Imagine just standing in your school's hallway, minding your own business, and someone yells "PORN! I WAS LOOKING AT PORNOGRAPHY, GEEZ! IS THAT WHAT YOU GUYS WANT TO HEAR?" S+ tier parenting right there
I'd give it maybe two seconds of thought and then be like "yeah, of course they are, it's high school" and then start running because I'm late to math again
Yeah, that seems more in touch with reality than anything else, minus the addiction. "Hey, let's just avoid trying to discuss it or getting him any kind of help, maybe it'll go away!" Honestly, though, the dad was just... kind of creepy. I'm sorry.

Do people honestly sit down and go “Ok, we want to spread some awareness about all this bad stuff going around. We could make a good short movie or ad and put it on tv or we could make something so horrible that it causes people to commit toaster bath”
I think this movie came out in the early 2000s, if I'm mistaken I apologize, but it was kind of a different mindset, especially when it came to the internet. Many parents were intimidated by it and feared what it had on it
I believe that it was released in 2005, but you'd be forgiven for thinking that it's a relic from the 1990's, since its technology and message are a tad dated by today's standards.
LMAO my dad was the same way when he caught me watching pr0n. Dude was like "bruh that's pretty tame." He then offered to get me an escort if I gave him $200. My dad was a lonely mess after his divorce lol.
In costa rica we had these duck like birds that were small, and one day the big ass (actual duck) decided we wanted to hit one of the little things, and ended up breaking her leg that never heal right. You always new it was her because she flew with the one leg fully extended
Its a movie written by someone who doesnt understand the internet, porn, young men, or anyone outside of their local evangelical church group. None of whom are under 50.
@Raja Thyagaraj well done, man - totally agree. Plus, porn as an outlet isn't a problem in itself - origin and maybe content could VERY MUCH be issues, but at this stage, the bulk of what's out there - even though it's mostly pretty fake and soulless in itself - is hardly genuinely harmful. Real sex very quickly acquaints people with how unreal most porn is. Even without being sexually active, I'm pretty sure most people know porn is NOT reality, on the whole. Some people make a lot of fuss about nothing...
@White Boy Did you know that couples watch porn together, sometimes to get in the mood? Right, you've never actually been with anyone before so you wouldn't.
Can we talk about how this movie starts to imply that the addiction could be the mothers fault for putting so much pressure on the son to be an athlete and get a scholarship, and yet it just abandons that plot line completely and portrays her as always being in the right; effectively implying that her questionable parenting is fine and it really is all his fault for not wanting abstinence. This is exactly the type of messed up message this movie's target audience would take away anyhow.
Part of the problem with the parenting is the mom and dad aren't on the same page when it comes to sex. Now, I know many parents aren't, but it would have helped if the parents together would have sat down together to talk to main character and his brother about sex. Somebody else also reviewed this movie and mentioned the addict in the movie might have had ADD or something like it with how he gets so much going on at once when he's watching porn.
I mean, it's the point of EVERY Lifetime movie, isn't it? Give parents endless imaginary outside threats to be scared of so that they can justify their questionable behavior.
"The messed up message the target audience would take" sorry that you think a form of addiction is a joke but it doesn't make it any less real. It's actually disgusting that this comment section and video make jokes out of very real things. I guess if they put that they got dopamine fixes from a needle in their arm, it'd be taken more seriously.
@@buuny2233 If we do the math: He was in Neverland for over 100 years for rejecting love for fantasy! It all makes sense, and he's recovering really well, all things considered!
I know this was years ago but when I realized who it was I literally freaked out. I love that Peter Pan movie, had a major crush on the actor and seeing this was not what I expected.
The mom is so invasive towards her son. She’s so obsessed with his development that it actually makes me uncomfortable. Her taking away internet access and both the parents ganging up on him was terrible.
Real talk, I'm the kid in the first few seconds of this video. I played the younger brother who sets up the parental block and I am absolutely blown away by the fact that someone watched this insane movie in 2019! I can't even find a copy.
It was made and released in the early 2000s but it really does have that distinct 1980s or 1990s feel. But then all Lifetime movies sort of have that same tone about them.
An antiporn film starring an actress, Kelly Lynch, who has done full frontal nudity in other films. The only way this could get more hilarious is if they had cast Traci Lords.
While it's admirable that the film makers wanted to spread awareness of internet porn, it might have worked better if they were actually allowed to SHOW anything explicit or provocative. Also, Justin's mother, who lectures him about the evils of porn, is played by Kelly Lynch, who has done nudity in other projects. Oh, the irony is strong with this one!
I mean, to play devils advocate, she might have had a change of heart while unable to delete her internet history. Bunch of those "virginity is cool" dudes fall either under lost it young so now they are "knowledgable and experienced" and want to warn other people or never found the one but feel bad about it (or if we want to be very cynical, increase sexual tension between young people so they have lower expectations and low experience in what is actually considered good sex once they start doing it)
