Search up Dave Vanian from The Damned, around 1976 he pioneered the goth/vampire look into the burgeoning punk scene and subsequently the goth subculture respectively. Once The Damned travelled to the west cost punk scene, they also influenced Deathrock and Hardcore punk rock too!

also a bit of history for anyone interested: there's a serbian story by Milovan Glišić called "After 90 years" which tells the (supposedly real) story about a village vampire Sava Savanović. That story predates Bram Stoker's Dracula by 17 years. also a fun fact- "vampire" (or "vampir") is the only serbian word that is used in the whole world. it can be found in some international documents serbian officials made with the austro-hungarian empire, dating back to the early 1700s, and the fear of vampires was taken seriously by serbian emperors as far back as in the early 1300s.
    btw, loved the video! 🖤

Oh yes, Petar Blagojević, I learned about this man... sorry, vampire from a Grand Guignole-styled theater play about vampires a few months ago!
The same play portrayed the Croatian (then actually Venetian) man Jure Grando as the first man to be identified as a vampire.

Ah, Sunday just picked up! I love the white shirt and the vest. But I have to admit that I always had more of a fascination with werewolves than with vampires. Probably because of the duality and the fact that, as a plus size person I would find it hard to get the classic look right. (Not saying all vampires have to be thin, just that I would not feel comfortable).

SamuelPenn- As a person who loves his plus size friends, what I have discovered is- there is always something for everyone. You can wear that white shirt because it is ultra roomy. I love it- its made for everyone. Several if not many guys have written me and said "I want to dress like you but, I don't know if anything will fit me?" the truth is, there is a LOT of clothes that are made for larger fellas and I have the trouble finding my size. Werewolves, ah now that's an interesting subject area- got to recall the Munsters son was infact one. I love the idea of the being a large guy is a dream of mine.

There are articles in newspapers and zines showing vampirism being part of the Goth subculture since day one. Francis Ford Coppola did create an emphasis on Victorian fashion with Dracula in 1991 and that influenced Goth fashion/culture. But there is material evidence of vampire/vampyric iconography/imagery and culture being there from the beginning of Goth.

A vampyre scene did exist in 70ies London. If you read the Sex Pistols Johnny Rottens first autobiography he describes the Vampyre scene with people wearing garlic necklaces, breaking into tombs and opening graves...
Also the Damneds Dave Vanian already dressed like Vampire, he was into the Victorian Gentlemans style of dressing up and no doubt into Hammer Horror films and Stuff. No idea if he ever was into the "Cryptie" subculture too...

Vampires, how paradoxical creatures they are. On the one hand they represent man's wish to live an eternal life of incorruptible ability, intelligence and force. On the other hand they embody the world's violent, deadly and corrupt nature.
They are frequently imagined dearly attached to objects of art, style and elegance, souls entrapped in the never-ending longing for times long past, yet they bring the untimely death of beautiful creatures whose blood they need to live a life of solitude, nostalgia and deprived of human warmth.
A life that could go on forever, but that could be brought to an end through violence and an act of killing.
No wonder Goths are so intensely attracted by this figure, we ourselves live a life of contrasts and paradox: we are keen at differentiating ourselves from the crowd, we prize our ability to appear in any circumstance and time as an element of contrast, of distinction with anybody else who is around us. Yet we suffer being rejected, being pushed aside and scorned, we feel a need to socialize and be accepted in all our uniqueness and contrast towards what society considers proper.
Witches and vampires do not exists, but they were for centuries the scapegoats that bore the bouts of violence that stemmed from the frustration and fear that periodically struck people. Let some bad, inexplicable and sorrowful event occur whose causes are unknown but are taken as a punishment or a curse: then what is needed to put an end to the evil is a sacrifice. And what is best to sacrifice than what is out of place, of what feels foreign and strange compared to the ancient traditions?
Goths, weirdos, moshers and freaks in the Americas, in Europe, Australia, Japan and Korea and a few other places can live freely with little to fear today, but we know and feel this truce could end abruptly. It only takes a sudden societal crisis, a widespread feeling of an impending peril for people to want to look for someone to blame and to persecute for having brought upon the nation the corruption and the decadence.
We wished we were loved, admired, accepted or at least let alone by a world we love to stand in stark contrast against, that we find too different from our inner nature. We know we do not fit the mould, and we love it and show it.
And we know that when the economy goes down, when many people find even harder to land a job they could live on, when politics are rife with corruption and scandals, when wars are consuming more and more countries in every continent, we are among those whose civil liberties will be taken as sacrificeable for the good of the country, of the economy, of the people of the status quo.
Our society makes us possible, we live our Goth nature within it, but we know we are more tolerated than accepted and we know the present equilibrium could soon break down to our disadvantage.
And so, we sympathize with vampires because we understand their plight.

