It's crazy how we're actually at a point where many people are (understandably) worried about getting copyright struck for music that's not only part of the game, but also *one hundred years old* almost.
So little information. Mafia: City of Lost Heaven released back in 2002 and was developed by Illusion Softworks who worked on a few racing games. The game was very unique in that it focused heavily on immersion while also using their own driving engine to bring over some really solid racing physics and car handling. It was just a really fun experience and you could spend hours just driving around in a really active feeling world. The game also had very strict police so speeding and running red lights would get you into trouble, something I believe you can only experience in the classic difficulty in the remake. Pretty sure hitting cars regardless of difficulty will get you wanted. One star you can just pull over and they'll give you a ticket.
In terms of location the game is set in the fictional city of Lost Heaven, Illinois during the 1930s. The city of Lost Heaven is inspired by a range of American cities pulling mostly from Chicago of course but also New York, and San Francisco. For example the building at the very end of this road at 23:11 is based on the Flatiron Building on Manhattan. Unlike the GTA games you've played Lost Heaven does not replace any of these real cities but co exists alongside them similar to the DC universe.
In terms of the time period the game does go through the whole 1930s so you get to see new vehicles showing the advancement of time along with posters, billboards, and events. For example the intro to the game is of course set sometime in the future so alot of those cars you saw will not be in the early game until you progress deeper into the 1930s. The Prohibition in America only lasted until 1933 for example so that's not going to last forever.
The remake does add alot of cool stuff as well but something I love is the nods to the future games for example the mention of Empire Bay another city in the Mafia universe located on the East Coast, I assume the State of New York. It's also the main setting of Mafia 2 so it's a cool little nod to the city of that game. There's also playing cards as well with important characters on them with many of these being younger versions of characters from the other games.

21:30 I am not sure if it's historically accurate but they give the atmosphere of the 1930s where Great Depression started- when ppl didn't have jobs and were struggling economycally etc. that's why I assume in the game npcs sound stressed out

One thing: driving in Mafia is not like in Gta- if u drive against the rules or speed too much, police will try to stop u, in Mafia 2 they even stop u and give u a ticket and also those are old cars makes sense that they're slower

1:19:30 That seems to be a very intense moment. Right next to the church and police watching clearly signifies that this guy has no fear of god or administration. Clearly since this game is based on Chicago in the 30's most of the mob bosses has good dealings with commissioners and politicians.

This is not an old game. The original game was old and looked very different, but this is basically an entirely new game with new graphics, new music, new voice actors, completely new cutscenes and the old cutscenes were completely redone. Pretty much new everything, with the story and most of the city layout taken from the original mafia game.

Not a spoiler but there was one intimate scene of Tommy with someone in original 2002 game which created a lot of controversy during that time. When the makers were remastering this game they obviously have to recreate that initimate scene also with good and clear graphics of this date, so they finally decided to tone down that particular scene as much as possible 😂

The race coming up is quite hard, lower the game difficulty for it if you want to. You'll need to use your RAM ability to boost after corners.

Just started watching this. One of my favorite game series, so I can not wait to finish this one and then head straight to Mafia 2. I have played both Mafia and Mafia 2 with Czech dub, which is HELLA better than English (sorry hehe), so it is a pity you do not understand Czech. Anyway, got 9 parts of this masterpiece ahead of me, its only noon, so I have plenty of time to finish this before the day is over.

Jonesy Mafia Definitive Edition GREAT CHOICE! this is a Remake of the original Mafia I first got into the series through Mafia II I didn't have the right system for the original game growing up so I wasn't able to play it, So when I heard a Remake of the original was happening I obviously got very very excited having loved Mafia II this game is AWESOME. The open world is beautiful to look at, the story is phenomenal, and Tommy Angelo is a fantastic lead character you'll enjoy this game trust me I won't give anything away but there's actually a scene in this one that ties into II. I won't spoil it but ITS IN THERE if your a fan of movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas, movies about The Maifa then you'll definitely enjoy this game
