I keep getting asked so the movie at 0:54 is *Not Another Teen Movie.* It's a parody of high school movies (mostly *She's All That* and *American Pie* if I remember correctly). It's very funny, and I would recommend it. I think it's works better as a parody than *Scary Movie,* but that's just me.
I also definitely agree with everyone saying people are going easy on Veronica as well, because she did a lot of the same icky things Sierra did. I would argue, however, that the reason people aren't up in arms about it is because she get's the ending I wish Sierra had. She changes, and fixes everything.
You can stream Not another teen movie on prime video
You mean there are people who havent watched that masterpiece? :O!
julia cudney i
Wait wait wait wait wait......is one of those guys in black face or am I just crazy
no no he's just actually black
"She's got GLASSES! And a PONYTAIL! She has PAINT on her OVERALLS, what IS THAT?!"
that was the point of the film lmao
Anyone know what movie that is?
Fish not another teen movie
Fish it's kinda like scary movie, but it's spoofing like a bunch of teen movies also I'm pretty sure it's written by the same people who wrote scary movie, but I could be wrong tho
It's from Captain America.
Veronica: You hacked into my Instagram And showed everyone my private picture-
Sierra: I wrote a song
Kawaii Blue Gurl
Not even an apology song!😂
Just a damn song😂
A song about herself
“In the end Sierra burgess isn’t a loser,
she’s not even a protagonist.
She’s the villain.”
AYYY ICONIC
At least theres a story in wich the villain wins :P
👍
she was never the protag in the beginning. we were not supposed to route for her. she was a kid who made a mistake, learned from that mistake and apologized. I wish the dude and her didn't end up together and just stayed friends. but i think people hate on this movie way more than it should be. bc its not even that good of a movie.
A protagonist is not by default the 'good guy' of the story, they are merely the character through whom we view the story. Being a protagonist and being a villain are not mutually exclusive
She is not a clown, shes not even the circus. *SHES THE ENTIRE CARNIVALLL*
The most disturbing passage was when she kissed him and he thought it was Veronica... it was... disgusting, and creepy ⊙﹏⊙
Elsa Dunand I actually stopped the movie and never finished it when that happened because I was so creeped out
That’s sexual assault.
Lilac Amaris ikr! Why does she get a pass?
@@sleepyidiot2010 lmao same, I didn't even care anymore because I knew the ending will be shitty if that kiss passed
yeah borderline sexual assault.... and they make his character go ‘this seems familiar’ at the end when he kisses her as if it’s okay. totally the wrong message to give to children and teenagers..
I thought Veronica was going to end up with the guy because she was a dynamic character that actually changed and made an improvement. She also lost her boyfriend and friends and was even screwed over by Sierra, so I thought she would be the one to get the guy
Yes, that's what I thought as well! Unlike Sierra, Veronica actually goes through character development, and is humanized as more than a "mean girl". Honestly, the thing I found the most unbelievable about this movie was how once Sierra writes her song, everything is instantly made right again! Veronica quickly forgives her for hacking into her Instagram account, despite having been majorly screwed over by her, and she even gets together with Jamey, and is hardly ever called out on her horrendous actions!
that would be way bettterrr
If she changed, then she’s a dynamic character, not a static character. Static characters by definition don’t change over the course of the story.
I see your point:))
A M how did Veronica bully Jamey?
. Backstabs and neglects her friends
. Catfishes a guy
. Acts like a creepy stalker
But hey she wrote a song let's all forgive her just like that...NOT!!
and let's not forget
SHE'S👏NOT👏LIKE👏
OTHER👏GIRLS
sorry this is irrelevant but I’m the 666th like
i’m the 777th like🙃.
You also forget her crying and whining "The only reason I can't get a boyfriend is because I'm fat. It clearly has nothing to do with the fact that I tricked Jamey into thinking I was Veronica, got her to mime what I was saying while I was saying it, got her to send him a picture of her holding up her bra strap pretending it was me, pretended that I was deaf and knew sign language in front of his actually deaf brother, then she pushed me in front of Jamey who kissed me thinking I was Veronica." And then later Sierra has the nerve to get angry and jealous over Jamey kissing Veronica even though that's her plan backfiring on her.
it doesnt matter if we forgive her her not, the dude and the girl and her friend forgave her.
