Hi Paul, I just wanted you to know that you channel really lifts me up. Mr riding days are over which is a real bummer after 46 years of it. I understand also about the terrible angst issue that can occur when one realised that one is mortal such as when you had your heart attack. I have lung disease and maybe a few months) and you films keep me in the loop.. and still make me feel that I belong
Your experience was similar to mine. Loved my 2003 RK, rode it all round Europe. Demo rode a 2023 RG ST and it was like the difference between night and day. Traded in the RK for the RG ST and and v happy with it.
I usually make a Pro/Con list if my head's in a jumble over a decision like this. The biggest difference, as you know, is getting used to 1 fairing attached to the triple tree, and the other to the frame. I have a big batwing, 2010 FLHTCUI, with a small blacked-out fairing like you rode. It is weird not being able to see the road 5 or 10 ft in front of you, but at speed you're looking much further; so it's only a issue when going really slowly...but personally I've never had any prob with it. my '76 FLH Electraglide had no fairing w/ 18in apes. BIG difference for me, so I'd rather have a good wind cutting shaped fairing...Tunes are nice as well. Good luck my friend.. p.s. I saw in the comments someone said put a windscreen on your current bike. Those flat(ish) screens will take away ALL your acceleration and chew 10mpg off your fuel economy. Been there, done that, burned the t-shirt. It was terrible. Cheers
I understand your dilemma. If I had to choose between the SG and the RG, it would be the RG all day, every day (fits me like a glove). BUT, having owned one of the new Goldwings (2020), and a BMW 1250 RT, I don't do full fairings anymore, they cause more turbulence problems than they fix; all I have on my bikes now is a "bikini" fairing, they keep the wind blast of my chest and are absolutely solid in all conditions. Built in satnavs are not something I would take seriously again. I love the Harley M8, so after much thought, went for an FXLR and have tweaked it to suit me; cost a few bob, but it does exactly what I want; love it!
You remind me of my friend and his RG. He says the lack of air flow behind the windshield can build up with exhaust fumes from a bike too close in front of him.
I'd go for RG over SG all day long on just looks. I look the way you make them your own but the only down side to that is the cost. It's bloody expensive on top of an already expensive bike. I've spent a fortune on my RK and I'll never get that back.
I just can't cope with doing that. With the swept back bars I think it will ruin the lines and look of the front of the RK. They do look mean in black. Cheers
If you want fairing but dont like them, have you thought about the Heritage or Road King Special. Both have old style looks with easily attachable/detachable screens? Just a thought. Enjoy! 😎😎
I bought one from Warrs london... vivid black in chrome trim... I'm really pleased with my purchase.... i went from Fatboy2021 to the 2024 StreetGlide.. ..😊
Yet another great video. Enjoy the next test ride. Just make sure to decide on the bike you want. I've recently got myself a royal enfield interceptor 650, totally different to my triumph trophy 900. But it was the bike I wanted and it's bloody awesome 👌. You're more famous than you realise.
I really don't realise 🤣🤣🤣. I'll know the bike when I ride it. I'm a firm believer in the fact it's just got to have that something that makes you love in. That puts a smile on your face and that might not be logical but that motorbikes. Cheers buddy.
Ace video Scott, about time you got spotted, nice one Tom 😁 Looking forward to the next test drive and I'm sure like you said it hopefully will make you thought process more clearer. As always thanks for sharing 🫡
Haha . We appear to be very similar , I saw your thumbnail and assumed it was my algorithm suggesting I watch another SG video. ( Which I've been doing plenty of ) I had similar worry about road view when I put the shades fairing on my RK. I got more at ease with it pretty quickly . Keen to see where you end up here . Keep us posted mate
Good sound advice sir. Thank you. Nobody has mentioned the downsides of a massive screen 👍. I just think that if i have to think about it that much is it the right bike ? I just want that feeling of 'i need this bike, this is special'. Motorbikes are for fun, they need to make you want to ride them. My humble thoughts anyway. Thanks very much again 👍👍👍
My friend, I would truly keep your old twin cam Roadking they are a good old classic motor/ two valve heads etc, The m8 motor is a completely different ball game! Love your vids!!
Oh that’s really good to here! They really are a sweet old motor, as I watch your vids I can hear the machanic’s of the engine, and to me that makes the vid a Harley vid. Go well mate. Chuck down under👍
I have a 21 Heritage ,not too heavy not too light ,I can ride it barebones no screen or bags ,solo saddle or fully loaded fora camping trip,it has Cruise control(I’ve never used it yet),no radio/music ,just me singing too myself.
