  • This video covers the overhaul of the JATCO CVT transmission used in many Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles. If you are working on a 2007 to current FWD Nissan, you likely have a CVT. This video covers the JF011E, which is also called the RE0F10A/B or the CVT 2 or 3. I know, confusing isn't it. Well, at least rebuilding the transmission won't be as confusing after watching this video. This video would also apply to a JF009e (RE0F08a/b) and A JF010e (RE0F09a/b,) because they basically operate the same and use the same process for rebuilding.
    In this video, I cover disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of the transmission along with measurements and some description along the way. You'll find in this video, I also vacuum check the valve body to see if there are any worn bores. I go through the process of rebuilding the pulley assembly to give you an idea of what to expect.
    This video is intended to teach a student or a technician that's new to CVT transmissions the overhaul and operation of this transmission. This is part of the SIU Automatic Transmissions Curriculum, which can be found at:
    www.automotive...
    Thank you Seal Aftermarket Products (sap.com) for providing me with some CVT kits, and thank you TransGo www.transgo.com for providing me with a flow control valve and a pulley puller tool. Look for another video where I cover the pump and the TransGo tool independently.

    Hi. Fantastically informative. Thank you. I am in Australia and we have a 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport with CVT. Car has had a young mother and our grand daughter, a novice (but very careful) female as owners of this car from new. Car has only 80K Kilometres on the clock. Within 12 months of our girl getting the car the CVT started slipping and got to the point where it is undriveable. We took it to the Suzuki dealer for diagnosis and quote and the only thing they would contemplate was replacement with a new transmission at a cost of a little over $9K AUD. They refused, or could not give details why the transmission had failed. The car is in beautiful condition but is not worth that much. Other transmission specialists were contacted and all reports were very negative. We were told that these transmission are "Throw away", cannot be repaired, and that the parts are not available anyway. So now we have a nice bright yellow monument sitting on the back lawn. I am an experienced mechanic and your video has given me the incentive to have a shot at repairing it myself. But if the parts I need are not available or prohibitively expensive, I would be wasting my time. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you. Gert Roewer, Jindera NSW Australia.

      Thanks for watching the video. 5-7 years ago many shops had the same attitude about rebuilding cvts here in the states. Now many shops are rebuilding these because there are so many out there. I guess in your situation, you’d want to do research to see about parts availability. You might find out how much it would cost to have parts sent from the us to you. Slauson.com has a ton of good used belts and pulleys. The transgo drop in flow control valve is a good product and I’m sure it’s available through parts suppliers worldwide. When you pull it apart, the pulleys might look bad if the belt was slipping, but it’s likely build up and the material will probably clean up. I wrote an article for gearsmagazine.com for their January issue. You can read the magazine online and that issue includes a buyers guide. Download that mag and learn more about the cvt and check out some of the suppliers. You might find what you need!

      @@gertroewer152 no mine hasn't failed, its shuddering on deceleration and sometimes won't up shift if revving around 3-4k rpm, i can also feel what seems to be a slight slip. I think the last person to service the transmission has used the wrong oil type(pink color) I have been sourcing service parts for it from the dealer, all coming from over east or Japan. This sort of explains why the CVT in this has a bad reputation, I think people don't service them or if they do, they dont use oem spec stuff as it's hard to source them locally, also pricey. From what I've gathered, it's very easy to damage with the wrong fluid and recommended is the expensive Suzuki green fluid. I did a drain and fill over the weekend with correct fluid but not much change. I intend on getting a full drain and fill as fluid is still coming up pink when new fluid is green. There is also an external filter which according to suzuki is not a serviceable item, wrong! I had a look at mine and that thing was is extremely dirty for a filter(100k km on car). I have called a number of wreckers around and this transmission is known for its scarcity and quick sell, so even when they have them, they sell them for close to 4k because of this.
      There's a specialist in NZ that reconditions them and sells them worldwide including Aus. He also supplies parts/guidance to guys that rebuild them here. He wants ~$3,400(2,800 + 600shipping) excluding GST.

    Sean - the no#1 issue with these trannies is wear in the flow control valve in the pump, and the bore can get worn too. This can lead to low pressure and damage to the pulley assemblies. The aftermarket has a fix for this.

And what happens if you miss this step, do not put anything in that hole? The linkage can fall apart when assembling? And what does it result in, car would not move, or just not shift? Because I have a strong suspicion that the shop which replaced the solenoids on my valve body forgot or didn't know about this step. Thank you!