And sunflowers are pretty, they just have a different charm. She's more like a weed, or a fungus, one of those that suck from the roots of plants.
😂😂💀
BRO YOU SAID A WEED OR IM WEAK A FUCKING FUNGUS IM DYING!!
Nissy omg so accurate. Good job finding that
Nissy I was gonna something like that
Nissy Or maybe those orchids that can’t photosynthesis on their own so they leech of other plants
I hated the ending. Especially when Sierra and Veronica just awkwardly stare at each other until Veronica hugs her and they’re friends again? Wtf?
That was the best part. It should have ended like that instead of the love story.
@@lisah8438 Or even better...
Make *them* the love story.
Veronica ended up being my favorite character at the end of the movie. She was the only one who became a better person, and her friendship with Sierra was the only good thing that came out of the film.
Emilee Jean exactly. And I wanted Veronica to end up with Jamie. Sierra was just pissing me off
I agree!!! It should've been called Veronica whateverherlastnameis is a loser
Samee
Sierra did Veronica dirty by sending out her private photos all over social media she really is the villain I can't believe I never realized that before when I watched the movie and by the way Jamie was into Veronica not her
Yess
Additionally unrealistic: Noah's character forgiving Sierra completely and never chastising her properly for what she did or stressing that it was unacceptable
black gay antifa I mean, to be fair, there are some really attractive men who are chubby chasers. That saying, it’s rare, and I agree it’s unrealistic that is just so happens Noah is suuuuuuch a good guy he has no preferences towards the kind of girls he likes
it's very unrealistic because the girl he likes before was COMPLETELY different to sierra
Not everybody have a type and maybe the girls he dated before were more like Sierra, his friends were nerds and Veronica said he was a loser too. And I find the actress really attractive, more in instagram than in the movie, but anyway its so unrealistic that he forgave her so fast and easy.
I would never talk to someone who faked deaf in front of my DEAF BROTHER
What Sierra did to Noah was unacceptable despite her insecurities and stuff. Physical attraction is important too. Maybe he also felt sexually attracted to Sierra, but the fact is that his initial attraction was to Veronica's beauty and thought he was talking to her the whole time.
I actually can't believe that Sierra is the only chubby person in the entire school, or that in tall girl Jodi is the only taller than average in her school, like seriously
I think it kind of fits how alot of teens feel. My teenage sister has self-esteem issues and she pretty much seems to forget that other teens are overweight, single, and other "undisirable traits"too
"You're exactly my type"
Yeah cause every guys dream girl lies, manipulates and gaslights them. Lol

The sad ending you suggested where she would lose it all would have honestly been great. It would have made the movie more human by her facing realistic consequences for the bad things she did. I can't think of any movie of this genre that ends this way so it really would be a breath of fresh air.
but then again, i feel like it would make people hate it either way. in the new slenderman movie, (sorry for the spoilers but i want to make a point) all the characters literally died and made me hate it. tbh i prefer the ending of jamey and veronica together.
Had she had a ending like Dear Evan Hansen it would have been slightly more redeemable
Theirs struck by lightning, and the original ending of 500 days of summer was supposed to that he didn’t end up with any. Usually those endings are changed because executives want happy endings, it’s not always bad but it can be interesting when the person doesn’t get what they want at the end
An ending more like Can't Buy Me Love would have been good, ultimately there's a happy ending but the main character has to do A LOT for forgiveness
Nicole Flores what is Dear Evan Hansen, is it a movie? Is it worth a watch?
was i the only one who felt more chemistry between sierra and veronica than sierra and jamey
Maybe, but I don't think there's a love chemistry if that's what you mean. Because Sierra didn't treat her right and also at the beginning Veronica didn't treat Sierra right either. Sierra publicly humiliated her and uses the excuse "I'm ugly and blah" to justify what she did? Nah nah and also a song just made them besties in the end like what!?
Oof this is a better plot actually
I thought so to!! Not so much at the end though😂
That would've worked out really well.
If they changed the plot a little towards the end^
I think Sierra and Veronica’s growing friendship should have been more emphasized, and they should both lose the guys.
Aysia Andrews I agree they was the best part of the movie
the film had so much potential to do a plot twist where sierra and veronica actually go out instead
YES YES YES THIS when i saw he stood outside i was like LOL FUCK THIS SHIT
What if they fell in love?