Yeah this girl would be either bullied or child protective services would be called to look into her home life because she's a teenager I.e. a MINOR. She would be a victim of child p*rn.
Not exactly. The APA doesn't recognise porn addiction specifically, but it does recognise behavioral addictions - a more general class, which could include porn addiction.
@@vylbird8014 Of course the APA recognizes porn addiction as a thing. Shit like the DSM are guide lines for the diagnosing of mental disorders. It is not some sort of rule book for the APA to follow like a fucking religion. They obviously didn't think that porn addiction was prevalent enough to be recognized in the DSM. Since for the DSM to recognize something requires time and research.
Zedd, the ChibiGuru my brother had a friend whose sisters cousins best friends brother injected one marijuana for the first time on his birthday and he accidentally clicked on pornhub and his nose exploded and shot bones into his brain and he DIED!!!
"Don't worry, Mom, we were playing a video game where you murder innocent people, steal cars, and go on errands for the Mob---we weren't looking at lady parts!" is such a perfectly and uniquely American-sounding excuse that it crosses right into satire.
Also the fact that in Grand Theft Auto, you can literally make your character have sex with prostitutes, with said sex scenes typically being a lot more graphic than any of the "porn" we actually see in this movie.
The biggest flaw of this is that it assumes that the porn is the source of the addiction. It's not, anyone who understand addiction will tell you that *all* addiction is just a substitute for something else a person is psychologically lacking in their life
Honestly that’s the problem with a lot of people trying to take down things like drugs, they’re attacking the supply but not lowering the demand so it doesn’t matter how many suppliers they take down since demand will always be so high a supplier will rise to meet that demand
@@jakethepillowsnake5302 I am no science expert nor have I ever used drugs(thank God) but if binge watching stuff or simply using the screen for a long time at the cost your other activities count as addiction, then yes, I am experiencing it.
I have always been fascinated by Lifetime movies. If you were in an American middle school or highschool in the early 2000's and you didnt have those stupid abstinence only classes (or maybe they showed them there too) you at least saw one Lifetime movie in health class. The one I remember clearly was "She's too Young" and there was another one on Eating Disorders that I don't remember the title of. Next to being laughable, I always found them rage inducing too, and I didn't really understand why, until I got older. Even though these movies are made for middle age moms, they are made to shame girls. Especially sexually active teenage girls. They also paint the guys as animals that can't control their sexual urges which I am pretty sure insulted boys too. But even when they paint the boys as the villians, they still put more blame on the girls for not "protecting their purity". It is insulting, and damaging. I really hope they don't show shit like this anymore in schools.
i was pleasantly surprised by my sex ed class, it dealt with t h e g e i s a n d t r a n s g e n d e r s, but with a good level of respect and reality (i'm trans - nb to be specific). it wasn't simply abstinence only, but it didn't explore contraceptive options as much as i would have hoped it would have, so when someone told me xe got a iud, i had never heard of it, but all-in-all, i would give it a 10/12
@@anterrobang9298 Same here, they spoke about myths and toxic beliefs surrounding purity and virginity in women and also explained being gay or transgender. We had a video on consent too
I did research for that D&D movie for a college class a few years ago. It was based on a suicide that was initially blamed on the victim playing the game, even though it seems like he had actually been dealing with depression for a long time and D&D was actually probably a way to cope with it. The people investigating the suicide eventually dismissed the initial theory that D&D was the cause, but the media had taken the original theory and just ran with it like it was fact. And then someone made a movie based on it. Good job, everyone involved in making that movie, for capitalizing on someone's depression-fueled suicide and alienating generations of other children with mental issues who would turn to games like that to otherwise cope. I also found several research papers that suggested that playing roleplaying games genuinely does help to combat depression by giving the players a medium to use to connect with other people. So they genuinely made the problem worse by making that movie. That movie makes me so mad.
It's like people always forget how some people use videogames to vent frustration or something, a filosophy teacher once said that he used to think the doom demons were his teachers and he relieved stress that way, and now he's a teacher Himself, and it was simply a way to get over a momentaneous thing, that without an outlet could have been worse
Wasn't it also discovered that the guy didn't commit suicide after all, and just showed up randomly later with nothing actually wrong with him? Someone did a video on that a while ago but I can't remember who.
@@tirsden Not that I know of. You might be thinking of a different incident, or how he had shown up out of the blue at a friend's house after disappearing for a few days, acting strangely, before the suicide.

