I cannot believe how this race wasn't promoted more...or at all. Surely, the fact that some chap was trying to run two consecutive sub-4 minute miles and break a 20 odd year old record is worth a bit of media coverage in the build up to the attempt. The BBC coverage was dreadful. It should have been the highlight of the meet but the BBC only showed a brief "highlights of the race" clip. Ridiculous!

I just don't get it.. I mean.. See it from the event holders point of view.. You wont get the world lead distance runner, who's the reigning Olympic champ on the 1500's & world champ on the 5 K to to show up on your event for free (Golden league or not), yet alone go for a WR deemed impossible. Logically, the whole purpose of making that kind of an investment, is gaining as much profit as possible from it. And for that to happen, the 'star event' is the one to promote, as well as ensure gets the TV coverage! These guys, on the other hand, appear to have managed to put their biggest star in a side-event.. This just don't make any sense, what so ever!

No one (many great runners including Geb) ever came close to it, or really to 8 minutes (Geb closest at 8:01, also more than 20 years ago). It was an amazing record for its time, but I think it was quite outdated and multiple people could have done it over the years. I mean Joshua Cheptegei could have for sure cuz he ran 3!! 4:01 miles in a row a couple years ago. No one really runs 2 mile race though that’s why it stood for so long.