Aysia Andrews i think sierra and veronica should’ve fell in love
Don't care if you were bullied, catfishing someone the way she did makes you a terrible person.
Johnathan Korkie ok but she’s a sunflower tho
@@maja7293 xD
I think this movie would’ve been so much better if Sierra didn’t end up with Jamey, but it just ended with Sierra coming clean and her and Veronica being good friends. Like, if it wasn’t really a love story in the end, but just a coming of age story where she learns an important lesson, overcomes her insecurities enough to come clean to Jamey, and finds friendship in the least expected place.
Yeah that's what I was thinking
yeah exactly
this would've been the best ending, even tho i feel like there's girls who would be like "oh my god why is Jamey single at the end??" -_-
YES
OMG YES
the movie had so much potential. the ending was really annoying. if someone catfished me & kissed me without knowing, i'd be disgusted. regardless of someone being unattractive or not, catfishing ruins everything.
Ikr. This passes the wrong message. Catfishing is just nasty no matter what.
As Kennie JD iconically said, she'd be throwing hands and pressin charges
Honestly if the roles were reversed and Jamey was the one catfishing Sierra, it would be an episode of NCIS.

I'd say Veronica, after a campaign of harassment she brought Sierra down to her level and ended up getting burnt on it. That's what happens when you sow distrust and hurt.

Jamey is just a manic pixie dream boy. Kinda rare in films but his character had no actual arc, personality or story to tell. He’s just the boy who walks into Sierras life and turns it upside down, makes it more exciting than day to day living.
she turned her own life upside down tbh that boy did absolutely nothing wrong :'( felt so bad for him that this girl was doing such evil shit playing w his emotions.
omg you're absolutely right, no wonder i couldn't really get behind his character lmao
IKR I was disappointed I didn’t get to see as much backstory, dialogue, etc. with Noah, I just feel like they didn’t do the movie justice, like there should’ve been more or something ya know. And not just because it didn’t have enough Noah.
Plot twist : Veronica is the real manic pixie dream girl and Jamey is just the "prince charming" character, he's just there to look pretty. I agree, he had no depth tbh
that's what love intrests in most teen movies are
The worst part of this is when she fake signed in ASL. that shit is SOOO OFFENSIVE. I'm not about to write a paragraph about it, But in my ASL class that I'm taking I was taught by a deaf teacher and she even said that it's super offensive to fake sign. Thanks for coming to my tedTalk

@@thesilentinterloper9464 How did Sierra get to the point of being so damaged, though? We learn that Veronica has been bullied by her mother, thus she became a bully. This is the root of commenter's sympathy for Veronica as well as the fact that she *begins* throughout the course of the movie to turn herself around. But the same case can be made for Sierra. Sierra has been bullied by Veronica for years. That is why Sierra becomes a bully. It is a story of hurt people turning around and hurting others.

So true! Not all double standards are against women, some of them even support women (like the man vs woman catfishing standard).
@@xarityfan4370 She mentioned that because people would have probably been even more upset if it was a boy and it shouldn't be that way.
@Gloria Smith That would basically be the 80s film revenge of the nerds. It has a scene where the nerd has sex with the popular girl while she thinks he’s someone else…. it’s hard to watch
@@mintscone It was an 80's flick so a lot of questionable things by todays standards were A okay back then (the nude camera scene and mass stereotypes of the characters). Killer D its not rape. It is sexual assault though.
The fact that Jamie was in love with Sierra in the end, is my issue. Not because I don’t think she’s “pretty” or even because of all the bad things she did. I just don’t like it because it doesn’t make logical sense whatsoever. There have been movies and books and even real life situations in which characters find themselves in love with someone they weren’t physically attracted to in the beginning. But in all those books and whatnot this takes time. You see past their looks and become attracted to their soul. Then eventually everything about them attracts you. Even their physical appearance. But in this movie Jamie fell in love with a face and a personality. If he’d started out knowing Sierra was the texter maybe it could have been different. But you expect me to believe that he’s just attracted to her all of a sudden? With no build? No Mam. And he’s also just all of a sudden not attracted to Veronica? Even though she was the faux face of his love interest throughout almost the entire movie? This relationship between Sierra and Jamie wouldn’t last because he never got the chance to fall in love with the real her. He literally saw her words through someone else’s mouth. I feel like I’m real life this relationship would only succeed if it was long distance. That way she could keep him the same way she got him: through text and phone calls. Ain’t no way he just stops associating his love with Veronica just because it was Sierra the whole time. Technically he fell in love with both of them. I guess I just don’t like the way this movie handled his love for her. A big part of love is physical and it would’ve been more believable if we could’ve seen Jamie grow to that point with Sierra. It ruined the entire thing for me. It was basically “oh is that a song I hear? Well I guess I just love you now”. I have other problems with the movie but this was my biggest one.