@@OceanMetTheSky Exactly. Criticizing the film is one thing, but undermining the real effects of porn addiction is an entirely different and unnecessary thing.
Thank you for the “could you imagine if the genders were reversed?” thing. WAAYYYYY too many people think it’s fine if it’s even a woman in her 30s with a 15 year old boy. Even though boys begin puberty on average two years after girls, so by any kind of actual logic it should be WORSE if it’s a teenage boy and a woman. THANK YOU! Also, Lifetime doesn’t understand how humans work.
It always shocks me when people who would criticise Christians (rightly so, in my opinion) for shallow thinking on such issues, succumb to the same malaise when it comes to their own pet peeves.

What's so interesting about this movie, is how effectively it actually depicts how terrible parenting can isolate and negatively affect a kid, and how such a parent could rationalize to themselves how it can't possibly be their fault. The mom is the source of almost all the problems in this movie. She is so callous, so judgmental, so unwilling to actually care for her kid that it's actually scary.
These parents need to learn that quitting addictions is hard and that its gonna take more from them than "YOU NEED TO STOP" to get him to quit. Addictions are extremely hard to quit and that going cold turkey isn't always the best choice. Sometimes slowly easing out of it with love and support from family will help, also a therapist is a good choice too because there usually is some psychological stuff behind addictions. (Im not saying that what hes looking at is wrong or bad but like addictions to anything are always bad lol)
This makes me furious tbh; porn addiction is a real thing that makes people’s emotions and relationships suffer And sometimes affects people’s interest in actual sex or ability to ‘perform’ sexually. There are plenty of other negative effects that porn can have on people who aren’t even addicted. Also, tons of the free content online is problematic because it’s not consented to (sometimes secret filming, sometimes revenge porn), involves under age individuals, etc. If a movie wanted to seriously educate the public about how porn can have a negative impact in some cases or that a good chunk of porn shouldn’t even be online, great -but this bullshit is just vague stereotyping and doesn’t ever bother explaining why it’s ‘bad’. 🙄🙄🙄
Kirsten Ashley An actual good movie in the style of requiem for a dream talking about the dangers and crimes of the porn industry or/and porn/masturbation addiction could actually be really good and have a good impact on people. On the meantime, we have... whatever the hell this is.
This movie focuses on premarital sex christian morals, not about how the porn industry is terrible. I dont even think the directors care about how sex workers are treated or that it ever crossed their minds.
Ivy Luna Oh, I’m aware. It’s just such a frustrating thing to see religious fear mongering like this being done in such a way when porn addiction is an actual problem and they could and should have focused on the real, secular issues if they actually wanted to help people and spread some awareness. The porn industry’s other issues are a whole other topic, though very important as well (so I would personally add them to any production focused on the negative sides of porn). But I’m sure you’re unfortunately correct in thinking they likely don’t even care or give a second thought to sex workers’ safety and treatment since they just see them as whores and sinners.
hcaz I dunno if CJ has any recommendations, but Spoony did a great review of it, you know, before he became a trash fire :S the film’s called Mazes & Monsters, so check out the review when you have a moment.

