but I've been really behind with watching movies this year and you inspired me to do it more often.
I'm not sure which genres you like the most, but some of my favourite movies are: The Fountain (2006), Practical Magic (1998), Whisper of the Heart (1995), Mona Lisa Smile (2003), Tolkien (2019), The Mummy and The Mummy Returns (so fun 😄), Chocolat (2000), K-PAX (2001), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Agora (2009).
For the foreign movies, I recommend Cold War (2018), Hear Me (2009), The Intouchables (2011), Fanaa (2006).

Really enjoyed this! I’m a bit older than you (maybe 30 years 😂), so it’s strange to see movies from the 80’s & 90 be referred to as classics, but I guess it all depends on your perspective. Anyway, some of my favorite classic movies are any Katherine Hepburn movies (Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner) - she didn’t win 3 Oscar’s for nothing… Also, Barbara Stanwyck is usually great (Double Indemnity). And Casablanca is a must see. Also, I agree with your friend about Die Hard, it’s one of my all time favorites!
And while you’re at the library don’t forget to check out the knitting books. My library system also allows me to request books from any library in my state. If I hear about a knitting book that sounds good, I almost always borrow it from the library first to make sure I will find it useful enough before buying it.

One of my favourite movies is “in your eyes” from 2014. It’s a lovely romance/fantasy movie about two strangers who can see and hear through each others eyes. It’s based on the soulmates mythology that we used to be joined together but when we come to Earth we are split in half. I like it, it’s feel good and the soundtrack is pretty good. I also love The Fugitive, a classic for a reason.

    C.R.A.Z.Y (2005) - absolutely love that one
Ma fille, mon ange (2007) - with a few well-known and well-love québécois actors
    La grande séduction (2003)
    M’entends-tu? (2018) - trashy, crude, tragic, a must see
Mommy (2014) - actors are sublime.
    Le déclin de l’empire américain
Les invasions barbares (2003) - won an oscar.

As an avid movie watcher (and knitter), I love this video! I think it’s a great idea, I am horrible at using something like letterbox to track my movie watching but I love the idea of this physical journal and starting with a list to watch. I might have to do this to encourage myself to watch all the movies I’ve been meaning to put on but just never get around to. If you’re looking for some foreign language films, I think anything by Jean Pierre Melville and starring Alain Delon are really good. I don’t know if you have anything by Brian de Palma on your list but I love his films too - Phantom of the Paradise and Blow Out are both amazing, but his older films are all pretty awesome. Thanks!