Wow. It was a pleasure reading your comment. I actually hated the outcome of their relationship and you worded my feelings perfectly. I'm actually writing a short story right now related to this topic and I was wondering if I can copy and paste your comment just for future reference. Sorry if that sounds weird but I just wanted to ask permission isn't of just doing it lol
Go ahead. Thanks for the compliment!
Completely agree
Especially that he went on a date with Veronica, so he did not just love a picture and some texts, he loved Veronica in the flesh and they had chemistry and a good connection
Exactly. Thank you!
yeah this movie was done when she tricked him into kissing her. I felt so uncomfortable watching this scene and couldn't believe the makers of this film didn't feel the same way. It would be a little different if she would have apologized for it and would have had to deal with the consequences but she never does
Nuria H THIS! And what’s more annoying is the double standards with that situation! If the genders of the characters were switched, and it were a guy catfishing a girl and then kissing her ?? PEOPLE WOULD GO MAD! They’d label him as a stalker and a creep! How is this not any different? I don’t understand what was going through the head(s) of whoever wrote this.
Ok I get your point and all
But she didn't exactly trick him to kiss her

@@chrisnicoleofficial the comment on top of mine is saying what im trying to say, it was VERONICA'S IDEA.... sierra asked her not to kiss him, true... but since he was adamant to kiss , veronica pushed sierra to do it ... if anything, its assisted sexual assualt (which doesnt make it any better.....but as i was saying.... it was not Sierra that did it on her own accord)
I agree. And the fact that at the end when Sierra and Jamey actually kiss, he jokingly says to her, “have we done that before?” like he knew she kissed him and he liked it. They really tried to make it a cute thing to kiss a guy without him knowing.

Audrey yeah....OOF
I liked this movie until the super unrealistic ending. Why does she have to end up with the guy at the end? Not only is it sooooo far-fetched (seriously, he would HATE her), but it’s also so cliché and makes me feel the writers think to be happy you gotta get the guy… Would’ve been better if the dude just stormed off at the game and never talked to her again, and instead the ending was about her mending her friendship with Veronica. Way better to be single when you go off to college anyway!
Bren - she ended up with the character because the plot of this movie was taken from Cyrano de Bergerac a play from 1897 where an ugly guy uses a hot guy to speak to the beautiful love of his life until she finds out it’s the ugly dude but she overlooks that “fault” to accept him. That’s why Sierra’s character got the guy.
ThePlumfield but in Cyrano, he doesn’t end up with the girl..he dies alone. Roxanne(the girl) only ever saw him as a friend/cousin. She was disappointed that Cyrano lied
Literally Rei - you’re right thank you for that correction it’s been about 25 years since I read the play but you’re correct he does die from an injury after visiting Roxanne in the convent for 15 years... so sad that on what if I recall their last meeting she realized it was him writing the letters all along... such a tragic story.
Bren makes people think catfishing actually works. It’s wrong and it will always be wrong. Sierra didn’t deserve the guy and to be realistic, the two probably would’ve never ended up together otherwise.
Bren I 100% agree with you.
Veronica should’ve been the main character in the film.
She had a far more developed character and a more interesting perspective to me than Sierra. Being the person who is the ‘dream girl’. With the antagonist-turned-protagonist narrative latched onto that, it would’ve definitely improved.
Yes! I also kind of enjoyed the visual representation of her character arc through her hairstyles. She starts off with neatly styled and structured ponytails, and as the movie goes on and she softens to Sierra, she starts to wear her hair down more. I just thought that was an interesting way to show how she develops. It's probably not unique, I'm no film/media buff or anything, but it's just something I noticed.
Sara Moana F O R R E A L👏
Sara Moana I know right! People see Veronica as perfect, yet Sierra got to see what happens behind closed doors while they were studying at Veronica's house. She's always stressed out, her mum her annoying little no-earred sisters or was it brothers? Who tf knows. Sierra had a better life style at home than Vero, so you're right there. Would have been more interesting if Veronica was the main character.