In my early twenties my friends would just leave the worst (worst as in least sexy not like kinky) porn they could find going as a joke. Like ones with stories but they were horrible, or ones where the actors clearly had STDs like warts, or really unattractive actors.
My friend used to work at Goodwill, and believe it or not, people would attempt to donate porn. Obviously Goodwill can’t put that on their shelves, so she used to bring it home. Every Saturday night, four of us would get together and watch whatever the “Goodwill special” was. As a result, I’ve seen some crazy shit. It was a really good time though, and now I don’t even blink if people tell me theyve watched porn in a group. It was a regular activity for me.
I like how all the familiar problems and social pressure is completely ignored and every blame is put on him looking at bra covered boobs. The whole story could be about how terrible peer pressure and familiar pressure can be but no, porn is the real problem here...
The child needs to be given freedom appropriate to how much the child can handle. The responsibilities increase as the child matures enough to handle that level of freedom without supervision and limits. Too many parents teach the children nothing and then expect by osmosis, the child to adopt their values and rules which of course does not happen and then the parents or guardians act surprised. All families transmit their values and rules and norms to their children and if not intentionally, then unintentionally, so talking to child had to happen if one is not going to imitate the surprised parent. What mom and dad or the guardian model for the child counts for more than what they say. This could be a film on 'no clue' parenting.
Well if it's anything like Masterpiece, Koi Kishi Purely Kiss, or Liliana-San, their reaction would be much the same as this. BUT, if it's anything like Taimanin Asagi, Euphoria, or Helter Skelter, they would lose their goddamn minds.
Also they never address the fact that an underage girl has a channel where she acts in a very sexual way. She leaves herself to be in a vulnerable position. She also should not have lied that she was assaulted.

I get that they can't show anything explicit in a made-for-basic-cable movie, but the extremely tame content we get very brief glimpses of makes it seem as though Justin became addicted by viewing nothing worse than what you'd see in the latest issue of Maxim...also, why is it that Diane is so distraught about her older son's porn addiction, yet has no problem with her younger one playing GTA? She also seems to be reliving her past as a successful swimmer through Justin, given her reaction when he places third in that one meet. There's also no clear ending, as we never see Justin work to beat his addiction, get back on the swim team, regain the trust of his family or expose Monica...speaking of which, her promiscuous behavior and violent reaction when Justin turns her down suggest that she suffers from severe trauma due to being sexually abused, and given what network this film was produced for, having Monica as the main character might have made for a more interesting film/premise.
Sometimes even porn addiction can deteriorate your quality of life. If they had handled this better, they might have actually made a point with this movie
The counter point is that most addictions (that don't have direct harm) have the same effects. Getting addicted to porn is no different than getting addicted to TV.
@@dlboss77 I never said addiction wasn't bad. My point is that the news makes porn addiction worse than any other addiction even though the effects are the same as any other addiction.
@@lunamaster123 Well then, I agree with you. It's just that you made that "counter point" when the dude you replied to never made the argument that porn addiction is the worst one in the first place.
@@lunamaster123 well most times addiction is not the reason for strife, but a symptom of something bigger anyway. And that bigger issue is sometimes just plain impossible to fix. People blame drugs, porn, games, the internet, etc. Basically externalizing the problem instead of looking within. Like "porn ruined my son". Well, how about "you did it" and porn just served as a catalyst. This concept is not something that can be easily adapted into a movie, but even when people try to create a straw scapegoat you can still see how reality seeps through that ineffectual attempt. Case in point - this movie.

