Dr. Cliff I have a question for you, please answer. I just went with local Roseville, CA audiologist for programming and fitting my new Resound Omnia 9. Since I followed w/ all your videos, I have a problem accepting her real-ear measurement in which she did not do anything to bring my audiogram graph severe loss in high frequencies below the sound area. She adjusted correctly the rest of my audiogram correctly in low and mid frequencies. But dismissed the fact that my final fitting lack a match between my audiogram and high frequencies area, I saw on her screen. Audiologist answer to my question why she did not match, the answer was that if she replace the enclosed small power rubber dome w/ open one in order to match better high frequencies it will be on expense of loosing more sound. Since my Omnia 9 came without M&RIE she also dismiss the need to get this receiver for my needs (mild loss in the low frequencies to Moderate loss in the mid range and severe loss in high frequencies audiogram). Can you help me understand whether she is right with her choice of dome, not matching my audiogram in high frequencies, dismissing the usefulness of M&RIE? I count very much on your expertise and help, I appreciate. This guy has never reply, it’s a waste of our time listening of his video only without any attention to what his listeners are asking him.
Just getting around to answering your question since I receive hundreds of questions per day. I guess you've moved on though. Too bad, I had some great advice for you.
Very informative video. When researching different styles, I did not research ITE devices as I was concerned about losing wireless connectivity capabilities and fit. There were certain features that are dealbreakers for me. I was also concerned about fit with my left ear as I feel it is more difficult to get the correct balance. Thank you for clarifying the benefits of custom devices and when I am in the market for new devices, I will have another option to explore.
Hey Dr. Olsen, In about a month from now i am starting my traineeship with Sonova and was wondering if you could do a video about what us trainees and students can expect when going down this career path and some helpful considerations to remember as we get closer to the state exams?
Oticon Real 1 doesn't come in a larger size RIC, only "miniRITE" size. The "miniRITE-R" for rechargeable Li-ion battery or "miniRITE-T" for 312 disposable battery. They are the same device other than how they are powered. Unless you mean BTE, which they also offer, but that's not the same as a RIC/RITE (those names are interchangeable). I hope I have not confused you even more :-). Basically if someone is referring to the Oticon Real RIC-R they mean the miniRITE-R version.
I have the Phonak M 90 which I like the aids, but I do NOT like the APP which will switch between hearing settings even after I set them in a custom setting. If I set it and I put it on the charger or I get a notification it will change and continually changing back is terrible especially if I'm on a call at work it makes it almost impossible to recover. I like the Starkey for the APP and the translator. I did have the Resound aids for a short time and liked that app but it didn't have the translator and I did not like the aids. I'm hoping the Starkey Genesis AI will solve my issues.
Typically the BTE has the most options available due to being the largest device. BTE usually receives the latest technology first, then they trickle down to the ITEs. That being said, I only wear ITE half shell. The larger the HA, the more it can offer, though some brands offer most, if not all, technology in their half shells.
I have the 2023 Phonak Audeo Lumity L90 that use the domes. The domes are so big for my ear canal, even the smallest, plus they are very itchy so my audiologist suggested the custom ear mold which I am considering, but she also said I would still have the over the ear piece connected to it with the wire. But I thought once I got the custom mold I wouldn't have to wear the piece over my ear. 😒
The custom ear mold is just a replacement for the dome that you currently wear with your Lumity L90 hearing aids. The hearing aids Dr. Cliff is discussing in this video are custom in the ear hearing aids where the entire device is built into the molded earpiece. That is a different from what you have.

I just don't see why they have different levels. You have to remember they are protected by the FDA from any competition. Users are often forced to buy cheaper technical level, by the advice of the Audiologist, even though they know you will likely need the higher level before the time for update has arrived. I am not sure we, the patients, need the protection of the FDA anymore since the setting can be changed automatically by the AI software. It's a tragedy that 100% of patients, that need hearing aids, don't have them, especially when it probably cost the hearing aid company less to supply one level. Imagine the cost of continuing the supply of old out of date chips. Thanks for letting me rant but it needs to change.
The hardware is the same regardless of technology level. The difference in technology levels is equivalent to purchasing different software packages. You want fancy software? Pay for it. Too expensive? Buy cheaper
apparently that is not always true. I was offered Widex hearing aids and ChatGPT said the second tier down had the old processor and was a lot slower so the second tier did not switch programs automatically. you had to switch by taking your iPhone out and changing the programs manually @@matthewhubbard2702
this is the Widex top levels compared: 1. Channels: The Widex Moment 440 has 15 channels, whereas the Widex Moment 330 has 10 channels. Channels are pathways through which sound is processed. 2. Sound Processing: The Widex Moment 440 uses MySound technology, which is a new sound processing algorithm, providing better sound quality and speech understanding than the Widex Moment 330. 3. Sound Classification: The Widex Moment 440 has more advanced sound classification technology than the Widex Moment 330, which can quickly identify and analyze different sound environments, and can automatically adjust the hearing aid settings to provide optimal hearing performance. 4. Wireless Connectivity: The Widex Moment 440 has advanced wireless connectivity capabilities that offer better sound streaming quality and reduced latency than the Widex Moment 330.

I just got the Starkey half shell in December and I absolutely love them!
Is Phonak's in the ear HAs good as far as battery life goes?

Ah sonova very nice 😁 on top of owning phonak they also own unitron and advanced bionics
What is the difference between Oticon's Real 1 RIC-R and their miniRITE? Just size? Is one preferred to the other? Thanks.

Thanks for the information on the update on hearing aids any hearing aids are weather and sweat resistant like water proof

Which type of hearing aid gives the best performance and options? BTE ITE ITC