No, it wouldn't have. We have, like, a million examples of "hot girl is mean but only because her home life sucks" stories. You know how many stories about fat girls who get conventionally attractive romantic partners there are? Like, two.
Callie S You could still have the ending where Sierra gets the guy in the end with my perspective. It’s only because Sierra’s character development was far less developed than Veronica’s that it would’ve made more sense to have her as the main character. If they had given Sierra’s actions consequence (rather than let her be cruel to Veronica when she accidentally kissed him because of her own insecurity) it could’ve made more sense for her to be the main character. Nothing wrong with having an unconventional character getting the guy, it’s more about what they do with the character themselves that matters.
I think this movie is super problematic in ways that it almost makes catfishing something socially acceptable for people to do that do not feel attractive enough, because they feel like pretty people don't give them a chance otherwise. I mean if you are so against beauty standards why sink so low for someone attractive you only seen a picture of and texted in the first place? This movie would have been so much better if Jamie stopped talking to these girls after he found out and just embrace the sisterhood of Veronica and Sierra, cherish the healthy relationship Veronica and Sierra developed and made a scene of them apologising to each other. I also hate how the Jamie character talks bad about super model looking girls and needs to compare them to Sierra, his little sun-flower. You can create movies about empowering women without bashing on other women. I have never felt so creeped out about the stalking actions of the Sierra character. I myself am a girl and if a man would catfish and kiss me without my knowing I would involve the cops no matter how ''sweet' he is on text! I bet pedofiles can be sweet too, that does not justify their pedofile actions.
I literally thought Sierra was pretty in the beginning of the movie until the whole movie was about categorising the actress as ugly. So yeah she is cute, comes from a loving household and has almost perfect grades. Stop bitching about not being a super-model. The majority of people are not models and there can be so many other things in life that can be valuable, like loving parents, having a funny and smart friend like Dan and the choice of going to your dream university. The movie should emphasize on how much more important that is in life than being skinny. Veronica did not have that and she was a child from a disfunctional family being portrayed as hot. Instead the movie gave the curvy girl with complex the dude she stalked and catfished to make her feel beautiful instead of letting her, another child to grow as a person... yay
preach
Also the film tries to make out she's 'fat'. The actress isn't. She is actually a normal size if not a very very VERY tiny bit chubby. She's honestly a beautiful girl, and her excuse for a lot of things is 'I don't look good' when actually that's a lie.
It's like this movie's saying "Consequences? I don't know her"
am i the only person who actually wanted Veronica & Jamey get together AHHHH

Abiay Chol tbh I thought serria didn't deserve him at the end. She catfishes and gets the guy that's wack. I felt bad for Veronica the entire move. She's the one that deserved the guy at the end.
Same but when I finished watching it I wouldn’t have lol
My problem with the song, along with the reasons shown in the video, was that it shifted blame from Sierra to Jamey and Veronica for everything that happened. Like ‘if I was a rose maybe you’d pick me’ as if she ever presented herself as an option to Jamey? Like he never knew her except when she pretended to be deaf, and at that point he thought he was already with Veronica.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jamey say that he probably wouldn't have ever talked to Sierra if he didn't think she was Veronica?
Valeria Martin I’m not gonna lie to you, everything in this movie was such a mess that that very way we’ll have happened (was it at the car??). Either way, the song came first
also she pretended to have a disability in order to continue catfishing someone
I agree completely and they missed a really good opportunity to discuss "beauty" and why it even matters so much. I'm tired of girls and women in movies and shows who are so insecure about how not beautiful they are and then someone says they are beautiful but like??? What if they're not? SO WHAT if they're not? I understand the intention, beauty is subjective and there's no one way to be beautiful, but why does anyone HAVE to be beautiful? Why is it valued so much? Why do we have to make sure every girl and woman feels that they are when they can live just fine without it???? DISCUSS IT, HOLLYWOOD, YOU COWARDS.

Yeah truth is why are teenage Male love interest always dense jocks in some sports team. Sexist much.