Great vlog mate - I went from a naked bike to a Road Glide. Had the same concerns about not seeing the road and within hours not a second thought! I do find the RG not only looks better but the SG also is much more enclosed which makes a big difference. The only thing I would consider is the chrome is far easier to keep looking clean my last bike was all black and LQy looked a bit grubby. Enjoy the next test ride please tell me it's not a Pan America haha
Sweet rides Scott, can you imagine a satt nav that worked 100% , you'd lose half your comedic content mate haha. I've never riden the big HD baggers , but have the Indian Challanger & Chieften & know what you mean about losing a lot of close road vision because of the fairing, but all are totally out my price range, Road Glide all the way mate, hope you get it bud.
The only Harley I ever rode was a Fatboy.. So I think it's safe to say, at my height, I wont be able to see a damned thing over that fairing except for the sky! I'm changing mydream bike based on a reality check.. I want a Road King.. with a bloody glass screen in front of me.. no fairing.. 😂😂😂 Scott, I dunno what the other bike is but I can imagine it's not a Harley.. as a loyal fan, whatever you choose, I will keep watching.. but it would be funny if the channels name is 1 Guy, a Harley and a Drone.. but you're riding a BMW.. 😮
I have owned both and still have an RGS, which I prefer. After riding for about a week, you don't really notice the fairing you get use to it, but I strongly recommend you test ride a Road King. You can purchase a screen which easily attaches when needed, it's a lot of money you're going to spend, don't rush, test ride all three you just might be quite surprised by the road king, also try a sport glide.
Thanks for the advice sir. I'm not going to sell mine so 2 Road King's would just be odd. I can't put a screen on mine, it will just ruin the looking. Rock and hard place. I just can't be simple can I. The next test ride is interesting.
@1guyaharleyandadrone657 still test ride a Road king. the new vented dark screens look awesome and just clip on, it don't cost anything to test ride one. Anyway, definitely test ride a Road Glide. There is a lot of difference between the RGS and SGS with regards to the fairing when riding.
@1guyaharleyandadrone657 I've had that problem before. Don't let them fob you off testing a bike. you're not interested in the RG and SG are not the same when you ride them. Also, prepare yourself for the shity after sales service, your there best buddy till you give them your money, don't get me wrong, I'm Harley through and through, but they're terrible in the UK
I've had that with one dealership. I asked for a test ride and followed it up with 4 emails and they never even replied ! That's BEFORE they even had my money. Totally crap service.
Concerning all those black windshields I saw ... A friend has a Road Glide and installed a tinted windshield he can't see over. When the sun goes down he's blind and has to follow my tail lights. Drives me CRAZY that he won't shorten it, but insists he likes looking through the windshield. It's bad enough you get lost with satnav, don't want you riding blind too. 😊
That's my fault. Tech problems with TH-cam, it's been a pain in the ass. I'm having to redo bits of the video so it will be going on tomorrow. Sorry about that Colin.
I would have the same thoughts as you, I'm not keen on modern motorcycles I had a triumph T120 Bonneville and it was soulless compared to my 1992 HD Dyna...I want to like the new Harleys I'm just not sure. Pls don't go adventure bike 😢
I remember from a previous video you were once told to stop moaning about wind blast on a naked Harley but to “grow a pair”. I’d much prefer watching videos of you on a characterful bike and suffering, it’s much more entertaining. The RG and SG are not the essence of motorcycling in my opinion.
What a bloody memory. I can't really argue with that. Suffering ! Thanks 🤣 There's no 2 ways about it, that bike didn't have half the character of mine. Wait for the next one.
Cheers buddy, appreciated. TH-cam pays the very successful very well and everybody else peanuts. It's for the fun and engaging with cracking people who love the same thing.
Please DON'T DO IT. I love following your adventures as much for the classic Road King as for your ability to get lost with a sat-nav. I love your Road King; the sound and character come through the screen on your travels. The new Harleys look great until you get to the massive awkward looking farings; not nice (Looks are of course in the eye of the beholder, and subjective). The King is not dead, long live the King! Your personality comes through your Road King; dont do it.
WOW, thank you. The old girl is going nowhere what ever happens to a new bike, if there is one. She's a babe and she will be going on many more adventures. BUT I'm not saying she won't have a garage friend.

Why Road Glide? The fairing is So far forward it doesn't do much for wind and rain protection. And much farther to see the screen
I love the style of them. But that a far comment, it is further away.
@@michaelroy925 All I can suggest is that you ride them both. Personally, the last thing I want in my face is a screen
I own this bike in black trim. Absolutely love it!
You should just put a windshield on your RK. Solve your issues with fairings.

A new Road King Special with a clip on / clip off screen is surely a no brainer? It’s precisely the bike you have said you want.
