Almost every Wattpad bad/punk boy is a controlling, manipulative abuser with anger issues. They also flirt and sleep with every girl they can, but are oddly possessive of the protagonist. It’s weird.
I was thinking the same thing. Noah says, 'He is protecting her because she has no experience with boys' but how will she if he keeps on beating dudes who she wants to date. Also, he keeps on fucking kissing random girls but she isn't allowed to? What assholery is this? This whole movie gives me a headache.
Alicia DeFrates So true, aside from the kissing booth the biggest example of this is the After series, I mean Hardin spends the better part of the series emotionally and verbally abusing Tessa and yet somehow she still manages to fall in love with him, it baffles the mind.
well technically you can take part in changing em although its a gamble. If you dump them and people keep on dumping em for the same reason maybe they can change then? Edit: At least you would be saving some poor soul experiencing being in an abusive relationship, and you'd have the experience to look out for signs that a relationship is abusive and leave. its a win win...I guess?
You're more likely to change them by turning them down. The reason people become assholes is because they don't see any incentive in being kind and see incentive in being cruel. Remove the incentive of girls getting with guys who choose to be assholes while spouting that nonsense through informing girls of the fact that "no you can't change him you dimwit" and BANG less assholes.
mffffrrr i watched so many teenroms like this that i had the mindset of "oh i can fix this guy!" "we're in love, it's fine!" its so fcking toxic holy shitt i stg i barely got out of a toxic n abusive relationship because of that sht

Well, just think about things that the Hollywood is associated with, especially in context of the latest controversies souronding it. Pretty sickening huh ?
Is it that the morality and safety messages in rom-coms are getting worse or is it that they used to apply them to situations involving mistaken-identity, memory-loss or mermaids? They didn't try to be realistic before.
I never understood the "comedy" part of this movie in anyway, nothing made me laugh, if most it made me cringe. And wonder how a guy like that was so desirable.

why is no one talking about the fact that Lee thinks Noah hit Elle. what could Noah have done to make lee think that... makes me terrified seeing all of Noah’s other actions
It would've been a cool twist if Lee knows about Noah being very abusive to everyone, especially ex girlfriends and made the "No dating siblings" rule in order to keep Noah away from Elle.
it more like MARRY me, the fact that NOAH would not let his brother talk to his best friend alone, we NEVER see anything to show that lee would hurt her, so that show noah is way to controlling.
You know what would’ve been a good reason behind Lee’s rule? If Noah was an asshole and Lee wanted to protect her from Noah. If he knew Noah’s abusive tendencies and wanted to keep her from being hurt.
That really would've been such a good reason. Since in the movie theres even a scene when Lee sees Elle with an injury of some kind and really angrily asks Noah if he did that to her. They were so close

Their height difference kinda scares me, ngl. He definitely looks like a grown man and she's still quite youthful. She's not even excessively short-- he's just insanely tall
@Kamareon Davis the image itself is scary... one girl I know is about 6ft and has been for a long time and at some point she was taller than every boy around her. That alone was enough for her to stay single until all the boys finally caught up 😂😂

