    Nick might as well become a commentator cause he's definitely more interesting than the ordinary ones we get.

      I agree that his commentary is more interesting but he has the advantage of knowing the outcome and he has watched the race before if he didn’t who knows how good it would be. It might still be better but idk

      @@brandonm5130 totally agree. yeah he was a favorite, but its okay for other athletes to win :)

      @@brandonm5130 as a fan of Jakob I am upset at the outcome because although Jakob is strong enough to lead a race for as long as he did, tactically it wasn’t the best decision and clearly cost him the win. Wish he had waited even an extra 200 m to take the lead and he had clearly said he wanted a double gold(1500 and 5k) so a little heartbreaking to see him so close

    • @mathiascomics4321

    Finally a real 1500 race that isn't "tactical." Great race by Wightman, well deserved win and brilliantly run.

    The depth of quality in the mens 1500m is so exciting at the moment. There’s a lot of hype around Ingebrigtsen and for good reason, but there are so many guys right now that can win on their day. If you haven’t seen it, you should check out the mens 1500m in the commonwealth games a few weeks after the worlds. Very exciting finish to the race!

    • @mathematics5573
      @mathematics5573 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep, there is Jakob and Jake but also 2 Australians. The Commenwealth games winner, Oli Hoare and another. and Josh Kerr. who got Olympic Bronze and ran a 3.48 mile indoors last March. So 5 in total

  • @devv8645
    @devv8645 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Stayed up late to watch this race live, I remember being 100% convinced that Jakob would be able to pass Jake in that last 100, but he just didn't enough to make the pass. I'm a huge Jakob fan, so I was definitely upset, but Jake deserved this title after being shadowed for so long. Props to him

  • @cakej1
    @cakej1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    His 2:13.88 1000 today was pretty impressive too. Pacers went out way too fast and Jake ran solo whole time. Top 10 all-time.

      Many of the commentators nowadays are former top athletes. However not all of them have the ability to express to us viewers all the internal and external events of a race. Which he did very well. Nick I’d really like to hear your thoughts on the women’s 800 metres final- especially that last 150 metres. Plus the 100 metres hurdles event ( semifinal and final). I totally agree with your comment about an athlete (especially in events from 800 metres upwards) knowing what their body’s ability at certain points in time in the race and the ways their fellow runners are responding to the ebbs and flows of a race. All these subtleties don’t exist as much in shorter races because time is too short.

  • @NikoXC08
    @NikoXC08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Jake was probably the best 800m runner in the field. He even stated he knew his speed was there, but had to work on strength… which is why he jumped up in distance earlier in the year. So when Jake made that move, he knew he had the speed to close.

  • @BillyBob-wh4sq

    Another thing to mention is Mario Garcia-Romo in 4th place, running a HUGE PB in 3:30.20. The Spaniards had a great race, with 3 men in the final and Katir finally getting some hardware to match his personal bests.

  • @shaun__3

    Jake was 5th in the previous Worlds and is in the Diamond League circuit just like everyone else at the top. I say this because it's a shame you don't know enough, and I hope you look into, because I feel like the Men's 1500m right now is so competitive, and there's like 10 people who can get in the top 3 in the field on their day. Every race recently has been so interesting.

    Great race. Yes I think it was the blood in the water. Some days you don't realize that you have peaked and your opponent has not for the event, and you go by him and you know you have the power to beat him today. Its a great feeling when it happens. The reaction by both athletes to what happened is priceless. Whitman couldn't believe it and Yakub just patted him on the back like you were the better runner today. A great time for having no paid rabbits.

    great video! nick, did you see the interview that jakob did after the race? he seemed to attribute the loss partly to cheriyut trying to push past him 3 times in the race (which was reckless in his mind) and jakob having to speed up to stay ahead of him. in retrospect, jakob probably thinks he should have let cheriyut go. but then cheriyut probably would have tried to slow the race down and turn it into a final 200 kicking race. what should jakob have done in that situation? let cheriyut go on the third time he tried to overtake, catch your breath, and then pass him? seems to have been a lot more interesting tactics and maybe some kind of plan hatched by the kenyans before the race going on under the surface

    • @tobyh7614
      @tobyh7614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Considering Cheruiyot ended up in 6th, its possible that letting Cheruiyot go and eventually slow down would have been better. Also Cheruiyot is notorious for fast races and not wanting a sit and kick, pretty unlikely he would have wanted that when he knows his best chance at a win is a fast race