Oh my god I remember I had an intro to philosophy class in highschool where we had to do a paper where we used 3 images with a similar abstract theme. I don’t even remember what the theme was but I remember one of the images was a skeleton found in Italy that had evidence of being a “vampire”. It was beheaded and a rock was put in its mouth.

Love this video Professor M. I've been fascinated with vampires (the Hammer series and Christopher Lee as Dracula) since I was a kid.
Do I believe vampires exist? Yes, absolutely. However, they're probably not like the over-the-top "polished" adaptations like what we've come to know in modern pop culture nowadays. I propose if they truly exist then they likely steer clear of modern society, found ways to always keep one step ahead of being discovered and had centuries to adapt and evolve to blend in. There's a line in the 1931 Dracula movie spoken by Professor Van Helsing that sums it up to the effect; "The power of the vampire lies in people's disbelief of it's own existence," in essence to remain invisible is how I interpret it.
I'm not sure when the merge of vampires/ vampirism entered into the Goth subculture yet since I've been goth back in the late 90's I do remember there was separation of the "goth" subculture that didn't like to associate or embrace to the [then] vampire lifestyle as I remember it being called. I might add that "sanguine" (blood) vampires and "Psy" vampires used to be in a community of their own back in the 90's throughout the 2000's from all that I read on the subjects. It was practically impossible to find books on Goth fashion/ Social Goth Decorum back then and equally difficult to find many books that delved into vampirism (by modern day standards anyway). This is just from all of the reading I did back in the day as a baby bat. I'm also a bookworm. I love reading anything about vampires.
Books I can recommend for further reading are:
"Something in the Blood" by Jeff Guinn with Andy Grieser 1996
"Vampires Among Us" by Rosemary Ellen Guiley 1991
    J. Gordon Milton's "Vampires; Encyclopedia of the Undead" (first edition) 1999
And Vampires the Occult Truth by Konstantinos, 1999
Goth fashion and vampire fashion merging together nowadays used to be different years ago. I remember the ruffled white long sleeve shirts known as "poet" shirts were in vogue around the time Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire movie debuted in the 90's. The only Goth catalog I recall that sold those shirts was a place in Canada called "Siren" which changed ownership and switched store names by 2002-'03, to Hell's Bells and then ceased once the Goth scene disappeared.
And unless you had a scene that catered to the vampire fashion, that kind of specific clothing was difficult to build and find especially when thrifting as it was for me.
You're very spot on with the colors for vampire wardrobes. I could even suggest darker shades of red, maybe even some dark plum/ eggplant colors. Burgundy velvet was a favorite of mine when younger, but I find nowadays going with strict black is easier for me to find.
Another vampire- like color would possibly be slate grey, damask patterns of dark blood red and damask patterns of black. Black silks, especially vests even though I never owned since vests never looked good on me I thought. If a person strives for that classic undead Bela Lougosi look, then a black tux, white shirt, white vest and a monocle should suffice. Oh, and a comfortable pair of dress shoes/ black slip on dress boots. 👍🙂
Bela, I remember from watching the 1931 Dracula movie (one of my many favorites), wore a black top hat in one scene and carried a walking stick, dressed elegantly for a night on the town with an opera cloak to complete the Count's look.
It was fairly recent just within the last year (of 2023) when the vampire fashion merged with the Goth fashion and became intertwined. As always, I enjoyed your video and liked the vampire ensembles! ❤🦇🙂

Dear EB- You never cease to amaze me in your comments. This one fondly, has so much information in it- I joke you not I could do a whole new video on it. "The power of the vampire lies in people's disbelief of it's own existence,"- this is amazing. Books described also. While I got you online- is there subject matter you want me to cover in the future? Any thing you like me to delve into? The last video came under request but it was a simple one liner that way to important to let it not become a full blow lecture. I may she about the books mentioned- yes, absolutely vamp books are awesome. They inspire our minds. And as far as fashion-- yes completely, hard to find and thrift stores today have seem to go from $2 articles to $22 as if they are competing with something. The name thrift has lost meaning. We had dollar stores, that now are $5 stores.--" slate grey, damask patterns of dark blood red and damask patterns of black." All yes love. Also eggplant the color turns me on. Hard to find but love it. I saw it in velvet once. My best to you thank you always--Prof. M

