Im the full turn guy! i have even demonstrated that wrist hinge to others,to avoid an inside takeaway, in a set and turn drill and then ruin it for myself by over turning and setting it with my trail hand! Been watching your YT for a cple of weeks, have hit my 3 best ever 3 woods! and shot 5 over on capts day playing average, not bad at my age! now if i can only get this takeaway!
Really depends on the shot I'm trying to play. I hit a natural fade so if it's fade it's just trust the swing. If I want to hit a draw I have to turn it down knuckles down slow the body down. I started golf at a late age 31 went from a 25+ handicap to a 3.2 in really 3 summers. Now 34 and wish it was my sport of choice at an early age. I've almost developed an automatic swing I only get to play once a week last 3 months and handicap has dropped from 6.8 to 3.2 not getting to play just develope these feels watching you in my car on my lunch break at work
@@alize43m Weight on balls of feet, hip bump and wrist hinge have already made a huge difference, i was the stupid golfer that could do all the difficult drills but wasnt getting the basics right!
Thanks for the video. I finally have a clear understanding and feel for the wrist hinge and take away. I went to the range yesterday and applied the instructions in the video I was able to strike the ball better than I ever have before. Again thank you!
Fantastic video, i have recoreded it. I feel often "lost" in the backswing (in the downswing too i guess..) and watching you is really getting me back on Earth. Thanks !
This is solid gold! Thank you, Adam, for your outstanding instruction. I have been struggling with my wrist position on the back swing for over a year and as you know if you get that wrong everything that comes after that is a pipe dream. To me the whole golf swing and everything it produces comes from the proper wrist set. You guys are top notch!
I’ve watched many highly regarded instructors on TH-cam - Danny Maude, Zach Allan, Mike Bender - they all say the right things but I personally find it difficult to translate into my golf swing. Your instruction however is very clear and easy to take down to the range- about time you employed a Porzak instructor in the UK - somewhere near London😀
Needed this video. I was doing zero hinge early and then bouncing the club at the top knowing I need to hinge at the end. Part of what’s been destroying my game. Great content!
This was HUGE for me. Apparently I was getting wristy, and probably bringing the club inside (although I felt like I was taking it straight away). I took this to the course, and its been a world of difference. Thank you again, Adam! My next issue is staying balanced and centered when hitting driver. What do you have to say about keeping your center of gravity and your balance centered after the hip bump/shoulder tilt? Sometimes I feel like I get my weight too far back, causing me to slide and/or not turn through the ball, after the bump/tilt setup for driver.
Great video, Adam! I've seen this several times, but I picked the club up instead of pushing down on the handle with my left hand. Worked great, yesterday, especially with my bunker shots! It keeps me from sucking the club inside in the takeaway.
This has been really eye opening & nailed what I’ve unfortunately ingrained 40 years ago with the over rotated no wrist hinge take away! Lately I’ve analyzed Steve Stricker for simplicity & consistency but his move his quite opposite of Porzak…decisions, decisions!
I have trouble reconciling the hands moving straight back along the yellow line vs the hands and arms staying connected during the turn. Don’t the hands have to also move on an arc like the arms and chest, albeit smaller? Thanks for all the info.
This information along with the videos with Todd Sones are going to take me from a 6 index down to scratch. Awesome information. This will help me get to a point that I can let the swing go on the downswing. GAPS (Grip, Ailment, Posture, and Stance) along with this takeaway checkpoint will free up the swing. It sounds like a lot of info, but you can train the GAPS which take no athletic ability and you are 95% ready to take the swing. Love it.
Really is excellent instruction, my aim is to hit scratch by end of October, currently a 3.2 the little hip bump has made the biggest difference to my ball striking, struggled with driver for a bit when i first tried it, but a range session moving ball an inch further forward sorted that out.
@@richyclubsport5155 … yes I have incorporated some of these ideas and the hip bump is so important. Their discussion of the hip bump really made me make some adjustments to how I was feeling the weight distribution at setup and during the swing. Todd Sones made a reference to the Stack and Tilt method and in retrospect that is what I was doing and had some success, but not like when I do the hip bump correctly. Thankfully I am taking video to insure that I am setup properly and my local instructor has force plates so I will see if I am distributing my forces appropriately. Good luck on your journey to scratch…I hope to join you soon.
Adam, how much does the strength of your grip allow or not allow you to properly do this move? I have a very strong grip and I feel as though it really prevents me from flattening my wrist.
Great video Adam on hinging! I use a 45* hinge set because I find that it is more compatible with my backswing. The only shortcoming I have is a premature arm lift rather than extending the arms out more. I gained a lot from this video and I am going to archive it.
This make’s so much sense can’t wait to try it my instructor has me hands in club out then hinge might be trying to get to same place but the feel is awful. You have any videos for overtop and rotation thru on down swing. Thx
Hi, I like this compilations. Different explanations for better understanding key moves swinging a golf club. Maybe we get one turning only the upper body against a stable base (my favorite and maybe gamechanger😅) Thank you so much for your time and passion. Nice greetings from Austria.
Hello Adam, why do you have your left thumb so Long in your grip. Is it to keep the face of the club more square during impact? Your videos r always useful. Thank you
Adam, where do you get your alignment rods. I can see the value of using different color rods. Also, I would like to know if you make the shorter alignment rods I've seen you use to mark shoulder width and middle of body. If you buy them, could you tell me where? Thanks.
What grip pressure do you recommend….I’ve always heard lighter the better…but your action looks like it might have a bit more grip pressure….what is your recommendation
I really wish you were local as I base my entire swing on your online lessons but could really do with a check up as path has gotten away from me... doing any UK teaching visits anytime soon? 😅
Mike Pitts has indicated in one of his videos that this early wrist hinge is perhaps less emphasized as the club gets longer than maybe an 8 or 7 iron. Dependent on length of the club??
I have been working on my hinge forever. When I get to about P2 I keep folding the club behind me as I go up. Should I feel as I hold my left palm more firm/locked in position to keep it from hinging backward vs up?
I’ve been using your setup tips lately and I’ve had some of the best shots of my life. Staying “plugged in” makes me feel like I’m too close but the strikes are disagreeing
@@PorzakGolf couldn’t agree more! Trying to slow things down to re learn things and get dialed. My big miss comes when I get anxious and really fast/aggressive at the top and it’s all downhill from there.