Honestly, I think an ending about Sierra and Veronica’s friendship where Sierra DOESNT get the guy would have been good and would fit with the subversive tone the movie’s trying to achieve. Them becoming friends was my favorite part of the movie and I think a conclusion centering around that could address the other shitty aspects if the story well
@TH-cam Ghost *sighs* If only media cared more about positive wlw relationships and would portray them better in shows/media geared towards teens. 😑
it would have been so much better if sierra saw self-worth in herself, became more confident as a result of her relationship with veronica, and set the two of them up together. or just came clean and let the boy go, and move on with her life. now THAT would've been empowering.
It wasn’t THAT bad at first, then suddenly, Sierra got me pissed, and ended up SO unrealistic.
Like, it’ll be so cute if that can actually happen to me, but we all know catfishing doesn’t lead to anything good.
Total bullshit that she got the guy, totally unrealistic.
Lima Bean it’s a movie...
That’s exactly what I thought, when it ended I was like that would NEVER happen ever!!
Actually, it happened to me, but not by me being shady like she was! My hubby was a jock (football & track) and the BEST looking guy at our school, hands down. He was two grades ahead of me. I was in the band, science club, student council, academic team, etc., very studious and quiet, often sat alone or with just one friend at lunch, had no sense of style, wore braces and glasses. Anyway, I knew who he was (cuz everyone did) and was totally intimidated by his gorgeous looks and popularity so I always avoided walking down the same hall he was in, and so he never knew I existed. But a couple years after graduation, my friend mentioned that Hot Guy was his cousin, and I had "glowed-up" by then and gained more confidence and asked my friend to bring his cuz to a bowling alley where I played every Monday with my Bible study group. He did, and Hot Guy defied my expectations that he would be a player or arrogant jerk and instead was super sweet, affectionate, kind, and loyal. Now we're happily married!

IM PERSONALLY OFFENDED
i think the ideal ending would have been no one ends up with Jamey but both Veronica and Sierra apologize to Jamey for deceiving him. I would have cut the whole Sierra cyber bullying Veronica and made it so Jamey catches Veronica and Sierra hanging out and talking after the football game and he is confused because Veronica is the girl he went on the date with, but Sierra is the voice of the girl who he's been talking to. Jamey doesn't end up with either girls, but it's okay and Sierra and Veronica go to Homecoming together as friends. This movie could have put a heavier emphasize on their friendship and Sierra could come to the realization that she'll find her perfect guy one day, one that loves her for her and one who will never make her feel insecure about her physical appearance And Veronica comes to the realization that she'll find her perfect guy one day as well, one that sees beyond her looks. Also a few things in the movie could have been addressed better like how random was the whole "Sierra writing and singing a song"? If the directors were going to make Sierra's song the key to bringing everyone together, it should have been addressed better. We should have had more knowledge that she not only enjoys to sing but is really great at it and is something she wants to pursue. She should have been singing more and writing more or talking about music at the least, but it's just brought up one time and that's it. Also, whatever happened to Sierra finding her "is" it was literally in the trailer so it seemed important to the plotline but correct me if i'm wrong but she never found her "is". It was never addressed. She didn't do one thing that made her stand out for college yet she was accepted into Stanford even though her counselor recommended that Sierra do more. If it was going to be overlooked, that whole plotline should have been cut. And the director/writer made a mistake by having Veronica go to Jamey. She ended up the hero and recieved nothing in return when Sierra got everything for doing nothing. That single act made Veronica the hero and stirred the audience away from rooting for Sierra.
"...but i'm a sunflower" LMaooo
ps. a villain can also be a protagonist. A protagonist has a goal and the antagonist is the person that gets in the way of that goal.
Carl Faust true but it’s better when they don’t try to pass the antagonist off as a protagonist
Problem here is that they wrote Sierra as if she was on the right, and that's the message they were also trying to tell us. "Sierra's actions are OK." There are plenty of mediums that had the antagonist as the main character and pulled it off perfectly. This one wasn't the case.
I think they took it completely differently then anyone would think maybe they ended it how Sierra viewed the story that she was right though she wasn't.
Just An Hermit i agree
Carl Faust perfect example of this done right is walter white. perfect example of this done wrong, sierra :)

Honestly I hated how this movie ended. The whole last half seemed rushed and poorly thought out.
exactly
I barely watched it by walking past my friend watch it, but i agree, it felt rushed at the end
Exactly
it was like one of those cliche teen drama/romance novels on wattpad LOL
This movie was a little above average for me. I just finished it. I was hearing how bad it was on twitter, but it was not that bad other than sierra's personality. She didn't experience that much character development. All she did was write a damn song & is forgiven?? Seriously?