@@gothicallyyoursprofessorm.7222you're very welcome, Professor M. I could remience about my younger baby bat days and how the Goth community has evolved since those times, definitely. 😊
Whoever requested this subject of vampire fashion/vampirism, and Goth fashion merging together sounds awesome too! It's a refreshing subject and one I haven't seen discussed much at all.
I remember when thrifting eons ago if I managed to find one pair of black Xileration (this was a Target store brand) Daisy Duke style shorts, one burgundy 90's velvet short sleeve top, and a black velvet tunic/duster I was a happy baby bat especially since I bought it for around $7 for all the garments. But like you mentioned the $2 thrifted finds are now $22. I'd be rather annoyed if I sauntered into my local thrift stores nowadays and couldn't get maybe more than two articles because of inflation. I also think thrift stores are struggling financially with the advent of Temu. I still love finding good deals at reasonable prices, but haven't gone to any thrift stores in months because they keep hiking up prices (sometimes more than what the garment sold for when new). The selections here in my town have dwindled which is why I stick with what I already have.
I think another future video that expounds on this vampire fashion/ vampirism would be awesome and describe the outdated meanings to the modern day meanings. Sanguine vampires/real life vampires/psy vampires used to have different meanings 20 + years ago. I recently discovered this by happenstance when reading through my old vampire books and compared them to a few new updated vampire magazines from June of 2023.
I do have a vampire book from 1977 that briefly touches on the sanguine vampire. I found it fascinating how different the outdated psychological meanings and terminology have now become re-named to fit a mainstream society's narrative nowadays. To me it seems askew and a bit muddled since the meanings have changed and so have perspectives.
In Konstantinos book, for example, he explains real life vampires and vampirism from his Occult perspective and also as a scholar too and leaves it up to the reader to decide about the existence of real vampires and the various letters he published from self-proclaimed vampires. He's since reprinted his Vampires the Occult Truth in the early 2000's, but I haven't found a reasonably priced copy of it yet and not sure if it contains anything new in way of information. 🤔
I'm always happy to chime in. 😊 I also have several more vampire films I enjoy, but the list would be quite long. Originally, I never saw Interview with the Vampire when it debuted and never read any of Anne Rice. It wasn't until a month after she passed away is when I bought a copy of the movie and settled for a reprint of Interview with the Vampire since the original 1970's copy was astronomically overpriced! I have yet to read the book all the way through. I also have The Vampire Cronicels and The Vampire Lestat, where he's frontman for his 80's Goth rock band.
In closing, I distinctly remember back online in 1999/2000's in those Yahoo chat rooms and on Yahoo messenger I'd encounter so many self-proclaimed "Lestats" and "Louis" that I'd get bored easily. This was during the peak of popularity for Annie Rice's film that carried over into the early 2000's as well. And I used to get bored when chatting with LARP'ers even though I never got into the White Wolf VTM "Vampire the Masquerade". I think a lot of was because I was in my 20's back then and took a studious approach to everything that I read vampire-wise back then. And I'm sure my baby bat Goth attire didn't help. 😂
As for the people that went public proclaiming to be true undead back in the 90's were just out for five minutes of fame and the shock value of it all. Inside Edition did a few segments, but the most accurate description of the older (original Goth scene from the latter 90's) is called "Sex, Death, and Eyeliner". The uncensored version I wouldn't recommend for any baby bat. In fact, it delves more into a debauchery realm I won't mention here. The censored version is up here on YT and the Goth subculture back then had a more reserved, almost, Corporate Goth fashion going for it at the time (this was before the Industrial Goth fashion rushed in by the early 2000's). From my understanding only one person that uploaded the Sex, Death and Eyeliner documentary remained in the Goth scene. The others in the documentary have either moved on or probably dropped out of the Goth scene. However, I'm just taking a guess on that. But if anyone is curious to how Goths decorated their homes back then and ever wonder how restricted those times truly were, the documentary covers that as well. 🦇

