I saw this clip just before my yesterday's round of golf and I could not believe the results!. I waited for 40 years for someone to explain this to me.
I’ve watched hundreds of in-depth videos on wrist hinge and none of them have come close to explaining this! Thankyou this will be a game changer for me!
I have been playing golf for many years and now that I'm retired I have finally started to try and improve my game. I've taken golf lessons, searched the internet for tips and the never had this part of the golf swing explained. After looking at Christines video I want out to the driving range and tried the bowed left wrist and the position fo the right hand, at first it felt strange, but after hitting a few balls I as hitting it straight and farther! Thanks Christine!
In his instruction book, "Natural Golf", Seve Ballesteros said to imagine that you're balancing a waiter's tray with your right hand at the top of the backswing. This ends up with your left wrist being straight or slightly bowed, which is way better in my opinion than being cupped. If you have been doing it incorrectly for a long time, it will feel strange at first, but keep at it and it will become natural. When someone once told an instructor that what he was being taught didn't feel comfortable, the instructor asked, "Well how has 'comfortable' been working out for you so far?" This video is a very good explanation. Well done...short and sweet!
Push down with your left hand/arm (right handed golfers) on the start of your backswing and your right hand will hinge automatically, resulting in you watching your ball flight sail threw the air like never before! The lady has explained it in this blog, but not like I have explained it! But she is on the right track and will improve lol! I love your blogs!
Well Ricci I do love your channel, but here’s an interesting story. I’m about a 5 handicap I’m 62 years old been playing since about 9 when my father put my first set in my hands. I’ve personally tried just about everything in my golf swing. Hinge wrists, straight left arm, short backswing, long backswing, swinging as hard as I can, and on and on. Last week I played with a gentleman of about my age and he was missing his entire right hand at the wrist. Now not that he was a world beater, but God dam if he wasn’t pretty dam good and could hit a straight long ball. Start with the basics then find YOUR OWN SWING. PERIOD. This experience really opened my eyes.
Magic info! The wrist motion of the 2 hands are doing different types of up/down and back/forth motion in the swing due to body mechanics. The front arm creates the power via the wrist up/down motion. The back arm creates the power via the wrist back/forth motion. Now you just have to get the rest of the power from the arm rolling motion, weight shift, hip turn, shoulder turn on the correct spine angle....assuming you have the correct grip to facilitate all this. 😂
Thank you, You are the first one that talked about the right wrist being set/cup because when it set/cup at the top the rest of my swing feels freer with levarage/transition etc.
Best explanation of wrist hinge ever. Could never achieve that flatter position at the top for trying to hinge both wrists vertically throughout. Thank you for such an elegant explanation!
That explains why my clubface is open, I was hinging both the same and always ending up with more of a cupped left wrist, instead of flat or bowed. I have asked multiple instructors about wrist hinge and none of them ever explained it so easily. Thanks!
After watching this video I jumped out of bed it’s 10 at night and went and did a few swings simply amazing, swing plane was perect thank you so much xoxoxo
@christinaricci! Thank you!! Amazingly simple explanation. I'm 98% certain my right hand hinge mimics left-hand hinge too much [right-handed golfer]. Result is club never really pointed at target line when shoulders turned. This will help...already hit a few balls this way and need to ingrain as as a norm versus "think about it."
Thank you!!! I just hit my 5-iron dead straight 150-170 yards over and over on the range. I couldn’t hit any clubs except my driver for the last few months until I fixed my wrists the way you teach. Also, I have to think about a light grip and squeezing exactly the same pressure with both hands at address. I do think about holding a dinner tray with my right hand at the top.
Omg moment! Best explanation ever on wrists angles. I have been working gosh for two years ..I lied, 3 years on flattening down swing . Last night I noticed in my practice video that my spine angle is still changing. But is that because my wrist angles are wrong at the top??? Maybe so I will change the wrists angles now and hopefully that helps . And try not to dip down as I make the last of the shoulder turn. Thank you!!!! Any drills on helping us with tight upper body from dipping and then adjusting back would be awesome. Thx again!
Christina great video but can you explain the harder portion ie when to unhinge the cocked wrists on the down swing at pt of impact when you strike the ball?
When does the right wrist hinge happen and when does it release? Also, when the hinge releases, does that contribute to clubhead speed and resulting distance?
I love the video, but I have one comment. I agree with the wrist movements you describe, but in addition to the right wrist hinging, it seems that it also cocks up since it is tightly coupled to the left hand which is cocking up.
Hi, love your videos. What if your trail hand (my right hand) can't hinge or flex that much? I have an old injury to my right wrist and I can barely hinge it backwards.
Excellent video!! This has been a huge issue for me. I am a pretty big and solid guy but my swing mechanics are terrible. I am able to muscle the ball but it is definitely not correct. The right wrist hinge is what has gotten me. I haven't had one....I am a right handed golfer. Will be working on this next time at the range. Can you do a video on the elbow as well? I am pretty sure I have that messed up as well. I need lots of work!! Thanks!!!
Christina, I'm right handed. When teeing off with my driver should I transfer my weight to the INSIDE or the OUTSIDE of my right foot on the back swing? If on the outside should I roll my foot slightly? Peter
The circular turn is not the wrists; it's the forearms. The wrists are only able to move up and down (slightly) and side to side like a door hinge (more than the up and down).
If both hands are connected albeit with the shaft between them, then if you cock the left wrist then the right wrist must cock. I think the right wrist set happens as a result of the way the right arm (incorporating the right elbow) works differently to the way the left arm works. Or am I wrong?