Veronica, Jamey, and Dan were only parts that I liked. At first Veronica was annoying, but she grew out of it. Jamey deserved better than Sierra. Dan was carrying the whole dialogue and I appreciated when he stopped talking to Sierra when she did that BS to Veronica. Realistic. But the ending was so unrealistic! Veronica getting hated because she was dumped? Jamey forgave Sierra completely?
Sierra didn't deserve a happy ending! She lied, manipulated, and other shit. Then she plays the victim. When she started crying to her parents, I felt no sympathy. Like...no. This movie had so much pontential. It would have been better if Veronica was the protagonist.
That would have been worth watching.
veronica shouldnt have forgiven sierra. veronicas just a better person
Unpopular opinion: neither of them deserved to be with Jamey Sierra was manipulative and hurt the people around without a second thought or apologizing and Veronica said and did horrible things to Sierra and never even truly apologized the things she said are unjustifiable and her home life doesn’t defend that
I agree. I think they BOTH screwed up. But every1 wants to blame it on Shannon. Like, NO! It was a 2 part thing, they both played huge rolls in screwing with that boy. But no1 is saying anything about it. Hell, Jamie wouldn't have even gotten Sierras number had V not given it to him in the first place. So technically this whole this is her fault! Bot nooooo she's the victim cuz she lost all her friends. Her friends were fake af to being with 😒😒😒
YESSSSSS I AGREE
@Hibe thank you.
What was the point of having a male lead if neither of them deserved him
OMG YES! That’s what I’ve been saying like in this movie NO ONE IS GOOD! That’s the point! That everyone once in their life does bad thing! They are calling Sierra prick coz “she bullied Veronica once coz she was insecure” but they keep forgetting that Veronica did the same thing/bullied her multiple times in the past coz she had daddy issues... all of these people are making it seem like that the skinny blond girl is the nice one and the other less attractive one is the villain 🙄
did anyone else catch when veronica called sierra a “mouth breather”?? idk i thought they did that on purpose bc she’s from stranger things

I hate the whole ‘ugly/nerd/outcast’ in love with the ‘jock/school babe’ thing regardless of how it plays out. It’s been done to death. Why do the losers always get crushes on the unobtainable? Why can’t they crush on a regular student for once? For people with insecurities, they sure do feel entitled to have the best partner they possibly can, without putting in any of the work.
That hot girl probably puts a lot of effort into her appearance. Make up, skin creams, hair care, clothes that flatter. No one is born knowing all this, it’s something you learn. The hot guy works out, dresses well, etc. Of course sometimes luck plays into it - some people have acne, some people have more or less money and so on. But I know for a fact that it’s the people that make the effort into their appearance that are more likely to have success. No matter how naturally cute you are, we all look like shit without effort (google ‘celebrities without make up’). These losers don’t think they should have to make the effort to get the hottie, and that’s what stinks.
You’re not perfect just because you’re nice. Up your game if you want the best out of life.
Fuck you, appearance doesn't matter only rich people get the hot
girls in real life, people should try
to develop skills and make actual money than wasting time on appearance, which becomes totally irrelevant after your old. "Hot guys" and girls just
Become shallow idiotic flower vases when their older because society works for people who have real intelligence and skills not just idiots who can only talk.
ErERrOr 1101 You probably shouldn’t complain about not being desirable in a superficial sense if there is no effort placed in outwards appearance. Heck, superficial appearance is even massively helpful outside of getting a suitable mate. When you walk into an important meeting or job interview, I am not going in wearing ripped jeans or sweat pants. I am wearing slacks and appropriate clothing for said occasion. If you work with people that you are in direct contact with, you are probably going to do better if you have clear skin as opposed to untreated acne. Sure some people are naturally at a disadvantage, but that is life. Ask nearly any person of color, myself included. When you are at a disadvantage, don’t sit there and complain about it without actively working to improve. Go out and refine yourself until you are the best person you can be. That is likely the main point of the original reply here. The “super hot cheer leader” isn’t just 100% attractive all the time. They likely put effort into appearance and it pays off. Intelligence also happens to be another thing that pays off. Contrary to how movies like to portray, a lot of people generally are pretty attracted to smart people that actually try to look nice. You can be good at multiple things at the same time after all.
