Personally I disagree. Veronica was to say the least a horrific, stuck up, bitch. Sierra’s life was miserable from girls like her and others. It’s bullshit. I’m so over bullies getting away w being a victim. Sierra was bullied and it fucked with her mentally, emotionally, and physically. So she wasn’t ok. She thought if she started acting like those privileged pos girls like Veronica that life would be easier. But it wasn’t, and she was lost and stuck. I don’t think Sierra is a bad person. I think she had enough of people’s bullshit

Dumplin is a much sweeter and better movie with a plus size girl falling in love with a skinny boy. The romance is not the main part of the story, it follows her becoming a better and more confident person, and she doesn’t date him until she figures herself out. He loves her and she doesn’t have to trick him, lose weight or completely change her personality for him to do it. It’s still kind of cheesy and the movie is not as a good as the book but it’s awesome!

Sierra is not even unattractive at all. I knew plenty of girls in my high school who were way less attractive than that and they were popular and got many dates. Is this what you call “Hollywood unattractive?”
Also, I hate it when movies portray marching band members who get good grades as the “losers”. As far as I’m concerned, being musically talented and doing well in school aren’t bad things, and I never knew anyone who was bullied for that. In fact, they were considered very popular and treated with respect. This trend has been around since like the 1980s, it needs to stop

Keep Veronica’s redemption arc but sprinkle in the guilt of what she did in the past so she has always been questioning if she’s even worthy of redemption. While Sierra manipulates her thinking she’s always been and will always be a bad person so what’s the point of her growing anyway. Then people found out she’s been catfishing and starts to avoid her, leaving her to deal with her consequences. Meanwhile Veronica ends up in a toxic friendship with her always acting as Sierras puppet, until it took her a while to leave her.

Honestly, though, I feel like this would have been a fine movie if you just removed the love interest and made it about an overweight girl learning to feel confident in herself and a bully learning to be a better person.
Setup: They get assigned to work together on a group project.
The plus-sized girl, who never bothered to take care of or try on her appearance learns how to style her hair, wear more flattering clothing, and the such to make herself look more confident and therefore attractive from the bully girl.
The bully girl learns how to show more empathy, kindness, and be more confident in her personality and intelligence from the plus-sized girl. She learns that she's more than just her looks, and that she doesn't have to be flawless all the time.
It's a cliche plot, but who doesn't love a campy movie every once in awhile? Plus, it's infinitely better than what the actual movie was about.

Shay45 Welcome to believable characterization you ignoramus. People in real life aren't 2-dimensional characters that hold one personality throughout an entire movie, and for once this was the movie to show that. People's emotions fluctuate, people that seem nice and easygoing on the outside can hold toxic grudges on the inside that cause them to do things *you* wouldn't normally believe them to do because-guess what genius? *You don't know them*. Sierra as character made you think that she was the type of female protagonist to be strong, witty, sure of herself enough to stand Veronica's constant teasing because THAT'S THE ONLY SIDE SHE WAS WILLING TO SHOW THE AUDIENCE! When she pulled that stunt near the end of leaking Veronica's picture, that showed you all along she wasn't the person everyone ignorantly thought her to be of yet another goodie two shoes female protag trope- she was *herself*. A human being. Which is why I commend the writers of this show for making such a humanistic character. If that idea still doesn't satisfy you, then another way you could have seen it was that Sierra was planned to be an unreliable narrator and fool the audience , have people already forgotten that this plot device still exists?

Sometimes she had malicious intent beyond what others said about her. She was always manipulative and jealous of me that she went on a smearing campaign on me so that no one would like me. Till this day she is still malicious with me. I remember one time she gave a present to a girl who she messed with. Pretending she was her friend, gave her a gift that was a razor and she left a birthday card inside writing a convincing message that she should go kill herself. This evil overweight woman now is happily married with a daughter that she reflects her dreams, trying to prove to the world she is smart by living through her daughters achievements. I think a more fitting ending scene would be watching Sierra brutally murder Veronica in some dank dark basement, then cut her face off and wear it as a mask. Camera pans around to see the dude naked and bloody, chained to the wall with horror in his eyes as Sierra yells at him "DO YOU LOVE ME NOW!". Close up of the terror in his eyes and smash cut to credits with a thumping soundtrack.

She'd probably give him the Annie Wilkes treatment where she kidnaps him, ties him to her bed and breaks his legs so he can't escape. The film would work better if it was horror with Sierra psychotically obsessed with Jamey, stalking him everywhere and flying into a jealous rage when she sees him dating Veronica.

And that's not even touching the fact that with everything she's got she may not get into the most prestigious universities without a bit of extracarriculars but many universities would not exactly be turning her away either so she'd have a wide pick of schools as long as she has the money to attend.
