- I have heard of the Mafia game way back in 2010-2011 from one of my highschool class mates, from what I remember it was his favourite game of all time. Since then I went to University then I moved to England and I completely forgot about this game until I made a TH-cam channel and started playing the GTA games. My comment section started flooding with people recommending me this Mafia game and I kept putting it off as I had other games I wanted to play, UNTIL NOW!

The Orginal Mafia came out in 2002 one year after GTA3 this is full blown remake.

So not too far off the intro is set in 1939 while of course the game itself starts in 1930s. The game actually introduces new cars throughout the game along with changes to the world so at the start it does feel very much the 1930s to mid 1930s but by the end the game will feel very early 1940s like you see in the intro.
30:36 You can look at these cards in the menu and they'll provide you with some lore on the character.
So little insight on Lost Heaven, Lost Heaven is a fictional Mid Western City located in the State of Illinois. The city itself is based on a range of locations mostly Chicago and New York with hints of San Francisco. it's not based on a single city so places like Chicago does exist in the Mafia universe along with New York so by no means does Lost Heaven replace any of these cities as it''s unquie enough to be placed alongside them.
GTA series for example does this but cities like Liberty City from GTA IV and Los Santo's pretty much replace New York City and L.A as there simply too similar in design, history and layout. Vice City in the 3D universe did co exist with Miami while the 3D universe Liberty City featured in GTA lll and was showcased in other games like San Andreas was actually based on a range of cities like Lost Heaven meaning New York City may existed in this universe with Liberty City just being another city in the same State. HD universe with GTA IV and GTA V Liberty City very much acts as the replacement for New York City. Mafia is also similar to the DC universe with Gotham existing alongside New York City, America just happens to have a few extra cities.
Empire Bay mentioned by the Detective in the opening is an East Coast city the setting of Mafia 2 located in New York State. This city is based on New York, Boston, L.A, Detroit, and San Francisco. Both Lost Heaven and Empire Bay are there own cities that draw elements from real world cities to create a fun unique experience. Mafia 3 is set in New Bordeaux which is pretty much New Orleans this city being the solely based on Orleans and no doubt replaces the city.

New Bordeaux - Mafia 3 - Released: 2016
Oh little fun RDR2 connection but in the leaked map for RDR2 (Which turned out to be a real early version of the map) that released in 2016 when the first teaser came out for RDR2 the city Sant Denis was labelled as New Bordeaux. This was also at the same time when Mafia 3 was being released so many people thought that Mafia and RDR2 were going to be connected but it turned out to be a placeholder name. You can hear Uncle singing about Old Bordeaux which of course is a real French city but implying "Old" Bordeaux would mean that there's a "New" Bordeaux as well. The song stayed in the game as those were recorded early on so that's the person behind that.
Oh and some notes on extra content you own because of owning Mafia 2 and Mafia 3. In your garage you'll have two new vehicles the Shubert Frigate based on the Chevrolet Corvette C1 from 1953 and a Samson Drifter based on the 1970 Ford Torino GT from 1968. The Shubert is a vehicle from Mafia 2 and the Samson is from Mafia 3 both out of place for the 1930s. Just a heads up incase you're confused as to why there's a 1960s muscle car in your 1930s Mafia game lol
And you're friend from High School was no doubt talking about Mafia 2 from 2010 as that came out around that time. Mafia 1 came out in 2002 but he could've played it maybe later on in life. Mafia 3 came out in 2016.

I just started watching you play Mafia 1 and I gotta admit those jokes at the beginning of each video are funny as hell. I hope you continue doing that, a very unique way to make an intro.

I watched interview recently with its author Dan Vavra and he said, that the game sold very poorly in US originally upon its release (reasons we can speculate) - unlike Europe where it made lots of money. So if you are originally from US? I am even surprised that game was very known back then.
This remake is very well-made, played it recently, there are some stuff I prefer in the original, some in the remake (would have to go into spoilers), but still I think you are in one hell of the ride - enjoy the story/game!

The alcohol ban was called Prohibition and lasted from the 1920s and late 1930s until they lift the ban and passed the 21st amendment where we can drink legally from now on:) hope that info helps

You may know all that by now since the video is 7 months old.. but Illusion Softworks was a Czech video game developer company in the late 90s and early 2000s. Original Mafia was their game from 2002. It was probably one of the best games ever made... But I might be a little biased there as a Czech person myself.... on the other hand not too much. If you look up the games they developed, they were pretty succesful. I have played a LOT of original Mafia... but never this remaster. So I am actually interested to see what is looks like.
I like the first and second one. but the third one I gave up on but I might revisit to be honest!

I don't see the resemblance.
I only played this on Classic difficulty, because you lose any unfired ammo when you reload, just like in the original. There are some notable narrative changes here from the original. For one, Tommy wasn't explicitly or implicitly Italian in it. More importantly he wasn't so eager to join the mobsters. Here he's the one asking to strike back at Morello's goons. That is a huge difference in personality, and it's one of the bad changes they introduced, but there are also some good ones. Over all, I don't feel either one outweighs the other, but I would have loved to have the full chapter "You lucky bastard" instead of the cut-down version we got.