    1. what is the exact purpose of Neutral? Is it just for emergencies such as towing the car, or should we engage neutral at traffic lights etc?
    2. Would it be harmful to the transmission to engage in sport mode while on the move i.e for overtaking or for driving uphill?

    Hi. Great video! I been messing with my moms cvt using this video as a guide. I wanna rebuild it in the future but I have a question. Where do you source a kit to overhaul all these parts on these JF011e's? Finding stiff online but some of it doesn't seem to trust worthy.

    You do us all a service taking the mystery out of this CVT. Thank you, sir. Do you have specs for the optimum temperature range of the CVT oil?

    • @siuautomotive
      @siuautomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't have the optimum temp range, but I'd assume it'd be 10-20 degrees below engine temp. That's where most transmissions live.

      @@siuautomotive ,how do I get 2010 nissan versa cvt transmission oil pump seal for my car?

    • @karsonet3922
      @karsonet3922 ปีที่แล้ว

      A quick one, the coolant comes from the engine to the warmer that has paper filter. Ideally its temperature is the lowest, because the transmission generates it own heat. Living in region where lowest temp is 10 degrees Celsius all year.
      Should I install cooler for the coolant coming in the warmer. I already have a four port that cools oil externally.

    Thank you for this wonderful explanation and dismantling of the CVT transmission , these transmission normally makes whinning noise, where is the whinning noise coming from? ? And what is the best CVT fluid for Nissan Transmission that may make transmission last longer ? ?

    Here is my experience: I purchased a 2015 Nissan Murano new in July 2015. We had transmission issues starting week 1! Hesitation and then over acceleration were addressed with multiple software tweaks but never corrected the issue. My CVT transmission failed and was replaced under warranty by Nissan in June 2019 at 52,000 miles. Today 11-29-21, at 62,100 miles, my transmission failed again due to the transmission oil/cooler/radiator assembly failing to cause the cooling fluid and the transmission fluid to mix, resulting in having to replace the Transmission, Radiator, and associated assemblies for a cost to me of approximately $6,700! Based on my research, this is a known issue with Nissan CVTs but was only partially addressed in the Class Action lawsuit because individual owners had to personally sue Nissan and their vehicle models and years were the only ones included in the extended warranty. How a judge does not include all Nissan vehicles with the CVT is beyond me especially when my dealership was replacing three a week when my 2015 Murano's CVT was replaced. All my service was completed at the dealership and we never prevent any work from being done when required. The only upside is Nissan is paying for 80% of the repair but I am still paying out of pocket on something I believe should be fully covered. If I had an Altima with the same issue it would be covered under the class action suit extended warranty coverage but the same CVT with known issues in another Nissan model is not covered!

      @siuautomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, that sucks. I've been told that the Murano has the hardest time keeping the transmissions alive. I don't know if it's the size or weight of the vehicle, but they don't last as long in those models. I'm glad they're covering 80% for you though!

      @@siuautomotive Hi and thanks for your comments. I believe you are correct regarding the weight of the vehicle. It is my understanding CVTs don't fair as well as vehicle weight increases.

      Just bought a 2018 Nissan Altima SR 50000 miles at 50700 CVT failed it’s at the dealership now they will rebuild the cvt under warranty as soon they finish I’m getting rid of the car and never again a Nissan..

      @@ENTERTAINER4you Hi Ivan, we are sorry to hear about this. Luckily it is covered by a warranty now, but I feel your pain and discomfort in keeping your Nissan vehicle after this experience. Especially in light of what happened with our 2015 Nissian Murano requiring two CVT rebuilds in less than 63,000 miles! We love the design and how our Murano drives, but we are extremely cautious about using it for long trips now! Our Murano was our go-to vehicle for trips, and now every day, we cross our fingers and hope it lasts another day. When the first CVT rebuild under warranty was done, we were promised that a redesign to prevent future occurrences was in place. Yet 10,000 miles later, a CVT rebuild was required again! Saying the cost to replace this vehicle now is prohibitive is an understatement, and like you, many Nissan owners have to deal with this while a recall is still not happening. This lack of action to protect consumers is unconscionable. Like you, we will not purchase another Nissan / Infiniti vehicle and are actively looking to replace it before the CVT fails again. Again, the Murano design is great; for us, nothing out there now looks as good. Couple that with the fact we were lucky to get 0% financing for the Murano at a decent price, but right now, vehicles are selling above MSRP, if you can find one, and financing deals do not exist. Good luck to you, and hopefully, this works out for you. Thanks for sharing.

      I'd change (part-flush!) the oil at half the maker's recommended interval and do the filters at the rec'd interval. You must use the recommended oil. Also watch The Wizard on u tube.