The way this film sexualises a teenager for no reason other than to sexualize a teenager. Other than the first scene where she gets assaulted and it's used as a plot starter, we just have these random scenes of this girl taking off her top for no reason
@@j0bie He's answering the question. Guys like to look at attractive women. Teen movies are targeted towards teens and young adults. They get the male audience with fan service.
Invalid Opinion Yeah I get that, it’s been around for a long time but most of the time the movie clearly states that relationships like that are not okay but recent movies like this make it look like it’s okay
Cenoreira It really fucking doesn’t. It’s a film. It’s like watching a superhero film and thinking you can fly because Superman does it. The film is cringe, but even more cringe is people seriously believing that people emulate what they see in films. I loved Requiem for a Dream, particularly Harry and Marion. I didn’t end up becoming a prostitute of stealing my mum’s TV for heroin money, funny that. It’s a weirdly conservative idea that liberals have for some reason adopted, that “films cause violence,” etc. That’s not what happens at all, and people who are prone to being in abusive relationships often have major issues themselves (I should know, I end up in toxic friendships from time to time due to the time with my abusive mum making me think certain things are okay when they aren’t/forgiving things that really go over the line and even thinking I’m the only one who’s done something wrong, when the other person clearly did wrong too, and in some cases, deliberate damage.) In my case, I have to resolve the issues that make me attractive to particularly female narcissists, which I suspect have to do with my mum being one/my experience living just under her and having no one else to model what a healthy relationship with other women should be like. Add bullying/isolation to that, and I also have underdeveloped social skills, so in theory, I know what to do, but I am afraid to take action if it involves talking to people. So, a film like this can’t “make” you think you can fix someone. If you don’t have the family history of abusive dynamics and grew up in a normal/healthy/loving home, the chances of you getting into an abusive relationship are pretty low (it can happen, but chances are you know how you should be treated and you don’t have major self-esteem/isolation/trauma-related mental health issues the predator can learn and later use against you.) You have to have some vulnerability, because a predatory person won’t pursue anything with someone they can’t manipulate or exploit. It’s like animal predation - they select the sick/frail ones/alone ones, because the strong ones will run or defend themselves/have a support network to defend them (and that’s another thing, if you share friends, the manipulator will absolutely turn them against you by telling them lies.) So, TL;DR films don’t influence much of anything. Life experiences do. There are patterns to these things that Tumblrinas, with their limited understanding of psychology, don’t understand. So, while this film is absolute garbage, it’s just a story. You need to calm down. I’ve actually been in highly abusive dynamics (mostly family and some friendships, although I did have one guy I was talking to/romantically interested in show signs of being pathologically controlling, but it stands), and the film is just a film. It has no bearing on real life.
I think one of the worst things in the movie is how Lee says "Oh but if you actually date him, i will literally never talk to you again." in such a casual way. That guy is a terrible person. Every protagonist here goes straight to hell.
That terrible message: "Her love will save him, he'll no longer have anger issues because of her pure love" *is bullshit* the next thing he's going to beat up when he gets absolutely mad, it's going to be her... I mean there are red flags everywhere! This shouldn't be considered as the perfect and ideal love interest! That control and manipulation he inflicts in her is already violence!
I still don't get how Noah got accepted to Harvard.. the movie never showed not even a short clip of Noah either being good at whatever sport he's supposed to be doing or being academically capable to get into an Ivy League school..
Did you guys know that this movie was actually a fanfic from wattpad? So like a 14 year old girl probably wrote this, and netflix decided to make it a movie
I can’t get over that she looks like a child next him, the car scene, and that his own brother was convinced he hit her.... looks like Lee was implementing that “rule” to protect her all along
The fact that she's supposed to be a high schooler and they are sexualizing her this much is just weird... at least in other bad teen movies the sex scenes and stuff don't show anything.....but this....
Yes, high schoolers are already having sex but that is not a good thing. Even as a young child people tend to think that they can think rationally but even with a good upbringing it's difficult to be sure. How can a person have they right to agency when they are not developed enough to understand what is going on around them. It's hypocritical to condemn terrible things like statutory rape and pedophilia, but not sex under a certain age, which is debatable but probably above 18