Female hypergamy
I agree. Movies are a visual medium, so I think it's easier to simply characters into types of pretty/not pretty, even if most of the time real-life and stage appearance is fabricated. I think it's just supposed to be a wish-fulfillment fantasy, since all of us probably wish we could be with someone "out of our league" at least once, especially in high school when our self-evaluation is low. Almost every ugly/nerd/outcast character gets a hot partner, man or woman, in a high school movie -- and, I think that's just one of the annoying tropes of wish-fulfillment we could probably do without once and a while, especially in a film that's trying to be so...progressive? as this.
@The Allchive everything
Yeah, the ending should have been REALLY different. Sierra should have lost - maybe she could have profusely apologised to everyone as well as sent the song, then Dan and maaaaybe Veronica could've taken her back? But Jamey... she lied to him, assaulted him and pretended to be DEAF to get close to him. There's no way one song would turn that around and make him suddenly wildly attracted to her. Your suggestions for happy endings were waaaaaaay better. I suspect the film makers were trying to make the valid point of "sometimes your own insecurities can mess up your life, even hurting people you care about", but this is completely undermined when Sierra gets what she wants.
100% agreed

Kate Bevilacqua And all it took was a bullshit song
I read how the girl who played Sierra said the point is for people to not like Sierra for her actions. But it was poorly delivered. Also their text conversations were next level cringe
I think that "being insecure doesn't mean someone's actions are justified" should be the actual moral of the story
I heard she tricks him into kissing her and pretends to be deaf and mute. Like wtf that's sexual harassment, ableism and manipulation all in once? Do people even root for this character? And I have major respect for y'all that could make it till the end of the movie👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Quick thing protagonist doesn’t necessarily mean that the character is good it’s just means that the character is the main character. A character can be a villain and still be a protagonist
That's not the main problem. The problem is that Sierra was boring and untreatable(something most teens want). Veronica had better character development which made her more interesting.
if you have an antihero as the protagonist, the movie should treat it that way. instead, sierra is treated as the nice loser girl other people are supposed to root for or relate to. which just isn't the case. she is the bad guy, but the movie actually intends for her to be the good guy.
no shit. The problem is that the movie dosen't treat Sierra as an anti-hero or even a villain, it makes her out to be this poor girl who we are supposed to root for, but she does all this bad things and the movie justifies them all with "oh but she's ugly and insecure so its ok for her to do that". The movie wants us to believe she's in the right and justified when she really isn't
Wow thanks everyone for telling me Sierra is a shitty person and character but I know that

How it should of ended:
They should’ve had Sierra take some space away from Dan, Veronica, and Jamey. She should’ve focused on improving her resume (as they kept bringing that up) and put more effort into school. Then she would slowly get back her friends. First being Dan, which she can apologize to. Then Veronica, where I think a sincere talk and grant jester would’ve helped. Like bringing over some food and all. And she would go to the dance (was it homecoming?) with Veronica as friends. Then I think Jamey should have probably lost all feelings for Sierra. It’s fair. Then have him kinda just checking Veronica out and stuff. Sierra than notices and works to get them together. Because at the end, Jamey gets the girl he was interested in and Veronica gets a boy who would treat her right. Sierra doesn’t loose everything, she still has her two friends and better relationships. Although I think it would be great if they had some other guy check her out before the movie ended, kinda foreshadowing a sequel or just someone else being into her.
Veronica and Jamie had nothing in common, though. He liked her for her looks; Sierra's personality was what truly captured his interest. I feel like neither of them should have ended up with him romantically. Instead, they should have just had Sierra apologize to everyone and have them be friends.
Leo's Thighs Well I feel we didn’t have enough time to actually know if they had something in common, considering Veronica was trying to be sierra. As in she couldn’t show he true self. Also, I mean, it’s not totally wrong that they liked each other for their looks because it’s just basic attraction. And you could see after them texting that night that Jamey liked her personality, except that it wasn’t hers. I just think if the writers wanted to, they could flip the story to say they got together instead of Sierra and Jamey.
Well just because someone supports equality and gay rights, doesn't mean they're gay. I support animal rights, do I look like a fucking alpaca to you?
