    This will basically even out the temperatures in the different levels of the water column and thus lead to unforseen effects. E.g. changing the existing water currents.
    Basically, this could ve a very, very bad idea.

    One of the best parts of this plan if it works is that it is incredibly cheap. So whether it is super duper effective or not, tugging a handful of perforated hoses with air movers attached is way cheaper than having to construct higher seawalls, so every inch of wall height they can reduce the need for will easily pay for the effort over time.

    They talk about pipes for pumping up water, but what about pipes for pumping down air?
    If the ocean floor could have a pipe system with openable membranes that only let through air and not water, and a pumping system at the coast, would that be at all possible for getting bubbles to the needed spots a lot quicker?

      the only problem is the scale, he talks about the forecast having to be correct and that just means it could be anywhere. that's a lot of air pipes to lay down.

      True, it may outweigh the pros. To not pursue is no good to me. Crazy ideas often become what was needed. Perhaps we go underwater deep and then find eye of the hurricane and then detonate a non nuclear device that could disrupt the eye and slow the storm down. Preferably before it turns into a category 4 or 5. I hear the idea of nuclear blasts, which would be more catastrophic than the hurricane by far imo. Deep dive, locate the eye of the storm in the early stages, and detonate something environmentally safe, and just maybe the eye is disrupted, causing the hurricane to become far less destructive??? Crazy 💡 but it makes me wonder.

    I’m from the Caribbean, and sometimes, like now, that we have a bit of drought (dam levels are not as high as they should be), whenever a storm is coming, it is an opportunity for water levels to rise. Too much at one time is not so good because of flooding that could happen and mudslides (some unavoidable but many that could have been prevented if proper urban planning were made and not so much deforestation and poor waste management) and the powerful winds of hurricanes that really have no benefits. So If this works to maybe “weaken” storms, that would be great, but hopefully they won’t eliminate them completely!

    I'm happy to say they are designing pumps out in the ocean that will pump cooler water up to the surface to keep hurricanes from strengthening, possibly even forming. Hope this technology comes out sooner rather than later 🤞

    I was thinking about it and they make a solar powered fountain one probably won’t do it but a hundred might be just enough to change the corse of the storm if it follows the warm water then a area of water that is a little bit cooler could divert the path of the storm sending it back out and away from the coast to deep water this idea might cost a lot but if it works it would save money and lives compared to what normally would happen

    Every action has chaotic knock-on effects. Maybe ecosystems have come to rely on hurricanes in subtle ways people don't understand. Consider forest-fire management for example.

    So lets fix broken temperature levels done by negligence. By breaking more temperature natural balance mixing the cold water of the ocean.
    I am sure nothing will go wrong by making the average temperature of lower parts of the ocean colder, what can possibly go wrong. Its the perfect fix.
    Reminds me exactly of ideas from the past century.
    - Bring rats to deal with the insects, rat infestation happens.
    - Bring snakes to deal with the rats, snake infestation happens.
    - Bring weasels to deal with the snakes, weasel infestation happens.
    How about don't over produce, neglect, properly storage and clean farm crops to prevent the first infestation instead.

    Nope. I don't like it. What it will do is take the energy that was in the water and release it into the air as heat. It could cool the water in the area but also bring ridiculous humidity. Having the hurricane at least uses and expends that energy, so it isn't heating further.
    I like the barge jet engine plan. If that can absorb energy and save it, we can use hurricane power AND lighten the power of the storm. Thus some rain, but not all potential rain, can be released, helping the communities that rely on it and not killing the people in its path.

    I am reminded of the meteorologist Clement Wragge who in 1902 in Charleville, Australia built a number of "Super Vortex Canons" it make it rain, never worked. Bubbles to stop a hurricane is in the same basket.

    Surely not good for sea life - as it changes density, temperature, salt content and even maybe oxygen levels.
    And besides - most probably less and less effective for hurricanes as well - as we have already seen this year - the high sea surface temperatures are reaching deeper and deeper.

    We're human and we make mistakes all the time. Something that looks good on paper and might even perform well might have very steep consequences down the road that we just aren't aware of. The problem is we have a God complex and we think we can solve everything because we think we got it all figured out. Reminds me of those silly products people come up with to solve a little problem and make something easier and they're almost always downsides that you become aware of the second you start using the products.
