    I like it Jeff. Have something similar. The vinyl pole is definitely a squirrel deterrent. But black oil sunflower seeds in a platform feeder, (like your blue house), brings in the grackles and starlings. After yrs of putting up with them, I just took down my platform feeder, and put up a screened tube feeder with thistle. Good luck.

      Thanks! We certainly get our fair share of grackles!

    Nice feeder station, I'm mostly intrigued by the vinyl sleeves effectiveness vs squirrels and raccoons. I have thought of similar design and wondered if will work, even thought of wiping the vinyl with grease or silicone. I have since decided the cost would prohibit the build if it's not effective so I decided to let folk build similar build and find out its effectiveness. I'm glad I found your channel, any update on it's effectiveness?

      @@tastyfishsauce4410 We get a squirrel up on the feeders every so often. It is not squirrel-proof, but it isn’t often. I prefer the aesthetic of the vinyl post and I’ve come to terms with the fact that I may spend more money on seed because of it. Thank you for reaching out!

    Excellent build and video. Im here watching vids for ideas on some bird feeder stations I need to build for our cats entertainment so appreciate your well documented process.

    Functionally, how does it compare to your previous feeder setup that can be seen in the video?

    • @jeffschmidt207
      @jeffschmidt207  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The previous feeder setup was not sturdy. If the soil was wet, or it was really windy, the weight of the feeders would pull it and it was often angled instead of straight. So the new feeder is certainly better in that regard. The previous feeder had a squirrel guard and it was nearly impossible for a squirrel to get up to the bird seed. The new one performs well, but it occasionally gets a squirrel up there. I dont really mind. I have the option to add additional hangers to the new post and it is easy to do where with the former, I was limited to what was there originally. We now have a feeder with mosaic glass that shines in thru our bay window. I wouldnt have had the confidence to put it up if I was using the former one.

    MY FATHER made one is about 12 feet tall couple of years ago with rail robes to pull the feeders down & up BUT is all made up with Metal, steel & cement inside & each arms like u is 4 is long with hooks built into it so u can hang 3 feeders on each arms, & is very deep in the ground even truck hit it would NOT fall down or get damaged ..urs is nice 2👍

    Not sure why but about 2 minutes into the video I said to myself "this gives me major UP vibes" just to finally open my eyes and see the t-shirt! Must be some subliminal messaging hey! Greetings from the Soo, might have to steal some ideas for my feeder pole this summer.

      We have one squirrel that is smarter than the rest. We see him up there occasionally for a sunflower seed breakfast! Haha oh well.

    Love the feeder. So does the light actually work at night or just for aesthetics?

    • @jeffschmidt207
      @jeffschmidt207  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the light works. It’s nice to see it on at night. It’s not bright, just a small solar powered light.

    Looking good......so did that vinyl sleeve keep the squirrels off of it??

    • @jeffschmidt207
      @jeffschmidt207  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! We didn’t have a squirrel on it all summer, and I wish I could say that we have never had one, but we saw one this past October. Since then we haven’t seen one. So mostly squirrel proof! Of the squirrels that live around our house, it was the “smart” one..

    Bigger birds like blue jays like a platform station.

      We recently put up a bird buddy camera feeder which has a platform.

    Just found your video. We are thinking of doing the same. Did it work? Are the squirrels deterred much?

    • @jeffschmidt207
      @jeffschmidt207  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have had squirrels get up there, but it is not frequent. I’ve considered creating a tube section in the middle, and painting it, but it hasn’t been a big issue for us. Thanks for watching!

    So the white vinyl sleeve is touching the ground correct? You just? Did that trim around the bottom for a pure visual purpose ?

    • @jeffschmidt207
      @jeffschmidt207  ปีที่แล้ว

      The sleeve does not touch the ground, rather it sits elevated off the ground resting on some spacers. It sits slightly behind the trim pieces which provided a cleaner looking edge visually and this way I didn’t need drill into the sleeve.

    I don't get it ! Most all assembly could have Been done on a work bench . A PVC post and a few scrap sat. Tv dishes would have done this cheaper and kept the feed out of the rain.