Well it’s in the rules not to wear a short skirt. Why should she get let off from doing that, because she got sexually harassed? At the end of the day she broke a rule too
@@shisah5544 True, punishment where punishment's due. I honestly would be one of the people complaining about the skirt even if she wasn't harassed (it's a school with uniforms, of course there's a code), but I should've added on how the boy was off the hook. You're right to call it out, they're both breaking rules, so I'll rephrase with- "and he gets away with a slap on the wrist? yeah that's about accurate"
That rule's there because of pervy teachers looking at their female students legs. It's the fault of the teachers for looking. They should stop looking. The students shouldn't have to cover up just so the teachers don't feel tempted to look.
Wait till they add on the Wattpad that Ellie and Noah get married and he continues to abuse her and send her on this emotional roller coaster until they go through a messy divorce with a dramatic court scene and everything.
@@kitkatcarebear7170 Oh lol. I could totally see that besides the divorce. I got a feeling Ellie's too soft spokened to even come up with a divorce. Lol
Red flags that Noah does that girls should avoid: Viciously makes her jealous Bosses her around Fights and harasses people Social Distance towards El Plays cat and mouse with El's emotions Violent Manipulative Controlling Overbearing Refuses them to take responsibility His little brother is no different either I guess abuse runs in their family
@Joshua J not to mention they're reinforcing the idea that you can change someone through the power of love, which is the root of many abusive relationships in real life.
"it's okay guys he said PLEASE" he _may_ be a sociopath with possessiveness issues and tendencies to going hulk at the slightest provocation but he has *_manners_*
I think it was heavily implied that Noah was frequently hurting Lee, which is why Lee was truly so upset by Noah’s relationship with Ellie. 🤔 If this has been pursued, it could have been a much darker, better film.
Kathryn Lroh so wut u mean is...this movie could’ve been a pretty decent psychological thriller but...was turned into to...a..shitty wannabe teen drama...OH I FORGOT AND BASED OFF A WATTPAD
It sucks that they do this because there’s a lot of physically and emotionally abusive guys out there like Noah (but not always as “good looking”) that young, impressionable girls relate to being with or wanting. movies and shows like these pretty much romanticize Noah and Lee’s toxic behavior with happy endings which teens think they’ll get too. :/
Noah was absolutely abusing her like this movie is horrible because its normalazing abusive relationships. Because of this movie young girls are gonna think that what Noah is doing is okay, when its really not okay and Elle was stupid.
Through years of training, Noah has developed the ability to generate a black hole in his stomach at will, enabling him to shrink whenever the plot demands it.
I think the younger brother was the creepiest. He tried to subtly control his friend’s relationship and was furious with her for going out with his brother...and why?? Because “she was the one thing his brother didn’t have” 😐 This whole movie is so weird!
i agree but i do get how he didnt want her to date him. he was always in the shadow of Noah and he was the only thing he didnt have, as Lee said, and now he DOES have it. but its also on Elle that she didnt say "hey im dating your brother" right away, and talked to him about it. Overall, Noah, Elle, and Lee are all insufferable people.
Without being controlling, I totally get why people don't want their friends dating their siblings. My brother has dated a few of my friends, and I am no longer friends with them. Not my choice either, they just didn't want to come over anymore because "they might run into my brother". And didn't want to see me because I "reminded them of him". Etc. Etc. When they'd come over to hang with me, they'd either hang out with my brother instead, or he'd join us. Its also weird to have your friend knowing what your sibling is doing at all times. It's very intrusive. And vice versa. I dated a few of my brother's friends. Same sort of deal. My brother and I share tons of friends, and we all like to hangout. But it's nice to be able to have friends that your DONT share. It also makes you feel less significant in your friend's life. You don't know if they're coming over to see you, or your sibling. And the 3 of you hanging out feels weird ? Sharing isn't always caring. The brother in this film went about it in an INSANE way, but also, growing up under a golden boy can be difficult. It's likely his parents constantly compared him, his peers would as well, and the teachers definitely did. My brother is an actual genius, and in school teachers would constantly tell me how much they "expected" from me, because he was so intelligent. He was an All-star athlete, and helped our team to maybe district championships. I am a potato. And now he's in the armed forces, and serving our country. My parents couldn't be more proud. All I can say is, I'm super happy he has a gf now that isn't one of my friends. I've lost enough of them. And he lives far enough away, that I'm not constantly compared to his "greatness". :P needless to say I sympathize with the brother 😂, but he's also a whiney cuck the whole movie. In all my situations above, I am insanely proud of my brother. I love him, and spending time with him. And I even introduced the girls he ended up dating. And if they couldn't be friends with me after they broke up, that's on them. :P I guess they weren't great friends to begin with right ? #endrant
If he was like "I don't want you dating my brother cause he's violent, has anger issues, and is a player" then fair, I would be like "Okay valid, I wouldn't want my friends dating my siblings if they were like that because I want my friends to have a good partner" but his reason was so dumb, like ???
I made an entire powerpoint presentation highlighting everything wrong with this movie so my sister (who loves it) could finally be forced to see the truth
@Demilovatoismyqueen Yeah but I do feel bad for the 14 year old girl. Of course her writing isn't going to be amazing and it'll be cliche. She is probably getting a lot of hate, when all she was doing was writing. I hope she's okay
I will never understand why the height difference is so god damn uncomfortable to watch.... jist the way he has to bend his bacj when they are kissing egwgwggsgs
actually, joey king is the average height for a woman (5'4 - not tall, but not that short). the guy who plays noah is 6'4, giving them a whole foot height difference. they really should've cast someone shorter/someone on the younger side so it didn't look like they had a 10+ year age gap.
Speaking from experience, if anyone you're dating says they're "wired" like that for being a psycho, absolutely believe them and don't think you can change them. For your safety. This movie should not target teenage audiences who may be influenced to think it's okay to be in an abusive relationship. Shitty movie shouldn't exist.
I found the teen drinking a little creepy. All these kids drunk, unsupervised, then a teenage girl blacks out and strips. Anyone else bothered by this?
@@mjayachoo Yeah but that doesnt make it ok to show as harmless in a movie. "Oh so she is pregnant after that party? Nah, no one will care if she gave her consent or not, people dont think that much."