It's always funny when moral-busybodies who're too busy scrambling for pearls to clutch to actually parent their children in the modern age try and proselytize to other people.
That GTA bit killed me. How can so many people be involved in a project without ONE PERSON saying "uh, guys? About that video game we've chosen as the one to mention in this movie which ostensibly preaches about the dangers of computer-based media on young impressionable minds that said media openly agrees shouldn't be looking at it in the first place..." I like to think that someone in the GTA publicity department somehow got wind of this movie being made, and made a deal to help finance the movie in exchange for one of the best product placement moments in cinematic history.
now that I think about it...I think the message couldv'e been that "these people are NOT prudes." Like...they are fine with most things. Video games themselves are just a fake realease. people KNOW they are fake. But porn has REAL people committing real acts. And though a certain theme may be fake, like role playing..the actual act of sex is done with real people. Which makes a young developing mind think that these things probably are ok. AND while most MAY be seen as ok..there's no denying that choking, spanking, cumming all over your partner, and certain dirty talking......or cat and mouse chase play or "surprise" sex...they MUST be communicated with your partner about. And YOUNG people are NOT the best at communication. And realistically, while the movie goes overboard..a reality is...kids should NOT be watching porn. Cause of all those reasons...and lack of communication I mean...I was the kid smacking asses in school a lot. Pinching nipples...yes, I was basically sexually harassing girls..but girls I knew and obviously was cool with it. Tried that with a girl I barely spoke to and got the black slapped off me lol. Learned real quick. anyhow..... imagine a kid who didn't have my understanding of only "teasing" girls you knew..or more so the idea of knowing when something is out of bounds. Then imagine how I was already forceful, but this OTHER kid is also forceful, doesn't know boundaries AND the ideas he has in his mind are guys just bending girls over and getting it in. Now...think about how many stories you hear about dance nights or prom nights....girls who THOUGHT the guy they were giving it to was ok, but he just "went to another place". NOw...imagine that girl becoming a mom to a middleschool/ high school boy watching porn. SHE knows that he hasn't learned the proper communication skills yet. She knows that he knows a video game is just that. but the people in that porn..they are real people doing real things...and she knows he already mimics movie scenes.... No need to kink-shaming Justin. I mean, isn't it obvious he can't get off without the rush of being caught by his parents? He's caught multiple times, and instead of taking a single precaution after the FIRST time he was almost caught, he makes it easy for them! Justin even set up his monitor with a heavy tilt *towards* the door, leaves the door wide open, keeps a bunch of lights on, keep the computer set up so his back is to the door and the monitors at max brightness... And then, sad and traumatized, Justin is forced back in the closet as his parents shame and browbeat him into closing the door himself.
Given his fantasy about his hot mom asking him to join her for a swim, I'm guessing he wanted her to catch him, inform him that there are much better things than wanking alone... the rest writes itself.

Somebody else also reviewed this movie and mentioned the addict in the movie might have had ADD or something like it with how he gets so much going on at once when he's watching porn.
there was a good writer in the middle of the crew, they wrote that plot line and when the crew saw it, they dumped the writer
I mean, it's the point of EVERY Lifetime movie, isn't it? Give parents endless imaginary outside threats to be scared of so that they can justify their questionable behavior.

Addictions are extremely hard to quit and that going cold turkey isn't always the best choice. 🙄🙄🙄

An actual good movie in the style of requiem for a dream talking about the dangers and crimes of the porn industry or/and porn/masturbation addiction could actually be really good and have a good impact on people.

It's nice to see Lifetime to teach a relevant, useful lesson for teens and adults alike: *never* leave your door open.
I like how all the familiar problems and social pressure is completely ignored and every blame is put on him looking at bra covered boobs. The whole story could be about how terrible peer pressure and familiar pressure can be but no, porn is the real problem here...
Also, helicopter parents. A lack of a sense of privacy, specially for a teenager discovering themselves, can be devastating.

I am a lesbian and so maybe this is why i get upset about words like that. I dont mean to sound like the man hater trope that surrounds us. - but using the phrase vagina safari makes me feel a little sick to my stomach see, what most people call the vagina is the vulva. The actual vagina is way under the lips of the vulva called the the labia. The pleasure point is at the front just under the monds pubis
(under the hood of the vulva.) The vagina is way down deep inside the vulva so, hearing "vagina safari makes it sound like this guy is going to like....legit open her up and get his penis way far in beyond the pleasure points and then be digging around on a safari deep inside her...way deep and it twists my stomach ewww! sounds painful!

Not to mention she’s a teenage girl in high school who runs her own porn site, but the movie completely glosses over it.
Sometimes even porn addiction can deteriorate your quality of life. If they had handled this better, they might have actually made a point with this movie
The counter point is that most addictions (that don't have direct harm) have the same effects. Getting addicted to porn is no different than getting addicted to TV.
@@lunamaster123 You say that like getting addicted to TV isn't bad

I like to think that somebody snuck that in as a joke.
I'd bet good money it's the only game they know.
now that I think about it...I think the message couldv'e been that "these people are NOT prudes."
Like...they are fine with most things.
Cause of all those reasons...and lack of communication
I mean...I was the kid smacking asses in school a lot. Pinching nipples...yes, I was basically sexually harassing girls..but girls I knew and obviously was cool with it. Tried that with a girl I barely spoke to and got the black slapped off me lol. Learned real quick.