@@gothicallyyoursprofessorm.7222yes, absolutely! Don't know what happened to my original reply but it disappeared randomly. I'd like to see this vampirism/vampire Goth fashion expounded if at all possible. I happened upon some interesting terminology and meanings of sanguine vampires from 20++ years ago and society's views, compared to nowadays changed definitions that I feel are muddled. I have an updated vampire magazine from June 2023 "Inside the myths and mysteries Vampires" and the definitions of sanguine vampires have definitely changed since the 1990's even. Just as psy vamps have changed definitions. Oh, you mentioned the vampire scare back in the Victorian era, especially of the Excter vampire, Mercy Brown. I remember listening to my social studies teacher tell our 7th hour class about that in quite graphic detail. At the time it intrigued me since I loved all things vampires from childhood, pretty much. Even though I wasn't goth yet (far from it actually), it still garnered my young interest. But I think she was stricken with Consumption, a term used to describe Tuberculosis back in the old days. The reason why they did that was, in hopes, to cure the Tuberculosis they themselves had contracted. I believe Lenard Nemoy (Mr. Spock from the original Star Trek) did a segment on the Vampire scare. Also, a variation I heard is, or rather was, that Mercy Brown was a revenant. Revenants are according to some legends, to be either demon entities and/or return from the dead as vampires. Interesting to note that if you happen to see a slanted gravestone it's an indication of a revenat's grave.
I have one vampire book from the 70's that briefly mentioned sanguine vampires and described it as a psychological condition. When I locate this book I'll post the title of it.
One book I forgot to add to my original reply is Dracula's Brood Vampire classics by Richard Dalby, 1987.
My best to you as well and you're welcome! 😊🦇

Very interesting video :) I'm sorry I wasn't here earlier, however, I had a death in the family and am just now getting back to things. As to crosses and garlic, they don't work on vampires. Garlic was actually more used for offsetting the smell that came from the vampires. As to your statement that vampires don't exist, I beg to differ. I don't believe that the people who claim to be vampires now are actually vampires. They are people who love blood or energy but don't have all of the attributes of an actual vampires. Maybe they are a type of vampire but not in the traditional sense. And I do believe in vampires having had my own personal experiences with real vampires which I will not go into here. Let's just say that I have recently discovered, after wondering for years about their reality, that they are definitely real and are much smarter than to let people find them unless they wish it to happen. I'm not saying I'm special or trying to make a big deal of it, things just happen sometimes and we wonder why. Anyhow I enjoyed seeing your video and take care Professor :)

Moonflowerfaerie , I was wonder about you and if you saw the video. My heart to you on your family's loss. I lost my dad a year ago. One never really heals from the loss of a parent I feel. - On Vampires, Ok, my Goth Mom absolutely says they are real, and with collective information that I have had rec'd this last week, on comments and other research I will say I may have to take back my "don't" to a "they do" exist. Evidence is mounting that direction. Three folks have already said they are indeed smarter. This caught my attention " Garlic was actually more used for offsetting the smell that came from the vampires." that is interesting. --I am glad you added 'I'm not interested in arguing about" If I saw that on here, it would be deleted, same here this channel is EduGothacational and wish for each person to have a chance to add to the collective knowledge. I will share with Mom the above and I know what she will say " See! I told you" Good to hear from you.

@@gothicallyyoursprofessorm.7222 Thank you for your kind thoughts and I feel for you at the loss of your father. Almost everyone I love is gone now, and some days are harder than others. I appreciate your thoughts on vampires, and the comments. Normally I wouldn't have said anything about arguing, but lately I have had people on other channels really being hateful to the point that I had to delete my comments. I wish we could all just discuss things without people feeling the need to be unkind/hateful. Glad to hear that your mother believes too :) I hope you have a wonderful spooky day ;)

Given the accounts in the King James Bible of Genesis 6 and other parts that speak of the giants that were born of fallen angels who had sex with human women, these giants were the mighty men of renown, I would say that it's very possible that vampires did exist. It makes me wonder if there is some truth in the myth and legends. I wonder if we are actually hearing tales of old, at least in part, when we read stories and watch movies like Lord of The Rings, anime like Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho. How do we know that some of the characters being portrayed are not actual hybrids that existed in flesh and blood bodies who now dwell in the spirit realm? Btw who do you think aliens and ghosts really are? The Bible doesn't mention life on other planets and when a person dies their spirit goes to Heaven or Hell. Devils are great impersonators. Everyone knows the story of David and Goliath. These giants were cannibals so I'm sure that the drinking of blood was probably something that many of them partook in, not just the ones known as vampires who would have done it on a regular basis.