To get full distance the left hand must be cupped. When cupped the left wrist is fully cocked. Grab an ax baseball bat sledge hammer or throw a club. Watch what your hands do. The brain already knows the most powerful position.
I'm very disappointed that you got the first part better than most any instructor does, but said not one word about the most critical aspect and that's at contact. That's even more critical to understand and most people have no idea. 90% of people release those angles much too early and any power or speed is lost in the process. Good clip for half the swing.
Christina, are you 'hinging' your trail wrist at 2:20? What are the benefits of this move? I've noticed that you don't answer your comments. Can you make a little effort?
Thanks for watching. I have 100's of videos. It would be a challenge to answer all the comments. I read them and answer questions in future tips! Hinge created as a result of the body pivot (change of direction) is what creates the whip action through the ball. If we do not hinge, then we are losing out on a valuable clubhead speed generator!
What??? Little confused here. I don't think anyone would have both wrists up and down in the back swing. It would look goofy. If you cock the left wrist and bring the handle back in your backswing every thing just happens naturally.
You guys have no idea how much I have spent on lesson and none of the instructors have ever made it this simple. Way to go! Thanks for the tips!
I saw this clip just before my yesterday's round of golf and I could not believe the results!. I waited for 40 years for someone to explain this to me.
Simplest and clearest explanation I have seen on how wrists should function, thanks
Ms. Ricci has given the BEST explanation of wrist action. It has instantly added distance and consistency. Thank you.
Spot on! Straight from classic lessons and yet you don't see many instructors teaching it nowadays. You rock!
I’ve watched hundreds of in-depth videos on wrist hinge and none of them have come close to explaining this! Thankyou this will be a game changer for me!
This is some of the most straightforward golf instruction on the web. Good stuff
This video. Best thing to ever happen on the internet!
Helpful. Not a long video. No repetition. Crisply explained. SUBSCRIBED!
Yes... taking 13 minutes to give a golf tip when 3 minutes will do is soooo aggravating !

Correct!
"threw" or "through"???
Christina is an awesome golf teacher and pro.

I like the up and under, Golfing Machine 101. This is pure gold, as long as you understand how to pivot. Many thanks.