I think it's supposed to be that it's an old skirt she outgrew... but like that skirt is massively too short. If she just out grew it I'm not sure she would be able to get into it.
@@MissCaraMint Which is weird, since it's the exact pattern of her school skirt, but assuming she's worn that uniform since grade school... yeah, maybe. But you're still right: If it was just an old skirt, that was so short you could see her panties, she'd have to have grown so much there's no way her it'd fit her current hip circumference.
@@mynameisreallycool1 If it's such an old skirt that her legs grew THAT MUCH longer than the intended length of the skirt, how was she even able to put it on? Her waist/hip circumference should also be much too large than the circumference of the skirt.
What's also terrifying is right after he slams his hand on the car and yells for her to get inside with the most threatening voice imaginable, he doesn't even take her home or somewhere where she'll feel safe, but to a secluded area where they're both out of the view of any witnesses and it's just the two of them. That's a girls worst nightmare. The movie tries to play this moment off as a romantic kick-starter, but to women, this scenario ends with us in a body bag and a nationwide search.
exactly. I'm running from any guy who tells other guys that they cant go out with me and then goes as far as to beat them up if they try and go on a date with me. Psychopaths!
I always tought it's kinda creepy when she's passed out and he takes her to his room, like wouldn't it make so much more sense to take her to Lee's room...?
That car scene triggered my PTSD . Couldn't continue watching after that. I can't believe people find it cute and romantic. Trust me it's not cute when you are at the receiving end.

SO MANY ALLUSIONS TO NOAH BEING AN ABUSER a) Nobody in that girl's life wants her to be in a relationship with Noah, although they say that it's her choice, they actively tell Ellie she should stay away from him. b) When Lee walks in, why the hell would he immediately jump to his BROTHER HITTING A GIRL IN THE FACE SO HARD THAT SHE BLED unless that's something he would be capable of? 3) Noah clearly gives no shits about consent. He beat those guys up because he's extremely possessive. 🐄) SHE DIDN'T WANT TO GET IN THE CAR, SHE WAS THREATENED. Noah repeatedly resorts to yelling and violence to get his way. e) Noah's reason for being obsessed with Ellie is that she won't fawn over him. He is a narcissist.
Sure, I thought it was common knowledge that teenagers absolutely love rules. They love rules, they love following rules, that is what teenagers are known for. Is it not?
I had a few self-imposed rules, but then again I was (still am in the uni) the insufferable know-it-all of the class. So I guess I’m weird. My main rules are pretty reasonable though: 1) Meth, not even once. 2) Don’t get arrested (I need my record to be squeaky clean to be able to work in my field). 3) Don’t start a relationship just so you wouldn’t be alone. That’s how you end up with the first loser you see and later wonder how you missed all those red flags. Learn to live with yourself first and don’t settle for a sub-par partner. 4) No MLMs or any other pseudoscience BS.

Almost every Wattpad bad/punk boy is a controlling, manipulative abuser with anger issues. They also flirt and sleep with every girl they can, but are oddly possessive of the protagonist. It’s weird.

Feeding girls/guys the “I can change you” tripe is what encourages people to stay in abusive relationships. This movie is awful
well technically you can take part in changing em although its a gamble.

Invalid Opinion Yeah I get that, it’s been around for a long time but most of the time the movie clearly states that relationships like that are not okay but recent movies like this make it look like it’s okay
raxahax Sexual harassment was painted as wrong, though.
That’s not what happens at all, and people who are prone to being in abusive relationships often have major issues themselves (I should know, I end up in toxic friendships from time to time due to the time with my abusive mum making me think certain things are okay when they aren’t/forgiving things that really go over the line and even thinking I’m the only one who’s done something wrong, when the other person clearly did wrong too, and in some cases, deliberate damage.)
In my case, I have to resolve the issues that make me attractive to particularly female narcissists, which I suspect have to do with my mum being one/my experience living just under her and having no one else to model what a healthy relationship with other women should be like. Add bullying/isolation to that, and I also have underdeveloped social skills, so in theory, I know what to do, but I am afraid to take action if it involves talking to people.
So, a film like this can’t “make” you think you can fix someone. If you don’t have the family history of abusive dynamics and grew up in a normal/healthy/loving home, the chances of you getting into an abusive relationship are pretty low (it can happen, but chances are you know how you should be treated and you don’t have major self-esteem/isolation/trauma-related mental health issues the predator can learn and later use against you.)
You have to have some vulnerability, because a predatory person won’t pursue anything with someone they can’t manipulate or exploit. It’s like animal predation - they select the sick/frail ones/alone ones, because the strong ones will run or defend themselves/have a support network to defend them (and that’s another thing, if you share friends, the manipulator will absolutely turn them against you by telling them lies.)
So, TL;DR films don’t influence much of anything.
Seriously, that shit was inexcusable. Lee is an awful person.