Saynotohookups- Ah, Yes, Gen 6: "Nephilim" or the mysterious beings or people in the Hebrew Bible who are described as being large and strong-- which makes me think that giantism could have been in their DNA, not just height but width and girth. I wanted to share an off story with you, this is bizarre but worthy to share- many years ago while I was child I was at a museum there was a species of horse that was larger than the Shire Draft horses which are the largest know horse. There was a horseshoe on the wall that was used to shoe one of these horses it was the size of a toilet seat. The man said because they were not used, they breed went extinct. -- In highlighting the idea that things existed and are not with us today- does prove existence is possible for vampires. ( How do we know that some of the characters being portrayed are not actual hybrids that existed in flesh and blood bodies who now dwell in the spirit realm?- excellent question) ( Btw who do you think aliens and ghosts really are? - wow, that a complex question for I have had experiences containing both- and more so the latter with our 196 year old home. ( The Bible doesn't mention life on other planets and when a person dies their spirit goes to Heaven or Hell- there is a wonderful scene in Beetlejuice that answers that when the secretary says:
"Barbara : Adam, is this what happens when you die?
Receptionist : This is what happens when *you* die.
Receptionist : That is what happens when *he* dies.
Receptionist : And that is what happens when *they* die. It's all very personal. ...
Receptionist : ... I wouldn't have had my little accident.
( Devils are great impersonators- agreed, even demons can come as angels of light)
(These giants were cannibals so I'm sure that the drinking of blood was probably something that many of them partook in, not just the ones known as vampires who would have done it on a regular basis.- Your complex thinking and theory, is worthy of a college professor job!) What is your occupation?-- You should be teaching at a university with the insight you shared.

@@gothicallyyoursprofessorm.7222 Lol I work in a call center conducting market research surveys over the phone. I'm flattered but believe me I have no capability of being a teacher. I don't even have theology down. I can't be a teacher but I can teach something and give others something to think about. I have thought about making videos. I'm actually not well read but I attended a Baptist Church for several years. I thought that I was a born again Christian but when I examined my heart I realized that I wasn't born again. I also had a few paranormal experiences myself, my Mom had one too and my brother had a particularly frightening experience.
What you told me about the horse shoe is mind blowing. Speaking of things that are bigger, before the worldwide flood happened that wiped out the giants, and others who rebelled against God, with the way that the atmospheric conditions were at the time everything would have been bigger. So imagine how much bigger these giants had to be than everyone else? Even after the flood there were more giants, one of the cases being the story of David and Goliath. For sure, their width and girth would have been bigger. The devils spoken of in the New Testament are the disembodied spirits of the giants, or Nephilim. It was definitely in their DNA.

@@saynotohookups I wanted to add "I thought that I was a born again Christian but when I examined my heart I realized that I wasn't born again. I also had a few paranormal experiences myself, my Mom had one too and my brother had a particularly frightening experience" One need not be not a Christian to experience the supernatural, our material word and the concept of ghost or ghosts is recognizable- but since you would be in the know, look at at Daniel 5:5-28 about the hand appearing on the wall. Thats written in scripture, and as far freaky as paranormal as one could hope for.-- Another thing I wanted to mention ''I'm flattered but believe me I have no capability of being a teacher."- absolutely, one need not have PhDs and all that to teach its a matter of passion- your questions alone signaled me to say this person thinks heavily and is putting pieces together which is a mind of a researcher. Thats what we do at the university we put things together. -- I will ask mom next time where that museum was, I think it was the Shelby in Vermont we saw that horse shoe, but along with the shoe there was photos of men, dwarfed by the size of these animals. Larger than Clydesdales, big creatures. Goliath, now we have men who have reached 7ft'7in. our time, Robert Wadlow was 8'ft 11 in. but did not possess the athletic body we would assume as giant/gladiator. -- " atmospheric conditions were at the time everything would have been bigger." absolutely. And you added an element to why I see you could be a teacher. Sayno- have you ever had a IQ or EQ test done? I would think it would be very high, or higher than you expected. Your conversation is good.

If God exists to people , why can't Vampires exist to people ?? GOD and VAMPIRES are both Immortal. And neither can be seen in mirrors.

      @cobybryson6668,
Good point. 👍 I'm going to chime in and guess that vampires might even be spiritual beings and not necessarily confined to a "physical" bodies since transformation into either a bat or that of a wolf has always been used to describe a vampire's many capabilities including shape-shifting and morphing/ dematerialization. You expressed a very good point there.