Excellent wrist hinge tip, easily understood with clear voice, I have a 7 handicap
Played for 65 years and always have been confused on this. I can shoot my age but always a manufactured swing. Now it feels natural. Thank you
Wow... You said in two minutes something most can’t describe in two hours.
This woman understands the golf swing.
Thanks, Christina - excellent - one of best communications of a key fundamental of the golf swing!!!👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent . Best explanation I have seen and heard. I am a 7 Handicap player.
Thank you
Very good video! It’s one of the most overlooked part of the game.
Good explanation! Very clear. I’ve never seen this explained where the wrists are in two different positions at the top of the backswing
Understanding that the wrist hinges differently made a huge difference in my ball striking
Thank you!!! I just hit my 5-iron dead straight 150-170 yards over and over on the range. I couldn’t hit any clubs except my driver for the last few months until I fixed my wrists the way you teach. Watched alot of golf videos and im glad you talk about the trail hand cause i was having alot of problems with longer clubs
best 3 minutes on this subject
Excellent!!!! Very simple, very WELL DONE!!!! 🙏🏌️
I think your right on. Such a great lesson I'd like to give you a virtual squeeze there dear. Much thanks.
Man once I figured this out, my game dramatically improved. I just wish I figured it out 20 years ago.
Christina great video but can you explain the harder portion ie when to unhinge the cocked wrists on the down swing at pt of impact when you strike the ball?
Thank you! Nobody explained what to do with the right hand.
Learn something new each day. Thanks.
Like the simplicity, finally got it !

Christina great video but can you explain the other part ie when to unhinge the cocked wrists during the downswing?
TQSM! Straightforward & easy to understand
Awesome and easy to understand. Thanks again for this tip. Cheers.
Great explanation, thanks!
Good stuff thanks I was doing the wrong way, noticed swing was super different way cool
We all need more pazz!
Hi, love your videos. What if your trail hand (my right hand) can't hinge or flex that much? I have an old injury to my right wrist and I can barely hinge it backwards.

Wow! Amazing mechanics insight ❤ ty😊
Yes. this is the best advise!
One dog goes one way, one dog goes the other way... this guys like, what do you want from me?
The Great and brilliant golf instruction, thanks>>.
This actually made sense to me....thank you!
Christina, I'm right handed. When teeing off with my driver should I transfer my weight to the INSIDE or the OUTSIDE of my right foot on the back swing? If on the outside should I roll my foot slightly? Peter
I prefer the entire foot not inside to outside. I'll do a tip on this - good topic!
The circular turn is not the wrists; it's the forearms. The wrists are only able to move up and down (slightly) and side to side like a door hinge (more than the up and down).
Very nice tip the keyword to me what is the right wrist works UNDER
That was brilliant. Thank you.
Yes, but what do the wrists do on the downswing and through the ball?
I have a strong grip, is this why I have difficulty getting a hinge on my lead wrist ?
Nice easy expkanation, no BS :)
Thanks Christina, good advice.
this lady can teach!
Super helpful. Thanks
Ok, but is this same wrist hinge also used with the driver?
IS IT FAIR TO SAY OR MONITOR MY TRAIL OR RIGHT HAND WRIST TO THE LEVEL OR ANGLE OF MY SHOULDERS AT THE TOP OF MY BACK SWING AS A REFERENCE ?
If both hands are connected albeit with the shaft between them, then if you cock the left wrist then the right wrist must cock. I think the right wrist set happens as a result of the way the right arm (incorporating the right elbow) works differently to the way the left arm works. Or am I wrong?
I think you are correct.
do you have a lesson to stop swaying on the backswing and lunging in front of the ball on the downswing?
Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

I have decided that you will play the part of Scarlet O'Hara in the new motion picture of Gone With the Wind.........
Do you ever have your clinic in Hilton Head S.C.?
To get full distance the left hand must be cupped. When cupped the left wrist is fully cocked. Grab an ax baseball bat sledge hammer or throw a club. Watch what your hands do. The brain already knows the most powerful position.
A fantastic video, and, by the way, you are gorgeous.
I love you! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent
Thank you, never been taught that.
What in the tarnation?
Ive heard that voice before! Archie Bunkers wife Edith Bunker! Unique for sure..
love it
Very good explanation but what about the wrist movement in the downswing to impact - and through impact.?
🇨🇦👀Thank you!
Thank you!
Kind of of anatomically impossible unless the palms are not facing each other.

What??? Little confused here. I don't think anyone would have both wrists up and down in the back swing. It would look goofy. If you cock the left wrist and bring the handle back in your backswing every thing just happens naturally.
During the backswing the lead hand hinges vertically and the trail hand as it gets to the top will hinge horizontal (holding a pizza tray).
Huh
Thanks very much. You’re great at this and well worthy of another zero on your subs.
