Growing up I used to play the original Mafia (the 2003 release) all the time. I must've played it over 20 times and was my favourite game at the time. Having the chance to play the remake when it came out was like a dream come true for me.
It's just such an incredible game!! 10/10!!
I'm really enjoying this as I never played the definitive edition and it's interesting to see some of the changes they made from the original game. It looks great and I noticed immediately that the cars definitely can go faster. It was so easy to get pulled over by the cops for speeding in the original game.

I assume the devs decided to call them that so players knew what they were. Around this time they would be know as fire bottles or fire bombs.
What an amazing game this is. Story is some of the best I've seen in a game. I wish they'd even do a movie or TV series about it. Its like Christmas on Juliette's channel lately. Tomb Raider and now Mafia. Lets Go!

Great start to a new series! The story seems like it's going to be really interesting and I can't wait to see where it goes.
The city is apparently a fictional city in Illinois, but it's probably based on Chicago given the look of the city and that a lot of real mob activity took place there in the 1920s and 1930s. Al Capone's infamous Chicago Outfit was one of the major crime families in the city who ran bootleg whiskey from Canada during the Prohibition era, much like what's happening in the game.
Oh, wow! That is very cool to know, Jason. I'm not very clued up on the mafia life and I really don't think I'd fit in either haha. I just adore this game though, it's so, so wonderful 🤗💜
@@xJuliettex I'm not very knowledgeable about the mafia in general, but I happened to be aware of that little bit of trivia since Al Capone is such a legendary figure in American history of that era.
The 1987 film The Untouchables, with Kevin Costner, is based on the group of Bureau of Prohibition agents known as The Untouchables, because the mob couldn't corrupt or intimidate them, and how they brought down Capone's criminal empire. While it's highly fictionalized, it's well worth watching if you have an interest in getting to know the era a little more. Costner's character, Elliot Ness, was also an actual historical person and was the head of the group that eventually arrested Capone and ended his leadership of the Chicago Outfit crime family.

This is hilarious, there were too many times when I wanted to comment on things, like you criticising other peoples' driving, or choosing to play a game called 'Mafia' and saying: "This is dangerous..." while sounding surprised. Or hearing you say "old bag' several times, given your usual graceful demeanour. OR talking about Tommy in the third person when you are playing him. I played the original and really enjoyed it. I should get this version too. I love this era [1920's-1930's] and roleplaying in it is wonderful. So funny, thank you.

Crazy Taxi!!!! Man, I love taxi games for some weird reason. I don't know if you've played GTA V story, but I loved how we could buy a taxi business as Michael. Sometimes when playing online I'll steal a taxi and see if any players want to be taken anywhere!

I usually have an ear for accents and have pinpointed Welsh, Devon, York and London with English speakers. Madam, you have bested me. So, instead of little black Taxi it's Road Warrior style? the worst part of playing Mafia is I really liked Paulie, though watching this reminded me of when I probably butchered the names in the opening credits when I recorded the first mission for Facebook

Oh than you also have to play Mafia 2 ! Thy‘re both absolutly amazing ! The third one not so much … its still great but falls quiet short compared to Mafia 1 and 2 plus … you dont really need it for the story

Hehehe, similar though Roderick! LA Noire is on my list to play. I played a little of it a while ago I think on the ps3 or 4. I got stuck so I think I abandoned it 🤔 Mafia is AWESOME, I very much recommend it!!
Just before I start to watch over this new playlist I wanna mention that Hangar 13's game prior to that was Mafia 3 which was met kinda cold and had a lot of issues. I still remmeber when it came out. So coinsidering this, H13 did their homework and they did it right!
And that music...I love orchestral music, always inspirational, deep.
And look at the cutscenes! It's...a movie in a nutshell! That little whoosh effect in the beginning of it adds some detail to it.
And Crazy Taxi? I played CT3, Gina, Alex, B.D.Joe, Angel....so many memories ❤

yep it's New York but you know with games like this they don't have the license to name the country or states with thier real names . so they make a replica and give it another name !! aw yeah i remember crazy taxi as well lol i don't know if you heard of it . but they did come up with an upgraded version on 2021 called " taxi chaos " . it's sick i love it !! great episode girl i love it

BTW, you don't have to stop at red lights, and you can speed so long as there aren't cops around. Also I thought there was a way to walk faster in the game. Like pressing one of the buttons. That could come later on when you're in free roam.

Crazy Taxi eh? Showing your age with that one! I had it too! Played one of the older Mafia games and really enjoyed it, so think I'll see how you get on with this as I don't know the story, and it looks as atmospheric as that older game.
I actually looked up Crazy Taxi on steam and it's nothing like I remember it to be! Maybe I've been looking back on my childhood all wrong 😂
This and Ghost of Tushimia were my favourite games of 2020.

@@xJuliettex the thing about voice acting is especially when it comes to games like this and red dead redemption 2 the gameplay and story can both be phenomenal but if the performance isn't as good it takes away from the greatness in my opinion

Games that are set in this time period look so much more interesting to me than something like GTA V.
I definitely remember Crazy Taxi. That was my most played game on the Dreamcast, except for maybe the Shenmue games. It had an awesome soundtrack as well.

You saw the reaction, when the garage guy said looks like two cripples here. That is how fast fortunes can turn, so who knows what Tommy did to be forced to seek protection for his family from the cops.
I did enjoy you stopping in the middle of the intersection to voice your annoyance with the guy on the motorcycle, making a right hand turn from the left hand lane, and then watching you do it yourself in, at least, half the intersections you went through. I think you're are going to have cop troubles...banging cars, speeding, threatening pedestrians...I see a hard road for you with the cops!
This takes place in Illinois, and the neighborhoods, or towns, are suburbs north, south and west of Chicago. That, along with the raised train tracks around town, lead me to believe this is loosely based on Chicago. Chicago was a wild place with battles for control.
I used to live in a far suburb of Chicago, when I was a youth, and we used to ride the trains downtown and wander around. Crazy things happened on almost every trip. I can only imagine how crazy it was back in the 30's.
I think you've led Tommy into a different life than he had planned. Good game! I love the atmosphere, and cars and the cars!

I hope you had a lovely weekend also. Juliette. Mine was snow and blowing winds. It started warm and ended very chilly On the world's scale about 20 C on Friday, down to about -8 C on Sunday night. But I mostly stayed inside and watched 2 of my favorite Let's Players play!

I have played and finished this game and I really like it! Wish they had more going for it but I truly believe that the best one going to be made is Mafia 4 which is currently being produced at this moment.

You should check out mafia 2 and it's dlc after this, it's also an AMAZING game and an emotional rollercoaster. Mafia 3 is pretty good to but it's definitely the black sheep of the 3, no pun intended, you'll get that if you check it out lol.

I really hope you'll eventually play the original mafia, sure it's dated, the driving mechanism was so clunky, but from narrative standpoint, it's worth give a shot

27:25 police responses at this time were awfull, specially considering cars of this time weren't that reliaable wich is why crime could get away most of the time specially the mafia xD when the police put its shit together and got better vehicles and wear to have better response time, the mafia started to fade out to be more discret as ever xd at least thats what i understand

Yo I played mafia definitive edition twice both on Xbox one s and ps4 plan on replaying it in the future the story of Tommy Angelo a cab driver who meets Paulie and Sam apart of the Sallieri crime family and mafia 2 definitive edition gets better with Vito Scaletta from going to poor to rich and killing Don Carlo Falcone and Mafia 3 with Lincoln Clay a black man looking to get revenge on the mob for murdering his family
It sure is a great game! I'm looking forward to the others ☺