Most of my hinge comes from my elbow bending. Really struggle w this. My left knuckles seem to wrap around the grip & your seem to be more parallel also

Dear Adam, I am a bit confused about wrist-hinging and wrist-cocking in the backswing. In the first sequence it seems to me that you hinge the wrist. In the later sequences it seems to me that you make a wrist cock. For me as a non native english speaker I finde the explanation auf (1.) wrist-hinging and (2.) wrist-cocking in the video of Pete Cowan (Basic shortgame by Pete Cowen) very helpful. Now I am asking you what are you doing in the back swing: (A) Half body-turn and half wrist-hinge? (B) Half body-turn and halt wrist-cock? Kind Rgards Michael

Outstanding wrist hinge video instruction. Could you please show it from a face on view - the wrist at the 45 degree stick on the ground. Down the line is great but after the 2:25 mark of this existing video please add a face on view with the 3 sticks, notably wrist at the 45 degree stick. Thank you.
tbh i barely have any clue what he said. at times he seems to be saying push with your left hand, at other times it's basically "Hinge Hinge Hinge", and at other times it's push with your left shoulder. the teaching golf professionals NEED to understand that words/thoughts are not clear enough by simply saying them even if it's done in a straightforward way (which to his credit he mostly does) - teaching professionals need to really focus on how to communicate instruction so that it 101% cannot be misconstrued. i've never really come across a teaching pro who does this. they've been getting away for decades with being lazy communicators. the most important thing they can do is put all of their effort into figuring out how to communicate their ideas in the clearest way possible. putting their instruction into written form forces them to do this but alas making videos has obliterated that preeminent form of teaching IMHO obviously.
Hey there! In this video specifically we push down on the heel pad of our lead hand in order to naturally hinge the club. Furthermore, when we add the shoulder turn which initiates the takeaway, you get a connected backswing to the top. If you have the time, think about coming out and having a lesson with us. The communication is top notch here at Porzak Golf!
You just haven’t been working on your backswing long enough or thinking about it enough. Practice more and come back to this video. It made PERFECT sense to me. Coming from a guy who had a bowed wrist and hands way to high for months
I have probably watched at least 1000 videos by different instructors, and IMHO this guy makes it as clear and as easy to understand as I've ever seen. Excellent content. Thank you.