Fuck i got triggered from that scene and i might not watch this movie because i was in a relationship with a guy who is as possessive as Noah
"even though she was just sexually harassed, elle is still punished for wearing a short skirt"
yeah that's about accurate
Well it’s in the rules not to wear a short skirt. Why should she get let off from doing that, because she got sexually harassed? At the end of the day she broke a rule too
@@shisah5544 True, punishment where punishment's due. I honestly would be one of the people complaining about the skirt even if she wasn't harassed (it's a school with uniforms, of course there's a code), but I should've added on how the boy was off the hook. You're right to call it out, they're both breaking rules, so I'll rephrase with-
"and he gets away with a slap on the wrist? yeah that's about accurate"
On the bright side the guy also got punished
That rule's there because of pervy teachers looking at their female students legs. It's the fault of the teachers for looking. They should stop looking. The students shouldn't have to cover up just so the teachers don't feel tempted to look.
@@Xehanort10 That skirt was so short it was showing her underwear, you stupid kid. Grow the fuck up.

Why are people romanticizing noah and elles toxic relationship it’s so messed up and Noah is such a creep honestly
"If he has a decent jawline, then it's not a crime"
It sucks that they do this because there’s a lot of physically and emotionally abusive guys out there like Noah (but not always as “good looking”) that young, impressionable girls relate to being with or wanting. movies and shows like these pretty much romanticize Noah and Lee’s toxic behavior with happy endings which teens think they’ll get too. :/
Noah was absolutely abusing her like this movie is horrible because its normalazing abusive relationships. Because of this movie young girls are gonna think that what Noah is doing is okay, when its really not okay and Elle was stupid.

About the skirt, couldn’t she just have worn the skirt on top of the ripped pants? That’s what I would’ve done
And why did she not another skirt
Or shorts? Like the OMG girls?
Also, why couldn’t she have put on leggings?
Or literally wear anything else. Even if she'd get in trobule for not wearing uniform, it's still better than wearing a skirt-belt
in preparation to kiss ellie, noah must strategically fold his body to decrease his height by roughly three feet
Through years of training, Noah has developed the ability to generate a black hole in his stomach at will, enabling him to shrink whenever the plot demands it.
@Aaliya Is that the name of his Kekkei Genkai or what jutsu is this?
I think the younger brother was the creepiest. He tried to subtly control his friend’s relationship and was furious with her for going out with his brother...and why?? Because “she was the one thing his brother didn’t have” 😐 This whole movie is so weird!
i agree but i do get how he didnt want her to date him. he was always in the shadow of Noah and he was the only thing he didnt have, as Lee said, and now he DOES have it. but its also on Elle that she didnt say "hey im dating your brother" right away, and talked to him about it. Overall, Noah, Elle, and Lee are all insufferable people.
It's not weird.. I totally understand that and there was already their "rules"
#endrant
I mean they are bestfriends and I wouldn't want my bestfriend since I was a baby dating my brother
@@frey5218 i think its cute to have a pact with friends
If he was like "I don't want you dating my brother cause he's violent, has anger issues, and is a player" then fair, I would be like "Okay valid, I wouldn't want my friends dating my siblings if they were like that because I want my friends to have a good partner" but his reason was so dumb, like ???

actually, joey king is the average height for a woman (5'4 - not tall, but not that short). the guy who plays noah is 6'4, giving them a whole foot height difference. they really should've cast someone shorter/someone on the younger side so it didn't look like they had a 10+ year age gap.

Why does she not have the skirt that goes with her uniform, but she DOES have the stripper halloween outfit version of the skirt that goes with her uniform?
Because *the plot demands it* .
It's an older skirt that she grew out of. She even outgrew her pants too I think (hence why they ripped).

SO MANY ALLUSIONS TO NOAH BEING AN ABUSER
a) Nobody in that girl's life wants her to be in a relationship with Noah, although they say that it's her choice, they actively tell Ellie she should stay away from him.
b) When Lee walks in, why the hell would he immediately jump to his BROTHER HITTING A GIRL IN THE FACE SO HARD THAT SHE BLED unless that's something he would be capable of?
3) Noah clearly gives no shits about consent. He beat those guys up because he's extremely possessive.

Why does everyone in this movie have rules? Does Hollywood think teenagers just go around making rules for themselves?
Literally not a single normal being does that.
People at that age want to be as free as possible, this rule list shit is stupid.
My main rules are pretty reasonable though:
1) Meth, not even once.
